The first mistake is FLYING to a DISTANT island without a means of defense. In the current state of the world, I am staying home, but I am pretty low-maintenance. I don’t need an umbrella-drink vacation.

Unless the bad guys came THROUGH the jungle to get to your resort. Of course not all resorts are even proximal to jungles, so that might not be an option.
Hiding is an option if there's somewhere that a force combing through a resort might not look, like maybe on the roof of that bungalow, or under it if there's a crawlspace.

Options you gave, I'd take #4 kayak. Really though, we'd collect our basic thing's. I always travel with a survival bag.. We'd collect blades, get to the jungle, camouflage. I'd make a "pig spear" hide, take a gun from aggressor.

First of all, if there's no gun EDC, I ain't there.
    But secondly, I'm doing this:
Take 120 seconds and gather absolute essential gear.
    Lighter
    Kitchen knife
    Dark clothing and blankets
    Flashlight
    Water and food
    Shoes
Then I'm figuring out what direction the trouble is, then I'm going the opposite direction and holding up in a non populated area with no buildings, or people.
    Then be quiet.
But I'm putting 2 miles between me and the action.
Based on your description of distance, i have plenty of time to take 2 min to grab essentials👍😆

Great video Jason! Looking forward to another scenario from you soon. Gets the grey matter working.. what is coincidental, is it is our 10 year anniversary in a few weeks and we’re going away - I’ll be with my training and none of my normal items - I’ll be feeling naked for sure! My mind will be everywhere and my wife will be loving life, not worrying about a thing, because I have it in hand 😅

Option 1. a rally bad idea. it leaves you open to an attack from many fronts, the thing could just burn down with you in it. Option 3. is not a good idea either. you proble don't know the train and have no supplies to survive in the area. So that leaves options 2 and 4. They both have some dangers (you may be seen and shot or you may not find anyone and end up in were spot then you are right now) but with that said what I would do is option 2. try to see what is going on. if its already taken care of then go back to the building. if it's an active situation with multiple threats then we can attempt to get to the boats if it is save to do so or we can hit the jungle and pick up any supplies we can scvange along the way.

  • @robdavidson4945

I don't travel overseas much anymore but I have always had contacts in the areas. I always "Recon" the area by reading up on the politics and possible groups that could be a threat. Always have good maps of the area. I always traveled with a good compass. These days water bottle with filtration and treatment is cheap and light. I used to run around the beach in flip flops. A few foot injuries later convinced me that the very least footwear is river sandals. Completely enclosed crosstrek type shoes that will hold up against coral or sharp rocks and sticks. Always gain an actual weapon like knife and machete when possible as soon as possible. Can't always do that these days.
Travel by water is much easier than jungle. But the wide open is dangerous because it's easier to be seen and if the bad guys have power boats you're at a disadvantage.
If the shooting starts move out of the area cautiously. You don't want to run into an ambush stage by a blocking force.
Hyper vigilance and paranoia are survival skills.
    Enjoy the beach.

I am taking option 2, collect intel and find or fashion a weapon. That would entail dressing with clothes for a hike, shoes, as many of the “Cs” of survival as possible, then checking out the dangers. After securing a weapon of some sort, we would go for the canoes if it is safe to do so. If that does not look clear, a stealth getaway would be the next option.

I usually have a small survival kit wherever I go, just super basic stuff, a folding pocket knife, a small flashlight, a lighter a small amount of rope and then a set of comfortable sneakers. I’m actually on vacation right now and I have those basics with me except I brought a Leatherman this time instead of a folding pocket knife, even better I’d say.

2:33 (PAUSE) It's a peaceful island... so whatever came, came from the sea, on something better than those ''rentals''... so option 4 is off...
I'm thinking of a combination of options 2 and 3 ... hiding in the jungle, spying to learn more, maybe getting arms from them... as a tourist destination, authorities will be informed, help will come...
I'm not alone, I'll try to protect who I'm with, by hurting anything that stands in the way... I'LL BE THE BEAST!
I won't fall to your ''restrictions'' Jason... I'll do me!...

Well Jason ,intel is important then grabbing what might make a night survivalable. Maybe a sheet to wrap up in the night to keep mosquitoes off you. Any kitchen knives for self defense and making a spear and any bushcrafting. I've spent a lot of time canoeing and kayaking the various lakes and rivers in Ohio, this would be the last thing I'd do in the ocean , The exposure,And I'm sure you or anyone else would too.

In this day and age, I would never leave the country and rarely leave home for destinations farther than 15 to 20 miles, so I know I could home on foot within 24 hours. In Florida, we have stand your ground laws and it is legal to carry. That said, if something was to happen in my neck of the woods, I would be high tailing it home and keep as low a profile as possible if I clearly didn't know what was going on.

I'm with most, don't go anywhere you can't defend yourself..... But, if I were to be in this scenario, I would have first researched the area. You always want to know your options just in case. Once there, defense should always be on your mind. Know what's around you, that could be used as a weapon or tool. Unfortunate for me, I am always ready for a fight, not that I want to, just that expecting the worst usually brings me peace when nothing happens. My wife and I were at a rally last weekend and soon after walking in my wife said to me, "Your not working, relax." I just laugh and said I guess I'm just being cautious. LOL Tough times we live in these days.

  • @rogerjensen5277
    @rogerjensen5277 8 місяців тому +1

I would already have a few six-foot 'spears' ready. When confronted with the situation, I would dress with regular clothes, gather supplies (especially drinking water), head into the jungle, travel about a hundred yards in then make a right or left 90 degree hook (opposite the direction of the gun shots), travel for about 15 minutes using the sun to navigate, then turn back toward the beach and upon reaching the shore follow it staying close to or just inside the tree line. Since this is a vacation spot, there will be other places with people along the beach. The reason for the short trip thru the jungle is that it's hard to track thru a jungle but it's easy to get lost in one! A spear is just a walking stick with a pointy end so it shouldn't bother anyone you meet too much!

My ol lady and I have no desire to visit the tropics. But playing along suppose we wind up in some 2nd or 3rd world tourist trap I would either acquire or bring a weapon. Period. Pocket knife or paring knife from a kid on the street. Something tsa cant find. Etc. Thats your job. I know gun fire vs fireworks.. car backfires.. etc etc. And no point in playing hero.. my family is my priority. Not distant screams. Hiding might be a great option.. but not in your room. Now venturing deep into the forest gets people killed let alone a tropical jungle. Breaking trail is hard slow work. Unless that beach is 100yrds away in a clear direction hiding just into the jungle enough youre concealed but have eyes/ears on your resort/room may be a viable option. Boat might not be great. Pulled further out.. pushed into rocks.. or even make a successful journey.. now youre miles deeper into nowhere and no one knows youre there. The jungle and ocean are just as eager to kill a fool. Have a weapon. Make distance. Hide. Observe.

Before leaving on vacation I would have gathered intel of location we would be staying at as well the surrounding areas . After Arrival the first thing I would do is go to one of the local shops that sell or make machetes and Purchase two of them then gather other resources like bottled water and so on for emergencies . One other thing is I would have a plan for us as a couple and if we was to get separated to what we would do just in case something like this would arrive and that would be made back at home in the states and as well go over different things in our room after getting different supplies and the two machetes , we would go over our plans before and during our first 2 hours of arrival of our vacation spot. Now if a threat arise then we would put plan into action possibly if time permitted gather our most important essentials outside of our documents / Ids aka passports then make way to safety designated by us before and after our arrival but as I said we would have this done before and during our first 2 ok maybe 3 hour of arrival so we would have a clear indication what to do as a couple or separate .

K, after the pause, listening to your thoughts. Get ur thinking, but I'm still not a target in the room, I'm not goin into the jungle barefoot n only in my swimsuit / her bikini b/c I'd have no idea how long we'd have to stay away, how far we'd have to go, etc. If I could take even 10-15 seconds to grab clothes/shoes, I'd do make the dash n get Intel out the door n on the way, but that wasn't the option. You said it the threat was distant... and option 4, still a target in the open. Stickin w/ #2 n being darn quick about it, not lingering on the weapon part.

Alright, im paused at 9:22 lol
Personally im not in the habit of being anywhere without some kind of weapon or tool. I dont believe in leaving it at home or in the hotel room because its a vacation. That said, i cant think of many tropical locals that permit firearms, so its going to be blades. Or other hidden or improvised weapons, so going out to look for a weapon is never going to be something im interested in.
Assuming these are actual gunshots, id much rather fortify that structure for the first 2 hours after the incident. After 2 hours wifey stays fortified while i go look around for signs of life. If i dont see any its time for an escape plan. If i do then we can investigate further. My assumption would be drug runners or pirates, and i wouldnt like my odds against those dudes so if i see things like common colors or uniforms we're dipping lol if i could take one of them out, and get a firearm off of them then it might change things, but only in that id have a more aggressive option available to me.
My rationale behind waiting two hours is essentially thats how long it takes for a tactical unit to respond somewhere at the longest. Armed forces are usually there sooner, to secure the scene. If they dont show up the situation is probably resolved already, or theres a complete takeover of the island by badguys. Regardless, no reason to leave a secure location over except to see whats going on. Depending on how secure our room, bungalo or whatever is i might opt to find better shelter, but otherwise that is my plan for the majority of the "far from home" circumstances i can reasonably expect to encounter

And how corrupt the leadership/policing are. Only safe options for me. So, scratch your 4 😄 In mine there is one... call the emergency number and ask about the cause, then decide. With your options, I guess I would opt for the gathering intel with extreme caution.

2:36 I was at a gun show with my wife and a man shot two people. The vendors all drew firearms and aggressively commanded him to put the gun down. Time line of the event gun shot goes off.
Step 1. Flinch because I’m a human being and I wasn’t expecting that
Step 2. Grab my wife and put myself in between her and the direction of the danger. Ask if ok (both parties quick self assessment)
Step 3. Identify the nearest exit
Step 4. Threat assessment before moving from safe location (go - no go)
    Step 5. GO
Step 6. threat assessment new location.
Step 7. Verify each other’s personal assessment.
Step 8. Put more distance between you and the threat.
Apparently it was an accident that turned into what could only be described as a cartoonish Mexican standoff. Why this accident was 500% preventable. First none of the guns were zip tied. Second someone put a round in the chamber of that rifle. Third neither the vendor or the shooter checked if the chamber was empty. Fourth the shooter pointed the rifle in an unsafe direction. Fifth the shooter did not keep his finger off the trigger. This accident that affected 3 lives and had the potential to harm many many more.

in my opinion, its best to gather some intel before deciding which way to go. it would be idiotic to just run in any direction. second your in a different country, it could be everything is fine its just a family party or someone killed someones dog both of those would also make you feel like an idiot for running. better to understand the culture where you are going, then evaluate the situation before making a move that could put you in more harm. in your intel see if you can see whats going on, see how many people are involved, are they on foot or using vehicles. also what type of weapons do they have and what direction do they appear to be moving in. gathering as much of this as you can, will help you know how and where to move.

First choice would be not leaving the United States and not even traveling to states where I cannot have my firearms on / with me. Second choice, run to the kayak and paddle away from the gunfire.

During bad weather and if I'm traveling and not at home, I always sleep in comfortable clothing with my shoes ready to put my feet into. I don't want to be in any situation in pajamas are like those hillbilly women who have on a t-shirt but no bra.

i would try to determine what direction the trouble was and how far away it is. if we had time, minimum i would gather some clothes and shoes, and possibly some kind of weapon. take off opposite direction of the trouble carrying our clothes. and go like heck out of there. after we were a good distance from the chaos, put our clothes on, and take off again. hopefully we aren't too far away from a safe place. or, i have no intention of leaving my country, no desire to go to any other country.
