  • Vincent Harding’s question about whether the United States can truly be a multi-racial democracy still hangs, unanswered, over the country. With deep political divisions, rising white nationalism, and coordinated efforts to subvert and suppress elections, we stand at a perilous crossroads. Join the Center on Faith and Justice for a conversation with Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr., the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor, Chair of the Department of African American Studies at Princeton University and author of Begin Again: James Baldwin's America and its Urgent Lessons for Our Own and Democracy in Black: How Race Still Enslaves the American Soul.

To the lady that asked the question on how to stop racism, that's very easy..
Stop the hatred in your heart and treat people the way that you would like to be treated and don't look down on anyone!!!

... and if you are white, you must engage with your own internalized racism through an extended period of self-examination and preferably some group work. INDIFFERENCE and quietism are your main enemy and obstacle to becoming a true human being!

My black grandson was baptized in the church, became an acolyte, his mother joined the choir, and church women said we would like him to go to the church school with their children, so we applied for the 6th grade, and he was rejected, saying he was a behavior problem. I don't know how he could be before being in the school, but if true don't you offer some kind of help? The worse part was the silence, no one said they were sorry he was rejected, I believe it was because they knew why. I later asked one of his teachers, a white male. and his answer was we still have racism. I did get a call from the rector, not the headmaster, saying it wasn't because he was black. Again, he didn't say he was sorry he didn't get in, just don't badmouth the parish, I later send an Email with Matt 18: 6, then received a nice letter saying to change my membership. I love the Episcopal Church and want him confirmed, but don't dare risk him again. The good news that in his current school he is getting all kinds of awards. The principal just took him out for lunch the other day. To be estranged from the church and being afraid to take a grandchild to church is not pleasant. Where is the Episcopal Church welcomes you for him? Pax Christi.

America is EXACTLY what it was created to be; however, the loss of free labor and the continued presence of the ancestors of the formally enslaved has caused the reactionary laws, policies, practices and socilaization that brings you together today.

This was a great conference. Eddie Glaude, Jr and Jim Wallis are two wise and caring men. Their discussion on race and white supremacy in America was enlightening and reinforced so many of my own beliefs. White supremacy and racism are the underlying foundations of so many of America's problems. America will not progress until white supremacy is addressed by white people. I would ask the curators of the video to edit or delete the first 29 minutes, and start the video with Jim Wallis' opening statement.

MISTER Glaude is what you get when you call someone awarded the Carl A. Fields Award, instead of the Fields Medal, an "academic."

We're all aware that the academic, DR. Eddie Glaude was awarded the Carl A. Fields Memorial Award which is not to be confused with the Fields Medal. What are you on about?

@@paradoxicalcanons, we know the diff between the Field medal (for excellence in mathematics) and the Field Award for human achievement. Each has its own separate purpose. So what’s your point? Eddie is a professor at Princeton and a stunning public intellectual. That’s why he was given the Carl Fields Award.
