Totally get multiple passions. Martial arts. Reading. Maths. Politics. Writing. Acting. Metal Detecting. And the rest. Best wishes with all your passions and to your channel.
Yes! There's always an ongoing list of things to try out, right? ;) Thank so much!
Just today alone, I had the thoughts "should I try to get into fashion?", "should I try to play my guitar more often, upload more guitar youtube videos and write a song?", "should I write about this subject for my thesis over this one?", "should I change my diet?". And just generally, I've questioned whether I should become a scientist, or a spiritual teacher, a musician, a clinical psychologist or counselor, a videomaker, an entrepreneur, or work for some organization that fits my values. I think I fit that term :D
Yes!! This happens to me all the time these brilliant ideas about what I want to do or what I want to be pop into my head, haha, it never stops! When I was doing my masters I had a terrible time trying to figure out my research topic, simply because I wanted to focus on too many things :(
What is your current idea??
@@genie_hawk Hehe I see. My current idea is to compare meditators who are motivated by religious/spiritual motivations ("spiritual enlightenment") with meditators who are motivated by stress reduction to see if they experience different effects from meditation and whether these differences can be measured in the brain (e.g. Default Mode Network activation). I study behavioral neuroscience if that wasn't clear hehe. So far, it seems a bit optimistic for a master's thesis according to one of my potential advisors.
However, the same advisor actually has a pilot study exploring the relationship between music and mindfulness (I'm hesitant to reveal too much about it hehe), and he is offering me the opportunity to perform the full-blown study on that. And I'm very happy about that, because that research question overlaps so much with my personal experiences, as well as other ideas I've thought about as research questions. But I'll have to wait and see when we discuss it a little further.
What was your thesis about? :D
Love the term 'multipotentialite'. It's a hard life to live at first. There were definitely parts in my life where I felt behind or just plain incompetent. But I've since found that when the odd pursuits start playing into each other, truly novel opportunities open up. I'm still trying to 'figure things out' lol - but maybe that's simply what a lifestyle of curiosity is all about.
Oh, I absolutely relate with your journey!! Doesn't it feel great to find a word that finally captures what you've been feeling? Also, totally get that it sometimes seems like we're falling behind when we compare ourselves to the norm, but I’m thrilled to hear about the novel opportunities you’re discovering as your passions intersect! It’s comforting to remember that being in a constant state of curiosity and figuring things out isn’t a shortfall-it’s part of who we are and can actually make us happier if we embrace it! Let's keep exploring and being curious :)
Talent stacking!
@@basketballbear Ooooo I like the sound of that!
Thank you so much for the insights! I thought it was useless to pursue the goal to learn a wide range of things without focusing on specific ones (mostly due to time constraints). Now I feel better with the idea😅
Yes!! Let the goals flow in and out as they please haha
this is the first time discovering the word “multipotentialite,” but it perfectly describes how i feel. it’s like a massage to the brain haha. thank you for this video. it’s brought me peace & acceptance for how cool we are for loving so many different things.
I'm so thrilled to hear that it resonated with you! You're describing what I felt, too, when I first discovered this whole personality type. It's like finding the piece of a puzzle that suddenly makes everything fit! Your excitement and sense of peace in this discovery are exactly why I made this video :)
I feel so seen🍜👀👌
My specialty is to be a hospital physician and I'm good at that, but I work in a large business-dominated health system where I feel quite constrained. My real passion is physics, mathematics, philosophy, music--Quadrivium type things. This is what I actually wish to pursue. I do pursue it, actually, and have some unique ideas. I don't present my physics ideas, however, because I have this belief that I have to be specialized in mathematical physics which I am not!
Wow thank you so much for sharing it's great to read about the journey of a fellow multipotentialite! Even your unique experience as a physician could offer interesting insights into those other fields-don't hold back from sharing your ideas!! The world needs more thinkers who can bridge these different domains!!
Have you heard of Karl Friston? He's a psychiatrist & neuroscientist by training, went to med school and had contributions in algorithms for neuroimaging and now he's pursuing this one idea called the "free energy principle" that integrates a lot of ideas from mathematical physics (can even get quite technical, involving variational calculus, probability theory & statistical mechanics), philosophy, neuroscience and artificial intelligence. You may want to look him up.
The renaissance soul, a smile becomes you!
: When you're doing this, you miss doing that 😂....-
Idk if its a burden or a blessing though!
Ah, the classic multipassionate dilemma-feeling like you're always missing out on something else, no matter what you're doing. It's like being at a banquet with endless dishes but only one stomach! I definitely get fatigue over it haha but just gotta keep trying to find ways to make it work :)
Thank you! A lovely example of synchronicity today. Weird how your channel has landed on my lap today. I needed to hear something like this to help me let go of unproductive need to choose one path, or at least to know there are others who have many interests such that it feel like you have none. Everyone says follow you passion, but what do you do when you have so many passions which pull you in so many directions. Good luck with your channel. I need to get mine going.
Thank you so much! I’m happy to hear it helped. I feel you, I spent so long feeling inadequate as I got older and still wasn’t following one set path. But we don’t have to feel that way and we don’t need to make excuses to anyone anymore :)
And please do make a channel! We desperately need more multipassionate content creators.
I found this video helpful and it also showed me that im not alone. For me the approach to integrate works because Im exploring artificial intelligence which is an inter disciplinary field
Great to hear! Oh word me, too! I just finished a big educational milestone and have been looking into the next thing to learn and am interested in data and AI. I think it's a great potential path for people like us!
@@genie_hawkCongratulations on completing your educational milestone!

Freeman Dyson is probably a better example than Musk of a modern 'renaissance man'.
Thank you!!! I’ll look into them!
I seriously needed good examples but every time I searched online big name company owners came up argh
Musk is a sham.
A divergent thinker huh, I should've known there was a name for it! Cheers to all of us out there with too many passionate interests to choose just one.
Let's never restrict ourselves again!
You're a masterpiece, the apple of His eyes.
Keep going.
God bless you and your family.
The way your editing style immediately made me realize you had some Asian inspirations hahaha
Hahah oh! Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Lol I've been in Asia for a while so I guess it's inevitable! But I know from watching Korean TV sometimes the editing is a bit too much so maybe I'll reign it in...haha
@@genie_hawk no, I like it! it's very calming in the pauses but also exciting when you speak
@@psyzbunny oh awesome!! That’s great to hear tbh :)
Had to stop it at you saying not special, thats not true. Everything else you said gives life to the dead. Thanks for your content its a godsend
You're too nice!! Thank you for watching and I hope I can keep giving you good content :)
Would be great to have a video abaout each book you recommend!
Thank you so much for the recommendation!! I'm working on this actually, I'm thinking to dedicate a video to each book. I'm just very slow at making videos because I've got way too many ideas brewing haha
loved this video. Very educating & interesting.
Thank you!
good one! please link to the books in your description :) new subscriber here
Oh!! Why didn't I do that hahah thank you for reminding me! Hope they serve you well :)
Noticed you're a lefty too.
Specialization is boring😁
Agreed!
Well, actually, we owe pretty much everything in modern life to specialization. With that, products are churned out with minimum cost, making them more affordable.
@@furkan6402 agree, is the efficient way to build products.
As a founder of Cygnus-A2, a Fintech Startup, one of my jobs is to hire people with some specific skills. Experts in their field!
As entrepreneurs, we provide the “Vision”, our strength😁
@@furkan6402 Right :) Didn’t mean to come off as a specialist hater haha we 100% need em!! And it’s honestly great that most people are specialists it’s what’s made our world what it is today. But not everyone has what it takes to be one and that’s okay too ;)
