  • We visit our friends in Ushi to experience their simple, Armenian village life.
We've added a Patreon link to our channel: www.patreon.com/user?u=83464204 You can really make a difference by supporting us so that we can keep creating interesting and informative videos about life in Armenia.
Ushi Village is roughly 30kms northwest of Yerevan...a pleasant 40 minute drive from the capital. Located in the Aragatsotn Province of Armenia, Ushi contains a 10th-century chapel, and approximately 1 km outside the village are the ruins of Saint Sargis Monastery of the 7th to 13th centuries.
There are fruit trees everywhere and almost everyone in the village grows their own vegetables.
Ushi is a "simple little paradise," which lies under the shadow of Mt Aragats, Armenia's highest peak.

I visited Armenia twice, but never any villages. Houses in Armenian villages remind me of those in my ancestral land of Abruzzo Italy. The villages in the Appenines are severely depopulated and the Italian Government is selling abandoned houses for as little as 1 Euro under the condition that the houses are renovated within a year or two. If Armenia is facing the same problem of depopulated villages as does Italy, perhaps it should try selling abandoned homes to people who will renovate them. My only concern is that such an action could harm traditional Armenian culture and village lifestyle. However, if the villages are emptying, then something must be done to save them.

U make a good point. My only concern with that is how do we know Armenians r going to buy the homes? With the traitorous Pashinyan as our PM turks are buying real estate in Armenia. They will slowly buy up all these properties damaging Armenia and Armenian traditional lifestyle from within the country.

@Mr Bush Lied...that's a very interesting comment! Yes, I've heard of this phenomena in Italy and in a few other countries too. I think even in some depopulated towns in Australia. I guess the danger is that the folks who buy these properties will not have the same "heart" for the village as the previous owners. In Armenia the danger of losing these little villages (especially the most vulnerable ones near the border) is very present.
Perhaps the only way to keep the locals is to promote a kind of eco tourism. We featured a village (5 Villages in Syunik) like this some time ago, and they're trying to promote tourism there now. Staying in a village home, looking at how they live and experiencing the Amazing hospitality of village Armenians would appeal to a lot of people I believe. We just need to promote this kind of tourism in a very professional way I think.

When I see the words "village life" I have to watch it, specially when it's in Amenia.
We have our one way tickets in our hand and will be in Yerevan on the 23th of September and will be buying a house in a near by village, not sure where exactly yet.
Mitch, you and your wife are invited at our house, let's keep in touch.

Great! Maybe you meant quinces (Cydonia oblonga!) The real "apple" that Eve offfered Adam! 🤣 Very fragrant and rich in pectin and notoriously difficult to cook but native to the Caucasus! I would appreciate any info! Thank you from Costa Rica 🇦🇲💕🇨🇷

@Rafael Ernesto Rosabal...you are absolutely right about quinces (I added an H for some unknown reason)...then it was too late once I uploaded it!
I believe my wife has some Armenian recipes using quinces. I'll ask her when she wakes up...Saturday is her sleep in day!
Actually, the quinces from this region are really very succulent...but they ARE an acquired taste!
