They call it a beginner's bike but it also does a great job for older guys who aren't interested in top power and adjustables anymore, but prefer a decent all-rounder for a relatively low price. I'm 58 and had more than 30 bikes, including a ZX9R, a 1400 Intruder and several K100s. I am not looking for more power than the CBR provides, and I don't feel the need to go 150+ km/h on highways anymore. I really enjoyed my 2015 CBR500R, it was fast enough, did all I wanted it to do and more, and I was surprised at the low fuel consumption, only 3,6L/100 km on average. It pulls strongly from above idle, has plenty of power in the mid range, and I actually like that it doesn't rev to 12,000 rpm but runs out of steam at 8,700 rpm.
I don't really like the looks of the new 500R, therefor the new F looks better than the old model, and I'd go for the F next time because of the more upright seating position which makes for better handling in the city.
What impressed me most is that the bike did everything well, right from the first time I got on it. Other bikes may have more power or are lighter, look better, offer more on paper, but may also have some weaknesses or drawbacks.
I also liked the position of the foot pegs which don't bend the joints too much which makes for a relaxed riding position. Compare this bike to another bike you're interested in on cycle-ergo.com/ - you may be surprised that bigger bikes may be more cramped than this one.

Thanks for sharing. I am 55 and want to resume riding after 30 yrs. Your description of life and bike are just like mine. Decision made - 500F!

I am 28 and I came to the conclusion that for a daily commuter bike for city and some freeway the 500f is more than enough to do the job. Plus the mpg’s are way better than 4 cylinder sport bikes and some v twins. Enjoy guys

This is why I'm subscribed to Visordown... I'm not in the market for this bike. But, the info is informative, fluently presented and engaging to watch. Pros and cons included without bias and when opinions are included, they're stated as opinions that are useful. Keep doing reviews like this!

If they're anything like the older cb500 twins they'll do everything reasonably well and last about a million miles.

They've got the cosmetics of both the bikes bang on.... personally i love naked street fighters and the CB500f is so tempting... well done Honda.

Have a 2015 and really like it. The new models look really sharp, especially the led headlights. Nice job Honda. Will be upgrading to something a little more powerful and sporty in about a year and a half or so. Good review!

You need to use more compression and limiting on your voice overs as the levels are inconsistent.

Great looking bikes, I hope Honda applys the same styling to the bigger 600RR and Fireblade in the future.

Only in Europe and the UK will the CBR600RR no longer be available after 2016. Honda is still making it and it will be available everywhere else.

Thank you - an excellent review. It is a pity that the current CB 500 bikes specs are inferior to the specs of the 1993-2003 Honda CB 500 - 471 cc vs 499 cc, 47 bhp vs 57 bhp, 34 ft/lbs vs 35 ft-lbs and 194 kg vs 174kg.

Looking at going from a CFMoto 150-A Leader to the Honda CB500F. Naked to Naked, 150cc to 500cc, i think its a sensible jump, I'm holding off until i get my full license though but i doubt they'll update this bike again that soon.

test rode the cb500f yesterday and didn't really like the ergonomics of it. the area where your legs grip the bike just seemed too wide. maybe it's because I'm on the shorter side (5ft 5) but I much prefered the sv650 that I rode the same day. Also the sv is a good $1500 cheaper here in NZ.

I bought the cb500f 2017, ONE OF THE MOST BORING MOTORCYCLES I HAVE EVER RIDE. seriously its like riding a scooter, it LACKS character so much. heavy, underpowered, soft suspension. My MT-125 was like so much more fun to ride, even though it had less Horsepower. Seriously i think that only offroad hondas and 1000cc hondas are worth it. Switching to yamaha mt-07 in a couple weeks.

lol, but in all honesty I got tired of my 500R in 7 months, don't get me wrong it's a fun bike but 43 wHP out of a 470cc twin is lackluster at best, it can get the front wheel up in 1st and 2nd but runs out of steam at about 80mph comfortably.
