    After a couple years, I finally got it to work properly. You need at least 10 seconds or more for the machine to enter descaling mode. I used to just run the descaling liquid on the regular cycle mode. There needs to be instructions included with the descaling kit. It’s absurd that people need to check UA-cam to figure out how to use this product!

    1. Start with the machine unplugged. Check the machine to make sure no nespresso pods are loaded.
    2. Plug the machine in. Press and hold both buttons for 5 seconds. Both buttons will start flashing rapidly (3-4 times/second). Do not confuse this with the slower flashing speed (1-2 times /second). If this happens, unplug the machine and start over.
    3. Empty one (1) 100mL packet of the descaling solution in the water reservoir. Fill the reservoir with 0.5L of water, or until the reservoir is almost full like in the video.
    4. Place a glass bowl, preferably one with a spout like a Pyrex measuring glass, under the coffee outlet.
    5. Press the Lungo button once. The machine will immediately start cycling the solution through the machine, until the reservoir is empty. Descaling should be done in a well-ventilated area.
    6. Once the first cycle is done, fill the reservoir with the used descaling solution. Press the Lungo button once more to run the solution though the machine a second time.
    7. Dispose of the descaling solution and rinse the reservoir out. Fill with clean water, press the Lungo button again to start the first rinse.
    8. Fill the reservoir again with clean water and run a second rinse.
    9. Press and hold both buttons for 5 seconds to exit descaling mode, or unplug the machine.

      Thank you for the written steps. Minor correction (at least in my experience), after plugging the machine in, you need to turn it on, THEN press and hold the two buttons

      Also it sometimes doesn't get out of descaling mode if not unplugged for too long. I got a messy coffee because of that lol

    What would be truly useful is if more comprehensive instructions actually came with the actual machine instead of having to hunt around for a tutorial. I have had 2 of these Essenza mini machines. Neither of them would enter descaling mode until almost 10 secs passed and both got stuck in descaling mode. I had to wait closer to15 seconds before exit. This seems to be a common issue. I also found the quality of the coffee produced inferior post descale. My previous machine - another brand - had full instructions and worked every time. It also told me when the machine needed to be descaled.

      Absolutely agree with you. I've had 2 of these machines. I won't be buying another. Despite looking after them both carefully they both started pouring water out of the housing instead of the spout after about a years worth of use. The instructions are hopeless and the troubleshooting guide is no use whatsoever

    This comment might help someone in the future
    If the machine is OFF and you press the two buttons, for five seconds it basically empties the inside water
    If the machine is ON and you press the two buttons for five seconds it enters descaling mode
    If you long press lungo button it RESETS

    Be cautious - this video is a lie. Once you hold two buttons for 5 seconds - the cup indicators start flashing one by one, and the process begins immediately. The machine does not know when to stop, and won't shutoff by any button combination - only unplugging the cord helps. Not that this video explained how to stop the descaling once the container is empty anyway. Also no info if we should pour hot descaling fluid back to container or wait for it to cool.

      Hello, when the descaling cycle is complete, it’s important to fill the water tank completely, and run through the descaling cycle with fresh water.       Same problem here. The both button did not start flashing, instead one by one. And started the process quickly. You made customers wrong. Change this video!!

      You need to turn on the machine first then hold two button for 5 seconds. Otherwise it start immediately.

    Hy Mine is not blinking like in the video after 5sec just 1 button at the time . Going through the water tough but im not sure if its noenal.

    You should have shown the the spent container water/descaler going back into the water reservoir for a second round. I missed that.

      Agreed. The video has way to many jump cuts. A lot of professionally produced instructional videos put way too much effort into looking good and not nearly enough effort into showing how all the steps fit together.

    I am going to reach out to your local shop for support, I think. While the instructions are clear, my Mini actually doesn’t go through the cycles - i.e., no need to press the lungs button to start each cycle. It just keeps on draining the water from the tank and will keep going even when there is no more water.

      You don’t do the thing with the buttons until you’ve turned it on first. Then hold the huttons if you do it to turn it on this is what happens.
      Unplug machine. then hold the lungo button while you plug it in/turn plug on. Should fix

      Mine did the same thing. It just kept going without any push of the ligo button. I had to hurry up and go through the cycles really fast to avoid spilling descaling liquid and water everywhere. I hope i didnt mess anything up.

    I've done the descaling process but i forgot there was a capsule left in the container and after the whole descaling process it's stopped working. No more water was pumped so i opened the whole machine and tried to fix the issue. The machine was properly decalcified and cleaned inside but the electric sensor to get water to pump for pressure i guess was broken. Still when i start the machine i hear a soft suond, little water is pumped but not enough to make the classic noisy suond (no suond at all) but water is heated. Any solutions?
    Btw these nespresso are a pain to open, make it more friendly from this pov cuz i want to fix my own stuff easy

    my essenza mini doesn’t leak when I make coffee but started leaking everywhere while descaling. This has happened with 2 different essenza minis. This process is too complicated also

A weekly cleaning will keep the brew unit clear of grinds and coffee residue.

    How difficult is this?!? If the company wants an easy fix that doesn’t compromise the design,let me know! After descaling I cleaned up everything and just now I wanted my morning coffee and spent 10 15min resetting it as it wouldn’t want to be normal again 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😤😤😤

      Having that happen before your morning caffeine jolt is just extra torture. In general Nespresso spends too much effort on image and not enough on substance (the nitty gritty of the user experience).

      We suggest using the descaling agent we offer.

    My machine is still in the descaling mode, blinking fast after the descaling process is finished. Turned off the power, turned on after 1 hour, the machine is still in tbe descaling mode. What should i do? I am in Australia.

    I have 3 essenza MIni and the same thing happened with each one. After decalcification looks like they are stuck in descaling mode. I did a factory reset and it still doesn't work. The LEDs on the buttons are flashing and no longer turning off by themselves.

    Wow! Not at all helpful!! Especially when your machine doesn't respond by simultaneous flashing but quick alternating flashing and then the non-stop pouring of alllllll the liquid until the machine began coughing as it ran out of water....
    No button response.
    Had to UNPLUG to make it stop
    Is that normal Nespresso??

    I descaled my Essenza Mini. Needed extra rinse. But now when I want to make coffee, i press one button and it keeps flashing . When I pressed my espresso button , after waiting for a couple of minutes it went back to descaling mode. How can I fix this?

      once every 6 months is fine i think, with daily use

    guys my machine does not go into descaling mode when i press the two buttons simultaneously it just shuts off (like the lights don’t blink it shuts off)

    The absolut worst machines. Yesterday I experienced making three cups of coffee right after each other. That NEVER happens. It's usually starts in descaling mode, and the procedure of holding down the two buttons does feck all. I have to yank it out of the power socket and plug it back in to force it to stop. Then I have to wait 30 seconds for it to warm up, and then usually go right back into descaling, having to do it all over again.
    Writing this I've done this 10 times in a row with NO results.

    Pour super hot descaling solution BACK into the plastic reservoir? Doesn’t seem right…

      The Essenza Mini water tank is proportionately small, so to effectively descale the machine, it's necessary to run the descaling solution through the machine twice. This process will not cause damage to the Essenza Mini.
