I still have my 81 it 465 from when i was 13. Needs a carb. the bike absolutely ripped and had the best times of my life on this bike. Never forget the unique sound of the 465 roost machines.
That’s an awful lot of bike for a 13 year old, I had a “81 YZ465 when l was 17 and it was all l could do to keep the front end down and keep my asshole from puckering up.
I still have my also from when I was a kid. Love taking it out a couple of times a year. But never let the beast run out of gas. It's unstoppable. If you know you know!
This channel is so much fun to watch. I used to watch TV shows like American Chopper and Monster Garage. This is 100x better. I love motocross bikes. All bikes really. Ken seems like such a cool guy too. All the guys are. Love the passion! Nice 465. Set up well like all the bikes here.
Always loved the IT's growing up, as a young kid. My favorite ones were the blue and yellow ones, but that is also a beautiful bike in it's own right, that I would love to own and ride. Jay took great care of his bikes, just like any true bike lover will do. ML&R.
Back in the 90s my buddy pulled a IT465 out of a barn and got it running good and I had a 1988 honda cr250 . Those were some good times. We were both 13 back then out ripping around the Limestone quarries and woods here in Southern Indiana. My buddy is no longer with us and I'm 44. See you in Heaven one day old friend and hopefully God will keep your silencer on that 465 up there because it was always falling off on it down here. 😂
OMG! Drooling over this one! DG pipe! I was riding a YZ495 at that time as a young kid! Rocket! I would dream of having one of those when I saw it at Popp's Yamaha in Walden, NY!
My 81 IT 465 was a monster. Loved it. Traded it for a 1971 Honda CT 70 - the IT was too big to ride with my son on his 1999 Honda ZR50. All of the bikes mentioned are still alive and kicking!
One of our riding buddies from this era had one of these. We STILL talk about it 40+ years later. His was allegedly the “last, new, white IT-465 sold from a dealer east of the Mississippi”. Legendary bike, especially in our little Southern Indiana town of Bedford. Thank you Kaplan for featuring yet another gem that is well out of the mainstream and not many people seem to know about.🙏👍😉
Once upon a time.........I test rode a 2nd hand IT465 I was about 13yrs old late 80's early '90's - A Day I can Never Forget!! It was a overcast day & had rained earlier that day! The Bike was in an Industrial Estate not to far from my Dad's business, I managed to persuade my reluctant Mother to take me to see the Yammie IT465- My only concern was Price, & it was within my 1yr hard earned savings budget! No other F's Given!! No consideration was given to the fact the "Fastest bike on the Planet Earth" to me was an Old beaten up 1981 PE175 my Uncle's Mate lent me for a weekend😁 & I'd only owned a Pissy lil Yammie TY80🤨 The PE175 had awoken the 2 Stroke Testosterone in my Bloodstream 💪 & I wanted MORE!! The Ty80 was thus Dead to me, & sold to mate who was Overjoyed to own his 1st bike!! Going from basically a 1977 TY80 Trials bike to a Man Eating 465cc 2 Stroke Tyrannosaurus what could go wrong!!? 🤔 You Guessed it the Ride was Brief & Terrifying!! The front wheel po-go'd upwards in every gear change despite wet asphalt & knobby tyres!! I had less than 5mins on the bike I'd say, but it felt like a Lifetime like any Near Death Experience!! For a kid with No Big Bore bike experience & was quite a revelation!! The look on the guys face when I returned was priceless! He had a "Told you So" look on his face! It goes without saying, I didn't buy the 465! When i shook hands with the seller & said "Thanks but No Thanks" my arms were still trembling! Looking back it was the Right Bike @ the Wrong time!! Still wish to this day I'd bought a Big Bore Stroker!! I guess I stuck with only 250 CRs KXs & Yzs prolly from that 1st 465 experience!! Like getting burnt playing with 🔥 you never forget it!! I've owned a lot of Fast Street Bikes but Nothing compares to Big Bore 2T T-Rex Power!! 🦖 Much Love to Ken Kaplan America🇺🇸🤍 & the New England Motorcycle Museum & All the Staff!! Livin' the Dream & Keeping these Engineering Marvel's Alive!! So all of us can Reminisce & Live Vicariously through the UA-cam Screen & see our Dream Machines in Action with Ken Kaplan!! 🤍 Thankyou🙋🏼♂️
Yamaha tanks on their Enduro bikes back then, the blue tanks turn green and the white turn yellow ,after a few decade's of weathering and abuse the gas ⛽ just spills out 😮😂🤟
just a FYI, kaps microphone is coming out on right speaker only, i think when editing this video someone selected Right channel only and not "mono channel"
you gotta get your IT tanks from gilmoto, guys in uk have had these 465 tanks remade to factory specs and look a million times better than that horrible clark thing
Its funny because these older bikes had the power, but the suspension seems ancient. Its got a single rear shock, but it looks like a chopper with senior riding it. Long forks and low, squatted rear.
I got a 1981 it465 and cant figure out how to tune it without the air induction box is there any pointers that could help me or a place i can get another one from
There are head mods to make your 490cc fast like Broc on race gas and not have any pinging. =The YZ/iT 490 and WR500 are vastly under appreciated. All these big bore Yamaha 2-strokes are a real joy to ride and/or race.
@@2-strokeracer531 UA-cam science! In the reviews I've seen I've heard more than once that the 465 was the better bike. Better powerband was one reason I've heard. I'm certainly no expert.
I have never seen a living white one. -This white iT is very rare, plus the white color plastic never lasts (turns yellow) like this one did. You do see many of the faded blue. =Very collectible if yours is an original white or blue and still looks good.
Hi Kaplan, i am like a lot off guys,a bigbore-fan and i was wondering if there would be people interested in a Honda cr480 in a modern frame, modern ignition and so on,because before i'm going to disassemble a perfectly good cr250, i want to know what you think and the twostroke fans here? Br from france
I guess i have to start building then😁 ps i will have to sell my 700cc zabel engine(completely refurbished) for project-ruppies, if you know someone interested in a huge zabel?

Me too I had a 79’ IT 175 as my first bike and an 86’ 200 later in life and I should have kept that one. Maybe you’ll find an old blue and yellow gem

The IT-modells from Yamaha are very great and i missed one in my collection. Many greetings from southwest germany 😊
Nice crisp big bore sound of the IT. I got one of those and am fixing it up. Can’t wait to ride it.

I had a 82 IT250, most reliable 2smoke ever, idle around all day or run pinned out never fouled, huge factory tank..still miss it..
Missing the bashplate
That triangle swingarm is SO sweet.
I had a blue 465 bored out to 490 kept pulling the studs out the head blowing the head gasket.
It sold for probably $2000 in the day. Now you'd hafta fight to get one. Awesome!
Absolutely stunning.
Lovely bit of kit Ken!👍🦾🦾🦾
Slap some plates on that bad boy.
Pretty cool Kap! Love to see more older Yamahas & Suzukis 💯. -Ohio
Hell yeah I got one just like that I like the white ones way better than the blue

I would love to have that bike but couldn't afford it right now. I love the IT series bikes
I remember when those first started showing up at Metcalf. Lightswitch powerband and fast as hell.
You better wear a boot trying to start it
Nice A White one I believe 2yrs I got a White 82 IT175 it's Barn been there for 30 years For some reason I never got rid of that bike in

What a trench digger that bike is my friend had one.

I had a 1980 IT 125 when i was a kid, thing done close to 80 mph, it ripped considering it was only a 125
Beautiful bike 😊
Have you seen many 250’s from this year?
Remember the it175 in blue and they made it a 200 later on
Sweet ride 👌
So I had a brand new IT 250 in 1981 best bike I have had in 250 class would love to get that one how much would take it

Dosent sound as high revving as a race bike
The 465 was better than the IT 490. Weird, but true.
