He got the Oscars due to the fact that Slumdog Millionaire was probably one if the hardest films to direct in the last 20 years. And to pull it off so well was incredible to say the least.

@@yahiryellow1for the time, bollywood was (and somewhat still is) its own entity and didn’t want anything to do with western movie making, particularly europeans investing in filmmaking. so for an englishman to deliver a story that’s true to their culture after decades of their own people tormenting India for their resources is remarkable in its own way. it was difficult to make this movie in due to that and because of it, bollywood movies have been distributed globally more than ever before.

Why? Dark Knight was just a story with no moral etc. If you look at the movies that win Oscars they always cover some harsh story etc. (maybe not "No country for old men") Slumdog Millionaire did that perfectly.

There are several "Who wants to be a millionaire" around the world with different presenters, my country for exemple had one with a local presenter. Regis image is only connected to the show for Americans (which Danny Boyle isn't). But the program is just the setting, a scenerio, what is really important on the movie is Jamal's life journey.

It is certainly better than your typical comic book adaptation, I'd argue that it isn't Nolan's best & that in hindsight, Slumdog Millionaire's direction was definitely better & the story the film tells is so unique.
