He got the Oscars due to the fact that Slumdog Millionaire was probably one if the hardest films to direct in the last 20 years. And to pull it off so well was incredible to say the least.
Why is that?
so true
@@ishiishi7351 only british director can handle that
@@helloyouhellome3004 never an answer to come but a statement awarding it
@@yahiryellow1for the time, bollywood was (and somewhat still is) its own entity and didn’t want anything to do with western movie making, particularly europeans investing in filmmaking. so for an englishman to deliver a story that’s true to their culture after decades of their own people tormenting India for their resources is remarkable in its own way. it was difficult to make this movie in due to that and because of it, bollywood movies have been distributed globally more than ever before.
Slumdog Millionaire was phenomenal.
It sure was! A masterpiece.
Is* :)
Landon Bangerter the dark knight deserved it
Why? Dark Knight was just a story with no moral etc. If you look at the movies that win Oscars they always cover some harsh story etc. (maybe not "No country for old men") Slumdog Millionaire did that perfectly.
SOHAM BOSE no your opinion is though
It's a shame that Chris Nolan wasn't nominated, but Danny Boyle was a great Best Director choice regardless.
Vidisha Roy Nolan has literally never made a movie that was even 1/3 as good as Trainspotting or 28 Days Later.
crappingcat nah, he made some which are way better.
@Anshul Kaushik hahaha whatever you say...
I do agree that Nolan was terribly snubbed for directing....however when it comes to choosing a winner, I would give it to Boyle...And Best Picture to TDK...Both were the best films of the year an this would be how I'd like the awards to split...
Trainspotting is leagues above anything Christopher Nolan ever made.
Danny Boyle is seriously one of the best directors ever and it's awesome that he got the recognition he deserved.
Danny boyle lives like 5 mins away from me in Radcliffe such a cool guy he is always funding local events and things like that,it's good to see an English man doing well in Hollywood that wasn't born with a sliver spoon up there arse like cumberbatch or redmayne or any other Oxford tory posh boys, doing us in the north west proud danny
Ido Portal you meam dog shit valley! its ok for me to say that.
silverspoon?
Ido Portal Looks like you don't know that people who are born with silver spoon are humble too. You just named two of them.
5 mins away from me too :P
Danny is so fucking awesome. Just... pure charisma and joy. Plus, he has the best fashion style.
Plus he looks like Jerry Horne from Twin peaks.
1997residente O_O
A person saying "I am an Idiot" while receiving an Oscar is Incredible!.
Usually people winning Oscar are like they are really talented and gifted and at the top of the world and what not.
That's why I think he is great.
🐯 he definitely earned that Oscar. Boyle is without a doubt one of the most diverse directors of all time.
Danny Boyle should’ve also won for Trainspotting, 28 days later, 127 hours and Steve Jobs. I think this dude has become my favourite director cause while all his movies are different he directs them all perfectly!! I hope to be as good as him one day
Danny Boyle seems like such a cool guy. Not always crazy about his movies but man I like him.
He deserves it...great direction...master piece...
Slumdog Millionaire has great directing.
jwelch5742 wow
At least, he mentioned the uncredited choreographer from the dance sequence
David Fincher is just like- bitch please
his reactions were priceless! lmfao!
Still can't believe that the Reader was nominated over the Dark Knight and Wall-E.
yes reality is a bitch
Can't get over it yet..Nolan was badly snubbed for directing..
I’ll never get over it. 😂 Too good for the Oscar I guess.
@@luishern1309 dark knight is better than black panther
@@hckingking Black Panther didn't get a directing nomination, either, tho.
He remembered Longinus Fernandes on such a grand platform and apologized for the mistake in credits- beautiful! Beautiful! Not a big fan of Slumdog Millionaire but this speech makes me love Danny so much :)
Dany boyle, who just choreoographed the recent olympic london ceremony will now be knighted by the queen, he's such a genious and derserving.
Danny refused his knighthood saying 'It's just not my cup of tea' like any decent working class Mancunian.
Danny Boyle can go from shallow grave to a bunch of junkies, to post apocalyptic zombie movie, to space sci fi, and so many other genres, he is the best director this world has today!
i really admire him.
And he’s about to do the bond franchise
Definitely underrated
That's what growing up in Radcliffe does to you. My mutants will agree. All of genres you mentioned are walking around here haha. Also there are some incredibly epic people here too. We have it all.
@@Cronenberglynch Hes British.
Slumdog Millionaire was one of my favorite movies in my childhood!! But the fact that the film and its director won Oscars surprised me!
2:02 Did he say "Fuck me"?
He was saying that to Reese Witherspoon
What a genuinely nice guy. Well deserved!
Watching this video, you would never know that brilliant, critically acclaimed movies of 2008, like The Dark Knight and The Wrestler ever existed.
Christopher Nolan should've been nominated
But he still wouldn't have won, they don't give much credit to SciFi movie, wich is important part of cinema
@@477_sy.it.babhishektiwari4 Inception isn't sci fi though technically, it is mostly just action and thriller
Yes bro Cristopher Nolan sir is a jenius.
TheDragonKing I believe he was referring to The Dark Knight which came out the same year as this movie was. Either way, he should’ve been nominated for both
@@nickbx28 My point still stands, The Dark Knight isn't sci fi either
St Mary's Radcliffe, St Mary's was my school, it was my church, and the social club is still there. I thought I would come and watch his speech 15 years later. Never thought I would hear my little town be mentioned at an Oscars. Proud to have Danny Boyle as a local lad. One of the best
makes me proud to be from the same little town as him. Radcliffe Manchester
Mentioning Longiness...pure class. Great director, well deserved
This guy makes me feel more optimistc about the new Steve Jobs movie
My choice would have either been David Fincher or Gus
Aww lovely speech, love how he mentions my hometown! He's a Radcliffe lad!
Slumdog has such an excellent cinematograhpy .
Mis directores favoritos juntos. Gus van Sant, David Fincher y Danny Boyle
Be sure to watch ALL of Danny Boyle's movies if you haven't.
He's never missed.
I haven't seen all of his films but Yesterday was rather disappointing, I blame the screenwriter though.
Gotta love how critical people can be of something they can't do any better themselves
insane competition
How wasn’t Chris Nolan nominated?
2:01 - “Fuck me.”
Slumdog Millionaire es de las mejores peliculas de la Historia 🇲🇽
breathtaking film man !
That year slumdog millionaire snatched all awards, what a movie
Great directing
really Reese Witherspoon presenting best director - really
Why not? She won Best Actress
and that year the dark knight is the most watched most fav and one of the great movies period
Should have won Best Picture that year.
He seems like such a nice guy
Danny, you done great Job.
Actually, most recipients are very humble, and thank their fellow nominees and say things like "I am so honored to be talked about amongst these phenomenal actors," or something like that. Very few are vain, or brag about their victory.
You are the most awesome , 28 days later was the best zombie movie , love it,scary though , wishing you all the best please make another one , truly a fan,
Reese is a great presenter !!!
Nolan even not nominated
That should have gone to Christopher Nolan for The Dark Knight.
Slumdog millionair not just movie it's experience❤❤
Where's Nolan's nomination?
Love the British accent..
They look at everything like that! That's what they feel is being said!
I'm a dudette :) Well, I'm not quite sure what you are saying. "Who wants to be a millionaire" became a tv program template. There are several "Who wants to be a millionaire" around the world with different presenters, my country for exemple had one with a local presenter. Regis image is only connected to the show for Americans (which Danny Boyle isn't). But the program is just the setting, a scenerio, what is really important on the movie is Jamal's life journey.
It was a very good year
What's your opinion on 28 Days Later?
I 💙🖤 U Reese Witherspoon
All the nominees are great directors.
His speech should've been "I didn't have to wait 12 years for this"
His Tigger moment!
0:50 Fincher lawd 😍🥰😘
1:16 background music was magical..
One of the best movie.
Slumdog is the best picture of 2008 and it truly deserves it, no doubt. But The Dark Knight was brilliantly directed by Christopher Nolan and he didn't even get a nomination!! No disrespect to Danny Boyle but Nolan deserved this award and personally, I feel David Fincher and Danny Boyle were equally great for a second place
@Rosida Andriyana no it's a superhero movie of batman
TDK didn't age well, I watched it again a couple of years back & it is honestly average. The late Heath Ledger's performance was the best thing about it, imho. It is certainly better than your typical comic book adaptation, I'd argue that it isn't Nolan's best & that in hindsight, Slumdog Millionaire's direction was definitely better & the story the film tells is so unique.
@@Kay-lc4ku everyone this is what a moron sounds like^^^ its 2024 and Slumdog Millionaire has 0 cultural impact. Absolutely 0. Dark Knight should have won best picture and director easily. wow your stupid bro
Love Reese Witherspoon.
2:01 - Did he just say "Fuck me."?
The three nominees who have not previously won--Daldry, Fincher, and most of all, Van Sant--are way overdue for more than just a nomination.
Fincher was robbed for The Social Network
Complete agreement. And for Zodiac, IMO.
Gus van sant is one of my worst directors!
But david fincher is one of my best.
And stephen daldry is great aswell
he's from my town
If only Danny Boyle can get Millions on Blu-Ray or get it on the Criterion Collection.
i think Trance is his most underrated movie
Choose Life !!1
I dunno. I think what Nolan accomplished was more significant, in that he managed to take what everyone dismissed out of hand as a comic book action movie and turn it into an artistic masterpiece. Slumdog Millionaire definitely affects me, but not half as much as The Dark Knight. At the very least, it should've been nominated - both for director and picture.
I love Danny Boyle, and Slumdog Millionaire was a great film (as are several others he's made) but my God did Christopher Nolan deserve that Oscar.
No, Gus van Sant, Fincher or Aronofsky (who was not even nominated) should have won
David Fincher deserves to win it, Chris Nolan deserves to be nominated
Benjamin Button was Astonishing and Great, it was a Masterpiece!!.
The bias against big budget her films by the Academy is overwhelming. That being said, this was well deserved.
No comment about David Fincher? :(
Yeah that movie was gorgeous.
masterpiece film,
masterpiece director
Stephen Daldry needs to win an Oscar! Should've won for The Hours I reckon
Slumdog was equally good as readers or even a little better. The movie had everything.
Should have won for Trainspotting but ok....
Dark Knight should have won best picture, director, cinematography alongside suporting actor...
Nah. Ledger's solid, but Nolan's direction is pretty lacklustre in comparison to his other works. A lot of fast cuts & close ups non stop. Though Best Picture should've been nominated yeah.
Choose life
Best Director should have been:
Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire)
Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler)
Martin McDonagh (In Bruges)
Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) (WINNER)
Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon)
I would remove Howard and put back in Fincher. Benjamin Button is overlooked within his filmography.
Fincher should be here instead of Boyle.
Christopher Nolan should be nominated too.
Wasn't this movie co-directed by Loveleen Tandan? Why wasn't she nominated?
Awesome 😎
Good Movie 🎥
@EricAKATheBelgianGuy Longiness (Fernandes) at IMDB and Longinus at Wikipedia :)
"Fuck me" at 2:02!!! hahaha
HIs daughters seems as nice as he is
reese talks like a teacher lmao
That's what I was thinking
the name "Danny Boyle" might've been inspired by the Irish song "Danny Boy". Just thinking 🤔💭
probably the most british man
1:09
The Dark Knight all the way.TDK was a masterpiece and who cares about the fucking oscars anymore
@alessandritaa 28 Days Later is awesome as well
Ari Folman deserved a nomination for Waltz With Bashir
I don't think the Coen Brothers are wild about doing that
