I grew up being terrified of rats, where we lived we were surrounded by cornfields and every autumn when the corn was harvested, the rats would all seem to come to our house. I remember waking up when I was around 10 and one was sniffing in my ear - I was too terrified to move. Flash forward many years and my wife, who had rats as a child, bought two female rats and was she was leery about telling me because she knew how I felt about rats. Lucky for me, I adore her so much I let put one on my arm. She promptly ran up my arm and began sniffing in my ear!! 10 year old me is having an internal “OMG!OMG!OMG!” moment, and I’m trying, as a grown adult (I think I was in my late 30’s at the time) AND SHE PROCEEDED TO BITE MY EAR!! You would have thought I would have flipped out but instead, from that moment on, I absolutely loved them. We’ve had about 30 or 40 since then but we’ve sworn off any more - the constant heartbreaks every 3 years or so when they pass away just became too much to bear. I still tear up when I think of some of them. Enjoy them every second they’re with you.

@@reeselli3749 i actually got a girl an a boy, because they we closest in age, i had the male neutered, they were both in a tank with males an females so its looking like im going to have an oops litter

Can we find a more royal name than "RATS"? Maybe King Furballs? Or maybe we could call them Tiny People... or something. Anything that shows them to be a lot like people, just a lot smaller, and delightfully furrier.

I am soooo curious about rats, but I know nothing. Do they need a litter box? Do they have to have a cage or can they always run/fun free? Do they mate at all with their own siblings? Do they have separate personalities or are they all the same, pretty much? I like that you think of them all as individuals, and you celebrate that they are different instead of trying to ignore it!
I’d love to help you out!:) first of all rats are so unique with their personalities! I think it’s the cutest thing about them is how unique every one of them is. The cage is up to you, I’d say it’s good for them to have a home base they can be territorial of! It’s great to free roam them as much as possible, I love seeing people who let them out all the time! And unfortunately yes they will mate with their siblings and even their own mother 😭 at 5 weeks old they have to be separated from the parent of the opposite sex because they will breed with them unfortunately. Litter boxes are completely optional, rats are pretty easy to litter train, you just gotta move their poops to the litter and they start to learn that’s where they’re supposed to go!

@@reeselli3749 Oh, i owned a lot of rats, but here in this house there is an office downstairs and they dont wanna risk the rat smell (I loved it. The rats where always bamboozled when grabbed them and gave them a looong sniff and then blowing raspberries on their tummies :))
Your arlo sounds just like my ruby. She is so crazy and always escapes! We should of named her mischeif! My boy tulley is a lazy ham and loves to cuddle and also dribbles alot of pee on anything. Funny story he actually has 2 penises! We took him to the vet bc we thought he was sick or something wrong lol. Our boy bug is scared of evertone but me and my daughter and lives on the side of the other two cages lol bc he hates going in. Hes happy though lol and still goes in sometimes. Then we have a little girl named baby. Shes so tiny and sleepy and not vert active. Shes like around 6-8weeks. Our others are 3-4months.. All are feeders aswell. I cant believe how much i love them. We also have 2 mice. Our birds are obsessed with watching them lol. My dogs let then crawl all over them lol. My guinea pig dont mind them and well my cats will never meet them lol.

Yay! More rat content. I now have 7 rats. I just picked 4 babies today to add to the 3 I had already. I love rats.
