I just had my transmission rebuilt 5 warranty claims in the past year its been a nightmare. today I noticed my front u joint leaking atf soil just going to change slip yoke, trans shaft seal and joints what type of grease should I put inside the caps of the u joints and what kind of lube did you put on the slip yoke and is it on the outer edge that slides or the front. thank you
You only need to lube the spines of the slip yoke. GM has a special part number for that grease, but we used Mystik (a red sticky grease in a tube, its available on amazon). The grease is to prevent the slip yoke from grabbing the transmission output shaft. Id recomend replacing the universal joint while you are there. Ive never greased ujoint cups, so im not sure on what type. Thanks for watching!
Hello sir, i have a 2007 chevy avalanche 2wd 5.3 engine I found out that its leaking from that part call slip yoke. Can u help find the right slip yoke for this truck please
I usually use the vin number to correctly match parts. I usually use dealership parts for stuff like this also. But more importantly, check your slip yoke, see if it has a hole in the back, where in the video you see a cap in the one i installed. About the year and model you are talking about may have a relief hole. If it does, replacing the slip yoke wont fix the leak. Its a seal internal to the transmission tailshaft. Check for the hole 1st. Thanks for watching!
@@rustedhorsepower5132 thank you for your response the yoke that my truck has does have small hole and i believe thats where its leaking oil... So u said its a internal seal inside the transmission ?l? Can you please tell me like where inside the transmission, and the name of the seal so i can ask the dealer for it..
@@Carlos-Henriquez ok, you're lucky, you don't have to replace the slip yoke. 1st make sure your transmission isn't overfill. Then There's 2 ways to fix this. The old school way is clean the hole as best you can with a wire brush and brake cleaner, then j.b. weld it shut. I don't like that way, but it's an option. The other way, you have to support the rear transmission off the mount, remove the driveshaft, remove the mount and the tail housing. Inside on the output shaft you'll find a little can, with a seal (SLIP YOKE SEAL) in it. that's it. Generally I replace 3 seals in this fix. The SLIP YOKE SEAL, the EXTENSION HOUSING SEAL, and the TRANSMISSION OUTPUT SEAL. I hope this helps, if you still need more help find me on Facebook.

I have question to you or anyone when replace that front u jonts and slip yoke does it matter which way go back on . I chanche my u jonts i did make marks the way it was assembled but on the installation my marks some how erased so i had no other choice to assemble back together some way?? So now my drive shaft could be out of balance???
@@jorgeluissalazar7702 yes, they should be assembled the way it came off,...but, 1)if you replaced the slip yoke, its a totally different unit, so balance shouldnt be an issue. 2) assemble it, and if its off balance, you'll know. Its likely ok. Thanks for watching!
I had the same issue on my 2016 2wd Silverado replaced the slip yoke that had a vent hole with I guess the same yoke with a vent hole I’ve heard multiple people on Chevy sites say just to seal with it easy fix
You can, but there is a "slip yoke seal" within the trans. If it came with a vent hole, so proper fix is to remove drive shift and tail housing, then reach in with a pick to dig the seal out of the salt shaker sized collar. If you look for an exploded view of the trans. With the output shaft you should see it. What trans is it 4l60e? Thanks for watching

@@eugeniorico-chavez1006 do you mean the balance weight thats welded on? If thats what you mean, yes you need it, especially for high speed driving.
