Farmers and country folk always had a stockpile as we call it now. It was common sense because you never knew if the crops would fail. My grandparents and great grandparent had root cellars, spring houses and lots of canned foods. I think a three to six month supply is a good idea if you have the room.

This makes a lot of sense Tessie. When doing a project you need to do just the project, not 50 projects. It's overwhelming and it loses it's flavor of fun and joy in doing the project. I use to think that canning was so much work, but when I watched you can smaller amounts it took a whole new meaning to canning for me. Smaller quantities for me are much more doable when canning.

So true you don't have to go big or go home.
I fell into the prep for the worst mentality during C. Being stuck in our home for months, with constant numbers of people who passed every night on the news, put us over the edge. Then came my heart event, and pretty much everything we bought, i can't eat, and my husband doesn't care for a lot of the foods i do. Spent a lot of time giving it away.
“Go big or go home!” Lol .. I say this to my daughter-in-law and she rolls her eyes that lets me know I need to tone it down on my canning😂😂😂😂

The same think happened to me, Tessie. My four went bad vacuum sealed in mylar bags.
I really wonder about what peppers in the hurricanes felt as all their preps were washed away along with their homes :(

I completely stocked my upright freezer. I DON'T COOK . So the food is just sitting in there getting old. Ugh
I found somethings don't last long past the best by date. One being sweetened condensed milk.

I am eating through my food stores right now. We are planning to move across the country late next year. I would rather move empty canning jars than full ones.
Oh how I wish my sister would prep something, anything. She thinks we are over cautious.
I store non instant powdered milk it keeps twenty five plus years can't be bought at a grocery store it looks like powder the instant milk looks like little clumps
Beans and rice are boring. But if you add broth and seasoning to it and add tomatoes it makes it much better tasting. But I we’ll eat beans and rice every single day if had too. I like beans and rice . But yes the same food gets old.
Tessie I picked apples now in working through the apples. Apple pie filled ng apple sauce, apple juice, and for today apple crisp ❤🙏
Maybe u could mix just a little of it in with your recipe each time u cook and eventually use it up

Sorry to leave another comment. I’m not worried about the world ending. That’s just ridiculous. I’m just a little concerned about election whoever wins or people gonna go goofy and I have to shut the store off for a few days that’s it and I think I can survive for a few days on the food I got And yes, Tessie stop watching the damn news. Tell your husband you don’t want to hear about it because that’s what the news does is just scare you. That’s their job the more they can make it exciting that’s their job so tell him I don’t care I don’t wanna hear about itnow if the cows go on strike, he can tell you
