Nicely done. Trying to get out of the Gulf can be tough. The sea state is so often rolly and rough with rapidly changing wind. I'm currently sitting at anchor in Apalachicola waiting for a buddy boat to catch up before crossing to Tampa.
I’m still in the wishing stage... I’ve spent a lot of time in the Apalachicola/PSJ area though and love it. I’m actively working towards getting a boat but realistically it’s a few years away for me right now.
I live in St. Pete area. Some of the panhandle can be called an armpit, especially the area that Matt Gaetz represents. But be aware the Egmont Key is not pronounced "edge" mont, but "egg" mont.
Great trip man! Happy to see it done! Sailing up to my hometown in Panama City has long been on our bucket list. We live in downtown St Pete where we have our Catalina 28 tied up. Weve been sailing all over Boca Ciega and Tampa Bay and Seafood Shack next to Cortez Bridge is one of our overnight absolute favs! Hopefully Brian is still working there, he was very helpful when we docked in crazy winds/current. If yall are still there, I strongly recommend Cortez Cafe down the road, 10 min walk....amazing biscuits and gravy and a good down home feel. Looking forward to your next vid! Safe Travels
Thanks. Yes a great area to cruise. Don’t think I can do a video for the ICW section because my phone went in the water and I lost a bunch of videos. Next step is crossing Okeechobee.
Hope you went to the Tide Table Restaurant across the street. You were actually south of Tampa Bay in Cortez . Manatee County. St. Pete would have been more fun.
Hey there. I enjoyed this video and watched your previous ones as well... I'm assuming you figured out your power issue (topping out at1900 rpm's) from last year?
Route planning to me always meant trying very hard to not have my wife think she was going to die. But to each his own. I always go into the intracoastal at Mexico Beach and then spend a few days at Apalachicola. Then make the overnight to Dunedin where we anchor. Then down the intracoastal to John's pass and out to the Keys. No distance is saved by going around the cape in my opinion since it is an area of strong currents and shifting sand bars.
I've done it 5 times like that, it's much easier and safe. You sail the entire time as opposed to motoring in your sailboat. Ya, no distance is saved, but who cares. I can get there in 48 hours and I prefer to sail my sailboat. The ICW is awful in a sailboat.
Thanks for the video. I'm happy I found you. One comment though, as a lifelong resident of Tampa, you didn't come here. Technically you just touched the southern end of Tampa Bay, which is a very long sail to Tampa. You would have enjoyed a nights stay at St. Petersburg Municipal Marina right downtown though, a wonderful place. Consider that for next time? Thanks again for the videos.
Thats not a Gulf crossing. Just the Florida bend. And at Waypoint 12 you sailed right through the middle of the Elgin Air Force Base Restricted Zone at Cape San Blas. You have no clue what you're doing and much to learn.
keep adding content. Good job and stay safe.
.
Thanks
Nicely done, thank you.
Appreciate it.

Nice place to be sitting at anchor… if you get ashore, check out Owl Cafe and the chocolate shop nearby.
Been to both already. lol.
We have already left but thanks for the advice. @@southernpaths2986
Nice, are you on a sailboat?

We prefer to call our area the Big Bend thank you. ❤
LOL, noted.

We went all the way up to clearwater and are now down in Tarpon Point. Another video to come before we cross the cut to the east coast.

I actually didn’t do anything and it started to work again. So I’m not actually sure what was wrong.

😂
That would be the Choc-taw-hatchee not Choc-ta-whatchee. 😊
Ya, I mess that up often. 😢
Psst... Sailing from Destin to Tampa isn't "across the gulf" 😂
That’s what everyone calls it??? 😂
Um, yes it is. What do you know?

That’s the line I plotted on Navionics, not the route in which we sailed. 5th time sailing to Tampa from Destin. Very familiar with the AF. 😂
