Missed a big point in that Spartans were overall misunderstood in general. They never took off their armor(and when they did, they were sickly pale), they did inhuman feats of speed and strength, were absolutely massive(height and weight), were raised with military training which lead to them talking "like robots" or not much at all, could stand unnaturally still, and most of the details of what they went through or even the fact that they started as children were hidden from most people. They were overall incomprehensible to anyone without most of the facts. ODST training was incredibly difficult and the idea that there was something above them was difficult to mentally grasp.

@@toxicmasculinity7870 Not necessarily a bad thing. If it affects games, then yeah it’s bad. Doesn’t mean trying to give credit to books and stuff is bad - especially with everything to do with Reach. I think it’s good they found a middle ground between the two, to make them both valid.
John 117 absolutely misunderstood the situation that was at hand. This story comes from the book The Fall of Reach. Yes, it happens after an augmentation and John feels off because of his enhanced strength. He takes the pin and uses calculus to determine the weight divided by height and the pull of gravity to realize that the ship's gravitational rotation wasn't off, his body was. When the ODSTs entered and almost got injured by the unsecured weight pin, John tries to diffuse the situation politely. The ODSTs were the aggressors. When their CO told them to get into the ring, it was only then that John snapped into purpose because he was given orders to engage. After the devastating outcome, John approaches Chief Mendez confused at why he was seemingly in trouble. He was emotionally distraught because all he did was what he had been rigorously trained for since early ages of childhood; follow orders. That's when Chief Mendez gives the valuable wisdom that sometimes the orders aren't going to be cut and dry, black and white. Sometimes they'll be confusing or even conflicting, but they are orders nonetheless. The ODSTs were in the wrong by trying to engage John before a CO told them to resolve it in the ring. There is zero theory against John within the source material regarding this encounter because he lacked comprehensible knowledge of how extensive the augmentation was for his body and mind. This is a huge turning point mentally and emotionally for John's military career in that particular chapter.
Man they do this type of shit for real. I'm sure the powers that be wanted to see what John could really do. they had a eye on him since the beginning you know. they groomed him to be exactly what he turned out to be the master chief.

"Rivalry" is too strong a word for the fact that most Spartan-II's were utterly unaware of why the regulars were so angry at them while they were there to slap ass and nothing else. Spartan-III's had little contact with soldier's outside their units and Spartan-IV's are taken from exceptional soldiery to be augmented and fitted with state of the art mjolnir armor, so the IV's would probably have some former ODST's thrown in there and would probably have more amicable relations with the regular human soldiers.

I really liked the “The babysitter” episode of Halo legends. The ODST’s hated the Spartan until she sacrificed herself in the end to save them. Making them realize that Spartan’s were soldiers willing to fight for others just like them.
The span of time between John killing those ODSTs and the Spartan IV program taking in ODSTs as volunteers is double what you've probably been alive. They did make up their minds.

The UNSC's medical tech really is spotty and you can see from the first novel _Fall of Reach_ to Halo Reach and the media during and post Halo 3, you really see the further spotification of medical technology over the 20 years of the franchise once 343 comes into play and magic hands the tech...

Second, he was out numbered. You gottahit hard and fast and take as many out of the fight as fast as you can before they can overwhelm you. John doesn't know how strong he is at that point. Well, just like any war, you need to make sure there is something left over when the war actually ends. Not much point in winning if you end up collapsing afterwards anyway.
The Spartan-IIs didn't get shields at first. They fought the Insurrectionists before the Covenant attacked. Many of them died before shields were reverse engineered. As a veteran thank you for pointing out that in a fight we're fighting for each other. And the anger is most certainly misdirected at the Spartans. It would take a complete douchebag to tell hardened warriors because yes the ODST is the definition of a warrior to fight a child. It would take a bigger douchebag to fight a child, I don't pity those men. Nor do I pity the ODST who fell when they attacked Master Chief, they could have said no and disobeyed orders that were clearly a threat to humanity, instead they attacked.
Basically John shouldn't have used lethal force, granted he did not know his strength, but he should have incapacitated them, like breaking arms and legs, not spines and skulls
But if he didn’t know how strong he was how can he be blamed for anything that happened? Like if he was just listening to what was ordered by adults and high ranked people than it’s not his fault they tried to fight him with his new augments that he doesn’t know what that means for himself
It just seems weird putting blame on a young boy with fresh augments who doesn’t know how or what he can do especially when he was given orders from a high ranking person to fight these grown men for no reason.
We need a halo game where you play as a odst again, and even a halo game where you play as a marine, covenant, and insurectioness, shit even put the flood in there i wanna play as the flood.
It would open up so many possibilities to have more games where you play as Marines or ODSTs hell maybe even pilots. Every mission you just around carrying troops, Spartans, and equipment across the battlefields.
Imagine a “open world” type game, where you can choose which path you want to take as a member of the UNSC, depending on the choices you make in training, or early life, etc. so you could be a Spartan, or any of the other sides of the UNSC. An idea I had was the first half of the game taking place during the human covenant war, then maybe become a defector, and then be up against ONI, though you’d likely die at their hands at the end of the game. Just my thoughts.
7:18 "And the final one, he fractured his spine, paralyzing him for life." - This is why I have a frustrating disrespect for 343 and Halo writers. 500years in the future, they can do all those genetic and neuro-synaptic enhancements, literal neural interfaces, which is literally grafting synapses together, to hundreds of fodder units in the Spartan III's, but they can't even do a basic spinal graft to repair something as simple as a fractured spine? And don't give me the "it's too expensive" BS. WE can almost do that NOW, we'll be able to regrown spinal tissue in the next 20years. Let alone 500years from now, in the Special Forces where all the money goes. This is just bad sci-fi writers.
I love the ODST or "Hell Jumpers" as their skills on the battlefield are incredible. However, Spartans are legendary and in a class of their own. They can do what entire platoons of ODST cannot. Furthermore, without the Spartans ability to hold the line and win battles decisively...the ODST would have been wiped out along with all of humanity. I believe the Spartans deserve the superstar status they have earned through blood, sweat, and tears as the true deciding factor in destroying our enemies. That doesn't mean the Hell Jumpers or any other Marine doesn't deserve to be honored for their incredible bravery but we have to give credit where credit is due. Hopefully, we see an end to the needless feud between the ODST and Spartans. I don't think ODST has been made obsolete by the Spartan program. No more than the Navy Seals have made the Green Berets obsolete. They all have their roles and ODST far, far, far outnumber the Spartans.
Well, according to Installation00 and many other people in the comments, fuck those guys. Every time you saw a UNSC ship blow up, there were 1000s of noncombatants dying in each one, so I guess doublefuck those guys.

It’s like the military in the MCU. Youre still protecting your country but someone like captain America shows up and you become a side character in your own life
I feel like the blame on Spartans is fully misplaced. All the grievances ODST's have with Spartans are not the fault of the Spartans, but was conducted by ONI and their propaganda.
Great point, the reality is that the hatred for Spartans is really misguided outrage with their leadership. Although if it ever got out that leadership purposely killed ODST’s for the sake of an experiment the outrage among the UNSC ranks would be immense. It’s a sad reality, but ONI is highly unethical. Unfortunately the covenant doesn’t have the word ethics in their vocabulary, so there’s that.
17:10 That's really hard to believe. A lot of those injuries are pretty life-threatening without immediate medial treatment. Getting shot in the legs, collapsed lungs, broken skulls from getting punched in the head???
Kinda feels similar. I was a Paratrooper. Friend was a Recon Marine. Each of us were very proud of our training and how we performed when compared to regular line units that we may train or be around. But because neither of us were part of SOCOM (Green Berets, Rangers, Seals, Raiders, etc.) we never actually DID anything that regular line infantry didn't do. So we kinda despise SOCOM. Not the troops in it, but that we "specialized" units are now irrelevant.
If you were irrelevant the division would not exist. That said cross training from SOCOM, was not aware it involved many branches. To me seems like double dipping, but it was not all of them and not many in total.
Force recon IS SOCOM operationally available and can be pulled under SOCOM in certain circumstances! Army rangers are the same! In fact, a few "units" are SOCOM compatible when the need arises for more man power, security and etc. they are just not "full-time" operators. Compare to the coast guard being under homeland security until the need arises and then the U.S. Navy takes control and for all intents and purposes they are a part of the U.S. Navy in its warfare activities.
I think this resentment by ODSTs and a lot of planetary PDF forces and UNSC Marines and Soldiers is the reason a lot of them signed up to the Spartan IV programme. Paying a large homage to the phrase; _If you can't beat 'em, join 'em_
With the increasing ease, affordability and effectiveness of Spartans, ODSTs are being phased out. Not to mention the idea they might have that Spartans aren't "human".
Every Ancient Human facing the Forerunners was augmented beyond Modern Human Spartans, with much higher grade exo-armor and way more advanced AI helping each one.
Meeeh. Even a thousand spartans doesnt mean diddly for the hundreds of hundreds of hundreds of hundreds of thousands of ODSTs. There are units of ODSTs per colonized continent, per planet, and probably larger space stations.

There special until there enemies have a fucking anti air gun pointed at them.
It depends, the Seals tend to be more arrogant than the others because of their "visibility" in the media via movies and the like, leading to a "movie star" mentality disproportionately among their ranks. Whereas with groups like Force Recon and the Green Berets, because of the quiet nature of their work, you're more likely to see a sort of quiet confidence with them when around others. Just a quick thing about John; if you're fighting against the odds, as in a stronger opponent, more opponents or in that case both. Your mind goes to a more brutal place, you're not thinking about just disabling the opponents you're thinking about making it out alive. This plus as you said he probably wasn't aware of how strong he really was, he was still learning that gravity didn't effect him the same so I can totally understand him not being held accountable for his actions, plus he was devastated to learn he killed allies. My Theory: They are jealous that Spartans take all the credit.
That they do. Especially since the Spartan program did in fact take funding from other programs and branches, including the ODST’s and S-3, as the cost of one set of mjolnir armor alone cost as much as a brand new Halberd class destroyer.
They aren't exactly going on the news and talking about their accomplishments they are given credit for the things they accomplish nothing is taken but I see your point
@@Prophet1 well yeh jealousy is understandable but hatred is not at least not anymore since they can all try to be a spartan now. That doesn't really change anything since the reputation of spartans began with the 2s and those deaths will still be overlooked but if that makes a soldier fell such a way as to hate then what purpose did they join the ranks?
Just like how clones were pissed that Jedi took all the credit. The clones would sacrifice themselves for the mission, only for the Jedi to be praised as the heros. ODSTs seem to fall into that same category. The best of the best, willing to give it all for the mission. But they hardly got any recognition. Obviously the literal super soldier will outperform normal humans and steal the spotlight. I can't blame the ODSTs at all for having a resentment towards Spartans.

"There were other ways John could have neutralized the threat" Ummm two things. First, you said it yourself. He wasn't used to how strong and fast he was post augmentation. Second, he was out numbered. You gottahit hard and fast and take as many out of the fight as fast as you can before they can overwhelm you. John doesn't know how strong he is at that point. The whole thing is in no way John's fault. He was just defending himself. He wasn't trying to kill any of them. He was probably just trying to knock them out, but ya know, first fight pumped on super soldier juice and you're not used to it and you're reacting off instinct and military training that's been drilled into your head... Oh and they're ODSTs. You really think they're going to stop fighting just cuz of a broken arm? Fuck no.
I also had a serious problem with his assessment here. The only neutralized threat is a dead threat. He, on his own, was attacked by a group. The arrogant shits got what they deserved. None of the responsibility for the outcome of that was John's.

Halsey flash cloned new organs before performing surgery on several Spartan 2s. So no, it is not cringe to think that healing paralysis is within their reach. Nor is it cringe to think that this technology is not available to the public as it is shown many UNSC citizens are completely unaware of the existence of flash cloning. ONI having used this tech to replace the young Spartan 2s with clones that would die soon after and thus covering up their kidnappings, so... also kinda have to mention how much better life expectancy is, with Sergeant Johnson being in his 70s but is still fit for active duty military service and looks at least three decades younger than his actual age.

I love how humanity is facing extinction but the UNSC can’t afford to give every soldier shielding and advanced armor cause you know, you need to save money in the end of times.
They put majority of their eggs in the Infinity as it was basically the Government in exile vessel.
Well, just like any war, you need to make sure there is something left over when the war actually ends. Not much point in winning if you end up collapsing afterwards anyway.
I think it was less actual cash and more material and. Mark 5 wasn't made until 51 or 52. Not counting augments and the like
MJOLNIR armor was literally powered by a nuclear power cell; that's part of the reason why it was so expensive to make.
The Spartan-IIs didn't get shields at first. They fought the Insurrectionists before the Covenant attacked. Many of them died before shields were reverse engineered. The UNSC can't afford to give every soldier a shield much the same way they can't afford to give every soldier a tank. You can't just go into a debt of manhours and natural resources, it's not like engineers eat money and shit out bleeding edge technology.

Why we need a game from the Marines or soldiers perspective with band of brother themes of war.
I still kinda confused as to how John has any blame for the ODST situation in the gym
Yeah, John basically underestimated the new strength he had and thus used disproportionate force on the ODSTs. That's why it was "his fault".
It just seems weird putting blame on a young boy with fresh augments who doesn’t know how or what he can do especially when he was given orders from a high ranking person to fight these grown men for no reason.
@@thearchives1094 he didn't do it on purpose, he fought the way he knew, he couldn't just assume that a punch from him would kill

Yes, please that would be so cool.

J117: Our duty as soldiers is to protect humanity, whatever the cost.
ODST: Soldiers are still human.
ONI: Spartans aren't human, they are weapons.
So with john beating up the odst. It is on the odst that went to lift the weights for not checking the equipment first.
So, what about regular marines? They died A LOT, right?
Well, according to Installation00 and many other people in the comments, fuck those guys. Every time you saw a UNSC ship blow up, there were 1000s of noncombatants dying in each one, so I guess doublefuck those guys.

Getting shot in the legs not so much. Miss the femoral and you can tourniquet above the wound and you'll be fine for atleast an hour or two
Kinda feels similar.

With the increasing ease, affordability and effectiveness of Spartans, ODSTs are being phased out.
Not to mention the idea they might have that Spartans aren't "human".
I thought that, the plan was to slowly transition to a full spartan army.
