The story of Nii Lamptey shouldn't be compared to a Greek Tragedy, but instead to the story of Hercules. He never had a good father in his life, they were both awful to him. he was held hostage by his country and forced to play so much at such a young age, he was manipulated by his agent, tragically lost 2 children, was betrayed and left by his wife, and yet he holds his head high. he owns a school in Accra, teaching children to read and write when he never could at that age, he teaches football at an academy, he got married again and had two more children. the man is of steel, a survivor of what life has thrown at him and a man who lives to learn from his own tragedies, not someone who could ever be consigned to history just by what happened to him but how he stood tall against it.

@@Omnipotentmonkey whilst heracles is the namesake of a greek tragedy written by euripides, said tragedy concerns the story in which he is driven mad and slays those around him, causing him to take on the 12 labours in penance. he therefore is the protaganist of a tragedy, but when placed in the context of his whole mythology, including the completion of the 12 labours themselves, it's more comparable to an epic in my eyes

@@hugoumero9723 I mean you never know. As I imagine him his player profile was sort of Diego Costa or Luis Suarez but with much more speed. And you'd expect someone like him to be actually brilliant for Atletico then since they were basically limited to counter attacks back then. If you think about it it's even weirder that Griezmann flourished in that system since he was never any type of physical player. He is more of a Joao Felix, technically gifted and rather quick, hence why I expected Felix to be brillliant for Atletico. They are a mystery box. You never know how things will turn out, the only thing you can be sure about is that they're going to be horrific to play against

You can argue Denílson's move to Betis was bad and weird and all sorts of things, but it didn't ruined his career. He was a staple at the Brazilian NT, earning 61 caps. In 2001, he was the best player in Brazil's squad at Copa America. In 2002, he played five out of the seven games in the WC, in which he was considered by media as the 12th player of the team. He may not have fulfilled all his potential in his career, but it wasn't ruined either.

14:29 Atletico actually still played in the Vicente Calderon back then. If you take a look at Atleticos achievements over the last years you'd actually see that the team has seen a decline ever since leaving their old stadium which has seen them in brilliant shape in order to not only win several LaLiga titles but also dominate (as far as you could say that with Atletico) the likes of a title holding Barcelona in the CL with MSN in their front line or Bayern Munich in their final years with Pep on the sideline

A somewhat tragic thing about Denilson's carreer is that his agent was aparently a really shaddy dude. Denilson was actually going to Real Madrid, or was told so, he jokes sometimes: "I went to sleep on Real Madrid and woke up on Real Betis" because he was told about it on the day after. Later he also found out that his agent sole from him for years.

Since his move from Liverpool he has won the UCL, Bundesliga, La Liga 2x, Copa Del Rey 2x, DFB Pokal and the Spanish Super Cup as well as performing well enough at FC Bayern to make it to the Copa America in 2019 where he won it. Liverpool also excelled massively by signing VVD and Alisson with the Coutinho money. Which lead them to win the trophies Kloop dreamed of. So all in all it worked out well for both parties.

Throwing Shoya Nakajima out there. Had a great loan period with Portimonense from FC Tokyo then signed for the Portuguese club on a permanent deal. Got into the Japan National Team, continued his fine form for a low Portuguese team then was sold to the Middle East team Al-Duhail SC for £32m while he was linked to Wolves. He didnt play too much, got sold to Porto for £10m, then loaned to another Middle Eastern club Al-Ain FC. Loaned to Portimonesnse where he got some game time but didnt relive the same form he found before.
Still contracted to Porto, not featured in pre season, not on the club website, no info on him at all and he's still 27. He was one of the brightest prospects for Japan, the move to the middle east inflated his wages and transfer value which has ruined his career. There's still time to come back, but needs a permanent home.

I remember when the Primera Division 1998/99 season started the TV commenters would count Denilson's minutes without goals, always with the mandatory "the most expensive player in the world" attached... He was a solid player, but there was already too much hype to live up to the expectations. Kezman was simply the first in the long line of players in the Abramovich era for whom the Chelsea squad was too stacked. He was the third or even fourth choice behind Drogba, Gudjonson and Mutu (plus Robben, Duff and Cole as wingers), and Mourinho's system only allowed for one genuine striker.

Funny to watch it several days after Arda Turan retired... up until now I had no idea he still played in Turkey, though.
Jackson Martinez didn't spend a day at Wanda Metropolitano as there was no Wanda Metropolitano yet, you know. : )
I must admit I don't remember Neil Franklin, although I do remember Charlie Mitten from Manchester United going the same way.

I think Affelay's transfer to Olympiacos ruined his carreer in a more literal sense. They wouldnt let him get an operation that eventually resulted in him not being able to play anymore and retiring at a young age if im not mistaken.

a documentary on the afc Wimbledon on the nine promotions in eleven years, how they’re a fan own club and how they have a stadium in plough lane now.
The story of they lost the club, how the F A allowed that and won’t allow that anymore.
How they were very close to moving to ireland
How they went up the English football leagues.
