Dishonourable mention for Rai Vloet - Dutch striker who during his time at Heracles Almelo killed a 4 year old boy in a drunk driving incident. He was driving 203 km/h, lied to his club about the conditions surrounding the incident and has since taken refuge at FK Ural.

It's crazy how footballers (and other rich people) can literally get away with killing someone (or worse) just by flopping some money around. Especially the Marcos Alonso case is just insane, no prison sentence at all just because he had money. If he was an average person he'd be in prison for quite some time.

I remember the McCormick one very well. As a father of two young boys, it would sicken me to see he got off so lightly and was given a chance to return to Plymouth. Our justice system generally lets people off lightly but you can't help think that footballers and generally wealthy or powerful people to get much lighter punishments.

It can sometimes go the other way, especially leading up to Christmas. Sports stars can get harsher punishments to send out a message. As a first offence it was surprising that he got a four month prison sentence considering there was nobody injured but the authorities needed a poster boy to highlight their anti drink driving campaign.

A recent incident that is similar is with a Mexican Youth player that had a high potential to be world class.
Joao Maleck killed a newlywed couple (1 day as a married couple) while under the influence in 2019. He only served a bit of jail time. He was playing in Spain (Sevilla) at the time of the incident and now is playing in a lower division in Mexico.
Another incident was Charlie Davies in 2009. He missed out on the 2010 World Cup. Although he was not driving, he broke curfew as the USMNT was getting ready to play Costa Rica in a WCQ in Washington DC and the SUV he was in, lost control and crashed. One of the passengers passed away. He suffered some injuries that took some time to heal up. He was playing in France at the time (Sochaux) and was not cleared by the club when the World Cup came around.

Johnny Herrera, winner of the Sudamericana and Copa América, former Chilean International, and a club legend for a club I support, was a renowned goalkeeper.
He was also the killer of a young woman in a traffic accident produced by his drunk driving in 2009. He settled off court for just 25 thousand dollars.
He was caught drunk driving again in 2012, and the case was re opened, and he was found guilty and charged with 5 weeks of prison and lost his licence to drive for two years. That's all.
His career was largely unaffected, and he continued to play until recently, when he retired and became a pundit.
