It was because of you that I got my SB lathe apart, cleaned, painted and all back together. No one else has done better videos.

OMG does this bring back some memories. A couple of years ago, I purchased an identical lathe off Craigslist. It became a labor of love. I was 77 years old at the time, and I am US Army retired 20 years of service and then 15 more years in law enforcement until an accident retired me out. So, completely retired with lots of time to do what I want. I restored 11 Fender and Les Paul guitars, and turned hundreds of pens on my wood turning lathe. This SB lathe was the biggest challenge at the time, but it all turned out great. The Grim Reaper kept knocking at my door and after several medical issues, I am back at it. Lucky for me I had taken out a warranty on my life, then enrolled in a extended warranty, but I think I may have used up most of that. My wife does not find that the least bit amusing, but she supports me at every project and made me promise to be around for 20 more years. This lathe has turned into a money pit, like the boat I bought years ago. I remember taking my lathe apart and putting each and every small part in zip lock bags and marking them. That sure helped when putting it back together. I painted my lathe gray, and used the paint code provided by The Basement shop guy. I have seen a whole rainbow of colors out there, so each to his own. I have upgraded to the QCTP "quick change tool post" plus just about every gadget advertised by those guys on UA-cam . Ebay loves to see me log on. It's fun watching you take your lathe apart, clean it spotless and paint it prior to reassemble. Looking forward to the rest of this great project. You sure a lot more patient than me. No more coffee for me when working on a project. My dog knows when to go back into the house when I have been drinking coffee. :-) . Anyway enough of me, best of luck with your lathe, looks great so far. Ken...Marina, CA

I was told never ever use grease on a spindle as it can slow down the flow of oil

You got hat in by tapping it in with a rubberized dead blow hammer! Lol admit it!

Hey, I just got a South Bend 13 that I'd like to tear down and clean up. You mentioned a book? What book explains these processes?
