Basically a bunch of people started to beat up officer west and his partner (the guy looking over him in disbelief) witnessed it and still neglected to save him, as later proven on his body cam. The point of the episode was that officer west wanted to change the face of the police community, and he nearly dies in doing so which leaves a good message for his character
^ the reason he wanted to enact change was because the officer standing over him was a racist cop who constantly used forced in unnecessary scenarios against innocent people
@@Knutterbife nah. Doug had turned his body cam off multiple times during situations he knew he wasn’t gonna do the right thing and Jackson was a quick learner. He knew it was only a matter of time before he’d be able to catch him
for the people who don’t understand the bodycam part, body worn cameras actually save footage from at least 30 seconds before they are activated, in order to get sort of a before picture of any actions taken. so that footage would have showed what officer stanton was doing prior to backup arriving, when he was standing behind a wall watching his partner nearly be beat to death
@@jaylin3321 I’ve never heard of a bodycam that saves fifteen minutes prior to being activated, but most I’ve seen save 30 sec or at the most a minute before
Context: This officer was FORCED to give up his gun and badge because allowed and watched his rookie officer get assaulted by four suspects because the rookie cop had been questioning how he handled citizens of color in the city of Los Angeles. The female cop that is with him is also a rookie and is his roommate. The other cop who is calling for an officer down is her Training Officer. The cop taking his gun and badge is the Sergeant Watch Commander. All three of these police officers were working with the rookie officer trying to get enough evidence to get Officer Doug Stanton fired for the way he treated suspects and citizens of color. A different division ended up letting Officer Stanton onto the force and he convinced everyone at that station that he was wrongfully terminated from the Mid-Wilshire station. The Sergeant Watch Commander reached out to the other Watch Commander and told her what happened and they showed the entire day shift Stanton's bodycam footage and got him fired for good.
it is. If I remember correctly, his new boss didn’t really want him either but her hands were tied by the higher ups. Showing the body cam footage to the other officers was a great move, they found out exactly who he was and he could no longer deny it.
Search for context, Doug Stanton is a racist cop. You have to watch the show to understand this but west, which is the guy who ended up getting beat up went undercover ass his partner to expose him as a racist police officer to get him fired. They ended up getting into a fight Weston Stanton and they took a car where they were chasing this SUV and it led them to this apartment complex west had walked into this group of guys and went to request back up and they started beating on him. Doug walked around the complex and watch from a far as west, was beaten to death, which is why officer West clicked his body cam, so it would roll back the last 15 minutes of recording they reviewed the footage and seen that Stanton had seen West being beaten, but did not walk over to help him because Stanton was mad that west had called him out on being racist later in the show, you will see Doug be permanently shamed by all police officers of the LAPD for being a racist cop and not helping his partner
In real life he just would’ve moved out of state and became a LEO in either Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Texas (pre uvalde), Mississippi, or Oklahoma. In the show, they say the cam records two minutes before it turns on. The shit cop turned his off so his partner leaned in to turn it on and save the last two minutes where he lets him get beat up
If you didn't know, the officer that was injured (Jackson West) that switched off that thing. That thing is a body camera. Essentially a camera that records your entire shift as an officer. Thats how Jackson caught his partner (Doug Stanton) in violation of LAPD code by abandoning his partner.
