I have a proud Sabian-signed endorser for nearly 30 years now. I played their cymbals previous to signing with them, but in 1994 we made it official. I’ve never seen better artist support from any company and they’ve stuck by me through major label deals, down to cruise ship/cover band work. Many companies drop an artist once his/her stock in the industry goes down and back up, but Sabian stood by me time and time again-thanks, Sabian! ❤️ The best cymbals in the worlds!
I bought Sabian sizzle hats 14” in 1987 I still use them along with a 20”Sabian HH ride that I still play, picked that one in 1990. I’ve noticed lately the cymbals aren’t what they used to be for me HHX are awful AAXexplosions are nice I have the nineteen and seventeen but I’d like to see them get back to what made them competitive great price we’re just as good as paiste ,Zildjain, meinyl on down the line,I can say I’ve never broken a Sabian and I’m a heavy handed drummer
For years I'd had the wrong idea about Sabian. I thought it was formed from a Zildjian family member that "went rogue" and thus it was basically like an internal family issue where the one member who went rogue was disowned and he made the competing company to try and beat the main Zildjian company in the market. This was such an insightful and well-done documentary, and I have a newfound respect for Sabian. Sabian is not a competitor of Zildjian, they are a branch of Zildjian that went in a different direction than what the main Zildjian company was doing. I am so grateful to Drumeo for putting this together. It gives me a new appreciation for Sabian, and now I look at them as an extension of Zildjian and not a direct competitor. They're like, co-existing in the marketplace and I think that's really cool.
The consistent production quality of Drumeo is insane. Not to mention the top notch content, the presentation is so professional! Trailblazing quality on the internet, tyvm!
I'm a truck driver from Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada. I've been to the Sabian factory several times to deliver and pick up products. I have had the tour and visited their museum, really nice people there. I've talked to some of the craftsmen who worked with, desinged, and hand made Neil Peart's cymbals. I have many pics on my phone of the Sabian factoy.
Wonderful job with this Drumeo, and thank you for doing it. This was so educational and really puts into perspective the price of these cymbals. They take so much time, and the family has put their whole heart and soul into them. What a fascinating and educational watch. Todd Sucherman is such a joy
For me, Sabian Cymbals sound special. I try to explain it. The mix of roughness, warmth an a exotic vibe is almost there. After a 20 year break as a drummer, i chose Sabian for this special Sound
Dude. This was awesome. The 18" and 19" AAXplosion crashes changed my life when they came out and are still some of my favorite crashes to this day. Sabian makes some killer cymbals. Would absolutely also watch an entire series of just Todd testing out r&d cymbals, his amusement at all of them and their sounds made me smile. Loved this. Can't wait to send it to my Dad.
Wow Jared! What an Amazing video you guys put together with Sabian! Todd Sucherman is such a great sport! He was like a kid in a candy store. Thank you for partnering up with Sabian to make this happen. These guys are amazing craftsmen who are so creative. It’s amazing the quality that goes into making these Incredible cymbals.
What a great production! Love the personal stories, love seeing the inner workings of how it’s done. I’ve played Zildjian’s for 50 years and have not had too much experience playing Sabina’s. Now I can’t wait to find a big drums with lots to try out. Props to the camera crew and sound guys… really made this a perfect.
sensational video! from following the entire process which was so cool to see, the relationship between Sabian and the community, the drumming colaboration with the first peoples, the craftsmen, staff and managment, and the history and story behind it all.. and to finish off with a drum display for the staff was super cool!!
How Drumeo doesn't have 10s of millions of subscribers, I simply don't understand. You folks have some of the best drum oriented content on the web. Thanks for this stuff!
Sabian used to produce the best ride cymbal that I've ever had the pleasure to play. The 20" El Sabor with a raw bell. I'm a die hard Zildjian guy and especially love their Dark K series. However... the ride in that series (or any other that I've played by Zildjian, Paiste, Meinl, etc...) Doesn't give you a washy large crash sound as well as an amazingly cutting/pingy bell. The El Sabor was a masterpiece, and I'm super glad to own it.
Fell in love with Sabian when I was 14 when I received a 19 inch AAX X-Plosion Crash for Christmas. I've gone through 3 of them so far. My favorite crash. I put it over top an A Custom any day. Thanks for this awesome in depth video of my favorite cymbal company!
For those who may be confused by how each of these processes relate with the four main lines at Sabian… The bumping process is how HH and HHX cymbals are formed into a preliminary shape. While it is a machine, a human is controlling where the bumps occur, keeping it by “hand.” That press they show in comparison is for the AA and AAX line. That is their Automatic Anvil, hence the name. Prior to placing the cymbal in the press, they are back formed. For hammering, HH uses a small peen hammer and HHX uses that 1/2” large peen hammering machine that is run by “hand.” HHX complex combines both types of hammering. The AA line goes through a fully automated hammering machine with a small peen hammer and the AAX goes through a fully automated 1/2” large peen hammering machine. Both were not shown in this video, but are shown in Sabian’s factory tour video on their channel. Most of what was shown in this video was for the HH and HHX lines that is the most labor intensive. A huge thanks to the craftsman and workers at Sabian!
This was so awesome to watch. I've been a big fan of Sabian for years. My first cymbal was a Sabian splash. Now I play a mix between AAX and HHX and I love comparing and mixing sounds together on my kit. Awesome video!!! Sabian. . Because Sound Matters!!!!!
While I play e-drums out of necessity (could never play acoustic where I live), I so want a Sabian cymbal in my drum room! They are works of art! Great job on the documentary, Drumeo.
My first set of cymbals I bought were SABIAN and man do I love them. Got myself a fat ride, crash, splash, hats and another crash! I've always felt a strong connection with the SABIAN cymbals and I don't know why. Not that Zildjian, paiste or meinl are bad or anything but my love is for SABIAN first. I share a room in a house now and haven't been playing drums for many many years. Seeing this documentary has me in tears, I just want to get my old kit back and have a jam. It's not all bad, I can pick up an Ekit for not too much. But really the acoustic is where it's at.
This was really good, and gave me a good feeling, reminding me why I love the drums so much. We can get into all the notes and practicing technique, but there is something special above all that about playing drums. Thanks to Todd for highlighting it. I'm still a Paiste loyalist, but have a better appreciation for Sabians. That's an impressive place. Great stuff, thanks.
When I was a kid I used to dream of becoming a cymbal maker at Sabian because I was so impressed with the details on the first cymbal I ever bought (21' HH Vintage Ride)
Watching this video brings so many happy feelings. Thanks sabian and mark love for all the amazing memories over the years and the opportunity to play your amazing cymbals. 😊
I still have a Sabian 22" AA Extra Heavy ride that I bought from the old Thoroughbred Music via mail order in 1991. To this day it's still the best ride cymbal I've ever owned or played.
It's really cool to see how much human input goes into the process of creating these cymbals, in drum shops each Cymbal I've seen looks so universally similar, they almost look machine made but there is so much craftsmanship it's really amazing to see!
Definitely a Sabian lover myself. Its the brand I started with over 15 years ago. Many price points and many cymbals and at my local music store they are discounted 🤟🏻everything from the cheaper side to the expensive side, marked down to create a great Price point.
What a beautiful journey to watch. I wish I had the opportunity to be in Jared's boots one day, even better with Meinl cymbals company (looking forward to seeing that documentary too). Thanks guys for doing this to us !!! Well done !!!

A very enjoyable doc, thanks for this.... I remember the days these guys started. I sold Sabian cymbals in a music store in Windsor, Ontario in the early 1980's... a tremendous product!! And, I still own and play three vintage Sabians!
I’m a die hard Sabian fan. The only aberration in my setup is a 22 inch Zildjian K ride and a 16 inch Wuhan China. I love my 16 inch Virgil Donati Saturation Crash. That is a work of art to hear and play.
Cool to hear man. It took me quite some years but now I'm the proud owner of the complete line of 4 Saturation crashes, 16" to 19" with those beautiful, vintage Signature logo's. I will never, ever sell 'em. They have so much personality and it's my personal tribute to Virgil Donati! 🤩👍
Absolutely felt the same. Hearing about the time it takes to hammer out a china really put the price into perspective. It never occurred to me how long creating that shape would take.
Very cool doc and BTS footage is always fun - and smart (drumeo) - killer playing and would love to make my own cymbal down there one day… proud to be part of the Sabian Fam - thx for all you do… Stay Rad ✌🏽
