One of my favorite crops to grow are onions! Their flavor is incredible and I was so happy to get to harvest and dry onions from my own garden this year! I hope you try drying your own onions to stock your own pantry! Home preservations is one of the most rewarding things you can do! I hope you enjoy watching me make dinner!

For two weeks solid I have made every effort possible to change our home from a commercialized home to place of homesteading. You are on in the background constantly and I've caught up on every one of your videos. You are now my mother. I'm old enough to be yours but whatever...THANK YOU! I can barely grown my own nails and now I'm planting, canning, buying chickens...you name it! You are a blessing!
Dehydrating onions, garlic, or spicy peppers also works well if you put the front of the dehydrator against the window screen so it vents to the outside.
Thanks so much, great idea 😊🙏🙏🙏
I learned more about onions in a minute and half of your video than I learned in 30+ years of life.
She is apples of gold in pitchers of silver. Her husband is soooo blessed.
A "thank you" for dinner and he cleans up after the meal. You two are what is called a "power couple"! Thank you both for being a light in this world.
Thank you!
I saw this video last yr and so i decided to try dehydrating some onions....omg!!!! The flavor of home dehydrated onions are amazing, nothing like what you get in the stores. I then decided to do the same with celery, eqyally amazing. I will never buy store bought again. I even gifted my adult daughter, and my 3 adult sons, including my mom a small half pint of each. Then i started getting request for more!! They absolutely love them. So everytime we make a trip back home to Tennessee (currently living in Maryland) I always take them all couple jars of each.
That's so sweet that he thanked yoh.
He is the best!
Genius statement. "I need to start taking things out of my freezer, so I can start putting things in. For variety, for storage quality, for consumption, (the best part!)
all great reasons that back up your statement.
I love that you mentioned how satisfying it is to perserve your own homegrown items. I also feel that way about my canned goods ad freezer meals. I love it.
Absolutely!!
That is a wonderful team work with the cooking and packing of lunches
Remember when you’re harvesting or dehydrating or canning you’re not looking at the price you’re looking at the quality how clean it is and you know what’s in it and how it’s been growing. You did a beautiful good job lady bug do a happy dance jig
Exactly!
And the skills that you learned which are priceless and will return your investment of time for the rest of your life.
Your videos are such a joy, I just wish we were best friends! Lol 😅
I just have been loving your videos especially love the fact that you give extra information about different stuff about the garlic and just give a little history or chemistry behind the food. Have you ever thought about reaching out to another UA-camr that is great at making ravioli or pasta and collaborate a UA-cam video together
Not only the satisfaction of growing, harvesting and putting it up, it doesn't contain the chemicals in store bought.
That garlic fact was completely fascinating! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you for watching!
I love to use my dehydrator. Yes... onions and garlic .... dehydrate OUTSIDE. You only forget that tip once. LOL
I love how Josh thanked you for cooking! And love your team work on the cooking and cleaning!
I just dehydrated garlic and onions with my Excalibur. Love that thing! I should buy another one. Worth the $. 👏 nothing like organic, clean chemical free garlic and onions!!!
That is a nice gift from hubby!
HOLY WOW! You are a very busy woman! I'm tired just watching you! Of course, in my younger days (many, many MANY moons ago) I had tons of energy, too. But now I barely have the energy to throw something in the microwave. 😭😟
I love your recipes! I have a dehydrator and I'm gonna try dehydrating onions and garlic. I make beef jerky with my dad's recipe and it's dee-licious!
what great teamwork!! that hubby packs lunches and cleans up is so nice...
I love dehydrating veges. This year, I have been taking them to the next level and powdering them. Two sink fulls of spinach turned into a 1/4 pint jar of spinach powder. One tablespoon of that would be like a large plateful of fresh spinach.
Wow amazing
I have teenage boys .. so sneaking in my super greens powder in dishes is a great way to get the nutrients in with no fuss
I've been doing the same with kale and beet leaves. It's amazing how much nutrition we can get in such small space.😊
Can you notice a flavor difference when you add the veggie powder to a dish?
@@biteyfloofmomma7279 I can't unless we really add a lot. You can see it though. I put it in my eggs in the morning and I can see it but not taste. You could really pour it on in things like beef stew, or crock pot stuff.
Wise women! Onions and garlic OUTSIDE!!!
You are inspiring! Thank you for sharing real-life experiences with us in a honest and humble way. Please keep making videos.
I’ve never seen anyone’s channel grow this fast!!! Huge congrats and keep up the good work!!
Is it just me or was the sound of the dried onions satisfying?
Broccoli has the same type of thing as the garlic where u cut it, the compounds marry and become so beneficial, but let it sit after cutting a bit before dumping Broccoli into any heat. I always cut Broccoli first and add it last.
I'm tired just watching ya girl! I love how you multitask though, it's a great way to approach how you plan, like baking more than one thing while the oven is on!
Glad you liked it!!
You should try freezing your parsley, dill, green onions. It will give you the fresh flavor some things just don't dry well and hold the flavor. Hope you like this tip.
Your video style is the best I've ever seen. You go right to it and not beat around the bush like so many do. I can't stop watching because it's so interesting and entertaining as well as educational. I'm an organizer But you are super at it and use common sense to do several projects at once consuming less energy, time and space. Love your home grown foods and delicious recipes. You are great and a Sweet heart.
Thank you! I’m so glad :)
I love watching you so much .. Your energy is inspiring :) and you are so right .. feeding my family with food I have grown myself is one of the most satisfying things ever !! .. much love from Australia
Great way to use all the not so great onions! I dehydrated and powdered a load of spring onions (green onions, I think you call them) that were going to seed after overwintering them, tops and bottoms all mixed in. I use it in everything! So useful to have.
Thanks for the tips!
You are my new mum pls adopt me. I will listen to you talk for HOURS.
Aw thank you!
I absolutely LOVE the scientific things you explained in this video!! (Onion growth and chenistry of garlic) Thank you!!
I love how your top matches the onions!!!!! 😉
I’m so happy I found your channel. I’ve been doing these things for almost 60 years and have still learned new information from you. Thank you for all the research you’ve done and shared with us. I think you’d love a vidalia onion chopper.
You're totally my garden to table food hero!!! I LOVE these videos - thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!
I love how your husband always thanks you for making the food! ❤️
He is so sweet
You are, by far, the most valuable UA-cam channel to which i am subscribed.
Holy Ish, Becky! I never understood all that about onions. You are the best teacher!
I’m glad it’s helpful
I found you a few days ago and I am LOVING your channel! I also followed on IG. These are goals that I want to achieve one day and I am learning so much from you. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing your homesteading with us on this platform!
Wow! Fun to watch how dedicated you are to being self sufficient. Thank you!
I learned about letting cut garlic sit fir a while after cutting years ago. And I'm thrilled you know it too and spread it on your channel
:)
Fantastic use of your time. I love that while you were using your oven you decided to bake two dinners. Great job.
The love that you put in any food creates so much more than anything that you can get with already preserved food. Also, who knows what else is in with those foods such as fillers. Good job Becky!!
Although it's totally normal, I can't help finding you so adorable whenever you say "My Husband" 😆😆😆 I don't know, there's just something very loving in your energy every time you say that and I have to say that I love it! 😆😆😆 Maybe I'm slightly living vicariously through you? I'm a few years shy of 50, never actually married (common-law partner only), so never got to legitimately call someone "my husband". Either way, I love it when you say it! 💜
Aw thank you
I second this. I am married, and I feel about my husband like you sound about yours, Becky. It's so sweet.
I really low how so self-sufficient you are one amazing lady. xxx
I’m so glad to hear your husband actually help you with dishes at list ! He is one lucky man who get to eat so good every day , I see so many ladies your age all they do is playing with their cell phone and the husband comes home with take out 😏and I don’t want to say anything about picking up things 😞
Thanks for all your teaching
Your Freezer meal techniques have been wonderful. I have used some of them and tailored them for my family.
Saturday was first time seeing you in my feed I clicked your video and been watch everyday after that, I think one of the reasons I like watching is because like shows on decorating and building a house its the before and after, your videos like those shows the in-betweens are edited so well is very satisfying from start to finish.
Wow thank you so much!
Have you ever thought of adding food grade Descant packets to your jars to keep them dry? I just started this homestead adventure, and I like the Wisedry brand because you can “recharge” them. Keeps your stuff DRY and not moldy.
Just discovered this and thought I’d share if it might help others. If you have a convection oven, you may have a dehydrator button on your oven!
My oven temp is 150F minimum but the dehydrator option allows me to go down to 100F and blows a fan. I literally just figured this out 30 minutes ago and I immediately harvested some kale and am now dehydrating for green powder! 😊
My oven does that too. It calls itself "proofing" temp for breads, but that will dry things out. I dry tomatoes at 120º frequently.
Thank you!
I have a convection oven. I dry stuff at 170, but didn’t know about a possible button! I’ll get the book out!! Thank you for mentioning this!
@@kimcritchfield5796 on my super-old Kitchen Aid oven, if you hold down the Bake button on the convection panel, it eventually switches to Dehydrate mode and you can set a low temperature.
Wow! I have an oven with so many option other than fan, grill and conventional oven. Is there a known logo for dehydration?
Slow down in talking! Some of us old folks are having a hard time keeping up 😊 you are such an inspiration
Your energy amazes me! But I remember having lots of energy when I was young.... I love watching your videos.
It's been a looooooooong time since I've had that kind of energy!
Yes I ADMIRE HER ENERGY!!!!
U are an inspiration to watch. Love the onion harvest n end product. Wud love to see u cook with them. Such an amazing young lady.
Thank you!
I love my food processor. One of the best kitchen tools I’ve ever bought.
I have the same dehydrator setup! Except that mine are much older. Lol. I found a 5 tray Excalibur at a garage sale. Then Grandma gave me her 9 tray Excalibur. I definitely make use of both, too. I love your parchment paper trick!
I absolutely ❤ your vids. I've been binge watching whilst deep cleaning. It's summer here I Australia and you're information has been so helpful. Thank you so very much. You have a beautiful soul.
I love your dog mine is a Australian shepherd Queensland heeler. White with tan patches and a little black by his ears. His tail wags up down back and forth and in circles. He does a rodeo dog move too like a rocking horse then he spins. Thank you for all you do. Hugs
Using food you grew and preserved is VERY satisfying 🙂
I dehydrated garlic last year for the first time, and I grind it fresh and it is SOOOOO much better than anything I've ever bought. I am looking forward to doing onions this year. Thank you for the inspiration! Also, I feel like I am hanging out in "my neighbor's kitchen" when I watch your videos, and that makes the videos even better. Thank you for sharing.
I’m late to game and being quite chicken about onions and garlic…even though I had a great harvest of both, I’m worried about the snake staying in the Sedona dehydrator that we purchased.
Did you have any regrets after dehydrating these pungent smelling items?
I’m so inspired by your videos, Becky. Thanks for the great ideas. On another note, I did my first ever canning today.... made green tomato salsa. Looking forward to many more videos with preservation ideas.
Thank you for sharing your video Becky until next time
I love all your videos i love gardening but i really never preserved or dehydrated anything . Now that I watch a your videos for the 1st time im looking forward to start doing that and also do meal prep too Thank you for motivating me
Great idea to dehydrate outside! I haven't dehydrated onion yet, but will definitely remember now when I do, so thank you!
I have the same dehydrator, it's amazing, so much better than the nesco I first bought, hated switching trays so often, it's worth the price to just walk away and not think about switching trays, added unnecessary stress. I live in Wisconsin, I did with onions like I do with other plants and started indoors 🤦next year I'm hoping to be less dumb, still new to this lol we have had a drought all summer here, lot of bugs, only the people with a ton of experience have had success in the conditions, oh well, next year will be better 🤞
Good luck!
I am all about garlic! I had no idea about Alison! So amazing!!!!! I love your videos, you are a natural! Can't wait for the next freezer meal ideas!
One more thing yes in growing your own food Amen . And you know what’s in your food … thank you ..
I love how well you educate us! If my oven is on, I always cook two meals. Your hubby is so sweet to help you! Thats what marriage is all about. A partnership in all ways❣ I LOVE SAGE & KALE!! Green powder please!?! Love to you & Josh & your families!
Aww, thanks, Rebecca! :)
Thank-you Becky for this great video...I am about to dehydrate a bunch of onions now. .Be well!
You inspire me! I am not a gardener at all, but I love the idea of buying our foods from local farms. I have been making a few of your recipes and tweaking them for our tastes. I can’t wait to make more. Keep those ideas and recipes coming!
I just got a dehydrator and can’t wait to do some of my own herbs. Thanks for the great video!
My husband bought me a 9 tray for my last birthday and I love it!!
Me too! Love that
I followed your recipes for homemade ranch and taco seasoning. So much better than store-bought and I know exactly what's in there. So so delicious!
IT IS isn't it? I've made a batch myself. So flavorful
Wonderful!
Always look forward to your videos
I appreciate that!
Ok, I am definitely going to have to get a dehydrator. I am going to look at thrift stores and Goodwill. I remember seeing one there before. Wish I bought it. An idea for anyone on a budget. Thank you for again fantastic video 🙂
Yas! I cook and boyfriend cleans, it's worked for us for almost two years!
We got a freeze dryer and love it. You have to try freeze drying your onions! Amazing.
Becky Great Job. If I may make a suggestion. With all your dried herbs and Vegetables how about making Mrs Dash. I use all the flavors in my cooking. I use very little Salt while cooking Table blend is my favorite.
Sage makes a wonderful healing tea with lemon and ginger. Great for summer/winter colds. Definitely breaks up that mucous.
Gal, you have done greatttt!!!
But you got a lot of them! So nice !
I'm a new subscriber for 2 weeks and I've watched all your vids. I have never done that before, so that's how much i enjoy watching you...but...it's bitter sweet, now I have to wait till you post new vid...o well at least I have something to look forward too..
you have inspired me so much.
greetings from south africa
Oh I'm so glad Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this you are so precious I love watching your videos.
💗💗💗
I always learn from my time spent with you! Thank you
Dehydrating 🍓 my landlady/friend gave me, she's so sweet! 😇🌻🌻🌻
Gosh you're so clever, I only discovered your channel yesterday. I've binged watched you since. I'm inspired now to dehydrate my own herbs 🌿
Thank you!
Hi Becky those onions look great
I am going to invest in a dehydrator now that my garden is growing
Your meals look sooooooo yummy my husband and I have the same arrangement as you guys , I cook he cleans but I also clean as I go .
Love the channel keep it up
Just a quick note !! Made my first homemade sour cream !!! Also onions are my nemesis 🤣😂🤣 I used my harvested seeds and now I have tiny onions but that’s okay I’m going to try to use them as onion sets … I’ve been “learning” onions for years .. my other veg are awesome but onions just don’t get big .. neither do my carrots 🥕 sadly … but I never give up !! Btw .. I wish we lived close because a morning cup of coffee with you would be awesome !! You’re just so positive!! I love it !! I watch you all the time !
I just did some onions I had left over from canning French onion soup and they were so amazing we decided to do more along with cilantro, parsley, green onions, and hatch chili's. I bought everything at the store on sale this week as I can't get a garden to work for me where I live since we've been sitting at over 115 degrees most of the summer 😣
Great idea!! Wow that's HOT
I will say, it was the best ravioli I have ever had, and my italian guy friend made the sauce. Yummy!!!
I love your enthusiasm, you have inspired me so much. I am planning vege beds, herb tubs and buying a dehydrator. Thankyou so much. My seasons are the opposite to yours as I am in Queensland Australia.
Yay for Jingles! Also, yay for you and your mom! 👍👍 You two are so cute together. 🥰
Your a smart cookie. Wished I’d known what you know at your age.
Keep up the good work.
Love ya
Yay! I’m so excited for another freezer meal video. You have inspired me to start doing them because I start school soon and won’t have the time to cook a lot. Your freezer meals and DITL are my absolute favorite videos to watch on UA-cam.
I love all the food knowledge you share! Do you gather your knowledge sporadically or do you enjoy focused research and have books/sources/shows you'd recommend? I'm fascinated by all things food science and am always looking for more! Your channel is super refreshing!
I LOVE your dehydrator! I have just your basic one. My husband gave it to me for Christmas about 7 years ago. I need to get at least a 5 tray like yours!
You can take those onions and make mini blooming onions to.
Oh perfect! Thanks so much for your great idea,😊🌻🌻🌻
You’re such an inspiration! Thank you for these awesome videos.
