In someone elses game, Japanese planes strafed Flying Dutchman. It took no damage. He was unable to get into torpedo position to test how FD would react to torpedoes.
i love that some games have ultra rare events. Even in a historical sim I don't think its that bad if its extremely rare. So rare that some people could play for years and never see it.
The Japanese convoy was so juicy even the Flying Dutchman wanted to have a go. But on a more serious note sailor lore says if you see the Flying Dutchman it means doom is coming. I guess it’s the black dog of shipping.
32:59 - Yeah, no way in HELL would a Fushimi class gunboat be out there! Those are shallow-draft river gunboats. They were built in Japan and then disassembled, shipped to China, and then reassembled to operate on the Yangtze River. They were NOT designed for operations in the open sea! The only gunboats that could do that were foreign ships captured from the Allies or the Japanese-built Hashidate class of two ships (Hashidate and Uji).
37:42: William Turner:"It's the Flying Dutchman!" (at least it didn't summon the Kraken.) Seeing The Flying Dutchman is like your playthrough of Return of Obra Dinn.
Taff, I must say I LOVE this series, even though the other one(s) were awesome as well. It´s SO much fun to see the american subs for once. Keep it up! Really hoping you´ll go up the sub-tree as well, moving on from the Porpoise to Salmon -> Sargo -> Tambor/Gar -> Gato -> Balao -> Tench when possible! The bigger the better, you know. ;)
Apparently the Flying Dutchman can occasionally be engaged and sunk (it appears to be a glitch that allows this, and the most sensible guess I've seen is that the game sometimes confuses it with a fishing trawler for damage calculations), has a tonnage of 200 (which supports the trawler hypothesis), but always respawns in that general vicinity. If you get up nice and close you can supposedly see ghostly men spawn on the deck and start working the rigging, etc.
Excellent episode taff, wonderful that the mk 14s functioned in this chapter, failure is so rife with those it becomes unbelievable at times, but the magic with the deck gun never gets old. Great work in sending those merchants to the seabed, the imperial war machine and it's war efforts will be hurt badly with this one. That IJN destroyer sunk is a great asset to the allied war effort, first IJN warship sunk in the tally.. excellent. Come across the legendary ghost ship in this game 😁, seen a lot of those in other people's campaigns.. love that, always makes me grin in affection. Great episode mate, well done 👏 👍
I think the Dutchman is looking to replace some crew. Otherwise he wouldn’t be following Taff. He knows Taff will hopefully be sending a few thousand men Davy Jones way
@@matthewcaughey8898 Yeah I can believe that one 😁 😁, if Davy Jones is following taff around I can imagine he might have a debt to pay, hand over a hundred or more souls and then be free, but we can be sure taff isn't going to run off like Capt Jack Sparrow 😁 😁 😁.
Well youre going to have to return to Pearl harbor eventually...yu can't use any Dockyards in the Phillipines, Singapore or the Dutch East Indies...they will fall before repairs can be completed,(though the crew and officers of the USS Perch don't know that...)..Maybe try for an Australian port for hull repairs if you want to run the patrol any longer??
Glad to see you in silent hunter 4 I would love a remake of the American sub campaign but keep on hunting and be wary of American torps I had one circle back on me and I had to crash dive to avoid getting hit 😂🫡
I attempted to download the mods you listed but cannot find the one that enhances the periscope tools like the range setting device. I’ve looked at the subsim site for the GFO you mentioned but it redirected to some other site with no luck over in such place at all. Please if possible give some advice on this mod since I like to follow you very much and as close as I can.
Historical question ... are there any recorded instances of an American sub rearming at Singapore during WWII (even before Pearl Harbor)? Did the US Navy have a sub-tender stationed there?
at 36.10 could it be japans secret weapon ship? you may find a aircraft carrier there too...... take out the biggest warship from a distance.... these warships is a subs dream come true.
No. It's only a 3 inch gun, very small by WW2 standards. And the USS Perch is a Porpoise class submarine of 1,316 tons surfaced - bigger than a Type IXC U-boat.
Its actually called Guadal Island on old maps and the waters are called Guadalcanal. The battle of "The Slot" an Henderson field, Guadal Island battle. The Guadalcanal campaign was the first victory the US military had against the Japanese after almost 2 years of defeat.
Thats cool you attacked a destroyer. Wolfpack doesn't have the stones to attack them amd he's not a true submarine. I want to choke him out sometimes. There's only 2 kinds of ships. Submarines and targets. He's not a shark underwater. He also gets into trouble because he won't sink destroyers. I totally wish I had this game.
There were sailing ships in the first world war and in the Second World War used by civilians and shipping companies that were sunk by both sides just because of the flag they flew under in fact the uboat that sunk the lusatina previously sunk a series of large shipping yachts headed for Irish ports from New York
All too easy, using the deck gun manually. Without the sights going up and down with the waves, every shot is an easy hit, no challenge in it whatsoever, making the video boring. Much more interesting to let the crew handle the gun while you watch from the bridge.
The sights are stablized, but the gun barrel is not, you can see some farther shots hitting heigher than closer shots without the range table moving. He's also fairly close since the gun is zeroed at roughly 800m and he's hitting the side and railing, probably 500 to 600m, basically point blank
The Flying Dutchman is however unsinkable, tough luck! 😁
In someone elses game, Japanese planes strafed Flying Dutchman. It took no damage. He was unable to get into torpedo position to test how FD would react to torpedoes.
Why would you want to? It's a Dutchman, the free Dutch forces are part of the Allies! :D
Loved you meeting the Flying Dutchmen near the Dutch East Indies. Some dev has a sense of humour.
The Dutchman’s hydrophone sound is probably:
LEDLEELDELEEELDLEEE!!
XO: Captain, our Mark 14's have been replenished.
Captain:… yay.
famous last words
Captain: Did you say replace?
Davy Jones is following you to replenish his crew.
"Do you fear... death? Do you fear that dark abyss? All your deeds laid bare... all your sins PUNISHED?"

seeing the flying dutchman is a bad omen and somethings bad bound to happen
Well, I never!!! A full rigged ship of sail!!! Did you just enter a time warp? They'll never believe it at Pearl Harbor!!! This is GREAT STUFF, Taff!
At this point I’m pretty certain the crew is running scared
They’ve nearly been killed so many times and now they have encountered the Dutchman
Definitely not a good omen . . .
The Japanese convoy was so juicy even the Flying Dutchman wanted to have a go.
But on a more serious note sailor lore says if you see the Flying Dutchman it means doom is coming. I guess it’s the black dog of shipping.
Let's just hope that the doom is that of the Japanese task force on the horizon at the end of the episode!

Got to sink the war ships, you are not in the kriegsmarine anymore. lol😅
taking out the merchants are just as valuable as in the Atlantic. all of japans many active fronts resources are overseas just like the UKs
You sound tired Taf, hope you are doing well! Appreciate the videos over the years
Thailand was originally Siam, Formosa is now called Taiwan.

I dunno, the Dutchman being sighted could be a portent of doom for the Japanese task force :)
The Dutchman in the background with taff taking position. The Dutchman, she comes for sailors souls. The Dutchman, she comes to reap her bloody toll.
Wonder if Wolfpack has ever spotted the Dutchman.🤔
Wolf is a horrible submariner.
My opinion only.
Friend rarely did the sub surface especialy during a combat mission.
No, you're right. He makes hasty, panic decisions when he doesn't have to. He'd be pretty great if he would just calm down a little.
Arrrrgghh! Left us hanging! Battleships on the horizon and …. To be continued! Love it. Hurry!
16:00 kinda cool that the destroyers flash morse to each other. I would have loved to decypher the whole message. Is that base game or part of a mod?
All the time I spent playing this growing up, I never once encountered that ghost ship. Cool to know that's in the game..
Nice gunnery, despite the bad weather. Can't wait for the next ep.
Nice to see the flying dutchman try save the DEI
Great stuff, Taff! Nice gunnery in high seas on that lone freighter.
I hope you know you can flip the compass open to get a better compass dial that shows you the heading the ship is on.
Ending on a cliff hanger ? Nice! thank you Taff!
Command, Captain Taff here, we have encountered an armed bath tub!
Oh, and the Flying Dutchman too. But they are neutral so we didn't engage.
I love your Silent Hunter series. I can't wait for more of this!

Sad that large troop ship got away I'm sure you'll get more opportunities👍
Love the wind and sea sounds. You should make an ambience video.😉
Thanks!
Would you ever do a sh4 ‘we dive at dawn’ play through?
Formosa is the old name of Taiwan
the DD you sank was indeed an Akizuki class

Great episode!!! Loved It!!!
Taff, I really liked the video content.
"Pick this up next week" - you evil evil tease .... may the barnacles of a thousand sampans infest your crew's underarms.
The dutchman will distract the task force while you set up your ambush hopefully a good sign for you.
Yah, met the Dutchman once and realized it was an easter egg. So cool.
Glad to see you in silent hunter 4 I would love a remake of the American sub campaign but keep on hunting and be wary of American torps I had one circle back on me and I had to crash dive to avoid getting hit 😂🫡
I believe that actually happened in real life and sunk the firing sub?
I think it did too it was one of the flaws so skippers usually would fire and then dive deeper to avoid that
Actually I reinstalled SH3 last weekend. Enjoying it immensely
This is quite the first patrol already… once you’ve bagged a couple of battleships you’ll go down in history haha
Sink the Dutchman!
Not sure that's really short sleeve shirt weather there at the start of the patrol, did all the watch crew loose their coats? :D
Damn, ended too early. I wanted to see the IJN go toe to toe w/ the Flying Dutchman

Seven seas, surely....
Let's send the fish at them to sink those merchants!
Over all the years and mods for SH4, I have never encountered the Dutchman.
If you see the Black Pearl see if you can get some rum. I think you need it 😂
I have to say, your No.1 needs a talking to. He really doesn't seem to be able to keep a decent trim on the boat!
YES!!!
Destroyers are good targets to go with merchant ships
Historical question ... are there any recorded instances of an American sub rearming at Singapore during WWII (even before Pearl Harbor)?
Did the US Navy have a sub-tender stationed there?
Have u modded this game was thinking about getting it ?
Waiting on U-boat updates
I wonder what the Japanese Fleet thinks of the ghost ship ? or do they see it ? maybe only for whitey's scared eyes ?
😅 I was about to make a joke about the ship being the Flying Dutchman...
Is this an updated re-release of this game? If not, how are you able to run it on modern hardware, and OS?
What???? It runs just fine on new hardware. What is wrong with you.

No. It's only a 3 inch gun, very small by WW2 standards. And the USS Perch is a Porpoise class submarine of 1,316 tons surfaced - bigger than a Type IXC U-boat.

Anyone else getting an ad every 4 minutes? Has to be a glitch
