The Goblins in the first are also based on the FF1 sprites rather than the normal XI ones we're used to
Also a very interesting reference a lot of people miss is the first pack of mobs in the Hero's Run duty before the Elidibus fight. It consists of a Fighter, a Monk, a White Mage and a Black Mage. Which is the combination of classes commonly seen as the most optimal for FF1 to play with.
It was such a nostalgic moment when i found matoya in ff14

What I like in FFXIV is that the references are always genuinely brought and subtle. They're not going to throw in our face a fight against Sephiroth just because he's a very popular villain. That's why we didn't get Ultimecia at the end of Eden raid series. She's referenced, but not here.
We literally fought Kefka, Exdeath, Xande, and CoD tho.
Also, the Viera just copy paste the lore from XII, up to and including just dragging Ivalice into this new dimension.
Chaos in XIV uses an attack called "Knock Down" which is a reference to the line "I, Garland, will knock you all down!"
Awh I was expecting you to put in the clip of Elidibus' iconic line -- "I am mankind's first hero, and his final hope!"
Missed one reference. The fact that the game uses a four man dungeon system instead of 5 like wow, is mirroring the ff1 party system.

This is a great series, though it seems you missed a few. Two of the fiends (Kraken and Tiamat) make a appearance as a boss and a NPC respectably and the dragon village seems to be a shout out to FF1's dragon village.
Yeah, I definitely realized this long after I posted this video. I will definitely make another video on what I missed and this will be on there for sure!

during the very beginning of shadowbringers i got overly excited that the first race names were all the same/similar enough to the first game and thought that each shard was to be a different FF games universe. This was very shortly shot down by the Crystal Exarch but i still love that detail.
I always found such comfort in Matoyas cave, I've only ever played 15 and 14, tried 12 but I'm glad to know it's a reference to 1. It's such a soothing song and makes me feel cozy.
Kholusia also has the Goblins in the shore from the first game, on the First. Wild! I never pieced that together until after I finished Shadowbringers.
This channel needs more subs! Love your content despite not beating a single FF game. Although I play a shit ton of FF 14. Good luck further.

i love your videos, i first saw the FF3 video, paused and had to see if you had made one from the previous and here i am, about to marathon all your videos.
Someone my of commented this before and months ago from this but i want to bring to attention the Elemental Armor of Fending and Maiming sets from Eureka. It is a loose adaption of Garland's iconic armor style with the twisted helmet horns and shoulder spikes from his Dissidia Rendition with a few extra details to make it it's own.

Fat chance you will see this, but I'd like to talk to you about some of the references in this, and some other videos that you might have missed!
Some of them include Japan-only references.
Example: you missed the "Knock Down" attack that Chaos does, which is a reference of Garland's iconic "Knock you all down" meme. Yojimbo also says "I'll cut you down to size"" which is a reference to the same meme (retranslations of the same line in later releases).
Also about Elidibus' fight; that depiction is actually closer tied to the Dissidia version (confirmed by virtue of his dialogue, and attacks lining up with those of Dissidia WoL)

I'd like to contribute with an obscure/minor reference to FF1 in ShadowBringers:
On MSQ 5.3 before the heroes gauntlet there's a cutscene where everyone on the First has visions of the final days and spectral warriors are summoned; the first summed champion is a Spectral Swordsman that attacks Thancred and he's wearing the Legacy Warrior Attire and Modern Legend hairstyle (obscured since the spectral warriors glow), so he looks like the FF1 sprite rendition of the warrior (ua-cam.com/video/iCKajnATy0k/v-deo.html -2:22:14 for reference).

Also, I would say Tiamat and Kraken are little nods to at least two of the four fiends, even if only in name. I dont know if Marylith and Lich are in XIV at all or even mentioned.

Hoping we can see more of these videos in the future. I really like patch 5.3 overall and how it brought us through memory lane with the dungeon itself, the solo duty, and of course the MSQ trial. I had the same impression when I first played A Realm Reborn early days and how the job system was similar to the old FF games where one character can switch jobs freely, which was an easy positive feat for me.
Fantastic video there were some things I didn't know and it was great. Some fun things you might not know is the whole Alphascape is supposed to be a nod to FFI. The name itself has Alpha in it which means the beginning as well each boss is sort of a reference to FFI as well. You already mentioned Chaos so that's done. Midgarsourmor is sort of the tricky one my friend in Japan says midgarsourmor is a recolor of Bahamut, it could also be a reference to Shinryu who was in a version of FFI along with Omega. It would sort of make sense since in FFXIV Midgarsourmor and Omega were rivals just like Omega and Shinryu are in other FF games. I just mentioned that Omega was in a version of FFI, but Alphascape 4.0 is also a FFI reference. Omega transforms into the FFXIV WoL with a hairstyle that makes both Omega-M and Omega-F look like characters in the FFXIV logo, but Omega-M also looks like the FFI WoL artwork. It's extra apparent if you look at the face of Omega-M and the WoL in Seat of Sacrifice.
Also some abilities here and there in FFXIV are quite similar to the Warrior of Light's in Dissidia. PLD's Confiteor looks remarkably similar to Rune Blade, and the tank buster attack in Seat of Sacrifice The Bitter End is also a attack WoL has.
Warrior sprite’s red armor is the Legacy armor that you can purchase on Mogstation since the event has long passed. Zodiark shares inspiration from both Chaos and Sephrioth. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the mouse cursor minion and the airship minion which take their designs from the original. I’m pretty sure the last boss of the Pandemonium: Asphodelos raid is loosely based on the FF vampire boss. And finally, the Warrior of light’s sword has another model that can be obtained in Sigmascape 4 Savage. Though this is just the sword, not the shield.

It should be noted that FFXIV's FF1 Warrior of Light takes more after Nomura's/Dissidia's version of the character. Not just his appearance, but nearly all of his moves are pulled straight from that character as he alone is meant to represent FF1 as its sole hero in lieu of a full party.
