      @@TroutWest Ok heading back up Tuesday but staying in Bishop at cardinal village resort. Going to fish the pond there and of course stop at baker creeks ponds after your tip and success. There apparently is a pond near glacier lodge..would your setup be slip shot 1 foot leader and size 10 mosquito hook for all ponds and sand traps? For bishop creek would you go with a clear float and like 3 foot leader? No wife this time just me my son and a friend and his son. Lastly worth a drive up to whitney portal? Thanks for the information Urban. I'm heading up there in a week (mid-October) and plan to fish between Long Pine and Bishop (first time), and hit the sand traps, the Owens and ponds. For years I've been blowing right through this area to head up to the Loop. My primary target is bass. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  3 роки тому

      There are a lot of options for bass in the Owens Valley... All require knowledge of the area to safely navigate to them but they are along the Owens River, some of the canals also have Bass. They're a lot of fun to catch good luck up there

    Great video. When you say you can fish anywhere a road crosses over Owens River do you mean those are ideal spots to fish or legally? I plan on doing some primitive camping along the east side of the Owen River in between Big Pine and Bishop, are you legally allowed to fish in the Owen River anywhere along those towns? I see a lot of trails that are less traveled unless you have the know how and equipment to get through to little camp areas that look like places to fish. Im looking for more isolation. Also can you confirm that there are probably alot of mosquito during summer when camping along the river? Thank you.

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  4 роки тому

      You can legally fish the entire owens year-round. The areas where the road crosses over the river tend to be better because the plants go in at those locations. Tons of bugs along the owens, especially in those warmer months. Mosquitos can be down right brutal.. I've been chased out of a few spots over the years.

    • @TroutWest

      Bridgeport reservoir, Twin lakes (Bridgeport) Virginia lakes basin. East Walker River.. the further south I would go in this year afore good action that time of year would be June Lake area. I would focus on Bridgeport reservoir near the dam or see if they have some boats for rent. the East Walker will be incredible that time of year. Virginia lakes should be good still but I would only fish big Virginia. If you go farthest south or want to hang around anything south of June Lake focus on the mammoth lakes area as they will definitely keep it well planted especially Lake Mary. I would avoid Bishop area altogether it's pretty bad outside of freshly planted stocker size fish. Go prepared for snow and very very cold temps. as for the camping I would focus on green Creek just south of Bridgeport or Virginia lakes Canyon there are some good campgrounds along there. There are also a few good spots in the Robinson Creek area south of Twin lakes. if you want the experience the best spot would be green Creek.

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  4 роки тому +3

      Bishop Creek canyon. Try Intake 2, North lake, and Sabrina near the boat ramp. at northlake you want to walk toward the lake from the north parking lot and go to the left once you hit the lake look for the rockslide looking area along the left side and fish there. Intake 2 you want to fish the spillway... Lake Sabrina mainly you want to stay by the boat ramp as that's where they plant the fish but if you want to be a little more ambitious walk to the back of the lake and fish one of the peninsulas that face the rear of the lake. Bishop Creek can be very good. You will have to explore it to find good sized holes. The South fork of Bishop Creek is fun near weir pond. South lake is difficult without a boat.

      This is great! Thanks!! This is year round fishing right? What about PVR?

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  4 роки тому +1

      @@jonmendez5448 all of this will end on November 15. after that you will need to fish the year round spots which includes pleasant valley reservoir, Owens river, Diaz Lake,hot Creek,East Walker. if you fish pleasant valley reservoir in November Target moving water on the North side near the power plant where the water widens out into the lake. Avoid very still water. If you must fish the more open water, cast close to shore with short leaders and be very quiet as there are fish near shore you will spook. In the colder months before the water cools down a lot the fish tend to be near shore among the rocks. If you fish pleasant valley be prepared for bad weather and wind. The wind tends to get bad in the canyon in the fall. I recommend throwing lures as a primary especially Thomas buoyant, Always have one bait rod out though. Make your bait really small with heavy scent. Good luck out there make sure you report back how you did. I recommend copper and chrome Thomas lures for the Sierra. I use gulp eggs in bright colors with scent use one egg on a #10 mosquito hook.
