    Great Job with the mapping I have spent hours surveying and mapping as well. Kirman and Benton Crossing along with Rock Creek and Wier Pond were not really mentioned so I just did that. PB or "Personal Best" at Weir 18lb Brown Intake II 25 trout caught and released in 25 consecutive casts and Hilton Creek on Crowley 12lb Lohathan Cuttthroat! Grand Slam Grandpa missin Alpers

    On our last trip, we fished Sabrina and Crowley. Lots of fish. Didn’t make it to June loop. So many places to fish. Will be going back soon. It’s beautiful up there.

      Definitely check out other areas.. I'd go further north. The fishing has been better from June Lake north.. Try camping out in the virginia lakes canyon area fishing there and brideport.

    Been to all the lakes in both North and South Videos , the eastern Sierra is the place where fly and lure fishing go hand in hand. Some days they refuse any lure but never been skunked with a fly . But my biggest fish came on a frog Crocadille at Convict a 37" Brown , our scale maxed at 10lbs guessing 20 lbs. Been on both sides and always prefer the Eastern side , for fish and relaxing.

    I was at Crowley last week. Caught two 4 pounders, 3 three pounders, and many 2 pounders.
    Great quality fish, but it was slow. Your videos are great. Love your videos. Went to Owens above Crowley and it was pretty low.

    • @TroutWest

      Crowley has historically produced some quality fish but I've heard some struggle with numbers at times. You sound like you did pretty darn good out there!!! Thanks for tuning in.

    We tried Intake II once. It was very busy. The first day was great. The second day was a skunk plus there were too many people fishing shoulder to shoulder.
    Mammoth itself is getting too crowded in the last few years. It still is good for scenery though. Lately we've been going to Bridgeport and to Utah. One thing about Mammoth is if you fish by boat, watch out for the afternoon winds. We once rode white caps back to the launch ramp in our two seat kayak.

      We only went to Panguitch a few months ago for the first time on the recommendation of my cousin from Las Vegas. The water was too hot and green so the trout didn't taste very good. It was a nice visit in our RV though. What was disappointing was people blazing up and down the beach front in their ATVs. Looking forward to your other videos.

    I went up with my family over the summer after school, caught 2 7pound natural rainbow trout out of Lake George in Mammoth. Did get followed by a bear and her 2 cubs but 14 lbs of fish in 4 hours ain’t bad. Caught them on pink and white mice tail for anyone wondering

      We camp with a travel trailer. One of our favorite campgrounds is at the Bridgeport Reservoir Marina & RV Park. It accommodates everything from tent to full hook ups. It's right on the edge of the water and is possible to just throw a line out from one of the picnic tables if no one is using the spot.

    Hey, thanks for all the info, I was wondering if early to mid June would still be a good time to shore fish Grant Lake

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  5 років тому

      Still very good.. fish are super active that time of year. Near shore early... Suspended late. Steep shoreline near road or Rocky shore near Oh ridge camp

  • @TghtLin

    You mentioned to launch a float tube at Gull in it's South West corner of lake by "Fire Station". Is there a place to park your vehicle after launching if not checked into Campground? I looked closely at Google Earth and don't see a place to park. I will have a 8' small camping trailer too. Maybe it would be better if I launch North of that spot above the rocks (use that dirt road you pointed out)?

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  2 місяці тому +1

      There's parking in that area by the rock but not if you have a trailer.

    Great video, thank you for sharing. One question is there are any lakes that you can find consistent 1 to 2 pound brooks? I’m from San Diego and only get a couple days up there a year and always try and do the best possible. Thank you

    • @turnerkay3334
      @turnerkay3334 6 років тому

      From shore that is

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  6 років тому

      Turner Kay there used to be quite a few but these days you won't find anything consistent. Your best bet is time of year early spring late fall fishing the inlets of lakes between 9800-12000ft. Northlake out of Bishop Creek Canyon is a pretty good bet but timing is very key there.

      There are a lot of lakes up there but they will be iced up pretty quick it depends on when you're planning on going... The time of year will dictate what lake I would advise to go to

    What gear are you using in the Sierra? Lures or bait? I see a lot of people using clear water weighted bobbers with flies. Is that necessary? What time of day is best? Great videos.

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  6 років тому +2

      I use Spoons mostly... Thomas Spinning lures is the company, but the Thomas Bouyant and Thomas Cyclone are the go-to for the models, copper or gold are the colors. I use Fire Tiger color too depending on light conditions. As for the Baits, I do throw "Gulp Eggs" or "Power Eggs" .. I use a single egg on a mosquito hook, #10 or #12. Leader is your choice. With the "Bubble Fly" combo.. it's very fun and very effective if the fish are near the surface. If you see a ton of bugs at sunset skimming the water that's a good time to try that. cast far, retried super super slow. barely a wake behind the bobber slow. IF you use that set up definitely stick to early morning or Sunset (Golden hour) As for the spoons and such I use those all day, never have an issue. Depth plays a factor on the time of day if anything. Noon= deep

      @@TroutWest Thank you for the reply. I've got my 9 year old up in Mammoth for a few more days and I'm hoping to get him to catch some fish! We've been skunked for two days. Maybe it's the lakes as we've been fishing some of the "hike to" lakes.

      Love your video and info. Quick question for you. What size Fire Tiger do you recommend and which do you prefer, Buoyant or Cyclone? 1/6 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, or 5/8 oz? Are you trolling or bank fishing with the lure? Heading to Lake Mary and June Lake next week and they mentioned Fire Tiger as well. Thanks

      If your going to catch & release guys then stay away from any baits, they swallow the hook instantly. I catch just as many if not more using water bobber & fly and every hook is right on the lip, real easy to unhook. Also casting or trolling a spinner with gold works very good too.

      To add to catch and release fishing, also use a net to avoid touching the fish a much a possible, they have a coating on, and squish down the barb on the hook.
