  • I had quite a few subscribers ask how I did my Water changes so by popular demand This is a how-to on water changes, hope this is helpful to all.
*All methods and ideas discussed in this video are based on what has worked for me locally with my municipal water supply and my particular aquarium set ups. This might not work for your aquarium set up in your area with your local water supply. I take no responsibility for any of the ideas that might be used from this video that don't work out to your expectations.

Hey Paul I think some of us may have wanted to see how you vacuum and clean in a heavily planted tank.
Interesting thoughts about the water company and thanks for the other tips . I really enjoyed it

That's the thing about a planted tank, as long as everything is growing well you don't need to plunge vacuum the substrate just suck up the visual gunk...

How do you keep your Pogostemon Helferi (Downoi) alive? the plants you sent me slowly died off over a period of months and I read and talked to some people how all said you have to have hard water (TDS 250 or better) to grow it?

Hey Paul ! It wasn't rambling you told all the fine details what and what not to do's while you did the complete water change on 2 of your small breading tanks. I and we all do it only everybody doing it differently. My difference is I no longer use the python cause the dirty water I poor it on my lawn as fertilizer instead of in the drain. Also I don't directly fill it from the tap cause of the chlorine and the temperature could change depends on my water heater how much was in it (at first very hot and as it goes out the cooler it gets) So I use conditioned water same temp heated as in the tanks and I run an air stone full blast for all the gas exchange and add what ever in the water. Also I only do about 20-30% water cause the constancy is working better for me so I do it every 3-5 days. Yes I use a huge plastic barrel to keep the clean water that is replace it and use a very small water pump so I take my time and I do other things while it's filling. I have many different idea how to auto water change but the 100% is hard to do. I mean have safety if something happens so don't overflow or overheat or take out all the water so you get the picture. But I do it manually with only a small electric pump on hand like how you used to do it Paul in your previous water changing video back in a couple of years ago as you showed the trashcan. On this video you demonstrated and advertised the python (I hope they pay you for this) and with detailed explanation on the importance of the water change ! Great video Paul as always !

After a dreadful 1 year bout with 2 subpar Aqueons and 1very short lived Lee's, it was a no brainer for a python. I haven't regretted my beloved python 1 day since. Btw, you know you're much loved by your subbers when they specifically ask to see how you remove old tank water.

I have 5 tanks at my bar. a 125 behind the bar, and a 75, 55, 36, and 30 elsewhere in the restaurant.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE PYTHON!!!! LOL Granted, being a restaurant I have 9, 5 gallon buckets at my disposal. Using those makes a python pointless. Not to mention, anytime I change the water I stick my gravel vac in the gravel, and do a cleaning while I'm at it. 2 birds with one stone. And toss that water down the drain??? HELL NO!!!! Every plant and tree around the building gets beautiful, plant LOVING water. All you're doing is adding volume to your local sewage water plant.............while I'm just "watering plants." :)
And walk around with 45lb buckets, and enjoy the workout!!!!

Sahadi420 Who told you my plants were dying of thirst and/or neglect? On the contrary, I have to refrain from over watering them. Besides using my python, I still have significant use for buckets of numerous shapes, sizes, and volume.
Python’s saving grace is it’s ability to remove limitless gallons of water without the MANDATORY need of a bucket. You are correct about the massive downside of clean flowing water being dumped down the drain via siphoning. Although, there are countless examples on UA-cam of marrying a siphon hose to a powerful pump.

Hey just subed, some great info there and enjoyed the video, I actually syphon my water out of my 500lt tank streight onto my garden during my weekly water change, I just wish I could set it up like you to do the refill instead of by bucket, just one question tho, can I just add the correct amount of water conditioner to the tank, then add the water, or do I really have to add it to each bucket? Cheers,
    Andy from the UK 🇬🇧
