  • This is part 1 of a three-part series in which we will redesign and hopefully learn a few things about Co2 systems on a planted tank..
*All methods and ideas discussed in this video are based on what has worked for me locally with my municipal water supply and my particular aquarium set ups. This might not work for your aquarium set up in your area with your local water supply. I take no responsibility for any of the ideas that might be used from this video that don't work out to your expectations.

Hi Paul. Do I need a dual STAGE regulator? Or, is a single stage good enough?

There has been a lot of talk about that on the internet, most say that with a single stage when the tank gets low enough it will dump whats left into your aquarium and probably kill your fish, Dual stage regulators are two regulators built into one. The first stage knocks the pressure down to a regulated (constant) PSI for the second stage.
This prevents fluctuations due to changing PSI from the from the tank. Two-stages will also add extra protection. Yes.. single-stage regulators are less expensive and are commonly used with no issues. However, it's up to you to decide if that risk is worth the extra money. A single stage can add risk and can be more difficult to get a reliable and consistent output. Now that said I have been running a single stage for three years with know issues and fantastic results, but if you get one that was built on a Monday morning or Friday afternoon? Jus Sayin!
