- I had two benches that have been sitting around for a few years, getting uglier by the day, and for some reason not fixing themselves. So I decided to tackle them both and give them many more years of life, while making a great show piece, but not spending a ton of money to do it. I share a bunch of little tips to hopefully help make your project turn out awesome!
Help support the channel and the things I can show by using the links below, it costs nothing to use them, but helps me out so I can help you!

What can I say that has not been said already? Technically spot on , every step explained in an easy to follow way , the viewer is neither overwhelmed with technical stuff or talked down to as though they were an idiot. You do it in a relaxed way , which makes the viewer relax in turn , which is essential if you want the information to sink in , and no superfluous chit chat. For me personally though, it might have been better if you could have talked just a tiny bit slower, but perhaps that’s because I’m English
So glad you explained the different products/steps in rust and painting. You can also use a piece of wood the same size as your slates and put a hole at the end and use it for a templet. Just hold it flush on the end and sides and hit the bolt with hammer. Leaves a nice indentation for drilling out. My only concern is countersinking the bolt heads. Wouldn't that hold water? Awesome vid!
I'm glad you found it useful. You absolutely could do that. I'm not worried about it with Cedar, it won't rot
Thank you and more people show fix and not throw out. They look great.
Thanks!
Great job!!! Saves putting stuff in the dump!!!...love the projects you do...Viv
Thank you!
Wow! Great job! They’re beautiful
Thanks!
the adhesion promoter is only for polyolefin surfaces. things like car bumpers, interior parts etc. Not for metal per the manufacturer.
Exterior paint does not need a clear coat. Just get the finish you want satin, etc.
Beautiful work and color choices. Very inspiring!
Can’t wait to work on my benches. Thank you for your attention to detail. Great delivery too!
Thanks so much! I'm glad you like them and found the video. I think it's been under appreciated.
I’m doing the same bench, the arch was a biggest pain, looks awesome great job
Thanks, I'm glad you like it! Good luck on yours if you still have some left
This was too good, from start to finish. I don;t want to fix my bench even though the front piece broke in the center but seeing it all done and how great it looks has given me inspiration
Thanks!!
Wow, thanks so much! Sure why not, what can happen? It looks awesome and you have fun. Good Luck!
I agree with you, being Irish I would say they are 'grand' very good informative video, Thank you!
Thanks! Glad you like them. I'll have to start calling them my grand benches!
Great video. Just what we needed to see. Thank you 😊
Anytime! Glad I could help
I have one just like that one with the cast iron frame that a tree in my yard fell on. Thanks for posting this I am going to try and tackle rebuilding it.
Man, I'm sorry I missed this comment. Unfortunate about your bench, but I'm glad I could help you bring it back nicer and better than before! Good luck on yours!
They both look beautiful, I have just been given one to restore for a family member hope mine turns out half as good as yours
Thanks! I'm sure it will, good luck on your project!
I just bought one bench that is only the sides, and a complete unit that needs restoration. You made it look doable, thank you, and I will get mine done. Mine are going around the fire pit as well.
Man that's awesome! It's totally doable, big time investment repeating a lot of the same steps lol but not that hard. They make great additions to the fire pit. Well good luck on yours and keep me posted! Emailed some pics when you're done, I'd love to see them and share them with everybody
wowza! great job!
Thanks very much!
I like the white wood stain…great job.
Thanks! I love how they turned out
Good Job, super!
Thanks, glad you like them!
Looks good 👍
Thanks!
all so learning how to do park bench, only where you just repaint metal sides i paint the sides designs so it stands out better
Nice
Is this possible if all the wood was broken rotted and don't have anything to copy for the seat boards
As long as you have some kind of reference or idea for how wide or thick they need to be you can start fresh and make any updates you want
Very nice
Thanks!
@@JessedoesDIY look good in black & white here in uk there is a lot black and grey together
Nice. Yeah I wanted something to be different from everything around here and I wanted it to pop. Thanks for watching!
Hello Jesse from Vancouver, where abouts are you? I to did a bench last summer with 5/4 stock and man is that bench solid. You benches look great and you explained everything in enough detail so we can understand well done. I do have a question, with the temp saw horse table you used to paint on why didnt you use the table when sawing and save your back lol. I have to add I have never seen someone on youtube restoring a bench and so much time on prep before painting nice touch. Subscribed and looking forward to watching more vids. Take Care
Hey! I'm in Regina, Sk. Oh it's way more solid than 3/4" material, good choice. Thanks, I'm glad you liked them! I could have used it for sawing on I supposed, but at the time I only had one plug in on the outside of my house that worked, and I didn't have much room for the table over there, or a high enough guage extension cord for he saw lol. Prep is everything when it comes to finishing, especially with rattle can paint! I wanted to get it across that you can get a great finish, and long life out of it if you rake the time to do it properly. And after 2 years of use and Sask winters outside, it still looks great! Thanks for subbing, welcome to the crew! Hope to see you in more comments
What size slats do you use plz and how big please 1:01
I said the thickness of the boards like 30 seconds later, 3/4" and 1" thick, and the widths were ripped to the same as what the benches already used
