- James has a swift roving session on his beloved River Wye near Hereford. He's in pursuit of quality chub and barbel on the Des Taylor designed multi use Specimen rod. It's a very versatile rod as he ably demonstrates in this action packed video where simple tactics sort out some splendid specimen fish. Just a few days after filming James was crowned Wye Champion with an outstanding catch of bleak, in total contrast to this video of course! What a river the Wye is!!!

The beutiful river Wye. Never been and never will, keep the dream alive. Best river in the U K at present. That luggage you have done by Des Taylor will sell really well Well done James. Tackle for anglers made by anglers.

Brilliant video,, lovely fish,, like the lighter test curve rods ., had some very good barbel whilst fishing for chub using bread mash hemp, n white maggots as hook baits ,,, funny it happens alot you fish for one n get the other same with boilie n pellets you end up with chub .
James really is the modern day John Wilson, I could watch your videos all day mate ( and the wife says I do ) and chappy edits a really superb video. 👌

Its a chub...OH no its a Barbel lol you got it wrong a few times in this video lol Nice video love watching you catching Barbel James. i have 2 of those reels for my Barbel fishing and i also set my rig up the same as you and its caught me loads of Barbel this year. Thanks for all the info you provide really helps alot.

Always excited to see a cadence fishing upload especially on the wye! Congratulations on the wye championship win well deserved. What a day and what a section! The 2nd peg you fished looks a lot like the peg you've float fished before during the summer? Dream about a day or two like that. Did my first wye trip sat with water pumping through and no where really to hide! I blanked but managed to get my brother his first barbel and chub in the best but could find. Great video
Well spotted Jon, you are quite correct. Actually my own brother came along and he caught two barbel later in the day..his first ever. Loved it. Chappy 👍

Hi James - A couple of questions - Is there any reason why the Avon top of your rod is painted white, but the same top on the 11ft 1.5lb model isn't painted white, is the later too stiff to be used as a feeder top? Also, I see that you form a simple loop at the bottom of your rig, is there any reason you don't twizzle that loop to both increase the stiffness and create a slightly elastic section for shock absorption? Many thanks
The 1.25lb comes with 2oz, 3oz tips but you said you were using a 4oz that it came with?

I would appreciate it if someone from Cadence could clarify which rod they used in this video. I have the 1.25 and 1.5 but would have thought that the 1.25 might struggle with Barbel in that flow. Thanks.

@@wonkylommiter6364 That’s why I am confused. That rod doesn’t have a 4oz quiver tip which he definitely says he is using. The 1.5 tc does have a 4oz quiver tip. Would like them to clarify. Cheers for your reply though.
