I am born and raised in Florida. Here now in Gainesville waiting to move to the Philippines. Love the islands went to University of Hawaii in Honolulu
No Shit? Im in Gainesville too, looking to move to the PI when it opens up..
Go Gators !
@ScubaChef it’s Dylan and are you in the Philippines or Florida? Be well wherever you may be, Hopefully near the water and sun!
Why are you moving to the Philippines? Florida is a beautiful state.
Don’t know this guy full story but leaving 3 kids behind is not a stand up individual
Some woman make it impossible to kids
Yo Gio ! He Helped Me too as an Expat Retiring eatly here ! Thanx giys !!
Yeah I was similar. I graduated Colorado tech. 7 years boys scouts(national guard) then active 7 years. Good job gio
How tf can you leave the country with a parent in assisted living and three boys?
I totally agree with you, but my ex who is a physician and we lived literally 30 minutes from each other. He would go 18 months without seeing his sons. I don’t know if this guy is a deadbeat dad, but if you are a deadbeat dad it doesn’t matter where you are in the world.
I have to agree. This struck me as very odd. I could never leave my sons regardless of custody. Now once they are men, I can see living your best life and keeping in touch. I was very disappointed to find this out about Gio.
He goes back and forth to see them.
@@bb89670 no, he doesn't
I'm almost 70, my mom is alive. She's 95. I can't wait to move t the Philippines. I would never leave, I could never live with myself.
Great interview guys. Thanks for producing!
Another great interview,I follow GIO, as well very articulated and on live chat can answer questions like he’s not reading. Great work Mark keep up the good work.
Great interview.. Keep 'em coming..
Interviewing the interviewer, a different switch. Gio does have a boatload of info especially about the Philippines on his channel.
Good job Mark as usual. 👍
Interesting bio from Gio. Actually I have watched his videos along with Old Dog, Reekay (not so much...he's bit of a talker...but he does have good information) and there were other that either used to do blogs but don't anymore like a guy who's videos started out by saying "IT'S MANILA BAYBEE". He hasn't been around for years but he did some good videos. I think its wise to listen to the trailblazers. You can better prepare if you ever decide to stay in the Philippines for an extended stay. Nice video Mark!
@@simoncollier1961 thanks for the tip. I'll check it out
videolux - "it's Manila Baybee" still around and posts every week
Nice interview, I watch Gio also..am from Appleton, Wis, then Oakland, Ca (here now) but share a house in Chiang Mai, Tland when there..waiting on covid to wrap, etc, etc....thx for the vid..enjoy the day 🙏🏻👍🏻✌🏻🕊
Aaah Colombia! Nice! I love it here. 😀
Thank guys great video this is the first chance I've had to watch it
Starting at 17:58 Both of you talked about getting visas for your GF's. I do know its very hard for filipino citizens to travel abroad unless they are celebrities and sport fiqures with income that matches first world countries. So difinitely you can't get your GF visas to the US, Austrialia, NZ, and most european countries unless you did what Finn Snow did with his GH getting a Schengen visa to Europe . K1 visa is the only way . However they are allowed to travel locally to most southeastern countries like S. Korea, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia,Indonesia , if they could afford to get a RT tickets.
It's always a "girl". I am hoping one day Philippines would have an economy where the women wouldn't have to settle just so they can get out of poverty.
Very good interview. It is always interesting to hear about the background of other expats. Thanks for providing this video.
Great interview of a fantastic guest!
hi gio and mark, i am so happy to hear from your point of view. Thanks for sharing guys
Wow I'm in Clearwater fl I'm going retired in Bohol soon
Great interview Mark. Gio’s channel is helpful.
...you are a very skilled interviewer..and Gio was a really great interview..a very well-spoken and interesting guy..keep up the good work...and thanks for sharing..
Good interview from both of you, thanks for doing it!
Great interview and saw it before but like it better the second time.
I was not a fan of Gio for picking up and leaving 3 kids, still not but I should not be a judge.
Great interview.
Great interview.
I like Gio as a vlogger and his vids are top notch. I'm not going to judge his private family life.... ...well....because ....it's private. He does seem and sound like a pretty smart and savvy person. I think his teaching job must be pretty lucrative to be able to pay child support, live overseas and be able to travel. More power to him for having found a way to take care of his expenses and still live a travelers lifestyle.
Great guy very straight forward.
Very good. Thank you.
Thanks for the video .
Im from Minnesota too. Was stationed at Peterson AFB
Gio is a great interviewer. Happy to see him interviewed.
Great interview Mark. I also Subscribe to his channel and had no clue he had three young children back in the states.
KL is a better place for him. Nearly 4 years on and he is still in the Philippines. Wha happened?
nice tips man
Gave up my motorcycle in the Philippines and got a car. After 60, reaction time really slows and a motorcycle doesn't make good sense anymore.
So now that makes you dangerous to motorcyclist....maybe you'd better just take a jeepney or tricycle from now on.
As a Filipino I agree.
Filipina with new passport, expect to go to secondary interview at immigration. It is a real PITA. It happened the first TWO times we traveled outside the Philippines. They actually turn quite a few girls away and refuse them travel. Make sure you have PLENTY of pictures of the both of you over time and allow for 1 to 2 hours at secondary interview.
Another great interview. Thx
If you are moving to any country for retiring just think 100% what's the next step and you need to adjust. Do not expect to much. Just observed first before you decide that this is a place i want. I am Filipina simple living in life. God bless
Good video. Gio has a way of getting to the point without rambling.
Where are you guys at in the Philippines? I would love to me when to get some tips.
Internet connection here in the Philiippines is very bad.
Agree on riding in a tricke! Here in Ilocos Norte they use a small cabin and it's for small people, mostly female passenger and not for older fatty foreigners! Jeepneys are also difficult to crawl into if you are older and more than 5 fot. So, it's driving your own car is the only comfortable way. Driving here is something you have to get used to and the speeds are low for the most of the time as here you will always encounter to be behind a tricycle or a sidecar motorbike(used for everything you can imagine) they can't go much over 40 km/h, so the median speed is therefore low! But, otherwise it's to keep your eyes open and don't drive at the dusk as filipinos do not know when to turn their lights on! They think they have cat's eyes!
I agree about the tricycles: I had my share of problems with them when I was on vacation there. I general, the ones in Palawan have bigger cabs, and they are higher off the road. My akwardness at getting into a tricycle was a joke for one of my friends there but I laughed too.
I like Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia but the outer regions are also good. English is widely spoken. The island of Penang, Butterworth, and Sungi Petani, Stiawan, Ipoh, all excellent places to locate yourself, people don't cook they go out for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it is cheaper to eat out than to cook at home, plus the quality and taste of the food is terrific. Love the Teah Tarik (like a milky tea), Roti Chanai (like a fluffy pancake) with Indian style dips or extra rich with an egg and with condensed milk, Satays, Curry Laksa, Asam Laksa, the list goes on, just mind blowing. Plus they have all regional asian dishes, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean BBQ etc. All the places I mentioned are easy to get to on their airconditioned trainlines and/or buses.
what visa is readily available at the longest stay?
Fascinating what you 2 gentlemen have accomplished along with Paul and others. Namely the promotion of a quaint little town somewhere in the Visayas. We only know about this place exclusively due to your documentaries on UA-cam.
From my Lonely Planet SE Asia on a shoestring Feb 1992 edition- “Dumaguete is a very pleasant little town centred around the Silliman Uni campus. There’s a small anthropological museum. There are many good beaches around Dumaguete. Camp Lookout 14km west of the city provides fine views across to Cebu and Bohol.” Interesting that Gio talks about KL 2 years ago and he is still in Duma….must be a good place right?
I thought it was hard for Filipino's to get passports because the country is worried about them not coming back (due to financial/employment reasons) and western countries don't want an excess of illegal aliens
Sorry but it's not
It is very easy to get a passport. However, getting a visa and passing Immigration here and abroad is another thing.
I ride my Adventure bike in Australia but the climate is great and protective gear is more comfortable so when you fall, there is no problem, and with adventure bikes you come down quite often when offroad.
I like this story. What about child support? 3 boys and no child support?
I was thinking the same thing. He hiding in the Philippines to avoid responsibility.
@@RM-yn1kz But if you skip child support you cant renew the passport.
Great interview and he def has a Story. I’ve been listening to Gio for a while but never knew his background. Keep up the great work you guys!
"Instant girlfriend" I think the ep. Was called on his site!!!!! And yep I watched it!!!!
Gio nice advisor 👍 I’m agree with him about Kuala Lumpur
Try living a few months in Kuala Lumpur for a few months first and feel your way around especially with the culture and the local’s general behavior.
I watch GIO's channel. I was always curious of his history as he looks to young to be retired. He has promoted Maylaysia on his channel - it sounds pretty darn nice there !!!
You just need 20 years of military service to fully retire in the US military.
Are you saying Gio did 20 years in the military and retired?
GODBLESS 👍
Are you far from Clark Airbase Pampanga Mr. Vlogger, the reason why I asked every Wednesday there are group of PhilAm US Navy Retirees always go there and spend their times with their buddies, it’s a Coffee shop name Espresso Cafe across Chili’s Restaurant all are enjoying their Retrement over there☘️🇺🇸☘️🇵🇭

Hands down if I spoke Spanish I would of picked Medellin
Good interview. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure not all the ex-pats in the PI are as cool as you two.
Absolutely go thru the 3rd degree as they should. We were grilled for 35 minutes at the Airport....want to see conversation, pictures, questions if any support has been sent, phone records....don’t forget you’ll have to pay her one time exit fee. We went to Thailand (bangkok and Phuket).
I know Gio personally & used to be his moderator on his channel and am a flower of his vlogs. He is a good guy. Best wishes to both of U.
He ended up there because he was a fugitive in every other country? lol.
I live in a Canadian city, which has thousands of people from Philippines.
Back in 1990s, there used to be organized parties/dances every weekend, where white dudes got to meet single Filipino women.
I have worked with a few people who came from Philippines.
My experiences have made me love halo halo.
But I hate the smell of Philippines cooking fish, and other Philippine food dishes.
The Philippines people are loyal to their own family unit.
But don’t count on that friendship if you are not part of the family.
As long as you have money and she needs you, she will be a good friend.
But than it’s so long sucker white dude.
Good to remain single

My sister's husband's uncle who served in the navy, he became a police officer when he came back to the US. He fell in love with the Philippines, decided he wanted to move there to retire. I think a lot of veterans moved to the Philippines to retire.
The cross polo nation is cool
Where are taxis please
Mark, what is the name of the company you work with?
My BFF's husband's nephew ( they R Chinese Americans...Hong Kong Chinese ppL) His young nephew took off a few years ago went to Beijing & teaches English. I think in Beijing they told me he gets $25 for half an hour to $50 an hour. So now everything must be online.
I was in germany ar the same time gio was there also ft carson was my last duty station
This is my husband’s UA-cam account and I been watching or we been watching expats bloggers especially from Dumaguete. I went to school in Dumaguete but I’m from the town of Siaton. I don’t judge or a hater here. But my question is, what amount can you send to a 3 young boys away from their father is working in the Philippines ( peso salary rate? Full time job?) also supporting financially to his young girlfriend? My husband is 57 retired 2 yrs ago but works only 2-3 days a week . I am 55 working 3 days a week planning to work few more years. We have 2 daughters 26 and 22 both born in the US. I was young once, growing up in the Philippines. What fascinates me is that, why are there so many old foreigners in the Philippines have so so so young girlfriends/ partners? 99.9% of them are younger than their own grand children? I think I have a Great idea 😏. But can you help me if a little answer if you may? I have 2 beautiful daughters I think it will be very awkward if their boyfriends are 1,10,20,30 years older than me and my husband!☹️Like I said, I’m not judging or a hater. Could you make a video interviewing some old- - -der expats how they feel or what is it like having a much much much younger girlfriends, younger than their own kids and grandkids? How would they feel if their own daughters are dating an older man than them?Promise, I won’t miss that interview👍👏. I don’t think my husband likes my questions and comments here but I am curious. 🤔 Thank you, from US / grow up in the Philippines
@Mike Mike lol😂.

Why did gio say hes 49 to you, but to paul i believe he said he was 43??
I have no idea. Who cares about 7 years
@@everymanhasastory right. But if hes lying to his viewers and even his own friends about something as stupid as his age, what else is he lying about?
A valid point
👍
Mark, you are a great interviewer. A lot of information/entertainment in a very short period of time, excellent.
Unfortunately my iPhone was stolen by taxi cab driver in the Philippines too.
How do all these ex-pats get there money to support themselves living there?
Pensions. Mostly. I .think.
One thing, Gio does not provide any support to his 3 boys, if he did, he would not be living in Philippines, he would be working a fulltime job.
Yeah a pretty sorry guy in my opinion to leave his 3 young boys and move away when they need a dad in their life.
@Sun Moon 😂😂
It's interesting how almost every foreigner UA-cam channel never mentions owning a car as an option. I guess it is to save money because the reasons to own a car are mostly the same as in a western country.
@@everymanhasastory ....yes traffic congestion is a problem if you live in trike-infested Dumaguete or places like Cebu City or Metro Manila.
Hello!
I like Medellin too but not enough
Great interview Mark I've watched Gio and he really does provide good information and good adventure videos but he doesn't talk much about his background? Your interview was a really good way to get to know him? You directed the video in such a great way? you asked all the right questions and really it was interesting to get to know Gio in a way that he didn't have to do all the thinking he was relaxed and you guided him through his life and his experiences I hope you do more with some of the vloggers there I love the way your put together your interviews? I love you and Jen and shes really getting the hang of interveiwing and has become quite the UA-camr as well? Thanks buddy hope to meet you soon?
Honestly, I don't like this guy. He strikes me as somebody that uses people to is his vantage. He had a perfectly good Filipino woman in his life and offended her for no reason. She introduced him to her family and she did everything that Filipinos do to cater to foreigners.
Let's talk about a dad who walks away from raising 3 sons...
LOVE Malaysia
Which Japanese company did you work for in cebu? Was it a good experience would he recommend it?
Gio is great
Folks please think twice about moving to the Philippines. Especially now coz lack of jobs is fueling a high crime rate particularly with house break ins. The thieves work in groups with lookouts, etc. and are getting very bold. We just got robbed in what we thought was a very safe and secure subdivision. So far the police are no help. They may show up, but that’s about it. Your on your own here without your guns for protection. Fortunately we weren’t home, but our kids were upstairs and they hit the downstairs area hard and fast. Very scary. Also my wife doesn’t trust the police. She’s also speaking from past experience. You can draw your own conclusions.
what island? what town?
Gio, are you 100% non combat disabled veteran?
@@everymanhasastory Oh Ok, so he is not on disability through the veterans administration?
Mark, I enjoy your style doing interviews. You must do something to put your guests at ease, they all seem relaxed during the interviews. You are always prepared and make your guest the center of attention. You would do a lot better at tv interviews than a lot of people that do it for a living!
He went for the water when talking about his boys. I think he got burn with a Karen legally castrated
hope he send money to them and try to reconnect with boys in the future.
Haters gonna hate. Gio is a friend of mine and I too had a long distance relationship with my child. Then she came nearer to me for college and we have a beautiful and loving relationship. "Judge not, lest ye be judged."
@NOODLES You clearly misunderstand the quote. That's ok. And while I'm not a Christian, you are utterly off track with Jesus and capital punishment. Get real? Walk a mile in my shoes son.
@NOODLES Cry me a river.
Too much fighting in these comments , it’s ridiculous!
I have no respect for this guy, leaves his kids in the United States to go live in the Philippines man up bro
I like Gio, however to be taken seriously I think he shouldn't lie about his age, it then starts people questioning what else is he lying about?
@@wackojacko4828 unfortunately not everyone is honest in this world, ask your good friend Jordan Chandler. If you put yourself out there though transparency is key.
