One point I much agree and have to point out guys, whether you know it or not you are representing all white men or brown or black whatever color you are or if you ride a motorcycle and it's a big loud one such as a Harley in Asia....
hopefully you can realize you're representing a lot more than just your own image there and I resent really crappie Foreigner Behavior right before or while I am present, it just makes it bad name for all of us and some people ought to just grow up... If you like to drink a lot well stay in the city and that party scene will fit better, with its own hazards.. but you never went to mess with Philippine or most Asian police, unless you know someone high up.

@@keiscott2953 THANK YOU!!! I've seen too many loud mouths absolutely ruin situations (restaurants, bars, etc..) for everyone else. Why go to a different country if you expect it to be like the one you left or think you'll change it to your liking because you're the big stud expat. Nobody is impressed.

Very solid advice, without sounding like a know-it-all or being condescending towards Filipino’s. Going on 25 years married to one, I have visited there 6 times, starting in my late twenties. First time, drank way too much with my newfound brothers in-law’s. Everywhere I went, someone would offer me a drink. Then realized that’s not who I want to be known as over-there. And as the only white person I have ever seen in her town, you stand out. Over the years I believe I have developed a mutual trust and respect with the town folks.
    Stay away from the booze.

Top notch advice, live below your means, do not boast, be humble, be polite....learn to bite your tongue and walk away. It is just not worth it. Mark is bang on with his advice. Be safe, but don't just sit on the couch- see the world, be adventurous, take the first step. I have travelled to 130 plus countries. I still get disoriented in a brand new place the first day or two....it is amazing going back to a place you have been to previously, it is so easy... Travel very light, listen more than you talk, dress clean and neat, not flashy, hide your wealth. I have never been robbed or assaulted in over 35 years of travel. If you are drunk out late at night in a sketchy area, then you are asking for trouble anywhere in the world. I really enjoy this you tube channel, no agenda, great advice, great stories from a humble, modest man, living his best life, and encouraging others from a safe and non rose colored perspective

I have 2 businesses, it took me 6 years before I was confident it was the right thing to do and only because I was married and I had a good group of friends I knew I could trust. You cannot do business in the Philippines without Filipino support. 12 years ago I had an export business to Manila from Australia and my partner was Filipino with very good connections. My advice is to come to the Philippines with enough money and income to support yourself, make sure you have money coming in from back home, the Philippines is not a good place if you don't have much money, the locals are already struggling to get ahead the last thing they want is a foreigner struggling to. Forget about relying on a job, wages are extremely low and not everyone can be a successful UA-camr

When I was there in 2016 and I yelled at my gf in public about something, not thinking it was a big deal. Just like you said, she didn't talk to me the rest of the night. Said she was very embarrassed, bc Filipinos will think she is a bad girl and side with the foreigner, causing her to lose face. I once got upset with a pharmacist and my gf said I embarrassed her again. In the states that is not a big deal, but there it IS, like you said. Thanks for the good advice.

Must watch video with very important advice. One thing I would recommend if you’re new to the Philippines is to start in Makati/BGC or maybe Cebu. Then you can get things out of your system and get acclimatised and if you do have some minor behavioural issues, loudness, drunk etc then nobody knows who you are and hopefully you move on. Basically avoid a place like Dumaguete or any other smaller city until you’re comfortable with your surroundings.

My wife is from Dumaguete and I have visited there a few times.
An additional caution about going into business in the Philippines is be prepared to shell out substantial "grease money" for any permits or licenses you may need.
Unfortunately that is how it is done there so you would need a trusted local to be on your side.

    Lessons Learned:
    1. Don't make other peoples problems your problem.

I wish people migrating to Austria would be that humble and respectful to our culture. Especially when they are fed by our social system ... which is US paying taxes for them to get the social benefits here ...

I think this is one of your best video. I've seen 3 of your videos which are good too. Expat should watch this over and over, so it would stick on there head if they're planning to live in the Philippines. You covered almost everything that they need to know. I'm planning to travel to Oroquita city and found out they don't have good restaurants. I heard Cebu has everything and I'm planning to visit once I arrive Philippines.
