    Hey Dr.V thank you soo much to take time of your busy schedule. I had question regarding lors, I know that you mentioned in the comments that ask for 2 lors if your applying two specialties. I am applying to FM and IM. Do you have to send 2 requests to your letter writers? How do you know which one goes with which specialty? Thanks again!

    Hello, do LORs have a validity period? what if i did a rotation on 2018 and have an LOR. Will it still be legitimate for 2021 (for example) match? Thanks !

      Hey! I think ideally getting up to date LORs is better, I'm not sure what the "cut off" for how old in years an LOR is to be considered. I think though, if you can, try and contact those letter writers and see if they can update the letter so that it is more current. In terms of reusing letters for the next cycle, if you have applied in previous cycles, here's a link for the AAMC's guidance for transfering over old documents:students-residents.aamc.org/applying-residency/faq/history-and-import-repeat-applicants-faq/
      Good luck!

    Thanks for this informative video! Had a silly doubt though - if the letter writer has already emailed me the LoR in the past, and I have seen it, should I still email and ask them to upload it directly via LoRP or upload it myself?

      Hey! If you have it already you can upload it, I did that for one of my letters also (the department chair letter) - but if you'd rather the letter writer upload it then just ask - it really depends on your preference I think.

    Hi V , as an IMG wanted to ask if i take clinical experience 2 years before applying in the match cycle. getting the LOR now would be helpful? Or wait to do rotations in that very year to receive recent LOR’s ?

      @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987  3 роки тому

      My advice for LORS: regardless of when you do the experience, best to have a most current and updated LOR for the year that you are applying. ALSO- specialty specific and strong aka talking about what makes you good for that field is best. Good luck!

    What do you think I should do if I hope to get one or two electives this year (2021) and hopefully 2-3 more next year during my internship (Feb-Apr 2022). I'm planning to apply to 2022-2023 match as a recent graduate (graduating in Apr 2022) and I was wondering how to manage this LOR situtatioin. Do you think I should only ask physicians from the the 2022 electives? What if I do an elective this year (2021) and have a good connection with a physician, is it appropriate to ask him/her to write a LOR in a year and few months? Thank you in advance for your help.

    • @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987
      @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987  4 роки тому

      Hey! That's great, keep up the good work with the electives. I always advise applicants to upload the most current LOR. If you are working with people now and applying much later, 100% GET THE LOR as in tell the letter writer youd love an LOR from them and tell them you are applying later on. GET an LOR now if you can so that you have a copy of it later or just for "proof" later in case the writers forget - and when it's your year to appply, reach out to them again and ask for a most updated LOR to uplaod to ERAS. That's literally what I would do if I was in that situation !! ALWAYSSS get the LOR when you can !! GOOD LUCK:)

    great work.
    one question though. if my LORs are written a year before my ERAS application date, how can I get the letter writters to rewrite them for me before they upload them?

    • @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987
      @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987  4 роки тому

      I've replied to you on insta already but just to have it here for everyone else if others have similar questions - it's better to have the most updated LOR so if you hve one previously and can reach out to the letter writer to ask them to update it and submit for you, thats you're best bet!

    If we apply two specilities for example peds and IM, how many LOR do we need to collect for each?

    • @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987
      @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987  4 роки тому

      Hey! I would have 4 LORs for reach program and all of them ideally being written for that specialty aka specialty specific. At least 2/4 being written from letter writers who are clinicians/researchers from that direct specialty is preferred as well aka 2 IM docs writing IM specific letters of the 4 total letters but all 4 letters are written for IM essentially. Good luck!

    • @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987

      You have to manually assign all the LORs to each program so if there is an LOR you dont want to use, then you just dont have to assign it.

    Is there a chance that in some programs which only require 3 LORs to miss one LOR if you uploaded 4?

    • @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987
      @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987  3 роки тому +1

      No - if they say they require 3 then its their cutoff/minimum, uploading 4 will not affect this in anyway - 4 is better regardless in my personal opinion.

      @@vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987 Thank you very much, Dr. Solanki! I've been receiving different opinions on this one even from Match-a-Resident that there is a risk in uploading 4 LORs - that some programs may see it as "not following directions" or they will just randomly select 3 and may miss out on your best LOR.

    • @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987
      @vaibhavisolankivm.d.5987  3 роки тому +2

      @@francispaulbattung8011 I'm going to be a 100% real with you: last year when I applied, I uploaded 4 LORs to every single program I applied to and I worked my butt off to get those LOL but the big reason for that was I didn't have extra time to go through and see 3 vs 4 so I uploaded 4 for all - that never came up as a problem, the places I interviewed at didn't ever bring it up, nor was it a concern for my other friends applying last year. That being said, could this be a "thing" where programs dont see all 4 and randomly choose 3, maybe not sure. In my personal opinion, I find it hard to think that if you are a good applicant like have strong scores, good recs, good PS, etc. then they would hold it against you for having an extra LOR...LOL..the cutoff for 3 lors is usually, in my personal experience, this is a minimum and not a "hard cutoff". I would always double check with the programs themselves like if they are vague on their website about it or something to clarify. GOOD LUCK!
