I am an old graduate from Mexico. YOG 2008. I came to the USA right after my graduation, November 2008. I started working for a internal medicine doctor from India since then, I have been with her for all these years. I did not know any English at that time and I was going through a really severe depression. I did some research on the USMLE steps and everything but I was not emotional stable at the moment to do that Journey. Two years later I got married had twins they were sick a lot and I had so many stressful years being a mom and a wife. in 2017 when I decided to go back to my studies I got pregnant again and now my daughter is 3 years and ready to go back. Now doing the research again I see that is almost impossible for my to go back with 10 + YOG. My husband is does not understand this and he is not 100 % supportive. the only support I have is my mom. Now I am 36 almost 37 years old and I am seriously thinking on go back to medical school again, do basics, bachelors degree and all of that in order to be accepted into a medical school. My scores in my school in medicine were really good, I used to be an excellent student. I want to be a psychiatrist now. any advise?
You have had a hard journey. While match is certainly possible, the specialty will depend on scores your experience and interest. Psych is getting harder but still doable with step 3 and research. First try getting step 1 out of the way, try to minimize gaps going forward, have a 18 month to 2 year match plan. You can certainly do it.

doctor i have a question and your answer will be fateful for me ..
I’m IMS
I started medical school and after passing year one . I had to take a leave on absence which lasted for 5 years ( due to medical condition-orthopaedic condition -.. then the pandemic delayed my start and made everything worse)
The question is … will this long gap in medical education minimise my chances in matching ( GYN or IM)
Even if i score high in step2 step3 .. do valuable researches and get US clinical experience?
As i have been hearing from friends to forget about the us pathway..

Hi. I'm still a med student, but I am suspecting a delay of 3-4 years in my journey after graduation. Just started third year, three years till graduation. Emergency medicine is my passion, and it's ridiculously neglected where I live. Do you think it will be possible for an old graduate to pursue a competitive field in half a decade or so ?

I started studying medicine in 2010 in syria and unfortunately had to move out to turkey because of the war during the 3rd grade in 2013
I was lucky enough to get accepted in Istanbul university medical school one year later in 2014 and to graduate in 2018
The problem now is that i have 2 gap years in which i could not secure myself any good working positions
Is there any chance if i take the usmle exams that i could match into any specialty at all ?

This program accepts J visa from ecfmg so visa didnt play a role.
@@uzairlatif4290 visa requiring IMGs typically do research on J visa
Also there are applicants on dependent visa like H4 and rotations can be done on H4.
Thank you for this video! I graduated in 2010, did a residency in Radiology and a Fellowship in interventional radiology, both in Spain. I have been working as a radiologist since 2016 and I’m studying for the USMLE. Do I have a chance of marching into residency given I am now 34yo? What do you suggest to increase my chances?
You absolutely have a great chance. Get good scores to start with. Then may be look for research

Hello. I had a query. I am in Img from India. Year of graduation 2009. I finished my MD in internal medicine in 2013. I have also completed my MRCP UK. I have 8 years of working in an excellent and reputed hospital in south india. Currently i am working in Uae. I have a step 2 ck score of 230. Currently preparing for step 1. I also have around 10 research papers. My sister is a us citizen

Match is certainly a ticking clock but is doable for you even now.
Sir. My YOG is 2013. Finished radiology residency in 2020 from India, post that i am working as a consultant in private hospital. Now i want to change the branch and get into surgical branch primarily, else any interventional branch. No publications and research work. How difficult it is. Would it be better to go for surgical residency again in India or try for usmle. Basically i want to do definitive surgical work. Is it doable for usmle, how to start? Thanks in advance.
very hard with your YOG but scores/research and USCE may help. IM will be much easier
Thanks for the prompt reply. I am not interested to pursue IM. I am ready to give time and effort for whatever it's required for any surgical speciality or interventional radiology. Would my Radiology experience count positively? How do they see the transition in this particular aspect. What are the odds of getting a match in my desired specialty with this long YOG?? Is it worth trying at this age..if yes how to start with.
I’ve graduated n 2017 .. after that I prep one year for civil services .. 9 months worked as a doctor .. then started prep for Indian pg cleared in 2021 .. so il come out by 2024 .. wishing to be at USA by 2024 .. I think it counts 7 years from 2017 .. to 2024 .. added my pg in India ... is it possible ? Hello. I graduated in 2018 from India, I recently gave step 1, my score is 244. I'm finding it difficult to get observerships/research position in the near future. If I apply next year, it will be over 5 years after graduation, can I still apply next year or will it be too late?
You can check rotations on our website www.usmlesarthi.com. you can always apply after yog 5 but best to apply sooner.
I m graduate of 2019 and will go for home country residency...so in 2025 2026 I will be applying can I match into internal medicine or pediatric after 5 year of graduation and how much score should target?
Step 1 will be pass fail then. As of now good CK score will be 240+. Step 3 of 230. But things could still change in 5 years.

You mean an extra year, gap? Depends on why the gap was.

Sir I'm an old graduate (YOG=2014), with no home country residency. I was working in hospitals and medical colleges as tutor and junior resident in India all these years. I know a few of my friends who have finished residency in the US and working there as doctors, so I think I'll be able to manage contacts. I'm going to give my step 1 in two months. I feel really depressed that my yog is too back and I have no home country residency, because most old imgs in your videos seem to have a home country residency to compensate for it, which I don't have.
Is my usmle journey worth it and will I be able to have a decent chance of getting matched? What should I do to compensate for my old yog and lack of home country residency sir..
High ck score, and high step 1 score if you take it this year. Home country experience definitely helps but 4 to 5 months of USCE plus any research that you can do.

Yes pathology can be done. Assuming you gave experience in pathology after your home country residency.
As an IMG graduated in 2016, currently doing PhD outside USA and average USMLE scores in 240s, appx 10 first-authored clinical papers, what are the chances to match into surgery?
Research is considered highly in surgery. If you can keep building professional relationships and continue to be in touch with clinical you can.
I pray for you. Hope that you will get into the program. I am currently in 2nd year of med school and watching these videos to prepare me for the challenges ahead. I want to be a neurologist someday and hopefully be able to practice in the US.
