People will always focus on Bitch I'm Madonna. They will never know about this work of art. This is easily her second best non-single, along with Skin from ROL. So underrated, and so sad that it was forgotten. This is our little secret now.

Tbf that's all on Madonna, how can she backtrack artistically this much with that subpar track? Ray of Light and Confessions are her highest artistic achievements.
Not everything can be released. Stop abusing the term under rates. This was on a World Tour! This was given Life! I Produced an MA thesis on the Drowned Tour and this was the item on my 1st Chapter, her Scholarly Representation of the Geisha in Paradise Not For Me.... this was very Crucial! I had to defend my paper with chapter 1. I showed the video to my professors and they were shock... They all said Where is Madonna on that video?

I love how even Madonna's backdrops HAD more substance, style, cinematography, message and artistic quality than majority of the general music videos of the time! She WAS truly the champion of visual formats... Sadly for her she has now been relegated to a sad nostalgia act... with new desperate attempts at remaining relevant that are just cringe worthy.
Today I was reading about people’s opinion about Madonna’s career in comparison to other singers like Gaga, Mariah etc ... none of these singers( they may be better vocalists) but the vision, the artistry , the music , the depth of the songs you can’t compare ... Madonna is really ahead of her time and her work is timeless ...

The way I see it: Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga... They all have better voices and vocals than Madonna because they are "true singers" but Madonna... She somehow is remarkable because she's an ARTIST and will be unforgettable!

Mariah WAS a more accomplished singer but Madonna IS a far more talented dancer, writer, performer & musician. Gaga has never been a better singer and she is a FAR less accomplished dancer, writer, performer and entertainer. If she was all those things better than Madonna she would have more hits, more sales, more world records, concert ticket revenue and overall credibility. And she hasnt. 10 years in and Gaga has already peaked. Madonna covered her career with just one album
I think this song is about dying. Getting old and dying. In the lyrics she tries to remember when she was young but she can’t. But she knows that after she’s gone her face will remain in people’s eyes. They will remember who she was. And the whole video is a death ceremony. She’s getting dressed with her best kimono and helped by her assistants, while two warriors represent the fight between life and death. And then she performs her last dance and after that she has her “death walk” while two assistants walk behind her accompanying her in her walk to the Light. But when she walks into the light the assistants remain on the other side of the door and the doors closes behind her. She’s on her own now. Because we all die alone. And the light comes down on her and takes her away. But when she dies a red light comes out of her mouth, her “life breathe” escapes her body. And at the very end we see a dead tree. It’s a cherry tree, which is the symbol of the “tree of life” in Japanese culture. When she performed this song live at the Confessions Tour there was a screen behind her showing a cherry tree losing all it’s flowers, representing the passing of the seasons of life. And at the end of the performance when the tree has lost all the flowers and the “winter of life” arrives, a light descents over Madonna while she sings “there is a light above my head, into your eyes my face remains”, and the light takes her away, up to the sky, returning her to the source of life. Now, in the Drowned World tour this video was shown as a backdrop video while on stage there were dancers coming out of cocoons, representing death as a form of birth.

I have to say as a fan of Madonna since 1983, that her music videos over the years have shown how much of an actress of ability Madonna truly is, as in her music videos Madonna's character actress persona comes out and illuminates the Video Screen with Women of Many Kind, Images, as I call them. As a young Madonna, she was very emotive and loud, yet silky and smooth at the same time, while as the more mature Madonna she has become unpredictable as to how she might dress or, at times as we all can, try to act as if much younger in years.
I would say she was pretty much unpredictable in 80's also. from Like A Virgin to Papa Don't Preach and then BOOM burning crosses and Black Jesus in Like A Prayer. This is definetely wasn't something Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston dare to do. This isn't pop, this is punk. I bet nobody could predict this after that Pepsi commercial. And now people gone mad because of Lil Nas X Jesus. They should make a collab. About Black Jesus and people who piss out of it. Somehow Madonna is always changed and never changed, like she is the one. Like change is what she is. But still being romantic and full of love. A perfect combination.

Algo que la caracteriza es que supera sus albunes uno tras otro, despues de "Ray of light" de 1998, "Music" del año 2000 tenía un sonido un poco mas ácido y futurista mas ligero que el antecesor...
