I listened a few times to Don McCleans version; Madonna's version doesn't even come close. She's actually one of those "musicians" that got worse as I grew older. And as much as I admire her as a very strong and determined woman, I'm beginning to see she grew from absolutely nothing.

I remember getting this on tape with my pocket money when I was at highschool, taking it to my bedroom and playing it on repeat while sitting on my bed, sun shining through the window, learning all the lyrics, now when I hear it, it reminds me how fast times flies by, one minute you are a teenager the next you are in your 30's listening to the same song which hits you so differently because of the nostalgia..both happy and sad feelings.

Music is the eighth studio album by American singer Madonna, released on September 18, 2000, by Maverick and Warner Bros. Records. Following the success of her previous album Ray of Light (1998), she intended to embark on a tour. However, her record company encouraged her to return to the studio and record new music before going on the road. Her collaboration with French producer Mirwais Ahmadzaï resulted in a more experimental direction for the album, with additional production from William Orbit. Music incorporates many different genres into its overall dance-pop and electronica vibe, with influences from funk, house, rock, country and folk. The album was mostly recorded at Sarm West and East Studios in London, England. Elaborating a country theme for the album, Madonna reinvented her image as a cowgirl.
Music received critical acclaim from most critics, who praised Ahmadzaï's unique production. The album earned five Grammy Award nominations, ultimately winning one for Best Recording Package given to art director Kevin Reagan. In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked it at number 452 on their list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The record was also a commercial success, debuting at number one in over 23 countries across the world and selling four million copies in its first ten days of release. As I’m watching and listening to this on 2021, and after constantly being tired of so much division in the US, I’ve noticed something that’s been always there in this video but today it left a big impact on me: every single scene or shot of this video shows very, very different people on it of all types of backgrounds and ethnicities, but in the background in every single shot is the American Flag. This is America, a melting pot. We all bring something to the table. This is us, all different but United. I’m proud to be an American. I’m a huge Madonna fan, but this cover is terrible. It’s completely soulless and does no justice to Don McLean’s iconic original. It barely got a mention in the recent 50th anniversary documentary about the song called The Day The Music Died. It was a conspicuous omission because numerous other artists’ covers of the song were included. Don didn’t mention Madonna’s cover once, it only got a passing mention in the film from Weird Al Yankovic, who had done one of his parodies of the original the year before Madonna’s cover came out.

What an everlasting redition by Madonna from a true classic song. Love it. Waves of memories came pouring over and instantly reminisce good ole time! From the back of my head, I truly missed the early 2000's era where most things were much simpler (by landslide) in so many ways 👌 Just a simple glance at the complicated world we are living today, you'd get what I mean
i remember when this came out and the local radio show said it was the MOST controversial song they had ever played. people were calling in furious that Madonna dared cover this song. ha. anyway ... i always loved this, and she looks gorgeous here.
