    Lyrics:
    A long, long time ago
I can still remember how that music used to
    make me smile
And I knew that if I had my chance
I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
Did you write the book of love
And do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so
Now do you believe in Rock 'n' roll
And can music save your mortal soul
And can you teach me how to dance real slow
Well, I know that you're in love with him
'Cos I saw you dancin' in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues
I was a lonely teenage broncin' buck
With a pink carnation and a pick-up truck
But I knew that I was out of luck
    The day the music died
    I started singing
    Bye, bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee
    But the levee was dry
And good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singing this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play
Well now, in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
Tho church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire the most
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
    The day the music died
    We started singin'
    Bye, bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee
    But the levee was dry
And good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singing this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
    Bye, bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee
    But the levee was dry
And good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singing this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
    We started singin'
    We started singin'
    We started singin'
    We started singin'

Good for her. Now she's 66.😂 There's this thing called (biological-) time.
I listened a few times to Don McCleans version; Madonna's version doesn't even come close. She's actually one of those "musicians" that got worse as I grew older. And as much as I admire her as a very strong and determined woman, I'm beginning to see she grew from absolutely nothing.
Was she able to read bars, did she ever played an instrument?
      I really don't know.

@@smoly37 madonna has written 95% of her music and produced 90% of it. she can play a little guitar but she is the best at drums. you can watch interviews with cowriters and coproducers like patrick leonard or william orbit to learn more about how involved she was. according to patrick leonard madonna wrote live to tell in 15 minutes. so yes, she is a "musician".

I remember getting this on tape with my pocket money when I was at highschool, taking it to my bedroom and playing it on repeat while sitting on my bed, sun shining through the window, learning all the lyrics, now when I hear it, it reminds me how fast times flies by, one minute you are a teenager the next you are in your 30's listening to the same song which hits you so differently because of the nostalgia..both happy and sad feelings.

Don McLean, songwriter, about Madonna covering his song:
"It is a gift for her to have recorded 'American Pie'. I think it is sensual and mystical. I also feel that she's chosen autobiographical verses that reflect her career and personal history. I have received many gifts from God but this is the first time I have ever received a gift from a goddess."

MADONNA - THE QUEEN OF POP!
Madonna Louise Ciccone (/tʃɪˈkoʊni/; Italian: [tʃikˈkoːne]; born August 16, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She has influenced various other artists and has often been referred to as the "Queen of Pop". Madonna is noted for her continual reinvention and versatility in music production, songwriting, and visual presentation. She has pushed the boundaries of artistic expression in mainstream music, while maintaining control over every aspect of her career. Her works, which incorporate social, political, sexual, and religious themes, have generated both controversy and critical acclaim. As a globalized figure, Madonna is also noted for her cultural impact throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. She has her own academic subdiscipline devoted to her named Madonna studies. Scholarly reviews and literature works on her made Madonna one of the most "well-documented figures of the modern age".
Madonna moved to New York City in 1978 to pursue a career in modern dance. After performing as a drummer, guitarist, and vocalist in the rock bands Breakfast Club and Emmy, she rose to solo stardom with her debut studio album, Madonna (1983). She followed it with a series of successful albums, including all-time bestsellers Like a Virgin (1984), True Blue (1986) and The Immaculate Collection (1990) as well as Grammy Award winners Ray of Light (1998) and Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005). Madonna has amassed many number-one singles throughout her career, including "Like a Virgin", "La Isla Bonita", "Like a Prayer", "Vogue", "Take a Bow", "Frozen", "Music", "Hung Up", and "4 Minutes".
Madonna's popularity was enhanced by roles in films such as Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), Dick Tracy (1990), A League of Their Own (1992), and Evita (1996). While Evita won her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, many of her other films received poor reviews. As a businesswoman, Madonna founded the company Maverick in 1992. It included Maverick Records, one of the most successful artist-run labels in history. Her other ventures include fashion brands, children's books, health clubs, and filmmaking. She contributes to various charities, having founded the Ray of Light Foundation in 1998 and Raising Malawi in 2006.
With sales of over 300 million records worldwide, Madonna is the best-selling female music artist of all time. She is the most successful solo artist in the history of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and holds the record for the most number-one singles by a female artist in Australia, Canada, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. With a revenue of over U.S. $1.5 billion from her concert tickets, she remains the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time. Madonna was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, her first year of eligibility. She was ranked as the greatest woman in music by VH1, and as the greatest music video artist of all time by MTV and Billboard. Rolling Stone also listed Madonna among the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. She also featured in several Forbes earning lists as the highest grossing female artist during various years across four consecutive decades.
And I have the great, great honor to have in my discography ALL THE STUDIO ALBUMS of our QUEEN OF POP! All in CD format! And many of these CD-albums are duplicated, triplicated, quadrupled, quintupled, sextled, etc. I still have the CD-albums of THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION, two units, SOMENTHING TO REMEMBER, three units, GHV2 - GREATEST HITS VOLUME 2, two units, too. I also have two CELEBRATION units. I still have a copy of the most recent triple CD-Album, FINALLY ENOUGH LOVE: 50 NUMBER ONES, released in August of this year. Madonna's second remix work where all the number one remix songs on the US dance music chart are included! I also have the soundtracks of our QUEEN OF POP, WHO'S THAT GIRL? from 1987 and I'M BREATHLESS from 1990. One copy of each CD-Album! And, of course, one copy of YOU CAN DANCE, released in 1987. Madonna's first remix album! As you can see, I'm a huge and true fan of the unrivaled QUEEN OF POP OF ALL TIME! ❤️💯‼️👑💯‼️
Music is the eighth studio album by American singer Madonna, released on September 18, 2000, by Maverick and Warner Bros. Records. Following the success of her previous album Ray of Light (1998), she intended to embark on a tour. However, her record company encouraged her to return to the studio and record new music before going on the road. Her collaboration with French producer Mirwais Ahmadzaï resulted in a more experimental direction for the album, with additional production from William Orbit. Music incorporates many different genres into its overall dance-pop and electronica vibe, with influences from funk, house, rock, country and folk. The album was mostly recorded at Sarm West and East Studios in London, England. Elaborating a country theme for the album, Madonna reinvented her image as a cowgirl.
Music received critical acclaim from most critics, who praised Ahmadzaï's unique production. The album earned five Grammy Award nominations, ultimately winning one for Best Recording Package given to art director Kevin Reagan. In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked it at number 452 on their list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The record was also a commercial success, debuting at number one in over 23 countries across the world and selling four million copies in its first ten days of release. In the United States, Music debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with first week sales of 420,000 copies, making it her first album to top the chart in more than a decade since Like a Prayer (1989). It was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for three million units shipped in the United States and has sold over 11 million copies worldwide.
The album was promoted with her concerts at Brixton Academy and Roseland Ballroom, as well as several television performances such as the 2000 MTV Europe Music Awards and the 43rd Grammy Awards. It was also supported by the Drowned World Tour, which grossed over US$75 million, making it the highest-grossing tour by a solo act of 2001 (the fourth overall). Three singles were released from the album. The lead single, "Music", topped the record charts in 25 countries worldwide and became Madonna's 12th and most recent number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100. It was followed with another Hot 100 top-five hit "Don't Tell Me" and "What It Feels Like for a Girl" which attained the top-ten position in several countries worldwide. "Impressive Instant" was released as a promotional single in the United States, peaking at number one on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. “Amazing” was also briefly released as a promotional single in Germany, Spain, Italy and Colombia before being withdrawn shortly afterwards. ❤️💯‼️👑💯‼️

      "American Pie"
      Released February 28, 2000
      [Verse 1]
A long, long time ago I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile
And I knew that if I had my chance
I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
      [Verse 2]
Did you write the book of love?
And do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so?
Now do you believe in Rock 'n' roll?
And can music save your mortal soul
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?
      [Verse 3]
Well, I know that you're in love with him
'Cause I saw you dancing in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes (Both kicked off your shoes)
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues
      [Verse 4]
I was a lonely teenage bronking buck
With a pink carnation and a pick-up truck
But I knew that I was out of luck
      The day the music died
      I started singing
      [Chorus]
      Bye, bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
      [Verse 5]
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
Well, I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play
      [Verse 6]
Well now, in the streets the children screamed (The children screamed)
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed (The poets dreamed)
But not a word was spoken (Not a word was spoken)
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire the most
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
      The day the music died
      We started singing
      [Chorus]
      Bye, bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
      Bye, bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
      [Outro]
      We started singing
      We started singing
      We started singing
      We started singing
Produced By William Orbit & Madonna
      Written By Don McLean
From the album The Next Best Thing
Also included on the eighth studio album, MUSIC (2000) in many copies. After a reissue in 2001, the song was dropped from the album.

As I’m watching and listening to this on 2021, and after constantly being tired of so much division in the US, I’ve noticed something that’s been always there in this video but today it left a big impact on me: every single scene or shot of this video shows very, very different people on it of all types of backgrounds and ethnicities, but in the background in every single shot is the American Flag. This is America, a melting pot. We all bring something to the table. This is us, all different but United. I’m proud to be an American. To live and love this land, and where we can all come together and coexist.

It was a conspicuous omission because numerous other artists’ covers of the song were included. If its good enough for him then so sez i. This version will not be in any of my playlists but as a cover, she did okay i spoze. Thank you Madonna for not butchering such a special song to us all.

    A long, long time ago
    I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile
And I knew that if I had my chance
I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
Did you write the book of love?
And do you have faith in God above?
If the Bible tells you so
Now do you believe in rock and roll?
And can music save your mortal soul?
And can it teach me how to dance real slow?
Well, I know that you're in love with him
'Cause I saw you dancin' in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes (both kicked off your shoes)
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues
I was a lonely teenage bronkin' buck
With a pink carnation and a pick-up truck
But I knew that I was out of luck
    The day the music died
    I started singing
    Bye bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy
    But the levy was dry
And good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing this will be the day that I die
This will be the day that I die
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
Well, I went down to the sacred store
Where I heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play
Well now, in the streets the children screamed (the children screamed)
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed (the poets dreamed)
But not a word was spoken (not a word was spoken)
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire the most
The father, son, and the holy ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
    The day the music died
    We started singing
    Bye bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy
    But the levy was dry
And good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing this will be the day that I die
This will be the day that I die
    Bye bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levy
    But the levy was dry
And good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing this will be the day that I die
This will be the day that I die
    We started singing
    We started singing
