I went through Navy Boot Camp in 2010. During the first week (p-days) I absolutely hated it. Every second of it! However, once you get used to the routine and get to know the people in your division you'll start to realize that it's not so bad. There is a lot of yelling and a lot of stress but remember that it's a game. Once it's over you'll look back and laugh about it. My advice is simple, before you go to boot camp memorize your general orders, get at least somewhat in shape, teach yourself not to talk, know the basics of swimming, and you'll get through just fine.

I leave November 4th, 2015. Not too far away, huh? I'm extremely excited. Not excited like most people. Most people are excited to leave and to get away from their home town. I'm more excited to go and learn self worth, respect and discipline. It sounds insane.. I know. I've been told. But regardless of what anyone says we all have our own motivation for why we want to go. Plus, I'm a big learner. I love to learn new things and new ways to do things. Thankfully, I know my general orders, rake and rate recognition, chain of command and sailors creed like i know how to walk. Still working on my physical abilities, but i'm not far at all. This video was really helpful to me on what I should bring and expect the first day or so. Thank you and Thank you for your service.(:
I remember being in Navy boot camp 6 years ago back in 2009. I'm on my 2nd enlistment now as an AD2 (Aviation Machinist's Mate 2nd Class Petty Officer) and loving it. You're absolutely right about the first 40 hours or so in boot camp without sleep. It's very disorienting at first cause there will be lots of yelling, cussing, and lots of telling you where to go and what to do during your first hour of just arriving at RTC Great Lakes. Depending on how badass your RDC's (Recruit Division Commanders) are, your division will get IT'd (Intensive training as a form of punishment) over the smallest mistakes made by one of your fellow recruits, at least in my division (269) did. So be mindful of what you do and always pay attention to the instructions given by your superior Petty Officers or Chiefs. Boot camp is pretty simple and those weeks go by fast. Just know your chain of command from the President down, Navy core values, and definitely the 11 General Orders of the Sentry. Oh, and don't be that guy or girl getting caught falling asleep while your standing watch in your compartments....RDC's will sometimes come by during the night after taps (2200) to check on the watches and the compartments. They did multiple times in my division!
well i dont think these guys can go in a time machine but im sure if put in the same position they could handle what you handled, thanks for all your service guys!!
Hey dude. I doubt you'll see this almost a year after you commented but ill try anyway. How is it being an AD? What do you do exactly? Do you get deployed? I ask because I got AD and the job description is very vague.
+Nestor Rios I enlisted on July 9th, and every job they offered me was leaving in February too. but another guy I know signed up the same day as me but leaves in March. I don't really know how it works but I'm assuming if you waited a few months you'd be able to leave then
nothing to be nervous about at all. it's not very difficult and I showed up completely out of shape. my best advice is lay low and never ever back talk or get attitude and I promise you'll be fine. It's all about how positive you are about it. plus you'll make someone of your best friends in bootcamp.
thought I'd watch this just for a laugh, I got out of boot just a little over a month ago. I do not miss it at all, and I feel so bad for everyone going through P-Days right now
I went to RTC back in Oct 1 of 96 and it was harder then what this guy is saying. It all depends on you if u want it to be easy or hard. When we met our division commander he walked up to every single one of us and he would try to break you down mentally. He would tell you how long you were gonna last and if you were a quitter! He came up to me and told me that i was only gonna last about 1 to 2 weeks. Well out of the 30 people he stepped up to i was the only one to make it thru. There would be times when i wanted to quit but i didnt want to give the RDC that pleasure! My advise, be mentally and physically prepared but be more mentally prepared!!!!!!
+Ace B That was me! I enlisted April 8, 2015, but before i could do so I had to drop weight. 10 pounds (which is alot). Haha, Goodluck, hope you make it(: Too help, watch your portion control and do little work outs for longer. Don't focus too much on long cardio runs then you'll get tired too quickly and slow down lowering your heart rate. The longer you workout and keep your heart rate up the better. (:
+Miss.SamanthaKay congratulations how do you like it ? and thanks I'll try to . thats the only thing im worried about is the run because i smoke cigarettes 😭 hopefully bootcamp break me from the addiction lol
+Ace B I leave Novemeber 4th so I haven't gone. you'll do fine as long as you push yourself. I'd stop smoking now.. even a day without smoking enhances your breathing.
+Miss.SamanthaKay ty , mind over matter. i plan to quit before i join and have that 2mile run down pack :) we might get the same ship date. i tlk to my recruiter next week and i already know I'll be sent to cold ass Chicago i heard winter bootcamp is the worst. wish you the best , and stay focused 👍
This is so helpful, I'm only 16 but I think about going every day! This will help me prepare for when I'm ready! I really want to become a navy yeoman! I love organizing, and good with people! I really don't mind a desk job! 😊
Nick christians Glad you liked the video! Don't bring any extra clothing, because you do not get to keep it. The first day you get there you either send all your stuff home or donate it
I got screwed over and got my ship date pushed back from September 20th all the way to April 12th. I was so excited to go but I guess everything happens for a reason.
I planned to join the Navy's Nuclear Power Project, and when I learned that we have to go to bootcamp even if all we do is engineering, It caught me off guard. But I won't let that stop me, I have a dream and the navy is necessary for it to come true.
+AnimeNeverSleeps You might've already taken it by now but the ASVAB isn't too difficult. I'm pretty bad with math and still got a 90. Good luck though! The nuclear power project is what I'm hoping to get into as well.
Great video, cleared up a lot of things but I leave December 1st, so jackets & stuff are a no go? & I can't swim so would it be better for me to learn before I go?
Shauna Fulmore Yes, you don't need to bring jackets or any winter clothing because they issue all the gear you will need including winter clothing. You should definitely learn how to swim before because if you don't pass the swim test you're going to be falling behind and you possibly might be set back in training which will delay you from graduating..
Ken Jelly By marching party do you mean the band division? because they still have that you just have to volunteer the first day you get there when they ask if you can play an instrument
Currently trying to lose weight to join the Navy. I just hope that I can lose the weight before this time next year. If I keep getting stuck with my weight, I may need to see if I can get a recruiter to help some and figure out why I'm not losing weight.
@@JonnnyFive, been doing a lot of walking. Most likely I need to do more though. I am almost to my goal for this year, may need to lower the # of lbs to get to by the 31st. A good friend of mine said she may be able to take me to her gym as a "buddy," which would be awesome. May be able to do some weight training as well. Now I'm a bit excited for that possibility.
rbreezzy 94 They don't make you run everyday. You PT once or twice a week and you don't run every PT session. Don't even stress about PT because it's a breeze just make sure you are in a decent shape and you'll be fine.
+Jonathan Roeder You don't have to worry about the running or fitness tests as much but just make sure you are in a decent shape. PFA is mile and a half run, push ups and sit ups. The moment of truth is the last chance for the navy to get information out of you that you "withheld" just keep quiet and sit there you will be fine.
+Shaughnessy Parks Don't worry bro they got you on the cold weather gear aha. Whatever clothes you bring you have the choice to ship it back home or donate it
Jose Martinez I still have my wisdom teeth today aha so I wouldn't be able to tell you about that but I know it does suck but you get like 3 days to recover and all the other shots are nothing
Hey Bru wats the cut off age are the any in boot campThat's 27 or lol over cause I'm still plan for n joining I jus have to take care of sum things and study some for asvab and join
What's the name of the test is he talking about? Can I take that test in the recruiter office or do I take that test at boot camp? What navy history should I study about exactly ?
Can you make friends and talk to your division in boot camp? If so, how so if you're not allowed to talk in front of the RDC'S are you gotta keep your mouth shut?
FilosofoCA Good question, I ended up leaving boot camp with around $800 because you have to pay for all of your clothing and gear that you get. That is automatically deducted from your pay during the 2 months you are there and you are paid way less at boot camp. For sending your stuff home it just depends how heavy the box is.
temper moto Yes, I forgot to mention it. The swim test consists of jumping off a structure then swimming 50 yards. Also a 5 minute prone float. It's super easy if you know how to swim!
+Juanito Sainz Usual time of going to sleep is at "taps" which is at 2200. Waking up is different everyday depending on the schedule/Plan of the day (POD) it can be anywhere from 3 - 6 in the morning.
John Smith Shortly after you get there you get your haircut but apparently they are saying women don't have to get their hair trimmed all the way down but for males we just have to be in regulations.
Jonny Five thanks for the info man!! Im on a weight loss journey because i am enlisting hopefully by the end of next year have alotta wait to lose but informative videos likes yours keeps me more focused and motivated!! Thanks for your service man.
Jonny Five wait.. So is buds a different training course? Seperated from actual bootcamp. I want to be able to go to combat, i still dont know many other jobs in the navy though.
+SB53KTA Yea buds is separated from boot camp but you have to go in with a certain job that's like spec ops or whatever and you do boot camp first and then buds
+ryanzzification Not exactly sure what the exact score for MA is it might be around 60 but I'm not sure. Good pick though and you probably could confirm on the exact score with a recruiter or some research.
+Tylaria Currie They won't let you rank up from E2 to E3 in boot camp unless you get picked by your instructors towards the end of boot camp to get ranked up. The test and pfa only allows E1's to rank up to E2.
+Glushien Hades Yes you're correct on that if you're talking about ranking up in boot camp. Went over my head on that one. And the test is easy, common knowledge if you study before you go in and during the 1st week. Wouldn't say it's easier taking a leadership position. But once you get out of boot camp E1 - E3 is automatic
Yeah, I assumed it was advancement in RTC since its a question on a bootcamp video. In my experience, very few got advanced from the test. Leadership positions got most of the advancement.
Oh okay. I leave in the winter.. i was thinking should i cut it before then. my hair is really curly, so you cant't really see how long it is unless it is straight.
Jackie Johnson I was told by my recruiters that females no longer have to cut their hair, it just got passed about four months ago after they did a test trial and after the test trial they decided females no longer have to cut their hair. This information was given to me by my recruiters so hopefully it is correct.
I went through Navy Boot Camp in 2010. During the first week (p-days) I absolutely hated it. Every second of it! good luck qualifying, you need at least 75-80 on the ASVAB.
+kyle hendrickson
yeah, I heard. Wish me luck
+AnimeNeverSleeps You might've already taken it by now but the ASVAB isn't too difficult. I'm pretty bad with math and still got a 90. Good luck though! The nuclear power project is what I'm hoping to get into as well.
November 10th !! Who's with me !!
I'm from San Diego I just got done with my physical but I'm planning on deping in the beginning of October

As of right now i'm leaving April 6th!
+co nsduob I leave in April too !
I leave on that month also
did they make you run everyday or just the PFA ? i'm leaving in 23 days, don't know what to expect bout the PT's

Best experience I've ever had
Sapphire Franklin still in the Navy?
A couple of things... What about all of the running and fitness tests? Is it something to worry about? And also, what is the Moment of Truth?
+Jonathan Roeder You don't have to worry about the running or fitness tests as much but just make sure you are in a decent shape. PFA is mile and a half run, push ups and sit ups. The moment of truth is the last chance for the navy to get information out of you that you "withheld" just keep quiet and sit there you will be fine.
If you end up talking during moment of truth is it all bad?
Basically if you have something to say during that moment the outcome won't be good if you do
Geez... thanks man! I really appreciate this!
Thank you I just bought the asvab for dummies online I don't know how that can help because the said the is nothing similar in the text
+Oumar Cisse Study from that and then try taking online practice tests
Appreciate the help sir but are allowed to bring thermals. I ship in December this year
+Shaughnessy Parks Don't worry bro they got you on the cold weather gear aha. Whatever clothes you bring you have the choice to ship it back home or donate it
Alright thanks I didn't want to spend more money if I didn't have to
How are the shots? Lol I leave next week and I'm kinda nervous for the shots and my Wisdom Teeth.
Jose Martinez I still have my wisdom teeth today aha so I wouldn't be able to tell you about that but I know it does suck but you get like 3 days to recover and all the other shots are nothing

January 26th 2016, anyone else?
leaving Jan 26 dis vid was helpful i hope i do well with everything
Can you make friends and talk to your division in boot camp? If so, how so if you're not allowed to talk in front of the RDC'S are you gotta keep your mouth shut?
There is a time and place!
good video bro my sister is joining.
is there anything they do for future sailors that go into boot camp as an E3??
+Jamie M As an E3 in boot camp you cannot advance in rank or anything
+Jonny Five will i still need to take the advancement tests???
You still take every test in boot camp regardless but once you get out of boot camp you will eventually take the E4 test towards your promotion
thinking about joining I just need to bring my asvab score up and need to lose about 30lbs
+Troy Ball Just keep at it, put in the work and you'll be good
i went to great lakes in 1980 went on to be a corpsman
Thank you good info.
Glad it was helpful!
My daughter left on 10th of May and we haven't received a letter yet. So we are working on week 2. Is that normal??
+Wes Jackson Yea that's normal
So how much money did you end up leaving boot camp with? How much do you pay to send your personal stuff home
So then my recruiter must be a freaking liar because I asked him and he said about 5k im like how yhe fuck is that possible
FilosofoCA Yea don't listen to your recruiter. That is definitely not possible..
FilosofoCA lmao wow what a lier, even if you go in as an E-3 your not gonna make that much. That recruiter can shove it!
Yeah I'm like this dude is such a liar
My son arrived at Great Lakes May 12th. I haven't received address or letter yet. Should I be worried?
+Wanda Broadnax No you shouldn't be worried, It will arrive unless the address was put in wrong
+Jonny Five Thanks
Sick green screen 😎
Thanks 😎
Can you take an address book? Or will they have you send that back?
Dominique Henderson You can take an address book with you, I just chose to bring a bible and write my info in the back
Oh okay thankyou
Anyone shipping May 17th? just thought I would make friends beforehand lol
I've noticed I was able to talk to my friends shortly after they left. Do people just go out and buy a phone while in training?
during a-school you are permitted a personal cellular device, but in boot camp you have to send it home.
+Michelle Zaragoza You're able to call home on scheduled days but only for a very short period of time
what happened to the lovely haircut?
I would like to join the navy but I'm 25 years old with a high school diploma and some college credits, is that okay?
+Matthew Vang that's perfectly fine.
+Matthew Vang Yea you're good man.
Thanks guys! Just wanted to make sure.
Is there any water test like swimming etc..details please if so. Thanks
temper moto Yes, I forgot to mention it. The swim test consists of jumping off a structure then swimming 50 yards. Also a 5 minute prone float. It's super easy if you know how to swim!
Ok cool yea I love to swim thanks man.
No problem bro, happy I could help
does the ranking up go for someone being an E3. that's what I will be.
+June Hoffman You can't rank up in boot camp as an E3
Okay thanks.
I heard that you can from someone else. Only 10% of the division can though
If you bring a phone, will you have to send it back home?
Yes.
+Sebby Sniper Yes, try to keep your phone at home aha
Jonny Five what about a wallet?
I believe so, it may have changed
What exactly is PFA? i keep thinking it's the physical test
william delgado PFA Stands for physical fitness assessment
What's the bed time and when do they wake u up at?
+Juanito Sainz Usual time of going to sleep is at "taps" which is at 2200. Waking up is different everyday depending on the schedule/Plan of the day (POD) it can be anywhere from 3 - 6 in the morning.
will you be kick out if you don't pass the fitness test
I don't know, I wonder that too, I'm not the fastest runner
Yes you will, I have a video on that as well.
The PRT is easy but if you are unable to pass it you will be kicked out
Did you have to get the salt peter shot in p days
+mclovin indahizzie Peanut butter yea haha
what if you are not good at swimming? please help I leave Sep 6
You'll be put into a separate group of people who don't know how to swim and they will teach you until you pass.
what all do you have to memorize along with the creed?
+Dannie G Rate and Rank recognition, General Orders, Chain of command, and too help i would also memorize some Navy history.

+Jamie Miles Yes, Boot camp is same for everyone
Oh okay
for the girls are we allowed to wear jewelry like rings
i havent taken the asvab test yet.
I wouldn't bring them to boot camp but afterwards yes.
Anyone can help me so I can pass my asvab I really wanna join the navy but the asvab is little bit to hard for me any idea?
+Oumar Cisse There are books that you can buy that will help you study for the ASVAB and you can take the test as many times as you want.
When do they cut our hair?i heard they didn't do that anymore
John Smith Shortly after you get there you get your haircut but apparently they are saying women don't have to get their hair trimmed all the way down but for males we just have to be in regulations.
My ship date is 20160711
Mine is a day after you. Maybe I'll see you lol
was bootcamp like it is in the buds 234 class videos?
+SB53KTA It's nothing like buds lol...
+Jonny Five thanks man really helpful information!
I leave January 18
Theres no
thnks!
Haven't enlisted yet but I'm getting ready too real soon . Anyone knows the score to qualify for MA on the Asvab ?
+ryanzzification Not exactly sure what the exact score for MA is it might be around 60 but I'm not sure. Good pick though and you probably could confirm on the exact score with a recruiter or some research.
+Jonny Five thanks bro !
You need at least a 50
Im enlisted and my job is an MA i scored a 54 on the ASVAB!
+Veronikkaahbabes thanks !
Do you have group showers?
Nevrbetrolled466 Yea hahahah, only in boot camp though. You'll get used to it and you won't care after a while.
when can recruits start sending letters and receive letters?
+katelynn houghton Around week 2 and 3
as we used to say to new boots when they first came to the ship in the old navy is Sailor ,Sailor don't be blue the recruiter he F= ed me 2 : )
If I pass the Dep testing and pfa, can I rank up from E2 to E3?
Ship out 20151201
Thanks
+Tylaria Currie They won't let you rank up from E2 to E3 in boot camp unless you get picked by your instructors towards the end of boot camp to get ranked up. The test and pfa only allows E1's to rank up to E2.
Jonny Five okay thank you Johnny. What job you suggest I pick up to get ranked up?
+Tylaria Currie What job in boot camp? or your rate? For boot camp just any position that requires more work aside from just being in the division
K Thanks and I meant my rate😊
I leave in two days
+Machiavelli Good luck!!
Is the test to ranking up to E2 oral or written?
+Kristian Gevin E1 - E3 is automatic
It's a computer test. Keep in mind only the top scores will get advanced. It's much easier to get advanced for doing a division leadership position.
+Glushien Hades When do you take the test during boot camp?
Do the females have to cut their hair also?
Jackie Johnson They actually don't have to cut it all the way down, it just has to be in regulations
Oh okay. I leave in the winter.. i was thinking should i cut it before then. my hair is really curly, so you cant't really see how long it is unless it is straight.
Women cut it to their chin
Jackie Johnson I was told by my recruiters that females no longer have to cut their hair, it just got passed about four months ago after they did a test trial and after the test trial they decided females no longer have to cut their hair. This information was given to me by my recruiters so hopefully it is correct.
+Chris Finney yeah they had a lot of complaints about females not being prepared to be within grooming regulations when their hair grew back.
no nusrses go through this too??
+Barbie Joy If you're an HM yes you go through boot camp as well
do all navy recruits go to Chicago?
+Marcus Franklin yes
+Marcus Franklin Yea that is where RTC is
Ohh okay thanks!! and after boot camp we go to A school down in Pensacola?
Jonny Five
+Marcus Franklin Your school is based on what job you have so everyone goes somewhere different
Great advice! However, you're so monotone and it's rather annoying lol. No hate though, you're a big help!
You make kids not want to enlist
+Anthony Anadon 😂😂😂
Worst fucking back ground!
Dude you need to work on your advice giving skills, you need to put more of your own experiences in your videos
I leave tomorrow and I'm both hyped and nervous. But, oddly, I'm REALLY excited for the gas chamber.
Get it!!
