Spot on about the farmers; here in Minneasota. I talked to a farmer about some of the issues that were occurring in my own garden this year 2019: 1.Japanese beetles had invaded my garden this year. 2. A white fungus grew on the plants and rotted the food and dried up the plants so no other food could grow. A local Minnesota farmer told me he lost 90 percent of his commercial crop this year; due to those same issues. Fresh veggies and fruits are sky high this fall so if anyone is wondering why the price of produce keeps going up; Well, it's kind of self explanatory. Have a nice day and thank you for this video and all of your efforts. As always, Bless up.
Aaa AAA hey if anyone is spreading propaganda it’s you right now. A tax to breath omg get a grip there are a ton of plans to help and that’s not one. Politics aren’t two sided
Yup for many it means stop everything you're doing - in the past month my relatives would have a combined 20,000k in travel for holidays/work. They think I'm insane as I gave up driving 15 years ago and I don't travel far but even my footprint is still to big as I have to rely on corporations to feed me as all the smaller places are gone. Sadly time is up.
We need a whole new economic system One that does not destroy our planet in the name of profit We can create such a system from within the capitalist one and then out compete the corrupt and evil companies We need to help people from where they are, without force or coercion. Give people access to the information they need, that they can trust and we can use together to solve ALL the connected problems The problems are connected and the solutions need to be too So many people (like extinction rebellion) are doing amazing things, we just need to organize the organizers
@@campbellbamble5138 you can still be within the system and work to change it. Don't give up! What about plant-based nutrition and becoming an advocate for it?
@@spiral-m Odd -- I once had a site doing something similar to what you describe but that was a while ago now. I still remember my excitement when drupal feeds was released and what I could do with it in combination with open street map so it would plot from peoples blogs location - harvest - rainfall - temp et al sadly couldn't get anyone interested. Now of course, it'd be an app or 2 and people would pay for less.. Shrugs...
Keep it up ER, you are inspiring tons of people.. life counts, life is sacred, all sentient beings have a purpose and the right to thrive and jive to this benevolent planet's ever-present tune! Love and good energy from Goa, India
Extinction rebellion, you are informing approx 30/40K views per video ! You need to seriously re think how your promoting these videos,to get your message out ! You could be hitting 100s of thousands daily , good luck ,may the force be with us all !
I was shocked by the low views too! Some obvious and free ways to promote videos is to 1) subscribe or do collaborations with a popular vlogger or channel. 2. find out what the people are searching for regarding climate/eco/migration. What are their search terms? out of those, what is ER interested in covering? You will get more plays because you went to where the crowd's interests are. 3) find your scene/community on YT by subscribing to other channels, ask them to subscribe to ER too. This will help ER titles show up in feeds. 4) make great videos. People have no attention spans, got to work with where they're at.
You really ought to put some timescales on the assembly idea, in line with the sense of urgency. • By which date does the Citizen's Assembly idea need to be publicly agreed to by the Government? • By which date does the assembly need to be commissioned? • By which date does the assembly need to have made it's decisions? • By which date does the Government need to agree to enact the decisions of the assembly? • By which date do assembly arrived solutions need to be put into practice? • By which date do already known solutions need to be put into practice? Without dates, this is just talk which will be ignored by the politicians, as we have seen so far. With dates, you need to have well thought through backup plans. What will you do if each of the dates aren't met? Surely if you believe a Citizen's Assembly is the essential solution then an open, sliding, 'ASAP' isn't a good enough answer. If you want to survive then you need to ramp up the sense of urgency in everyone's eyes.
Earth Poets You are correct, there needs to be a much greater sense of jeopardy in political circles. A quality case needs to be made for an assembly by a certain date then the politicians will be seen to be deliberately delaying if they miss it and we can use that as a direct example to show the people that their elected representatives are playing fast and loose with their very existence. It is definitely time we upped the ante.
@LoveIsLife I think it would also be a good idea for XR to use the expertise they have at their disposal to create an *Extinction Solutions Documentary* . It would show all aspects of the problem in detail and the technologies which currently exist plus the benefits that would come from various levels of application. It would also detail emerging technologies and show the level of investment required to bring them to fruition. It is time to show the way forward and to condemn the politicians for not implementing the easily implementable.
@Donald McCarthy _'Better not to frighten the children and the horses and the ladies.'_ Isn't that exactly what is currently happening? And made even more terrifying by only offering woolly solutions such as assemble a load of people in a room then frighten the crap out of them and hope they act in some as yet undefined manner? _'A little learning may be a good thing in this case'_ If you believe what you say then why are you here rather than in the pub? Or are you? Lol. Mine's a pint 😎. Either you think that Roger is genuine and he believes there are viable solutions to the problem or you think he is lying to us for some perceived form of personal gain. Play your cards mate, which is it?
@Donald McCarthy Ha! Ha! He played the Joker lol - wasn't expecting that card 😎. I'd still be interested in hearing your reading of how XR are playing the situation though - as in my first question to you and with regard to setting dates..
3:40 "The system that we have in the houses of parliament is built in confrontation so they nearly always oppose each other, on principle. Thats how it works. It's set up as two rows of people shouting at each other and that's a disaster!"
Not a criticism but if the music was a bit lower when people were talking it would have been much better. Well done Extinction Rebellion keep up the fantastic work. Hope to be there in October.
I am deeply saddened by these videos. I am a US member of XR and a full supporter so it is not the videos themselves that make me sad. It is the fact that it is not going to be enough. We are locked in at 2.5 C even if all greenhouse gas emissions end today and that is not going to happen. And we are not talking about Gandhi fighting for Indian home rule. We are talking about changing an entire planet's worth of governments, economies, and civilizations. I think full change will happen but it will happen out of necessity after drastic carnage and devastation. We still have many, many communities in my small US state that still dont recycle at all because it is too expensive. This is the type of thing we are up against. You cant fix stupid and people are stupid. Live life to the fullest and apologize to your children. And if you dont yet have kids, dont have kids.
"It is the fact that it is not going to be enough." My mother talks in depth how in the late 1960's and she was 18, they marched against Vietnam, to demand the U.S. clear their waterways, to protect eagles and redwoods, and many more CRITICAL steps. They thought they could change the world. Now, she cries. 50 years later and we are still trying and still dreaming but nothing has changed.
Not until WE THE PEOPLE change our political systems, nothing will change. In the U.S. Bernie Sanders WOULD transform our country and lead the free world in setting the example on fighting climate change. WE ARE TRYING AGAIN.
We just have to hope for the best but be prepared for the worst, because chances are that we will not get this fixed. They say the point of no return is in 10 years, but I think we're already past the point of no return. At this point all we can hope for is damage control, but the fact that millions of people are going to die is inevitable. What will lie on our conscience is that most of them will probably be the ones who are the least to blame for the mess that we're in.
@@sweettony9359 NOBODY as President would do more than Bernie. Most Democrats have very few plans to fight climate change. It sounds like you've spent too little time researching Bernie's proposals. I suggest you do that.
hi polarised society... I agree that proportional rep'n is better than what you've got in the UK, but in NZ we have a system of MMP (mixed member propn. repn.) and whichever way you look at it, it's still politicians and therefore not much better. Representative politicians in reality represent themselves, their party, their primary funders and, for the most part, lastly their electorates. Direct Democracy is the way to go. Good Wishes from NZ
Just a thought. The insect. Kids ask your grandad how many insects used to get splattered on his windscreen when he first started to drive. Then ask your dad the same question then go outside and look at thr car on the drive??
We need a GLOBAL citizens assembly. We do not need to demand it. We can just create one. We only need the technology and then invite the world (we need to be able to have millions of people working together, I have a good idea how this can work) We can create the tech that brings people together and helps us solve these complex problems. We can out compete corporations that are destroying our planet (with shared trustworthy information and "voting" with our dollars on the better solutions we create together) Come help me create the global cooperative that turns this all around, quickly, peacefully while creating a world of abundance for EVERYONE I only need a handful of people who "get" what this can be and then we can cocreate the platform designed for mass collaboration
Thanks. With different dynamics we are discussing slightly differently articulated demands in XR South Africa, but the idea of pursuing evidence based democratic solution is a powerful essence.
Is it possible to create a citizens assembly now and continue to put pressure on the goverment to push through their policies. This would likely help gain more support as the general public will have a bettet understanding of the aim.
The key action is to identify exactly what it is we must stop or change. What is it precisely that creates the problem and threatens the planet? And we should do this while working on how to sustain our way of life.
Take away corporate rights, sack all the corrupt leaders and politicians as we would anyone doing a bad job and end animal agriculture now. We've known for decades the damage that the human industrialised economy is doing. Henry Ford created a Hemp plastic car, running on environmentally friendly fuel back in the 1941! patented it so no one else could manufacture it, what right did he have?! I believe in us, I believe in the Biomimicry Institute, I believe in the Vegan movement.
Sack all the corrupted leaders and politicians and you'll end up with no leader and no politician. Most of the time, the power is the corruption, not the people. Ending animal agriculture is the solution to nothing. It's an inducted lure. Industrial human economy brings us confort and habits we could probably not survive without anymore nowadays. Henry Ford died in 47, I doubt he patented a plastic car in the 50s... he was a big supporter of the nazi regime, btw. Veganism is nothing but an emerging tip of the capitalism iceberg. All the vegan alternatives have in common to lock us even more to the industrial business for food supply. Raising animals and growing plants are the ONLY tools we have to produce anything sustainable at all. And that's to the condition we do both. We'll loose most of our means, we can't deprive ourselves from sustainable solutions for ethical reasons, even if it's a beautiful though. Anyone living on this earth with a sustainable footprint (look south to 80% of the poorest) don't have by any mean the luxury to even consider being vegan. The goal here is for us to give up enough wealth asap so they don't die and we all live by their poor standards, happily ever after. Otherwise, we'll all disappear as a species. You can forget Henry's car, the only one we can afFord in the future is called a horse. Get ready for animal exploitation 2.0. But don't worry, we both know it very unlikely to happen because of the "corrupted leaders and politicians" greed anyway, right?
@@ginabean9434 Apologies, 1941 And ending animal agriculture is the one massive thing anyone can do, as it is the leading cause of environmental damage, let alone immeasurable suffering..why do you think Jair Bolsonaro is clearing the rainforest..why do you think the BLM is rounding up wild horses..it is to make room for cattle to produce meat. Why do you think our oceans have so many dead zones and so little fish left. It will also create a kinder world. When you say about the poorest, are you talking about the tribes who live with the land? I am talking about the western world. And in the western world it is very cheap to be vegan. Our leaders are ill and should be relieved of their positions. Kindness breeds more kindness and those who have a half filled cup would want to share with those who's cups are empty. I was so sad about our planet but I am filled with hope because I believe we can change.
@@Magda-ko6gj _"it is to make room for cattle to produce meat"_ No, it's to feed China. Brazil don't export meat, it exports plants. And China has it all (almost). The cattle is set in place, once the soil is already dead. You are told that cattle EMITS a lot of GHG, but have you wonder where does it come from? Where does the GHG from a car come from? Once you got the difference, you see that breeding is an opportunity, not a burden. Ecologically speaking an animal CANNOT pollute. There's no need to put our manufacturing, energy and transportation pollution on breeding. When I say the poorest, I mean that the footprint of the cheapest western vegan on earth requires several planets to be sustainable. If we want a sustainable life on a 10 billions humans planet, we need to live under this standard, big time.
@@ginabean9434 Please do your research before making such rediculous comments..Animal agriculture is responsible for 91% of Amazon destruction. why not have small meetings for education of the citizens in as many towns as possible. first they need to see evidence up close and as personal as possible. nothing that cost money just a meeting in a church hall or any spare room.
That's been happening for 30 years, with no result. It isn't that XR is against public education - that's why the media is a target of the demand to "Tell the Truth", but that we don't have time. Also if the media around a CA is handled well (like in Ireland), it generates the public education as a byproduct of the process...
XR have been doing talks in community halls since it's beginning. You can see a number of them recorded on here. Look for 'Heading for Extinction and what to do about it' Many, if not all of the local XR groups have been generated by attending these talks.
I hope the XR members will eventually realise that we have to reject the political system completely. They’ve made a good start but we need state COMPLETELY out of the way if we’re going to save ourselves. Extinction Rebellion needs to become Total Rebellion.
We are up against a very strong religion of unlimited expansion and development! As you said, we are trained to adhere to this ideology/religion and live by it every day of our lives all over this planet, so opposing this worldview is extremely difficult. In the past half a century, practically all the people on this planet got converted to this religion. This is why the job we are facing is so difficult. I come from Iran, and the number one issue with our Islamic government is not Islam, but it is the fact that they have been using and destroying all our natural resources, water, forest, soil, etc to the maximum and now the country is at bring of total ecological disaster. Adding to that the Climate change that is very obvious in Iran, one can be sure that there will be no future on this ancient fertile land! I now live in India since a few years, and alas, here, the destruction in the past decades in the name of development is totally massive, and irreversible...
I wonder if we can make use of the fact that now pretty much everyone is literate in video-conferencing to expand citizens assemblies online. Seems like it would be a lot easier to have people gather on their computers than in person
@Xr, It has been mentioned already, but could you please adjust the music to a much lower level ? It's distracting and really makes it harder to hear the message. The human brain is simply not equiped to deal with both music and a spoken message at the same time. those two things start competing, at least at these volume levels. Your message suffers. I don't think that's what you're after. You could also bear in mind that for People on the spectrum (like Greta) , this problem can even be dramatically worse.
This one did not distract me but I think this OFTEN on UA-cam videos. There needs to be a way to lower the back ground music ourselves to make it accessible to people. There is great content that I need to turn off cause it is unwatchable (to me). When we own our own technology company and are LOOKING for ways to improve it for our members, THIS will be a feature.
@@JubileeCreatesSomethingAmazing that would be a great feature indeed. One more thing about this is that these videos are being watched in non english speaking countries as well. Some people might need to listen quite carefully in the first place to fully understand what is being said. Distractions are not helpful in those cases.
I think the citizens Assembly and ER might try being a force in the parliaments of the world with politicians making the voice of the people count where it is needed. There should also be an earth buy-back campaign where the concerned citizens can actually start to buy back the earth from the developers abusing it.

I agree, Brexit should be put aside in favour if AGW. I do hope UK is going to be pandering after USA and Trump. We need more socialism, that is the only way we can work together to resolve this. But if that happens America and the CIA will fund a civil war to destroy UK. If the money spent on arms were spent on dealing with AGW that would resolve many problems.

I'm behind this all the way.but I will be honest here! I come from a background of addiction " I was a drug addict for over 20yrs"! And one of the biggest things I learnt during that time "And this is very common knowledge in the recovery community!" An addict has to have hit rock bottom and the consequences of that person's addiction have become so great that they can't go on using or drinking anymore! But before that they walk around for years in absolute denial about what the problem is and how much damage there doing! And I believe "and I don't think anyone reading this will disagree" that the vast majority of people are addicted to fossil fuels and all its byproducts!so im scared that to get people to wake up and change " and an addict needs to completely change everything about themselves complete para dime shift needs to happen for them to stop and change there destructive behaviour!"so I'm scared that the consequences are still not horrific enough for people to give up there addiction to fossil fuels!!!!!
I know how to create a different economic system from within the existing one!!!!! We create a global cooperative ( an economic system based on cooperation instead of competition) We help people solve their own problems ,together (stop leaving it up to our incompetent government) We gather and share the information we need to understand AND solve the complex problems ( climate change, poverty, scarce resources, cancer, etc etc) We can recreate a supply chain that is ethical and efficient We start small and grow quickly as we create solutions that appeal to everyone (cheap, fast and good, AND ethical) when we are large enough we out compete the competitive capitalist system that is destroying our planet We ask individuals "How can we help one you?" How can we help each other We can do all of this rapidly by creating a tech cooperative that is designed to create the tools we need to do it ALL. It is owned by its members and everyone is invited to be a member. It is run democratically and with complete transparency We can create the ACTUAL SOLUTIONS NOW, together.
I agree, a new system within the old system. The main purpose to make decisions based on saving the earth and humanity. Actually make decisions and take action. I believe that we all could have a voice as long as it works with kindness and real solutions. The old system has failed....
Free community food forests, rabbits for meat, eating pigs trotters etc While food production is out of our individual hands, we start each day as slaves to the system. Food shelter water community waste-> fertilizer systems. Thats 1st stage imo
-Lets run a 6 billions members cooperative with each one have the same right to speak... -Wait, it's not going to work, we won't ear anyone. -OK, then lets delegate some people to bring the most important points on the table and get to an agreement. -But who's going to run the cooperative? -Everybody! -Wait, it needs some coordination, otherwise it won't work. -We'll pick the more able to manage and coordinate the efforts. -Who's going to own the cooperative? -Everybody! Everyone will get an equal share of it. And he'll receive a paper to prove it. But since we don't want to force anyone, one will be able to exchange it for useful services, depending on his own problem. - Shit! We just re-invented democracy and capitalism. We're back to square one. -... Let's start by creating a comity to discuss the possibility of bringing together ideas with the goal of finding solution propositions. I think it's more revolutionary this way. Or if you got any real disruptive idea... because I don't ear a single one in the XR speach.
@@ginabean9434 I like what you wrote in your comment and how you've expressed, compliments, I was thinking just that myself...here we go again! I don't have anything wrong with bringing togetherness to find solution propositions. I have a problem with "Globalism" and "Sustainability" these two words have been used quite loosely by the elites themselves...I would be very cautious. If we demand everyone goes vegan we get nowhere If we ask people "what would help you eat more vegan food?" and then CREATE that we can have an impact without the shame (which makes people not take action we want anyways) If delicious, cheap, and ethical vegan meals where available, at cost . delivered to your door, in every city and people could participate in bringing the cost down ethically (shared labor, remove meat and grain subsidies etc) A LOT of people would choose to eat vegan 80% of the time
You will have to learn to produce your own vegan diet and lead by example. Most vegans seem to think that changing their shopping habits is a revolutionary act! The imported vegan foods that form part of this diet depend on the global trade systems that are not sustainable. Don’t forget that most organic farmers use animal manure for soil fertility so you will have to avoid organic food if you have principles. Therefore you are supporting industrial/ chemical agriculture which is a disaster for the ecosystem... or maybe you are a townie and don’t know much about agriculture?
RH It seems you’re more interested in “owning” the vegan than considering the valid appeal to an accessible and effective action that is within reach for most people. Even if not perfectly vegan, we can ALL reduce meat consumption which is one of the largest drivers of anthropogenic climate change according to the 𝚄𝙽 and IPCC (latest report,2019, chapter 5; p 79).
I appreciate your dietary choices but we cannot demand all the people be vegans. This isn't about making demands. It is about evolving the consciousness of the peoples and discussing things like what we can do to save our planet and our lives. I'm sure vegans will come and speak, but being vegan is not going to stop people from starvation if we can't grow food. Reducing our emissions to zero will include eliminating beef, or at least reducing it radically. I hereby pardon the cows! Cows lives matter! 💖🌧🌧🌧🌍🌎🌏🐂🐂🐂🌍🌎🌏🌧🌧🌧💖
No one expects everyone to switch to a completely vegan lifestyle overnight. We just hope that people take the time to learn and make changes when and where they can and eventually get there. So the change from doing things the non-vegan way to vegan will be gradual for the world, and the current systems in place such as government subsidies for the meat and dairy industries to destroy the planet; would eventually be replaced with systems that would benefit all life on earth, and hopefully prevent us from causing our own extinction.

Take a look at the peninsula of Cornwall and realise that Climate Warming isn’t the first problem to be perceived here - it’s the dirty Tourism Industry and total overdevelopment, without any kind of infrastructure. 3:50 - the video goes into the currently "popular" idea - promulgated also by the MSM at the moment - that the political "system is broken" after referencing Hallam's criticism about a 2 party combative system. The problem with this point of view is that it is fundamentally reactionary in other words right wing in its analysis..... It views "politics" as an inherently progressive force which is broken because it's become too combative. In its current form though, politics is a struggle between workers who create profits and the exploiting classes who steal those profits and turn them into vast wealth. So the politics aren't broken at all, they are spot on, there are two opposing forces in society, the ultra-wealthy and everyone else. It's true we need a system that works for the 100%, but it's clear that the 1% will not deliver that, so the 99% need to take control. That is what parliament reflects - Tory exploiters and Labour revolutionaries (although the LP has been infiltrated by Red Tories over the past decades).

@@Katy-sh3ru I don't believe there is a workable alternative. Anarchism is a nice ideal but unworkable for the same 'self-survival' reason. Short of an unforeseen 'miracle', I believe the human species has outstayed its welcome on Mother Earth. And, it is a matter of opinion and perspective as to the success or failure of previous citizen's assemblies. For instance, that the CA in Ireland, regarding abortion, is a gross failure in my view, in that they , incredibly, decided that somehow it is supposed to be good and wise for females to freely choose to murder their unborn babies in their wombs, rather than for society to ensure the proper sex and relationship education and community safety that is sorely lacking in western society. That particular CA made that awful decision out of their out-dated 'self-survival mechanisms' mindset instead of acting like evolved , compassionate beings.
I understand that climate change is very important - but my problem with everything is that every one is completely ignoring the fact that the world has consistently cooled and heated since its creation. While we are speeding the process up, there's no way to stop 'global warming' eventually the world will heat to devastating temperatures. Shit. Really all we can do is just learn to adapt, we can't stop it. We can't control nature. Call me a nihilist but it's the real truth.
it's not the warming and cooling per se, but how rapidly it happens that causes extinction. Right now we are in the fastest heating period of geologic history
We need the best organised coordinated effort we can produce as a species. and the best coordinated organised effort is that of a democratic government. We need the government we elect to start to use their power to create change. We've not been doing that. We also need the choices we make to be based on the best available evidence properly analysed. That is the scientific model. We need to listen to our scientists. We've not been doing that, You say the groups will be randomly selected, not elected, though you then say this random selection will be corrected by self defining sub-groups. These will be moderated by people of non-specific origin, who will be facilitating things; the level of coercive control is made clear by the suggestion that these individuals will be ensuring equal talking time. You then say this is democracy, though that word itself merely means seized by people. It seems the chosen facilitators, within your organisation structure, will be making the decisions which matter, and they will be as open as the current system is (not at all open). As for participation, without coercion, and without efforts to improve the situation of the low paid long hour worker, how can you expect them to have a voice that is able to be heard in the same way as the wealthier people who own their own small holding and can sustain themselves. The answer, is that those who work 60 - 70 hours a week and need to find time for visits to the foodbank, will not be heard, as they are not heard now. We need to regain control over our government, by voting for those who will work towards the type of equality I am sure is fearful to many of the privileged even within the XR movement. That government needs to have the checks and balances to be changed if needed/ What we don;t need is a system of posh people who will decide they are monarchs in their own sphere and control without any form of democratic oversight.
Yesterday morning as soon as I brought up Climate on a progressive call-in talkshow with a famous host they hung up, disco'd, shut down, tuned out, ran. It is so hard for so many and Darwin suggests those species who don't pay attention and adapt...poof. Gone. Today is the 3rd day another world famous progressive host and producer has remained silent on the question; "Will your town hall on Climate invite the first and now only climate focused presidential candidate? ...the person who sponsored and published Greta Thuhberg when she was just an enlightened, royally pissed off kid striking on a frozen sidewalk with a cardboard sign?" Logically it seems like a no brainer, reflex "Of course." reply; a piece of cake for any progressive producer. But we're more complicated, as is the system and tools we're accustomed to using, and the social and political contracts we're voluntarily bound to...our "nasty" destructive, negligent habits, broken as easily as simply saying "I care about our Earth and the happiness, well being, enlightenment and diversity of my fellow Earthlings. I care about their future.""
I agree with everything that extinction rebellion say, but it is obviously predominantly a bougie movement as it requires an amount of financial capital to do what they are doing. I wonder if there is a way to engage the working class, because that is a necessary step.
We do need to protect the environment and reduce, harmful emissions and reduce consumption. BUT the earth's climate is continually changing, C02 is a trace gas in the atmosphere, 0.04%. Of that 0.04% 97% is produced by nature, 3% of 0.04% produced by human activity. This is the biggest excuse to tax us, start taxing nature as the greatest producer? The earth's climate is continually changing, 10000 years ago the UK was under hundreds of feet of ice, 7000 years ago humans were living on what is now the bed of the North sea, 4000 years ago trees were growing in Greenland, 2000 years ago the Romans were growing grapes for wine in Northumberland! Humans have no control over the earth's climate. The big ball of burning gas known as the sun determines the earth's climate. Humans have no control over the earth's climate, they always have and always will have to adapt to it. We do need to protect the environment but these emotional, harmful protests are misguided and turn people against a generally good cause.
The ability for the oceans to sustain life for what little that manages to evade human predation (around 10% today) also looks rather bleak - at least once this breaker flips. news.mit.edu/2019/carbon-threshold-mass-extinction-0708 Chemical reactions in nature often resemble a breaker switch. An input rises, a threshold is reached and a sudden change in state occurs. Much like the way neural flow across our synapses occurs. In a closed system with known inputs and outputs, no matter the complexity, any input that increases or decreases in a non-linear or exponential fashion can irreversibly change the state of the system when the threshold is met. Consider an apple tree. It could be considered as a closed, finite system consisting of the tree, it’s roots (let’s leave out fungi / micro-biome for the sake of expedience) and the earth in which it lives with a predictable amount of rainfall and temperatures. The tree creates fruit, most fall to the ground about it’s trunk. Some taken off, eaten. Those apples decompose and their nutrients enrich the soil, thus enriching the tree. A simple but balanced movement of energy from one form to another. The system operates in a steady state of flux. Increase or decrease any particular component in this system beyond a certain rate and it will irreversibly change state. The contents will typically die as complexity in the system is reduced. Phase transition is another good way to think about this. The same amount of energy required to melt 1kg of ice at 0 degrees C to produce 1kg of water (phase transition), could be used to raise the temperature of that 1kg of water from 0 degrees C to 79.8 degrees C. Earth existed in a steady state of flux. From ice age to ice age, a cyclical seemingly endless procession. No matter how complex system Earth is, it can still be considered a closed system and all that it comprises is subject to certain universal constants. All of it’s matter exists in accordance with the laws of thermodynamics and entropy for instance. This is all the more significant when you consider the raging, molten core of heat beyond crust and mantle, just beneath our feet. Held in check, despite constant overturning, by the ebb and flow of ice at the poles, cool oceans, moist soil and atmosphere. A healthy balance if you will. This slow procession is conducive to life, understandable given the way natural selection occurs over time. Lose this balance and tip too fast into a changed state and things tend to move rapidly, echo, amplify and runaway chemically speaking. This is not conducive to biological life. A cursory review of our close neighbor should be stark enough warning. It is no coincidence that Venus, a planet once covered by land and oceans of water, tipped its own scales of balance. Now, it’s surface rages at around 450 degrees C with the highest concentration of surface volcanic activity in our solar system. Too far to look, them turn back time to Earth’s own past mass extinction events, of which there have been 5, 4 of which involved rapid warming of the climate. But by today’s standard, these events played out over a vast period of time. The deepest and near total cut into life on Earth - the end Permian event - wiped out around 95% of all life on Earth. It took millions of years to recover complexity in life from that one. Today’s 6th mass - human driven - extinction event is unfolding at several orders of magnitude faster. In effect, no life will keep up with this pace unless humans, in whose hands, the future potential for any continuing life on Earth now rests, take steps. Drastic ones at that. There are many, human induced, inputs in system Earth today that have gone non-linear or exponential. Increasing atmospheric methane levels Increasing atmospheric CO2 levels Increasing atmospheric N2O levels Increasing ocean heat Increasing sea levels Decreasing Cryosphere Increasing global mean temperature rise Decreasing ocean ph levels Decreasing global biodiversity Increasing human population Decreasing permafrost The risk of not paying attention to this and reversing ourselves away from what increasingly look to be ‘closer than once thought’ irreversible changes of state, cannot be understated. The permafrost is thawing at rates 70 years ahead of what not very long ago was considered a safe scientific consensus. Well, actually it’s already thawed, dried and is now on fire. Peat has always been a good source of fuel. 2014 was a pivotal year for understanding the scale and rates of what is now understood to be exponential decay (not linear reductions) in the cryosphere. The GRACE-FO data once available will likely bring more shocking headlines to people’s attention. Some still expect an arctic blue ocean event in September this year. Consider how fast things will move once there is no more phase transition delaying things (not to mention the myriad other self reinforcing feedbacks). Landing safely from this exponential explosion in human life, which entails our consumption of Earth’s other forms of life and resources, as well as our pollution, is now beyond possible. This is now damage limitation, many other species are already functionally extinct, much more life will be lost. But do we really understand, that the rates of change now underway not only signal another mass event - i.e. one leaving some plucky life left, but arguably a near complete event, or sterilization. Vast quantities of moisture are already being lost into the upper atmosphere. Ozone is being depleted again, exposing the planet to more of the damaging radiation. Solar winds start to strip out the remaining atmosphere and its moisture. As soil now dries out, global dieback of green plants is already being recorded, the excess CO2 no longer the boon we once hoped. Record drought and fires rage all around the globe, exacerbated by our own land use. Crucially, in some of the last remaining great carbon sinks - the solutions to our predicament (biodiversity and mass) slip through our fingers like grains of sand. As our crust becomes dry and brittle, it snaps and cracks, no longer constrained under the weight of the cryosphere. Record numbers of earthquakes are now being recorded in sensitive areas such as Alaska, BC and elsewhere. The ground already hollowed out from excess water usage, drilling and fracking literally shakes beneath our feet. The core wants out.
I'm sorry to say that your daughter will not reach fifty six. There may be a few thousand (lucky?) people left in fifty years. Spot on about the farmers; here in Minneasota. I talked to a farmer about some of the issues that were occurring in my own garden this year 2019:
1.Japanese beetles had invaded my garden this year.

We will be in Berlin!
We need a whole new economic system
One that does not destroy our planet in the name of profit
We can create such a system from within the capitalist one and then out compete the corrupt and evil companies
We need to help people from where they are, without force or coercion.
Give people access to the information they need, that they can trust and we can use together to solve ALL the connected problems
The problems are connected and the solutions need to be too
So many people (like extinction rebellion) are doing amazing things, we just need to organize the organizers

Some obvious and free ways to promote videos is to
1) subscribe or do collaborations with a popular vlogger or channel.
2. find out what the people are searching for regarding climate/eco/migration. What are their search terms? out of those, what is ER interested in covering? You will get more plays because you went to where the crowd's interests are.
3) find your scene/community on YT by subscribing to other channels, ask them to subscribe to ER too. This will help ER titles show up in feeds.

Earth Poets Great idea! Let's hope the rebel ears are listening :)

Peter is a legend. Look at his Flat-pack Democracy work in Frome. Truly inspiring
@@occamsrazor5376 Bernie is great but him as Pres will barely register on this issue. Much too little, far too late.

hi polarised society...

We need a GLOBAL citizens assembly.
We do not need to demand it.
We can just create one.
We only need the technology and then invite the world (we need to be able to have millions of people working together, I have a good idea how this can work)
We can create the tech that brings people together and helps us solve these complex problems. We can out compete corporations that are destroying our planet (with shared trustworthy information and "voting" with our dollars on the better solutions we create together)
Come help me create the global cooperative that turns this all around, quickly, peacefully while creating a world of abundance for EVERYONE
I only need a handful of people who "get" what this can be and then we can cocreate the platform designed for mass collaboration

Animal Rebellion X Extinction Rebellion!
Thank you . An amazing and informative video and very moving 💚xx
@@ginabean9434
Apologies, 1941
And ending animal agriculture is the one massive thing anyone can do, as it is the leading cause of environmental damage, let alone immeasurable suffering..why do you think Jair Bolsonaro is clearing the rainforest..why do you think the BLM is rounding up wild horses..it is to make room for cattle to produce meat.
These fires have been intentionally set by farmers to raise cattle or grow grains to feed cattle. why not have small meetings for education of the citizens in as many towns as possible. first they need to see evidence up close and as personal as possible. nothing that cost money just a meeting in a church hall or any spare room.

Absolutely hilarious video
We create a global cooperative ( an economic system based on cooperation instead of competition)
We help people solve their own problems ,together (stop leaving it up to our incompetent government)
We gather and share the information we need to understand AND solve the complex problems ( climate change, poverty, scarce resources, cancer, etc etc)
We can recreate a supply chain that is ethical and efficient
We start small and grow quickly as we create solutions that appeal to everyone (cheap, fast and good, AND ethical) when we are large enough we out compete the competitive capitalist system that is destroying our planet
We ask individuals "How can we help one you?" How can we help each other
We can do all of this rapidly by creating a tech cooperative that is designed to create the tools we need to do it ALL. It is owned by its members and everyone is invited to be a member. It is run democratically and with complete transparency
We can create the ACTUAL SOLUTIONS NOW, together.
I agree, a new system within the old system. The main purpose to make decisions based on saving the earth and humanity. Actually make decisions and take action. I believe that we all could have a voice as long as it works with kindness and real solutions. The old system has failed....
Free community food forests, rabbits for meat, eating pigs trotters etc
While food production is out of our individual hands, we start each day as slaves to the system.
Infact, I heard some things about this movement and I am not 100% sure of their full integrity...it can very well be another trap by the elites to prevent the awakened from finding the real solution.
I don't have anything wrong with bringing togetherness to find solution propositions. I have a problem with "Globalism" and "Sustainability" these two words have been used quite loosely by the elites themselves...I would be very cautious. Having said that, I do think that authentic humans should join together to find an harmonic way of life that reflects us as authentic humans vs. a system that doesn't.

I hope everyone in this is vegan. The biggest impact with the least amount of effort is to switch to a wholefoods 100% plant based diet.
If we demand everyone goes vegan we get nowhere
If we ask people "what would help you eat more vegan food?" and then CREATE that we can have an impact without the shame (which makes people not take action we want anyways)
If delicious, cheap, and ethical vegan meals where available, at cost . delivered to your door, in every city and people could participate in bringing the cost down ethically (shared labor, remove meat and grain subsidies etc) A LOT of people would choose to eat vegan 80% of the time
You will have to learn to produce your own vegan diet and lead by example.
RH
It seems you’re more interested in “owning” the vegan than considering the valid appeal to an accessible and effective action that is within reach for most people.

"We're 50 years late" damn 😧
Actually, this battle stared a little over 50 years ago. Remember the 60s movement when everyone turned into an activist? The hippies started opening co-ops all over the United States they knew that all this plastic was not good for us or our environment and
at these neighborhood co-ops they sold everything in huge bins and customers brought their own containers. Also the hippies befriended the native Americans and begain learning how to live in harmony with the Earth. Take a look at the peninsula of Cornwall and realise that Climate Warming isn’t the first problem to be perceived here - it’s the dirty Tourism Industry and total overdevelopment, without any kind of infrastructure. Our coastal footpaths are eroding due to foot traffic and not the tide. Water quality off our coast has plunged due to constant sewage overflows. Look at our Green Duke - Prince Charles is rapidly signing off, every possible deal to make a Brythonic People extinct, yet we’ve been ignored! Cornwall is being suffocated in concrete and tarmac, being made some kind of a Hedonistic Playground. Look at Cornwall Council’s record - the Incinerator at St. Dennis, getting into bed with Branson and Newquay Airport ... How does a London Operation like Boardmasters get an award for sustainability for what it inflicts on Cornwall? In areas of Cornwall the traffic pollution is equal to that of areas of inner London ... How many Extinction Rebellion followers bought a ticket for Boardmasters, Newquay Cornwall this year? Can someone take a look at Cornwall’s Sustainability Awards ... This is about Agenda 30 and the U.N.
Cornwall is run by Prince Charles - he signs off on everything in Cornwall and yet questions pertaining to this are not permitted in Westminster?
The Citizens Assembly process cannot achieve what XR is after ... the coming together of the national population to really solve climate change. (Actually we need the global population to come together.) But we can achieve this using the Wisdom Council Process. And we don't need the permission of government to start. ..
Yes to citizen's assembly BUT IF it is indeed a random and proportionally representative demographic, then we are still probably fucked, the majority of humans still being stuck in the out-dated 'self-survival' mindset.
If you do more research on Citizens Assemblies that have already happened, you may change your mind.
@@Katy-sh3ru i understand your comment. The difference this time is the absolute urgency and fundamental, existential nature of that for which a citizen's assembly is intended.
@@ladyfaye8248 - sure, but what's the alternative? Also, if previous Citizens Assemblies haven't been regressive and self serving, why do you imagine this one would be?
That particular CA made that awful decision out of their out-dated 'self-survival mechanisms' mindset instead of acting like evolved , compassionate beings.
ua-cam.com/video/CaoipNcrIGg/v-deo.html a song for the moment!
We've not been doing that,
You say the groups will be randomly selected, not elected, though you then say this random selection will be corrected by self defining sub-groups.
As a whole, humankind is too selfish and lazy to avert the coming disaster.

The funny thing is the rich 1% thinks they'll be ok lol. Who will make your products do the real work you've never done in life.
The ability for the oceans to sustain life for what little that manages to evade human predation (around 10% today) also looks rather bleak - at least once this breaker flips.
news.mit.edu/2019/carbon-threshold-mass-extinction-0708
Chemical reactions in nature often resemble a breaker switch.
Increasing atmospheric methane levels
Increasing atmospheric CO2 levels
Increasing atmospheric N2O levels
Increasing ocean heat
Increasing sea levels
Decreasing Cryosphere
Increasing global mean temperature rise
Decreasing ocean ph levels
Decreasing global biodiversity
Increasing human population
Decreasing permafrost
The risk of not paying attention to this and reversing ourselves away from what increasingly look to be ‘closer than once thought’ irreversible changes of state, cannot be understated.
This doesn't look radical or grassroots at all, it looks completely manufactured and dreamt up by a marketing firm
