"if you have a few recipes you are good at, a few to lean on and you are generous enough to share them you may have an impact on someone that lasts forever." This is exactly what I hope to achieve some day! Food deserves to be shared and passed on in my mind.
It's so beautifully put!
@GoMathewVideo you know where thats quote from?
@@MrOz3lotif you are saying that this quote was taken from some place other than this video I am not sure. This was the quote from the end of this video @ 4:26
I really like this lads enthusiasm, it inspires and food is a positive flow of creative energy. Get in that kitchen folks and spread the love.
And he is so DAMN HANDSOME 😂
I absolutely love how you talked about context and how this wonderful woman who barely ever made you any food had a huge impact on you with just one simple sandwich. Food does not need to be complex to change a life
Memories of my dad. He used to make something like this for his lunch. Sometimes fried, sometimes cold. But I'd have something too and just pause and maybe talk a bit. RIP Dad. Thanks, Stephen for reminding me of some good times.
Aww so sweet, hugs.
I love this channel. I'm from LI and my father is 100% Italian, but my mother is Irish and English. So while there was plenty of Italian food in the house, because my mother is an adventurous cook and we live on LI, it wasn't exactly like Nonna made if you feel me. Watching this channel (and a few others) I have learned all the tips and tricks that elevates Italian food and shared it with my family. Now when I visit home, my mother and I cook together and she learns something from me! It's a great bonding experience that has made me feel closer to my family. No better feeling than when I made a bolognese for the first time and my father said it reminded him of Sundays when he was a kid.
The intro story about this sandwich was so sweet, thank you for sharing that!
For anyone without weights, you can make a v shaped cut to keep the meat from ballooning as it cooks. That's what your diner does for Taylor Ham.
You expressed beautifully the nostalgia one can have for a dish that might not have won any awards but which you hold close to your heart. My late aunt was not a great cook, but she used to fry Hebrew National salami in the pan with a splash of olive oil, get them crispy, and then pour three beaten eggs into the pan and watch them get fluffy. It was the best scrambled eggs and salami I’ve ever had, and I still think about them all the time.
Short & Sweet, from the heart, maybe the best.
“You may have an impact on someone’s that last forever”
Well said
This was a classic growing up in my Italian American household.
My mom used to make fried salami and egg sandwiches. I can taste and smell it through the screen.
Have a great trip Steve!!!! Looking forward to seeing you again soon!
Pepperoni and Cooper Sharp on Italian bread. My fav!
Man beautiful words at the end. Always inspiring and showing us the meaning of cooking
My thing in Jersey from the morning food truck was Taylor Ham, egg, and cheese, butter, salt, pepper and ketchup. But this is something special and different. Thanks for this one, and I have Taylor Ham and also Genoa Salami in the fridge or freezer.
My husband always says the simple dishes are the best. This grilled cheese certainly proves him right.
Your face and eyes during that cheese pull 👌
My best friend in school in the 4th grade lived up the block. Her mom made the best grilled cheese in a cast iron skillet. I’m 44 now & that always remains with me 💛. I will be trying this. Thank you 😊
Bro! That cheese pull was sick!
Definitely want more stories like this. I have quite a few dishes that hold a special place in my heart for similar reasons. Food really is a beautiful thing
Youre the only youtube creator that gets a like on literally every single video. Youre stuff is great!
And easy solution to avoid the salami from “cupping” and to have it lay flat is to cut slits on edges of the salami. It’s a little trick I learned from frying baloney back in the day. 🍳🐷👨🏽🍳😊
I learned that from watching Taylor Ham fried sandwich videos, haven't made one yet lol, but soon.
I think he was aiming for cuppage to make them more conducive to stacking.
new watcher here: kudos to the channel for such a great show
Food that brings back a memory, great concept! Still can taste certain foods eaten years ago. Thanks for your easy to follow videos!
Thanks for the response! I enjoy recreating some of your recipes and get compliments from family & friends with the outcome, "keep on keepin on!" Bruno from Chitown@@_NotAnotherCookingShow
Cold salami and plain bread is instant nostalgia trip for me.
A cold baloney sandwich on white bread (maybe with a slice of American cheese) will instantly transport me to fourth grade 😂
You’re an incredible storyteller
This was definitely an after school snack growing up in the 80’s but we had Wonder Bread 😅
Awesome can't wait to try. Thanks from Cleveland
This is the first vidis seennof yours I've seen , but holy swiss melts ... imma hang around after the suggestion. Ciao my friend!
Bro! Congrats on the nutribullet commercial! Just saw it tonight! Badass!
I love the context behind this recipe and video. Cooking and food can be such a wonderful memory. It definitely takes me back to a simpler place in my life.
spicy genoa salami sliced thin is the greatest thing ever, on its own, on pizza, sandwiches, cooked, or uncooked. beautiful. I don't even eat pepperoni anymore because of it.
Hey bud,
Great message at the end of the video. You don't need to be the world's greatest cook, just care about what you're doing and share it with the ones you love. Beautiful message.
Nice homily at the end, encouraging everyone to share with each other and impact for positivity. Grazie!
Oh yes, I'm going to try this sandwich, too!
Killer closing on the beauty of sharing food. The sandwich is begging for an occasional dip in a balsamic vinegar or glaze, can't wait to try!
Yes! Although I was also thinking of a shot of Tabasco, or even a sun-dried tomato. But who are we kidding? This is probably perfect as is 😂
He never sleeps, the judge. He is dancing, dancing. He says that he will never die.
Loved the chat about food and nostalgia and how anyone can blow you out of the water with one simple recipe.
My dad taught me to make a fried salami grilled cheese when i was young and have always loved them. I will randomly get a craving and there is no fighting it lol. Personally I always loved them with just the classic gooey nostalgic yellow American, but this looks fantastic too! Looks like I'm picking up Salami on the way home.
Love his channel, his videos are awesome. 👍😎🍷
I loved making this sandwich.
Thank looks great, Stephen.
Eating some Boar's Head Genoa Salami right now, goated cold cut. Love the message at the end, couldn't ring any more true, great vid!
I always made this. !!!!! It’s delish !!!!
Love your recipes ❤️
This sandwich is my childhood. My dad would always have Genoa salami and American cheese in the house and I’d make it on weekends. I can always go for this sandwich, breakfast lunch dinner or snack
Love the story!! Looks delicious 🙌
Oh man, this sounds amazing. Can't wait to try it... dood!
U dang right appreciate ya brother 😊
This looks great!
This video is one of your best yet! Love your philosophy on food!
This looks so delicious, yet simple! 👍👍
Love your attitude!!
This looks amazing. My dude, use provolone instead and add some italian seasoning. Amazing. I make something similar to this often to try to replicate a small shop I used to get a similar sandwich from.
Awesome story and message behind the dish. I can't wait to make it.
im going rye bread, peppered salami, white cheddar and ancient mustard on mine. great idea.
that sounds amazing
Looks delicious 😊
So glad you fell in Love with Cooking all over again! ❤ Be Safe in Italy, can not wait to see your content from there too. Vai a nutrirti Mangia bene
God bless you, a great sandwich, a great story. I never thought of frying the salami.
...As a lover of Salami and dry sausage charcuterie in general, I have to say that FRYING the salami is a genuine game changer.
Amazing story.
I had a friend in the 6th grade and one day she invited me to go home with her - we stopped by the ladies' underwear/nighgown factory near our school to say hi to her mom and then we went home to her Nana, who was making fried zucchini blossoms which were something that I'd never had before. Ever. They were amazing. The next memory was of my Dad, who would cook for us sometimes - again, he was not always home but when he was, there was all sorts of magic at the stove. the one I remember most is his way of making burgers, which involved shaking a good amount of kosher salt into a heavy frying pan and while that was heating up, he'd finely chop an onion and mix it in with pepper and chopped beef, make patties and then fry them up in the now red-hot frying pan. I have never had a burger that tasted like that one, EVER - and he'd always serve them on toasted kosher rye.
Thank you. Great food is made even better when seasoned with memories of youth!
Re-creating a sandwich from childhood 😊😊😊lovveeed it
Fried salami is under rated.
That cheese pull 🤤🤤🤤
Wonderful story and of course enjoy Italia
Love this. I do proscuitto, mozz, fig spread.
Well said ❤
That looks so cheesy and good! 🧀🧀🧀🤤🤤🤤🤤
yummy looking!!!
Amen brother!!!
We have this classic where I live. It's basically a fried mortadella and cheese sandwich. The thing is: it's an OBSCENE amount of mortadella. We build like 5~10 slices of mortadella, then a few slices of cheese in the middle, and then 5~10 more slices on the top. Fry everything and when the cheese is melted and the mortadella super fried, put it inside a very crispy baguette. It's crazy good, but you can die at anytime eating it lol.
That looks amazing, I'm gonna make one ASAP To your point about food bringing people together, I was an unusually athletic white boy in a a mixed area and most of the guys on the football and basketball teams on which I played were from poor areas. I remember 8-10 kids piling in our station wagon back in the day and my Mom would drive them home after practice every day. We were decently well off for the area and my Dad made an adjustable basketball goal and they'd walk for miles to come play all day from sunup until sundown.
Around lunchtime, my Mom would make a bunch of hotdogs and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and we'd all chow down. It wasn't until years later after high school that I ran into some of them and they told me that my Mom and our family saved their lives and that they were eating ketchup on bread at home. Three of them ended up playing D1 basketball and one of them ended up making it to the show and played for the Pirates and Blue Jays for awhile.
Oh man, these days because I’m old, I’d chop those grilled salami slices up. That way the salami doesn’t get eaten in the first bite because it wants to stay one slice lol. Thus guaranteeing salami and cheese in every bite.
This is beautiful! I do almost the same, but I use mortadella. Either way, it's going to be good!
I used to make this as well. didn't learn from anyone. just seemed like a tasty idea
I used to say “I’ve got a guy” when bringing a great grilled cheese to the table. Great to see it back on the channel!
Edit: food is a beautiful thing
I would also recommend using prosciutto for this
Delicious
Try fried salami on a toasted bagel with some cream cheese. Love the videos!
I enjoyed the story and that does sound bomb lol
Toasties!… Albertan here, who’s neighbour is Irish. She pumps us full Irish coffees and toasties (open faced cheese melts, usually tomato, or whatever the fridge has..lol. So I hang with her family and neighbours.. she serves everyone. Usually happens around 2 or 4 am
Great recipe ...btw where are those weights, I would want to pick them up. Thanks
That’s great! I like toasted sandwiches, but don’t eat much salami. I’ll buy some and make me a sandwich just like this one. Thank you.
I like to do a similar sandwich. Bakery by me has a really good cheese bread that I like to use and toast both sides. Then fried salami, back bacon, mustard, American cheese slices. Lately I've been shaving some parm in there, or doing a fried parm crust on the outside. Oh man, I'm gonna go make one now.
I would like to see more recepies like that, there are to many over compicated recepies. They look good and taste deliciouses but sometimes u want some easy idea for a meal, so u dont have to wonder where to find some products.
great video buddy
A sandwich that exists without my knowledge exists without my consent.
This is crazy!
I literally just did this before watching. Lightly fried the salami and rendered it's fat.
Then REHEATED a smokey thin sliced chicken breast in that salami fat.
Layered them with provolone cheese on grilled bread.
When I make bolognese, I use toasted salami instead of guanciole, it's about 1/4 the price.
Reminds me of when my mom use to make fried bologna grilled cheese lol.
Looks tasty ! Gonna have to try making that. I always thought it was pronounced 'sangwich'...so I asked Alexa to spell sangwich. What the heck! Learn something new every day.
Ohhh hahaha honey, I’ve been making fried bologna sandwiches since I could reach the stove. Lol. Shoot this tho this looks mighty tasty. I’d do half the amount of cheese and use sourdough all day long. For some reason anytime I’ve tried the ol’ mayonnaise in replace of butter it turns out tasting like rancid oil and ruins the entire thing. So I’ll also be going for butter instead. Seems like a great trade off in calories too lol. Thanks for sharing and reminding us of the simple recipe we all have up our sleeves
RESPECT to this man for callin it Taylor Ham and not Pork Roll. Thank you.
I got this done with reaL italian bread & salami, grande
This reminds me of a fried baloni sandwich. I've got some Hungarian salami and white cheddar cheese, so I'll be using that to try this.
The song is Pork Roll Egg and Cheese (by Ween). It makes for a much better title. :)
How many times do we need to have this BASIC conversation? ANYTHING OTHER THAN CHEESE on a grilled sandwich makes it a MELT! FFS man!
I used to make the same but without the mayo on the outsides
My godfather/boss never really eats vegetables but him and his wife heard that i make a really good sauteed broccoli dish. I showed him how to make it a couple years ago and he still brings up how much he makes it. I think he eats it more than me at this point.
We do this! I slit the meat 3x to avoid cupping
