Hi VeeFour & Stephen Spiteri: Thanks, VeeFour I love your channel, it has kept me sane this year. Have played your videos over and over again. I think I know the narration as good as you do. Have received over 6 feet of snow this year, very bad winter for U.S. Kept asking myself how you can ride in the “Winter”, well I now see that we call the season by the same name, but the results are much different. Kind of like your results better. All the best to you Veefour (Dave). Stephen you have made me very envious of you, I think I am an anglophile at heart. The Locations you listed are my dream locations to visit. Hope you get a chance to visit Ireland as well. I have never been there, but it looks so beautiful. Have seen videos on UA-cam of the “Ring of Kerry”, just incredible. Hope you enjoy yourself this coming year in your travels, be safe.
Great video! I had one of the first FZ-09s in 2015 and loved it! Sold it because I thought I wanted a larger machine so got a 1290 SuperDuke R. I love that bike for different reasons but always missed my FZ-09 but was not disappointed with SuperDuke. So, this past week I purchased the MT-09 again and am keeping the 1290. 09 is unique for so many reasons which were covered in this video. I considered the street triple but the looks just don't appeal to me, especially that headlight that overhangs for no apparent reason.
Glad to see you were not injured in your spills and your bikes only received minor damage. Congratulations on the new bike, looks great. Enjoy your channel very much, great reviews, good detail in your narration, and beautiful scenery. Would love to see you do a review on Zero DSR electric motorcycle. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts and review of an electric motorcycle, coming from a person with your knowledge and riding experience. Would also would love to see you do a touring video of Wrynose and Hardknott passes. Love looking at your beautiful British country side. Love your channel, hope you have a great riding season, stay safe.
Minnesota Vikings, I share your thoughts too. Do love Britain and it’s scenery. In fact I make it a point to come and ride for a few days every summer in different parts of the country. I’ve since been to Wales, Scotland and south west England which is absolutely beautiful. I’m doing Wales again come June. Love it!
I would love to try the Zero as I'm quite open to the whole electric bike thing, plus they're torque monsters by all accounts, so if I can find a way to make it happen I will. The last time I saw Hardknott and Wrynose was from the saddle of my push bike during the 2014 Fred Whitton Challenge, so you've inspired me to return but this time with an engine under me
He's right about there not being a bad bike made nowadays ,just last month I tested 4 bikes over 2 days ,the MT-09SP, KTM 790, Triumph street triple R and RS. after a lot of thought and arguing with myself I opted for the Street Triple R but I wouldn't be unhappy with any of the 4 bikes, it boiled down to both Triumphs were undoubtedly of a higher standard and were much less flighty than the Yam and KTM, the KTMs feather light but lacks grunt ,something that the MT-09 has in spades but just lacks the refinement of the Triumphs. as for the choice of the R over the RS, if you do a lot of track days the RS would be the pick but as a road bike the R was my choice plus it's torquier than the RS.
Love your review of the MT-09 SP and consequently also had the same dilemma of choosing between this and the Street Triple RS, after going o JT's Motorcycles in Swansea the decision was made and the deposit has been paid to pickup my new bike on Thursday 7th June. Cant wait and keep up your long term review of this amazing machine.
Your 765 RS video was one of the main influences in me going ahead and buying one. It is my first non sportsbike after almost twenty different superbikes and gsxr 750s and its the best motorcycle i've ever owned. The one thing i'll admit it lacks is the looks do nothing for me but then i could say the same of all non-sportsbikes as thats just the way i'm wired for better or worse. As soon as i swing my leg over and actually ride the thing though its absolute biking nirvana! Not really super surprised you went with an mt9 sp as it seems a cracking bike for the money. If it were between the SP and a similarly priced 765 R i think i would have probably chosen the yamaha myself but as it stands the 765 RS for an extra £900 is a clear step up in quality and equipment (as you admit) and handles better by all acounts than the SP, which in layman's terms qualifies it as the better motorcycle in my opinion. Sounds like i'm trying to justify my purchase but just thought i'd add my thoughts! Have fun with the new bike Dave, its a cracker and i look forward to watching more videos in the coming months! Speedwobble
Jonathan Whitelaw, I honestly think that if you’re a quicker rider getting off sportbikes and get your joys for being fast and smooth in your ride then you’re better off with an RS. I really think you made the right choice. If however you are a bit of a hooligan, or feel like one sometimes, then the MT would fit the bill nicely. It’s like you’re either a Porsche guy or an American V8 muscle car guy. Both are fast and desirable but they suit different types of people. You just need to be honest with yourself and see what suits you most. As said, there is no better bike. All do well enough for our needs.
The RS in my opinion is basically a naked 765 Daytona and hits the absolute sweet spot of power to weight and handling. I wish I could have bought both
765 R makes more power and torque below 10,000 rpm everywhere, as compared to the RS. Yet the RS has the premium suspension and M50 brakes. Take your pick I guess.
I have had my 17 MT-09 for over 12 months now and loving it more than ever. I have had it tuned/remapped with auto blipper and cruise control, stripped to 182kgs fully fueled, ohlins suspension, carbon wheels and new seat and pegs to suit for my bigger size. It has to be close to the perfect road bike. I can highly recommend getting it tuned and remapped.
I'm in love with this Mt 09 sp I wish you have only good times with it... And you have right the life is too short.... If I'm lucky I have my sp in a month.... I like your videos sir keep going
The Yamaha. I wouldn't have to think. Great roads and scenery. Yorkshire? I'm from North Yorkshire, but I'm so glad I live in a warm country now. Watching this made me shiver. Great video. I have subscribed.
I went from a 15 MT09 to a S1000r. Did you try the standard MT09 against the SP. Im curious how much the suspension has improved the feel as the riding position keeps the weight off the front. I also had a 13 street 675R which I liked but never loved. I preferred my daytona 675. S1000R is hard to beat. Only things I dont like is the linked brakes and hero knobs on the pegs which I took off as they would catch the top of my boots. SPs land in Oz this month, it was very popular at the sydney bike show..
MidLifeBiker I've only ridden the SP in the MT09 evolution, so I have no direct experience of the improvements in suspension and can only be guided by previous reviews. However, now that mine is run in and shod in decent Rosso 3 rubber, I can say that the suspension really impresses me as the bike just feels very responsive to rider inputs whilst giving a comfortable yet firm ride. I know what you mean about the light front end feeling, but I'm quite liking it as it adds the the bike's hooligan character. I've only ever ridden the RR in the S1000 line up, but I liked it a great deal, and the S1000R would be very high on my wish list should I ever return to a 1 bike for all jobs situation 👍
VeeFour I took my MT to the track and it was a blast. I was on oem tyres which arent great and was probably part of the reason I had no feedback from the front, just had to trust it. There is a roughness to the MT that I havent found in another stock bike so know why you bought it. The S1000r is the trophy wife for corporate events and the MT is your dirty weekend and with the SP, now has some polished nails and lippy haha Enjoy!
Over here in the US, we don't have the option for the SP. Do I was really trying to choose between the regular FZ-09 and the Street Triple RS. The price difference here between those models is more like $3000 or $4000. It makes it a pretty easy choice, because I've got a couple grand in suspension and the FZ is going to be a lot of fun.
Im a relatively new rider had license nearly 1 year, 30 years old got late into bikes but im here now, had a mt07 soon as i passed really enjoyed it and recently bought a 2014 gsxr 600, had it 2 months and i miss mt07 i have to ride the gsxr differently to enjoy it and too fast in my opinion to exploit that engine so im thinking of going back to the dark side, its probably mt09 sp or mt10 maybe not sure if its too much for my skills and ability. Im a big chap 6ft2 18 stone at times would i suit mt09? Im sure its more than quick enough i think1000cc i could enjoy on mway yes but in the twistys mt09 more exploitable, how you finding this quick enough? Thank you
Oh its PLENTY fast enough and has all the power and torque you'll ever need for any situation. The 10 has considerably more power all over the place, which can be very alluring, but powerful 1000cc sportsbikes and super nakeds need to be treated with respect as they can bitch slap you if you dont. 1000cc bikes are also much more expensive to run, with high insurance premiums and lousy fuel ecconomy, whereas bikes like the MT09 are much cheaper to run and are as much fun as a weekend pass to the playboy mansion. Try testing them both back to back, MT10 first then the 09 and you'll see. Good luck
Good advice. Get what ya want. Because life is too short. Amen to that. Problem is, I live in the states and the "SP" is not available here ! Damn, I really want that one , with the Akropovic full system
So many riders in the US and Canada asking for it. I don't know what Yamaha are thinking but they're seriously missing out on a factory worth of sales 🤔
Your Striple review from last year is one of the reasons I bought mine last month 😂. It's an absolute blast but I'm afraid I'll be getting pulled over far more often than I did on my DRZ. Winter just won't piss off over here in New England, though... seriously considering a relocation just because I can't stand these winters anymore.
Dave Crehan Like I said there are no wrong choices here and it was a very very close run thing between the two for me. Winter just wont end here either, but you're going to have so much fun on that triple when it does. Ride safe 👍
I've seen video footage of the new quad-beam-led MT-09 at night, and it's a terrible illumination footprint. I'd personally swap it for a 7" diameter bucket with some modern reflector element in it.
Your experience may vary. I don't see it as "filling" of the road ahead as it could be. Like looking through a mail slot. ua-cam.com/video/kzROoU1Ta04/v-deo.html
waiting for the SP to hit Oz....as soon as we get 'em....I'm all over one! akrapovic carbon, tail tidy and rad guard straight from the shop...drooling watching you ride this!
D Murray I'm not sure how a tail tidy will work as the arm that holds the rear fender forms part of the left hand chain adjuster, and I didn't like the look of the Yamaha catalogue one. I'll be looking for an after market one myself 👍
they have them ..the kits come out with a block that's identical to the other side...man those arms are bloody heavy..so getting rid of it is better for handling and also weight saving...its only a few kilos, but it is what it is..my mate has a 2017 model...same set up already done! looks so much better...well here in Australia is does as our number plates are much smaller than yours ...
D Murray Oh and another thing that I forgot to mention on the vid, you might want to consider swapping out the factory OE tyes as they are rock hard and I found them to be a bit sketchy. I swapped mine after 10 miles for a set of Rosso 3's which are vastly superior, plus I sold the OE Bridgestones on Fleabay for 100 quid 👍
the rosso 3's are sweet my younger brother has them on his 2017 brutale 800 ...yes great bit of advice ..i might look at swapping them out before i ride it out... cheers
I actually went to local dealer today rode the mt09 it feels so quick at normal speeds that front end gets light very quick, i felt like i was sliding into tank but it felt so chuckable, when i go to actually do a deal i will try the mt10 but after riding mt09 that felt quick enough i think 10 may be too much, ps i rode standard 09 they didnt havr demo sp i may have to ride to your local dealer
Hisaan Haq Yes, the front end does go very light, but to me that's just part of it's charm and if you want it to it'll wheelie with just the throttle in first and second. My dealer is Chorley Yamaha in Lancashire
Personally I was choosing between the MT-09 SP, Triple R and Monster 821. There's a couple of reasons why you would choose for one over the other which are more 'differences' than better/worse arguments - seating position is very clearly one (MT is bolt upright, Triple R has a bit of lean though nothing extreme, 821 is in between). Another obviously is looks (degustibus et coloribus...). Having said that you should have tested the R over the RS as it's the 'matching' bike, with increased torque over the RS, same price as the MT, overall similar equipment level (no Ohlins but great Brembo's, TFT dial, ...), more road-biased (very good out of the box) tyres, similar good looks (that red subframe is so much nicer than the RS), etc. It removes most of the 'objective' reasons you found to prefer the MT-09. For me, as long as the looks, seating, etc. are no deal-breakers, then I still think the Triple R is the obvious best bike in it's category by a distance. There's a few reasons but mainly that it's engine is simply unbeatable. It has plenty of torque for lazily zipping around and sounds like a coffee mill when you do so, much like the MT. But open that throttle even a little bit (let alone full throttle) and... wow... what a thing of beauty. The induction roar is so incredible, you don't even need a sports exhaust. It's completely and utterly addictive. And for me, a bike is about the engine first and foremost, so yes... easy choice. Listening to your video from start to end, I didn't hear anything that comes close. For comparison, have a listen to this (stock exhaust!): ua-cam.com/video/zbJ7rBjGhNE/v-deo.html (RS but they sound the same). Compared to say ua-cam.com/video/Llyvg8o6zAU/v-deo.html.
I can't argue against any of your points there, and I agree the Striple sounds better out of the box. However, for me personally the engine on the Yam won me over against the Triumph because of it's torque delivery, and in general both engines felt broadly similar. As I said, for me the choice was so very close that in the end I had to ignore stats and figures and just go with my heart, which said MT
Totally agree with his. Also test rode MT09, Ducati 821 and StreetR. Street was clearly best of the 3. I might be biased because I ride 08 StreetTriple currently. Engine sooo smooth and such a beautiful sounding stock exhaust. I like the looks of Mt09 better and Ducati looks badass. Unsure about the MT transformers-like headlight. Feels like you need to be below 25 to ride that. MT09 seating position was too upright and with zero wind protection, how will it fare on the motorway? Engine made a weird whistling sound and was so quiet that all I hear was wing whistling on my helmet. Sure I only tried it for a short ride and 60-70kph maybe. Also seat was too hard and wont stop you sliding backward when accelerating. Also I heard the headlights are absolutely useress in dark in corners as seen here ua-cam.com/video/kzROoU1Ta04/v-deo.html The dash is so far away and so small and not centered. Overall quality of the bike looks budget. That is why I am selling my currect street and getting the new R in black.
Top vid mate and great advice and getting the bike you love 😉 test rode the SP on Sunday and loved it..... It was set a bit soft but I know you'll be able to dial in something perfect 👍 just the GSX-S 1000 to test now
Alexander Wotherspoon Thanks. I need to find an agreeable Suzuki dealer as I'd love to test both the GSX-S 750 and 1000, they both have a good pedigree 👍
Great video. I bought the triumph street triple 765rs , its a great bike and sounds awesome but you can get a little uncomfortable with the seating position when on it for a couple of hours. I'm now thinking of having the Mt09 sp as a second bike in the garage after riding a demo. Will see how angry the wife gets when she sees it. I might throw a sheet over it to hide it 😏
@@MsChrisep Hi, yes I ended up selling the 2018 765rs and bought the Yamaha mt 09sp . The mt09 sp is comfortable ride that has a lot of power , but what I found with it, is that there was a vibration that you can feel in the bars and pegs going at a speed of more than 100klm an hour. I also just bought the 2020 triumph 765rs and I think the triumph just handles so much better in the corners. I suggest that you take the mt 09 demo for a ride and see if that type of bike is for you. Oh yeah and buy the mt09 sp if you do decide.
Fun factor, fun factor, fun factor... I test rode so many bikes when I was shopping....bigger, smaller, faster and slower. None matched the pure fun factor this bike has given me especially with a full Akra system. In the end isn't owning bike ultimately about having a laugh?
Same decision making issues went for the mt09 which I had before loved it then had an accident and dilemma once again triumph or yam. Yamaha has the reliability which failed on me when I had the triumph and cost of maintenance in triumph is high. Not only that the torque and power is great on this MT so just bought the SP model picking up over Easter weekend !!
Applaud your choice, however small the difference she said buy me and who are you to argue. Like women, you might wonder what the other one would be like but as they used to say; "Love the one you're with." I rode the basic 09 and thought what fun the bike was. The Sp looks the business and as far as brakes go, we ride on the road and don't usually need to stand her on her nose. We hope!
It may be heavier than the Street, but it's still a lightweight bike when compared to others. After I've spent a few days riding my 250kg Tiger 1200, the MT09 feels like a BMX in comparison, so to me the difference in weight isn't an issue that should sway your decision either way 👍
Hi VeeFour, Im trying to choose between the street triple r/rs and the mt09sp as well. I would love to get you thoughts on which would make a more comfortable bike for long distances. I suspect the riding position of the mt would be better but not sure. Have you done any all day riding on it? How do you find it? Gerat vid as always. Thanks again.
Eric Hegarty Hmmm, it's a tricky and subjective choice and I'm biased because I chose the SP, but I suspect that the Yamaha will be slightly more comfortable over a full day, however that's not to say that the Triumph is uncomfortable because it isn't. Plus the Triumph probably has the smoother ride over all. Choices choices eh? 😉
Thanks for the quick reply VeeFour,. Leaning towards the MT 09 SP today. Looks, Torque, Ergonomics, Price. Still agree cant go wrong either way. Great time to be biking.
Bought the Street Triple 765 R low seat - ridiculously good fun but like the man said everything in this segment is extremely entertaining. I'll keep doing the lottery with a view to having one of everything…
I was in a similar position to you as my choice was also narrowed down to either the SP or RS. What tipped for me was the looks as you said, the Triumph although I’m sure it’s the better bike if you wanna race them, does look a bit old school. I was looking for a change. I wanted to feel I was buying a new, different bike to what I had not just better. There are two other practical reasons too; the riding position and the seat. The RS simply has no real rear seat. I occasionally take the missus on a ride with me as we both enjoy the experience. I won’t dream of taking her on that joke of a rear seat on the RS. There’s also the riding position, the MT is more supermotard in its ergonomics. Something like a Hyperstrada but with a smoother engine. My legs aren’t cramped and my back doesn’t hurt. The RS isn’t that extreme either but there is a difference, enough that I notice. Can’t wait till my SP arrives now.
stephen spiteri Seeing as you're buying one, plus I forgot to mention it in the video, but you might want to consider having a better set of tyres waiting for it when it arrives. Apparently its the same with all Japanese motorbikes, that the tyres they fit at the factory are made from a rock hard compound, and even though they're badged as Bridgestone S20, they actually aren't and I've compared a set of S20s at my tyre guy's shop, and proper S20s are much softer. That being said, the OE tyres are not terrible and will last forever, but I found them a bit sketchy and they don't flatter the bikes handling ability, so I switched mine out for a pair of Pirelli Rosso 3's and sold the stock tyes on Ebay to recoup skme of the cost 👍
VeeFour, yes I’ve seen the review on MCN and the test rider said the exact same thing. The dealer I put my deposit for the MT09SP is also a Pirelli agent. I’ll try and get a deal on a pair of the Italian shoes then seeing you finding them that much better. I’m also interested in finding the weight of rider a standard MT09SP is set up for. For the type of roads I normally ride in, potholed and bumpy stuff I think I wouldn’t mind a softer spring up from. From previous experience, for our roads, a set of springs catering for a 60kg rider faired better than a set catering for an 80kg one. Plushier and I then set up damping to compensate. Have you any idea what the standard off the factory SP rider weight is catered for?
I don't know, but I'm finding that the stock spring deals with my fully kitted up 95kg ass just fine, in fact I'll be softening both the front and rear up a touch so that it copes better with our crapy roads
I really appreciate this review. I'm looking for a fun, agile and effective on narrow roads bike. My options are the Street Triple R, Mt-09 SP and yet another one is added to the equation to make the decision even more complicated... the brand-new KTM 790 Duke. Did you consider the KTM?
GirarCat The 790 wasn't out when I was making this decision, but there's just something about KTM that puts me of owning me. I'm sure they're good bikes in general but I just can't see myself owning one. Besides I'd never choose a twin over a triple. The long term review of the SP in in the pipework for a more in depth owner's perspective
Maybe across the pond, there’s Triumphs aplenty on the road but here in the US you’d be hard pressed to spot a Triumph Street Triple anywhere and you see MT09s everywhere and for that reason on top of all the bells and whistles on the Triple, I chose the Triple. Oh and as far as the price is concerned I went for a slightly used RS maybe 300 miles on her and I love it.
Well if I was only going to run one road bike then I would definitely buy the MT10, even though it has terrible fuel mileage, because it could do a bit of everything and is a fantastic road bike. I'm lucky that I'm able to run 2 road bikes, and the MT09 and the Tiger 1200 compliment each other perfectly. However, seeing your lovely Speed R has made me very nostalgic for my old Speed and I wouldn't rule out owning another in the future
VeeFour cheers, the lightweights wheels and Lowboy make it a very different machine from my last Speed, it is a great bike usable power everywhere. But I think another year of depreciation and an MT10 will be coming 😄
Same dilemma for me: street triple 765 or MT09? I was convinced it was the street triple and then I rode the MT09. The best value is definitely the MT09, it was also exciting to ride in A mode, but the better, more precise bike I found to be the street triple. I had to ride the bikes multiple times to finally reach that decision. I also prefer the looks of the triumph. But yeah, very tough choice as both are superb bikes.
Hello. I am wondering since a few weeks if I am changing my RS next year for this. I test rode the MT09 and except for the suspension, I found it to be a really nice and fun bike. The SP adds some beauty and class to the package... Tough choice 😎 Cheers and keep up the vids with the SP. I will be following closely!!
The Street Triple R is a better road bike than the RS, though the 2020 RS has an improved mid range. Btw you're spot on about people getting misty eyed about bikes of their youth (I'm still a sucker about the 350 L/C) but we tend to forget the crap brakes and even worse the OE yokahama "marble" tyres.
I've broken myself push starting to many old bikes in my youth to ever look back on them fondly, but like you I have a soft spot for the old LC's. I wish I still had my 350 YPVS F2, She was my first proper bike after passing my test
I dithered between Street Triple R and and MT09. I bought an MT09 because of a really good deal, a bike with 29 miles in the clock, £5000 cheaper that a new Street Triple R.
Dammit!!! Now I am going through what you went through but it's even worse since Yamaha updated the MT-09 even more--with their new display and the Olen front shocks and other features. The only thing I really wish is that the MT-09 had a bigger fuel tank (like 4.6 gallons or more) and a little bit of a higher redline (like 11,000 RPMS to maybe as high as 11,500 RPMs). Regardless though, I think I am leaning towards the Yamaha now despite these remaining "shortcomings". Especially since it has about 9 more ft-lbs of torque--and developed at 7,000 RPMs (instead of the 9,350 for the Triumph) no less. And, the cruise control is definitely a huge selling point to me as my hands go a little numb after a while; it would be really nice to also give my right hand a break from time to time.
When you say the street triple looks “dated” is that because it looks more like a super sport bike? And that look has been around forever? Thank you Dave!
Jool Not dated in a bad way, plus I do like the look of it just not as much as the SP, but looks wouldn't stop me riding one and thoroughly enjoying myself should I get another chance. it could just do with a bit of a departure from it's long running profile, but saying that the new Daytona rear fender is sweet.
VeeFour yea I see what you mean. I showed the street triple to the wife and she didn’t like the sport bike look. She’s likes the retro bikes. But I can’t get over that triple engine. The only retro bike I’d consider would be the Z900RS but that’s getting close to Street Triple RS territory in price..so my logic kicks in.
i road the street triple rs 2 days ago and the z 900 right after on a test day. Coming from a er6f 2008... But i was so much more into the z900 the smoothness and easy riding for a 950cc.. the rs was so hard and fast like a real track bike for my opinion.. I think if i had a street triple r to test i would'v been a better comparison.. Still the z900 gave me confidence and i like that looking at the price!
Sold my Z900 and I will buy a MT09. MT09 was not as Confident in the bends and curves as the Z900. A Little softer suspension and not as Sharp. I wonder if the SP is more like the Z900 or could you tune the rebound back and front to get a Little sharper handling on the ordinary MT09 ?
SRT SPEEDY Mancaveproduct I've never ridden the Z900 or the stock 09 so can't compare, but I'm really bonding with my SP as the suspension is both comfortable and sharp, with plenty of confidence and feedback in the corners
Hey! I have a question for you, about the MT-09 SP, about the headlights. I heard that they are very bad when there's no lighting at all, especially in turnes (you can see what I'm talking about here : ua-cam.com/video/kzROoU1Ta04/v-deo.htmlm53s) Now, I'm not really one for driving at night, and when I do, there usually are street lights around, I'm not even sure how my bike's lights look like in these conditions, but it worries me, some how... Do you have an opinion on this matter?
I have not yet pushed play :P but from my experience with the old first gen of mt09 and 2010D675 and st3 765 I must say that mt09 has a super charming and hooligan:eque engine that puts a broad smile over your face. The bike is also super nimble(because of the height i suppose) and even though I am a track rider I found the old suspension totally ok, stock st3 675 felt as good/bad. St3 old as new are so much more of a snooze feast as they lack the grunt. The new st3 765 feels just like a naked D675, sure it is super sharp handling wise but why oh why is a naked street bike so breath less at low rpm? makes no sense.
The Z900RS is a fantastic looking bike, but I wouldn't be able to get over those faux cooling fins on the engine, as for some irrational reason I dislike cosmetic features that are only there to make something look old, rather like the throttle bodies designed to mimic the look of carbs on the Triumph Bonneville
The stock pads are okay for the road, but I'll be putting some double H pads in my R1 because I've used them on my track bike before and they're a great break pad
What are you on mate? It's the same standard seat for both of them, you can get an optional seat "Comfort Seat" its still the same accessory for both of them.
Still got a horrible dash on the MT09 SP. Yamaha should have fitted the full colour TFT like on the MT10 SP. They are cheap enough now to produce so no excuses Yamaha. Personally I'd take the Z900 .Rode one last summer and what a machine. Super smooth and bloody quick. That green frame just looks the biz. Just my take. Happy biking.
Boz Yeah they could have, but it probably would have pushed it into a price bracket they wanted to avoid to keep it competitive. I actually quite like it myself
From a pure performance point of view the street triple is a better bike. However there is no denying that the yamaha is alot more fun, which unless you'll be going on track, biking is all about!
The way you passed those cyclists wasn’t very considerate. Do you have any idea what that feels like when a motorcycle passes you at that speed, so close? Either slow down or move right over.
Firstly, I'm a very keen cyclist myself and regularly train for sportive events on public roads, so I always afford them plenty of room either on my motorbikes or car. Secondly, this was recorded in 1080 Superview wide. This format gives a good impression of space so looks good for a point of view shot, however it does create a very exagerated Fisheye lens effect at the very edges of the screen. This effect, which can be seen if you watch objects such as lamp posts pass by, compresses the image of objects as I pass by them, making them appear very close to me. This effect also gives an exaggerated impression of speed which coupled with the afore mentioned compression, makes it appear as if I'm passing objects much faster and closer than I really am. So don't worry, no cyclists were made to feel at risk during the making of this video, and I am more than happy to clear this up for you.
adrian tompson Yeah, that's true indeed. Once my Tiger Ex is out of warranty I will be taking it to my trusted independant guy. Triumph servicing is a bit of a rip
The peep's that produce the motion lotion, well certain peeps, do some naughty funding, so there is the moral issue therein. It's the same for me when I oil my bike chain mind. I say bring on electric, when they have the range and some 'exhaust' sound.
Number one reason for buying this over the Street Triple: reliability. C'mon... "All bikes are good nowadays"... are we really going to suggest that Triumph's reliability record equals Yamaha's?
Maybe not 15 years ago, but today? I'd say yes they do. I've owned a Speed Triple and I currently own a Tiger Explorer 1200, and neither bike has given me a second of trouble, and I've ridden the Tiger to the Mediterranean and back and all over Scotland doing hundreds of miles a day in torrential fully sideways storm force rain, and it ate it up without a grumble. Lead by competition and customer demands, modern design and engineering has moved on to such a level that even Ducatis are reliable these days 😉
VeeFour In the JD Power Surveys, for instance, Triumph consistently comes lower in terms of reliability and customer satisfaction than any of the Japanese big 4 (altough better than Ducati and BMW, which isn’t saying much...). And there are plenty of videos here on UA-cam reporting leaks and electrical gremlins in new 765 Street Triples... Now that Japanese bikes are not boring (MT-09, MT-10, CB1000R Neo Sports Cafe, Z900RS, etc) I see no reason to buy a European bike. You made a really good choice going with Yamaha.
I don’t understand. If the R is better why wouldn’t you just buy it? If the RS is $1,000 more then get the R. It’s just a better bike than that Yamaha. I’ll be buying the R soon can’t wait
I never got to ride the R so I can't say. However I can't agree that the Triumph is an outright better bike than the 09SP as they both have strengths and weaknesses in different areas....plus I bought the SP 🤔😁 Enjoy your R when you get it, you can't go wrong with a triple 👍
Sounds like a coin toss decision. Seriously, try it and if you find yourself tossing again "best of three", that will be your subconscious telling you which bike it is that you really want deep down 🤔
See, there are no wrong answers are there. You tried them all and did your homework and chose the best bike for you, and no matter what anyone else can say you chose correctly because you wanted it. Enjoy your new bike and ride safe Billy
Hi VeeFour & Stephen Spiteri:
Thanks, VeeFour I love your channel, it has kept me sane this year.
Wow, thank you very much. You do me a great honour
I absolutely couldn't have said it better myself
But the headlights of the triumph is so ugly ! :( sooo big and round. Not aggresive at all. How can you live with that...
The R is torquier than the RS? (I just bought the RS) 🤭
@@AmenCornerRider Yes, it has a slightly flatter torque curve while the RS has more torque near the top sacrificing bottom end.
@@playingfor4 just buy a aftermarket led headlight 🤷♂️
Sitting here at work waiting for another video of the SP! Where you at?! :)
I was at a track day giving my R1 some love :)
Julian Hands One of us! One of us! One of us! One of us 😂👏👏
Your 765 RS video was one of the main influences in me going ahead and buying one.
I wish I could have bought both
VeeFour we say that of all the bikes we ride. There’s no do it all bike is there? We just want them all lol
MotoGuzziMoto Wow, you've really pimped yours. Great stuff
I'm in love with this Mt 09 sp I wish you have only good times with it... And you have right the life is too short.... If I'm lucky I have my sp in a month.... I like your videos sir keep going
Kostas Ganosis I love this bike more each time I ride it, I definitly chose the right bike for me. Good luck with yours when you get it 👍
Great review, thank you for helping with my decision. Team Yamaha it is.
Good for you , you'll love it 😁
Where are those roads they look familiar
Over here in the US, we don't have the option for the SP. Do I was really trying to choose between the regular FZ-09 and the Street Triple RS. The price difference here between those models is more like $3000 or $4000. It makes it a pretty easy choice, because I've got a couple grand in suspension and the FZ is going to be a lot of fun.
ilarson007 many have commented about the SP not being availiable in the US. That's crazy thinking by Yamaha
VeeFour I happily would have bought one. But I've just got the standard model. 2017.
Still a fine bike though 👍
VeeFour Yes, the suspension just needs some persuasion in the form of upgrades lol.
Is there much of a difference between the seating height
Billy Hope a little bit. The Triumph is a bit lower, the the Yam has a narrow seat so is easy to stretch your legs on 👍
thanks for a great video, will go and test ride all of them
Valdemaras Abromaitis and you'll have a lot of fun in the process too 😉
where about are these roads?
This is the north west of England, around the villages of Tockholes, Abbey and Rivington
Good luck
Shame we don’t get the MT-09 SP here... I had to get the 2019 MT-09 in Yamaha Blue... 👌🏼
Is that dark gauge cluster stock? Looks different than the one we see in the US. Is this just for the SP model?
Prog Pogs Yes it's stock but only on the SP
VeeFour wish we got that trim here in the US :(
So many of your fellow countrymen have said the same thing. I can't fathom Yamaha's thinking in not sending any to the USA
Ride safe 👍
The triumph's headlight sealed the deal for me.i bought the mt09
I prefer the Triumph's move to the elliptical lights over the old square ones, but I still think they should try a more radical cosmetic design
The triumphs head lights look ugly as fuck the sp looks amazing
I've seen video footage of the new quad-beam-led MT-09 at night, and it's a terrible illumination footprint. I'd personally swap it for a 7" diameter bucket with some modern reflector element in it.
Lifted_Above I have the mt09 and the illuminating footprint is fine
I swapped mine after 10 miles for a set of Rosso 3's which are vastly superior, plus I sold the OE Bridgestones on Fleabay for 100 quid 👍
the rosso 3's are sweet my younger brother has them on his 2017 brutale 800 ...yes great bit of advice ..i might look at swapping them out before i ride it out... cheers
How much did you end up paying for your mt09 sp? I’m from Aus too, in Newcastle
MT09 SP 👍
Nice MT09 SP!!! Beautiful
Thanks. She's away for winter at the moment so roll on spring!
Fully understand, it was on my list as well - if one is the bike of your heart than all the rational arguments fall away anyway.
Also I heard the headlights are absolutely useress in dark in corners as seen here ua-cam.com/video/kzROoU1Ta04/v-deo.html
The dash is so far away and so small and not centered. Overall quality of the bike looks budget.
That is why I am selling my currect street and getting the new R in black.
Daytona with Two Bros sounds better than stock. Hahaha ua-cam.com/video/D_tD20AAWYg/v-deo.htmlm51s
@@lkfldfadf I'm 62 I love the mt09 plenty of fun for

Top vid mate and great advice and getting the bike you love 😉 test rode the SP on Sunday and loved it..... It was set a bit soft but I know you'll be able to dial in something perfect 👍 just the GSX-S 1000 to test now
Alexander Wotherspoon Thanks. I need to find an agreeable Suzuki dealer as I'd love to test both the GSX-S 750 and 1000, they both have a good pedigree 👍
VeeFour Defo would love to see a review of either 😉.... I know the 750 makes sense but I also know I probably want the 1000 😂
Great video. I might throw a sheet over it to hide it 😏
Mick T One of each? That's decadent! 😎
Is that throw a sheet over the wife?
Now that’s an idea 🤣
Did you end up getting the mt09 as well? Im thinking of doing the same thing.
The Ethical Hooligan Absolutely spot on, that's exactly what it's all about smiles per mile 👍
Which bike did you choose?
VeeFour Which bike did you choose?
dry509 Didn't you watch the vid? The Yamaha
VeeFour I was attempting to ask ethical hooligan.
Same decision making issues went for the mt09 which I had before loved it then had an accident and dilemma once again triumph or yam. Yamaha has the reliability which failed on me when I had the triumph and cost of maintenance in triumph is high. Not only that the torque and power is great on this MT so just bought the SP model picking up over Easter weekend !!
yes Triumph servicing is a bit pricey indeed. Enjoy your new bike and I'm still addicted to mine iver 12 months after buying mine 😁
Subscribed for how funny you said summer gloves my hands are fucking freezing lol
i a couple of pairs of warmer gloves as well 🤣
Hahaha class

@@VeeFour near my house too (i got a speed triple S)...i'm from chorley!

We hope!
I couldn't argue hence why she's in my garage right now :)
What about the weight of the bike? The MT09 is heavier - does this make a difference for you?
It may be heavier than the Street, but it's still a lightweight bike when compared to others. After I've spent a few days riding my 250kg Tiger 1200, the MT09 feels like a BMX in comparison, so to me the difference in weight isn't an issue that should sway your decision either way 👍
Happy owner of mt09sp Fantastik bike. Peter from Denmark
Peter Nielsen I'm really bonding with mine now. very happy indeed 🤛
Well I have to say, I'm lovvvvving mine, best bike I've ridden in ages, it's soooo much fun 👍
Bought the Street Triple 765 R low seat - ridiculously good fun but like the man said everything in this segment is extremely entertaining. I'll keep doing the lottery with a view to having one of everything…
Stephen Elliott So I'm not the only one who has lottery win bike dreams? mine include a Sutter MMX 500 and an ex VR 46 M1 😴
VeeFour notwithstanding the ridiculous amount of money I'd spend on custom extras and projects bordering on folly haha!
VeeFour, you think your roads are crap? Wait till you visit Malta. I’ve ridden on both. Yours are heaven compared to ours mate.
I've always maintained that there's no wrong choice between the two
Great video and the SP is growing on me, I know different class of bike but how would you compare the 09SP with the MT10 from a road bike POV?
Lovely bike mate congratulations!
Phil Hawkins Thanks 😃
Same dilemma for me: street triple 765 or MT09? I was convinced it was the street triple and then I rode the MT09. The best value is definitely the MT09, it was also exciting to ride in A mode, but the better, more precise bike I found to be the street triple. I had to ride the bikes multiple times to finally reach that decision. I also prefer the looks of the triumph. But yeah, very tough choice as both are superb bikes.
Jorge Asapche I've said it many times, there's no wrong choice between the two 👍
Mathieu Dupuis Thank you. I'll be releasing a long term owner's review shortly to update on how things are going with the SP, so look out for that 👍
VeeFour Ok sweet! Thanks for the answer. Ride safe ! Cheers !
How many miles you done on it now then mate?
The Street Triple R is a better road bike than the RS, though the 2020 RS has an improved mid range. Btw you're spot on about people getting misty eyed about bikes of their youth (I'm still a sucker about the 350 L/C) but we tend to forget the crap brakes and even worse the OE yokahama "marble" tyres.
I've broken myself push starting to many old bikes in my youth to ever look back on them fondly, but like you I have a soft spot for the old LC's. I wish I still had my 350 YPVS F2, She was my first proper bike after passing my test
@@VeeFour Same here the LC was my first big bike and IMO nothing compares with hitting the power band on a stroker, the smell's also something I miss.
I dithered between Street Triple R and and MT09. I bought an MT09 because of a really good deal, a bike with 29 miles in the clock, £5000 cheaper that a new Street Triple R.
Wow! that's years of insurance and fuel right there! Very smart bike shopping
It sounds like you’ve already made your decision to me 😉
Cool name btw, are you a fan of Tool?
+Jool Why can't you get the XSR900 then? Best of both worlds.
i road the street triple rs 2 days ago and the z 900 right after on a test day.
Seppe I really want to ride the Z900 too, it's a very pretty bike indeed 👍
Sold my Z900 and I will buy a MT09. MT09 was not as Confident in the bends and curves as the Z900. A Little softer suspension and not as Sharp. I wonder if the SP is more like the Z900 or could you tune the rebound back and front to
get a Little sharper handling on the ordinary MT09 ?
SRT SPEEDY Mancaveproduct I've never ridden the Z900 or the stock 09 so can't compare, but I'm really bonding with my SP as the suspension is both comfortable and sharp, with plenty of confidence and feedback in the corners
VeeFour If I may ask how much do you weigh? Im around 93 kilos.
I'm 95 kg
Great review 👍
Thanks ☺
Hey!
I have a question for you, about the MT-09 SP, about the headlights. I heard that they are very bad when there's no lighting at all, especially in turnes (you can see what I'm talking about here : ua-cam.com/video/kzROoU1Ta04/v-deo.htmlm53s)
Now, I'm not really one for driving at night, and when I do, there usually are street lights around, I'm not even sure how my bike's lights look like in these conditions, but it worries me, some how...
Do you have an opinion on this matter?
We don’t have the FZ 09 SP so street triple rs
You can get aftermarket ohlines front fork cartridges and an ohlines rear mono.
I do love the triumph's sound though 😁one of the best sounding motorbike engines
I'm like you, dithering between Triumph and Yamaha.
No wrong choices here mate, ride em both and listen to your heart
Pillokun I never rode the previous versions of the mt, but the suspension and handling is superb now and it still has tons of stomp low down
An oddly " subjective " whilst " objective " vlog. Most interesting.
SHHH, people might realise that I've no idea what I'm talking about xD
The z900rs would be my choice
But I will wait a bit for this dream...
Ride safe guys
AeroR Entertainment 🎥🏍💨
The Z900RS is a fantastic looking bike, but I wouldn't be able to get over those faux cooling fins on the engine, as for some irrational reason I dislike cosmetic features that are only there to make something look old, rather like the throttle bodies designed to mimic the look of carbs on the Triumph Bonneville
I'm sure those fins would actually increase cooling capacity slightly, even if a stylistic feature.
same old thing about yam brakes just put some ebc hh pads in you will have proper brakes, its the pads that yam use are shit not the brakes.
The stock pads are okay for the road, but I'll be putting some double H pads in my R1 because I've used them on my track bike before and they're a great break pad
I noticed that the SP seat is much stiffer than mt-09
I've only ever ridden the SP so I can't compare, but it is quite a hard seat
Well, the display of the Z900 is the worst of the category so not sure it has to be compared with the one of the MT which at least is complete ^^
From a pure performance point of view the street triple is a better bike. However there is no denying that the yamaha is alot more fun, which unless you'll be going on track, biking is all about!
Spot on
XSR900
trog lodyte I want to try one of those too. Retro done right 👍
The way you passed those cyclists wasn’t very considerate.
Ha Ha i was just watching MT09 review, next video he's bought one lol Awesome
Stuart Dickson I couldn't help it. There I was having a pleasant test ride, and before I knew it my wallet was on the table 💸💸
triumph are to dear to service i bought a tiger as second bike servicing cost a fortune if i would have known would not have bought it.
adrian tompson Yeah, that's true indeed. Once my Tiger Ex is out of warranty I will be taking it to my trusted independant guy. Triumph servicing is a bit of a rip
Nice Vlogg Dave. Sod the electric bike though!!!!
The peep's that produce the motion lotion, well certain peeps, do some naughty funding, so there is the moral issue therein. It's the same for me when I oil my bike chain mind. I say bring on electric, when they have the range and some 'exhaust' sound.
sandydenny lives I'm looking forward to electric torque, it sounds like fun
It's said to be instant, but they cost a fortune and have pathetic range and are silent, which ain't good.
However I can't agree that the Triumph is an outright better bike than the 09SP as they both have strengths and weaknesses in different areas....plus I bought the SP 🤔😁
Enjoy your R when you get it, you can't go wrong with a triple 👍
I still can not choose.
Sounds like a coin toss decision. Seriously, try it and if you find yourself tossing again "best of three", that will be your subconscious telling you which bike it is that you really want deep down 🤔
I thought the RS was £3000 more than the MT09
Nah that maybe the new Speed triple RS. The Street is a few hundred quid more
Having ridden both (and Z900 & Monster 821), I'd choose the KTM 790 Duke - in fact I just did :D
See, there are no wrong answers are there. You tried them all and did your homework and chose the best bike for you, and no matter what anyone else can say you chose correctly because you wanted it. Enjoy your new bike and ride safe Billy
Street triple obviously. Because who gives a fuck about a Yamaha?
