I owned a first gen FZ09. I’ve owned 6 other bikes of different styles plus have tested probably 30 bikes on test ride days. I’m picking the MT09. The sound of the 3 cylinder, the commuting seat position, the ability to still carve the streets at faster speeds than you need, plus all the accessories to make a touring bike when needed. And all for great value. In my opinion, if your buying one of these to go to track days, don’t. Just got buy a super sport. MT09 all day every day. But, then again, everyone one of us is different. Buy what you want and enjoy the ride.
Got the 21 MT 09. The bike is light and didn’t want to go with lighter and less one cylinder even though the 890 is very powerful. After an full Akra install, tune and dyno, the bike is really fun. Happy go wheelie I love to have on tap.

Street Triple RS for me, since I just took delivery of one last week! Considered the MT09 before but it just doesn't have the same finish of the Street Triple and I hate the headlights on the MT09 even more.

I don’t think you can really compare these because you haven’t ridden the 890 duke. Also you didn’t mention that the duke has a base option and R option with the base option being cheaper and still coming with all of the tech and options also reliability wise the 2022+ models have been stellar, as long as you keep the chain and oil in good order. Only in the shop for scheduled maintenance
@@ronaldoleon48there’s actually not much in the forums on the 2022+ 890 Dukes mostly on the adventures so not really lol the only thing so far I’ve seen in the forum is an oil leak and people that don’t know how to take care of a battery when you don’t ride for a while

I was wondering where the Beemer was in the conversation. I saw a great review with the power being acceptable and handling good albeit heavy feeling. I think I'd go with the Beemer on class, looks and sound. Probably the Triumph on handling. Probably the Yamaha on TCO. It is hard to argue with Japanese on bang per buck having ownership of a Suzuki. My brain says, "Get the Yamaha. Don't think. Just go."

If you buy A KTM it should be part of your collection because if its the only thing you own you will be disappointed when it takes 4 ever to get parts for it just saying nothing beats Japanese reliability in my opinion own a fz07 always wanted a 09 but at the end of the day 900 is heavier & living in California you have situations where you need take control of the machine or die & 25 pounds could be the difference in getting out of a bad situation or not.
Went with the 2021 Duke 890r and it’s an absolute blast to ride. Started on a 2009 Ninja 250 and later traded up for a 2018 RC390. The RC had some sensor and electrical gremlins but the Duke has been a phenomenal bike. Ready for riding season to hurry up and get here in Michigan 🥶
890 or mt 09. To be honest I hate how far the headlight sticks out on the street triple, I know that the front end of the mt has a face only a mother could love.

I tested all of these before pickin my monster 821 2020, really good bikes. For me the monster was the first bike crush i had two decades ago and finally went for the ducati. The looks, the sound, the position not too sporty to commute but not too high bars when u wanna ride happy. Coming from an R6 must say this 2 cylinder has enough power for off circuit fun. You cant go wrong with any of those.
I got a 2016 monster 821 and love it. Bought it new. But now I'm thinking of going back to Japanese bikes. The new 750 honda naked bike or the MT09 will be my next bike.

If I could have more than one I would go for the KTM. My '23 has ben flawless and my '19 790 Duke has 17k miles and also has been fully reliable.
6 ft tall with long legs. The street triple is too small for me. For track day or canyon carve it's fine but as a daily rider it's too compact. For all that I would get a super sport lol
1st Triumph, 2nd Yamaha and last KTM. I'll save a few more dollars and get 2024 Street Triple RS. All would be fun but for looks, quality, and performance the Triumph better suits me.
I ride a Street Triple R. Love it. You can upshift and drift around town, very smooth, or downshift with the the smooth quick shifter and auto-blipper and attach some corners with confidence.
The new 2024 Triumph 765 line is very solid! I think the next generation bikes new for 2024 Triumph is hard to beat dollar for dollar. I like the base “R” version it’s more aligned with average street riding and commuting. The “R” version comes with many new updates not all of the upgrades found in the RS & Moto2 models. The additional upgraded Brembo brakes, Ohlins rear suspension and upgraded TFT with track mode etc are all great IF you intend to use it as a track bike.
Personally I went z900. From those 3 though idk I really want a ktm super duke but the reliability issue is concerning so I guess mt09 would be the way
I have the 390 and the 890R the 890 is the ultimate in between my super duke and 390. It’s so light and tossable the powers perfect for the street. The suspension and brakes are insane. My 390s specked out with full suspension and every add on possible. It gives you all the power needed and the light bicycle feel of the 390
I gots the bike the BMW S1000xr for longer rides…and as far as reliability, I have a ‘72 Norton commando, surely it won’t give me that kinda problems 😂
@@Cliffracer46 honestly I have had the 690 also its an amazing bike and an amazing supermoto! I really loved it and it was just fun in the canyons! its like a fun puppy that wants to go 100% constantly. The 890 is a weapon to destroy canyons and tracks. Its reallly really really good! You cant go wrong with either. The 890 feels a little more premium. I would say with both bikes your best investment is a better seat because the stocks are hard!
you left out the king of middleweights, the best of the best, the Kawasaki z900!... on purpose no doubt. no sarcasm here, i think the z900 is the best middleweight option.
@@bosk1n selecting motorcycles is a very subjective experience. when i was looking for mine, i wanted a sportier feel with an upright seating position. the z900 has more HP and torque, a 4 cylinder sound and is typically priced cheaper than these other options. ive ridden the mt09 and the z900 and i felt the z900 was what i was looking for. they did up the displacement on the mt09 and gave it quite a bit of tech, but its still down on power stock for stock. it does weight less though, but it feels more like a supermoto to me.
The biggest complaint I've heard about the mt07 and mt09 is that both seats feel hard as a rock after a couple of hours of riding. So just put a better seat on them.
I guess I have got lucky because my 890 duke has only been in the shop to upgrade tires and get yearly maintenance. No reliability issues at all. I wish they offered different color options, but the smile it puts on my face every day makes the orange easier to live with. Does anyone have experience with graphics kits and if so, which one?
You can buy different color schemes online to replace the orange vinyl or get it wrapped or just strip all of the orange vinyl. But I dont know I get nothing but compliments on the orange on my 890
I've ridden even the new MT09, The 765 R and the Duke 890 base edition. The base 890 wipes the floor with the other 2 in every single category except brakes, which is where the 890R comes in. The 890 is way more engaging, handles waaaaaayyy better than the other 2, it's not on sharper and more accurate, it's also way more compliant and smooth, whilst detracting nothing from pace when pushing it. The engine sounds sick, pops on all shifts, amazing burble on the overrun. The MT09 is straight up bland and handles like crap and the Street triple doesn't have that same pazzaz the 890 does. The 890 is also way lighter than the other 2, it really is as KTM say, a scalpel. The Triumph is a Sharp kitchen knife and the Yamaha is a blunt axe... And last but not least, the 890 is so goddamn economical, 180-190 miles to the 14 Litre tank when trashing it, the other 2 don't even compare...
765 + Monster SP. If you just want to go stupid fast, none of these bikes are correct. Forget value, buy what you _really_ want the first time, that's the cheapest move.
KTM is performance, precision and handling. I never had any reliability issue with my Duke R and even if will have issues, I don't really care, it always pays off. Certainly, KTM is not for girls.
You can't talk about middleweight nakeds and not bring up the z900. It's easily the most realistic bang for your buck bike. You can find used 2020 and newer models with low to decent mileage for about 8k easily. Whereas the others, it's almost impossible to find newer models with decent miles for under 10k. For the average buyer on a budget, the z900 has good power, the inline 4 soundtrack, TFT display, rider modes, abs, traction control, all in a cheap and reliable package. Are the other bikes better? Probably yeah, but good luck finding any of them for under 10k. Triumphs and ktms are pretty rare (in the states at least) , and always more expensive than they should be. And the mt09 is still too new to find one for a good price. Z900 is definitely the best option for the average consumer
Definitely can't handle the terrible look of the street triple I think all 3 are cool but would choose the my 09 first then would want to choose the KTM cause of the looks but the price would maybe push me away
No,too much power for a noob rider these bikes will scare you, get something that's 70-80 hp if u ride on the streets, the new Honda hornet 750 would be a better upgrade for you!!or an mt07!!
I’d say yes, if ur careful at first. If u can do wheelies comfortably and drag knee on corners you know well u can basically upgrade to anything u want. Just gotta take it easy don’t hop on it and ride like it’s your 390 that’ll be bad 😂
you'll be fine, if you know how to ride already, you just don't pin it everywhere like a 390...your right hand is the determining factor.....890R was my first street bike and it wasn't bad, and yeah i knew how to ride motorcycles b4 just not street bikes...
Yes the duke 890 especially, it has enough tech to make it easy to ride for even a beginner, it was literally my first bike and extremely happy I chose it.
they all look a lil funky with yami being the worst of the bunch, the street triple looks the best but headlight assy sticks out too far imo.....KTM sucks for having to buy features that should be on the bike and their Headlight looks funky though it doesn't stick out a foot from the handlebar.........the Triumph is prolly the best and most refined, the yami has best reliability and KTM the most fun to ride with some niggles, but not so good for commuting.......they fit different riders for different reasons, would have to give Triumph best all around for commuting, fun, etc.........I actually bought the 890R but still doesn't skew my judgement of the others strengths......at the time the other 2 had markups and you couldn't even find a MT-09 SP (if you did it had $3500 added markup) plus i raced with the guy who owned a KTM dealership so i got a break...... and have had no issues with KTM so far, been pretty perfect now am looking at speed triple 1200 as my second street bike, lol

@@spktylr US is weird, how can a bike, announced in 2022, produced in 2023 be a 2024 model :p
@@tubejorrit it's 2024 in USA, and 2023 elsewhere, no joke. Same thing happened for 2017/2018.
I guess I'll stand up for KTM with my 890 GP
I love my 890 tough looking bike, it isn’t my daily however so not sure about the potential reliability issues !
Personally I went z900. From those 3 though idk I really want a ktm super duke but the reliability issue is concerning so I guess mt09 would be the way

890 is more aggressive if that's your riding style then go for the Duke .! Its truly a scalpel ❤
Thanks for the vid, as I knew you’d prefer the Triumph, you haven’t swayed me from replacing my 390 Duke with the 890R 😂
I have the 390 and the 890R the 890 is the ultimate in between my super duke and 390. It’s so light and tossable the powers perfect for the street. The suspension and brakes are insane. My 390s specked out with full suspension and every add on possible. It gives you all the power needed and the light bicycle feel of the 390
@@Bruce_bianchiI don’t know if I should pick the 890R, I come from a 690 smcr, very fun bike but for longer rides it hurts
@@cjcharvet lmao hell no! they're great you definitely can't go wrong!
Everybody forgets about the Z900 But compare it to the MT-09 and Duke 890's torque and power curve (even the street triple imo).
Why don't you have a review of the ducati 821? Isn't that in the same catagory?😊
I would buy the Triumph but I just can’t stand the headlight assembly.
There are more vast herds of unicorns than affordable health care plans.
I am starting to come around on Triumph bikes.
you left out the king of middleweights, the best of the best, the Kawasaki z900!... on purpose no doubt. no sarcasm here, i think the z900 is the best middleweight option.
Gotta disagree mt09 ftw
Z900 is the best if you want a relaxed ride
What makes Z900 the best?
@@bosk1n selecting motorcycles is a very subjective experience. when i was looking for mine, i wanted a sportier feel with an upright seating position. the z900 has more HP and torque, a 4 cylinder sound and is typically priced cheaper than these other options. ive ridden the mt09 and the z900 and i felt the z900 was what i was looking for. they did up the displacement on the mt09 and gave it quite a bit of tech, but its still down on power stock for stock. it does weight less though, but it feels more like a supermoto to me.
@@rozzbourn3653 Got it thanks for sharing! I was choosing between the two and actually didn't have a chance to ride z900, so I am curious.
I love the KTM. There's a rebate going on right now. The KTM looks awesome, and it's lighter too.
The biggest complaint I've heard about the mt07 and mt09 is that both seats feel hard as a rock after a couple of hours of riding. So just put a better seat on them.
I’ve owned nothing but ktms for the last 7 years and never had an issues with them and probably have like 70k seat miles on them. Sooooooooo
Why does he sound overly like robotic? I can’t be the only one who hears that
You are not. I think they are using compression software to take out the natural pauses in his speech. The result is that he sounds robotic.
But I dont know I get nothing but compliments on the orange on my 890
Got the KTM best bike and yes I bleed orange since im from the Netherlands hehe. Got almost all the cnc extra orange parts on it haha.
For the price and what you get MT09 all day.
Never heard of a "trellese" frame. Sounds exotic
Triumph>everything else
Wrong
@@valorfightforthewin :(
No.
Agreed 💯💯
That's Kinda The Definition Of Triumph Lmao, Although I'm A. Kawasaki Kyle
Wow. Is this comparison weighed against the 2024 street triple or the earlier models??
@@QuickRipzz
The current gen MT09, current gen 890 and a 2022 765 R, not sure if they had any meaningful updates since then.
Can you be any more biased, I think we can all agree 890 sounds like a damn lawn mower
@@ronaldoleon48 you might wanna get your ears checked lol
@AntaresSQ01 nah yall just need to stop being in denial. Aprilia 660 parallel sounds way better for example
Why was the Moto2 Edition Street Triple omitted from this video?
What about the mighty z900 papa yam

Just got my Z900 look at the Torque and power curve vs Street Triple or MT-09 It has both beat.
Your voice was weird. Are you using AI?
Yammie has been replaced with text to voice AI.
Nobody:
Street triple: 🪰
Trust me it looks a lot better in person!
@yammi the title is wrong
The synth voice is starting to get annoying...
I just chose the st. Trip R over the mt09! Not sorry! Very satisfied!
Well, when you feel the handling, the lightness, the stability and the punchy torque of the KTM the contest is over.
wab XSR900?
My hesd says Yamaha. My heart says Triumph.
Do they compete at who will make the ugliest bike?
Definitely can't handle the terrible look of the street triple I think all 3 are cool but would choose the my 09 first then would want to choose the KTM cause of the looks but the price would maybe push me away
The 2024 triple wins all. Hands down
Would one of these be a great step up from a duke 390?
Yes the duke 890 especially, it has enough tech to make it easy to ride for even a beginner, it was literally my first bike and extremely happy I chose it.
they all look a lil funky with yami being the worst of the bunch, the street triple looks the best but headlight assy sticks out too far imo.....KTM sucks for having to buy features that should be on the bike and their Headlight looks funky though it doesn't stick out a foot from the handlebar.........the Triumph is prolly the best and most refined, the yami has best reliability and KTM the most fun to ride with some niggles, but not so good for commuting.......they fit different riders for different reasons,
would have to give Triumph best all around for commuting, fun, etc.........I actually bought the 890R but still doesn't skew my judgement of the others strengths......at the time the other 2 had markups and you couldn't even find a MT-09 SP (if you did it had $3500 added markup) plus i raced with the guy who owned a KTM dealership so i got a break......
and have had no issues with KTM so far, been pretty perfect
now am looking at speed triple 1200 as my second street bike, lol
I'm thinking of getting the street triples as a second bike
I have a 890r for 3 years and no problem
