@@FabioTheGreat they are cooked in different ways, but a cupcake normally has much more sugar and butter and has lots of frosting on the top whereas muffins are less sweet, filled with mix ins like fruit and chocolate chips and can also be completely savoury. In short muffins are more versatile and tasty whereas cupcakes are ass

I was honest to god thinking about this yesterday. A cupcake is a frosting delivery mechanism in the same way that chips are a salsa delivery mechanism, but the bread on cupcakes is WAY too thick. Imagine how much worse tortilla chips would be if you tripled their thickness? I say a more ideal form of a cupcake is to halve the amount of bread. Just throw it away. Then your mouth can more easily get around both frosting and bread at once.
Hi Syy, I like your Portal videos from back in the day. About cupcakes, that sandwich idea would probably suit you as throwing it away seems wasteful. From there, you can just adjust the proportions by altering the amount of frosting.

Growing up in a family that almost always made sheet cakes that were frosted and served in the pan for birthdays, I can assure you not all cakes have two sides of frosting.

Oh definitely. That video was just wrong. Usually he's entertainingly wrong - it's called "a hill to die on" for a reason - but that particular video really was just way too wrong ^^
The Farenheit video was both the most informative and entertaining out of all of the videos on this channel

I disagree that cupcakes are cakes, but I mostly agree with the rest. Not completely because everyone knows the worst thing you can hear when you ask what the dessert is is "there are fruits in the kitchen"

You said it yourself, a full cake requires messing around with cutting it, plating, rearranging, maybe cleaning utensils (or worse, if they're plastic utensils, contributing to pollution). Cupcakes shouldn't try to be cakes, they serve a different purpose. Cupcakes are ideally small, and eaten in one or two bites (at least they are this side of the pond, don't know about US-supersized foods). That addresses your complaints about ratios (lower volume to surface area) and granularity too (since nobody frets over one extra/less bite). No True Scotsman is an attempt to shut down people pointing out the obvious holes in your Strawman. People pay a premium mainly because cupcakes are convenient, not for aesthetics. (I know these videos are generally in jest, but I know you can do better, and I don't even like cupcakes btw)

I've never had a cupcake that didn't have too much frosting, and it's very difficult to consume proportionately.
The convenience might validate why someone would get them, but what do you lose at convenience? Choice. Choice to choose how much you want, and choice to scrape off excess frosting. Is that worth saving like 3 seconds slicing a piece cake?
I don't think it is. I think anyone who's too lazy to slice a cake, enough to spend excessive amounts of money on an objectively inferior productive, shouldn't even be in charge of something like a party or gathering of any kind.

@@Toasterberrry Sure, but that just means that the cupcakes you've eaten have too much frosting. What do you do when a slice of cake has too much frosting? Either way you have to get rid of it somehow, and there's nothing stopping you from pulling out a knife, fork, and plate as you would with a cake. At worst, the cupcake becomes as convenient as a cake, and at best it's more. And of course the ideal amount of frosting is subjective, but choice and convenience don't necessarily go hand in hand, or else everyone with a MacBook would be using Linux instead.
I remember eating super small cupcakes. They don't have that fancy icing that looks like a turd, it's almost flat. I never really liked “normal” cupcakes

While I am not a big fan of cupcakes, one of the most satisfying eating experiences I ave had was a so-called "black bottom cupcake", It was absolutely well worth the eating, and wonderful to the last bit. Furthermore, it was not an isolated event, the producer of said confection had a repeatable process and I was lucky enough to enjoy that many times.
No icing needed either!
Granted, that is pretty much the only cupcake I really liked.

Totally! I realised just how bad cupcakes are some years back. For so long, there were no vegan cakes/desserts in cafes. Then someone worked out that cupcakes are easy to veganise, and for years the _only_ vegan sweet available was cupcakes. It didn't take me too long to be really over cupcakes. Now vegan churros, donuts and brownies etc are more readily available.
I like the mini cupcakes I can eat in one bite. Wouldn’t call it the worst desert but they aren’t great

Chocolate Creme filled tastykakes from Philadelphia. A smooth flat layer of tasty icing on top, plus a creme filed middle. Come in 2 in a pack. The perfect snack size for a cupcake, never get a face full of icing, and they taste delicious, and they are relatively inexpensive. They are, in fact, what cupcakes should be. Fight me.

Cupcakes. Come in annoying plastic trays. Have to be grabbed by the frosting to even get them out. Then must have the plastic holder carefully removed before inevitably trying to either take one massive bite and failing, or taking awkward “kind-of” bites and attempting to get a good balance of cake and icing. Then you discard the wrapper, trying not to get crumbs dropped from it on its path to the trash. You then proceed to wash your hands with the 24 others of the middle school class, and return feeing queasy.

Don't undervalue the power of good-looking or cute food. Yeah, technically an ugly carrot tastes the same as a normal one but you can't blame anyone for not wanting to eat it.
Depends on the situation, I'm not a fat fuck who can eat a whole cake within a few days, so I'd more readily go for a cupcake so there's less wasted food. But if there is a single slice of cake available I'd go for that instead
