MK11 sold a hell of a lot though. There are several issues with MK1. The kameos are goofy and don't fit. Especially on non mk1 characters. There was probably a reboot too many now and people lost interest in the story as it delves into more timeline/dimension things. Personally i always hoped they went with the future where shang tsung won and put the spotlight on the order and chaos realms as it's heroes worked to reset the timeline and save the realms. It was a missed opportunity. A reboot could've worked if they based it on the great kung lao era as well. But, they just retreaded old ground with silly things like swapping who sub-zero and scorpion are, which is confusing. Like... i don't think it's a bad game, but it's tripping over itself. If they aren't gonna let it breathe with injustice releases, fatigue will set in if they don't change things up. Also, they need to stop going so hard into timelines. It got too much. Nothing matters in the story if you can just travel back in time or go to another universe. Those need to be used sparingly. I might be in a minority, but i hate all the guest characters too. I prefer to see MK characters. Make a crossover game if you want so many crossovers, i say. MK is losing it's identity.
Franchise is washed. Done. It's a relic of the 90's that should've ended long ago. I loved the franchise to the point I saw both original movies as a kid on day 1, played all the games, knew all the moves. Franchise is just SHIIIIIIIIIIIIT now. Clunky ass ugly animations, 2010's style cinematic campaign ain't nobody want, guest characters done by the time executives who don't even play fighting games, ugly ass art style, super anti-streamer/content creator friendly with no disable gore options and more. Just end this shit, launch it into The Pit.
MKX wasn't that long ago, and mk11 wasn't terrible, I enjoyed mk11 - not as much as MKX but it wasn't terrible, mk1 is just horrible, horrible, so bad that I hope they never attempt the cameo system again and stop supporting it, go back to the drawing board and pretend it never happened
@@NemXX2No the problem already start in mk11 many people enjoy the game at first but regret buying it later on due to lack of support and it is really hard to gain outfits. You need both of you acc. to get the outfit to have the same outfit with 1 and 2 player which is annoying. Not all player love online most of the player just wanted to play with friends and family. Neither realm starting to be money grab.
The key things that stand out here. SF6 in it's second year has more entrants than SFV's debut year. Tekken 8 has more than double the record that T7 got(Tekken 7's entrants record was around 1900) and Strive pulling in more than 2000 for 3 years.
@@leithaziz2716 As much as some players harp on it not being "Guilty Gear'y" enough, there's just nothing quite like it. The closest other game to it is Granblue Versus, and that is still a much less.. Explosive game (even if I prefer playing and watching it over GG)
It isn't too surprising if you were to look at the numbers for previous tournaments. At Combo Breaker, Uni2 got 602 players but MK1 got 274 players. And at Frosty Faustings Uni2 got 524 while MK1 only got 152. Though CEO saw 114 for MK1 and 99 for Uni2. The numbers for both games have been occasionally close, but it looks like UNI players have more player loyalty to their game than MK players.

Those are casuals that don’t even understand that there are more characters coming. It’s like they don’t know we go through this with every streetfighter game lol
Someday SNK will manage to turn The King of Fighters into a huge series in the U.S. I mean, in the rest of the world it's pretty well know. The fact that I can buy a soft drink can adorned with characters from KoF '97 gives me the impression that it has to have at least some fans 😅
@@Benxall KoF '97 isn't very popular in Latin America, that's the one which is immensely huge in China, where those cans I mentioned came from. The most popular ones are KoF '98 and 2002, though with 2002 there's the people who grew up playing the hacked "Magic Plus" version Another arcade game that's is hugely popular in Latin America is the rhythm game "Pump it Up", I've never seen a Dance Dance Revolution machine in the arcades, though the DDR home versions where much more common. In Argentina there were monthly tournaments for Daytona USA as well in the late '90s and early 2000s. Mortal Kombat is also very popular in places like Chile, Argentina and Mexico, I mean, the recent games from X onwards are the only fighting games dubbed into Neutral Spanish, with famous dub voices at that, I can't imagine SNK dubbing their games, that's expensive
Also, it's good to remind that a lot of KoF players are from latin america and gettin a Visa is not as easy as it seems. It definitely reduce the numbers by A LOT, trust me

@@alexandrealves9965 I feel as though they lean so far into the photo realistic presentation that it ends up feeling flat and flavorless. No risks taken.
MK1 has no casual playerbase, because there's no new content casual care about. By now everyone realized that the story mode is better experienced by watching it like a movie on UA-cam, than playing it yourself. SF6 has a campaign mode that entertains casuals.
The gameplay SUCKS. Idk what Max is talking about-their first attempt at an assist game is awful. MK really should not be an assist game tbh and obviously they would need to keep trying to get it down, when they could just follow MK9 and or MKX and build on what worked in the past..
Exactly. And I genuinely believe Mortal Kombat should stay as a 1v1 game. It always has been, aside from Tag modes, and the Cameos are just WAY too gimmicky to have any lasting power. It feels like they wanted to go to a tag out game, but didnt want to take the plunge so just did a half-assed version of it. Idk, feels like the MK franchise has always had such a strong identity and MK1 is a big falter from that.
I hate to see KoF XV so low, but i do get that it is more popular in places of the world where they typically have to shell out a LOT of money just to go to EVO in the first place. I hope Fatal Fury gets the attention SNK deserves so very badly.
It seems SNK is pushing City of the Wolves to become a huge hit in the U.S., especially considering they're dubbing the game into English, but not other languages. Though some of SNK's developers have mentioned that Fatal Fury seems to be more popular in the U.S. as opposed to how King of Fighters is more well-known in other regions like China and Latin America. I don't know if CotW could be to SNK what Guilty Gear: Strive was for ArcSys, perhaps Terry and Mai's inclusion on SF6 would help, but I don't know how could they make KoF more well-know
@@fiammaorsmth9840 yes, I've also seen that as a reason why KoF isn't as appealing as other fighting games. Technically, you could play 1-1 on KoF, though that's not the intended way, but Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a 3-3 fighter and it's hugely popular
@@pablocasas5906kof and fatal fury have a different player base. Mortal Kombat 1 was such a disappointment. The greed of Netherrealm was also unacceptable. A real fall from grace and unfortunately not the first for the franchise. X was so goddamn good...
What do you mean greed? I’m curious why everyone is so unhappy with MK1, I mean I don’t think it’s a perfect game but people are treating it like it’s the worst Mortal Kombat we’ve ever had and I don’t understand why unless it’s specifically single player content you’re unhappy about because the roster is great and the gameplay is great and the graphics are great and even some of the story stuff is decent so I’m not sure why everyone is so incredibly unhappy with it when the most important parts of a fighting game which is what Mortal Kombat is, is pretty damn good in my opinion Unless we are just judging it based off of it single player content which is admittedly not great compared to previous titles
I been so sick of them locking skins behind these randomized lootbox mechanics or forcing us to play boring offline modes to unlock stuff. Invasions is so boring just like Towers in MK11 and Injustice 2, at some point I realize I'm not really playing the game just boring myself with these modes and the Krypt etc for the unlockables.
@@nerakar6562 It's actually the worst MK NRS has develop by far, it's watered down to the point that it's so boring, instead of buffing all characters, they just keep nerfing and nerfing the damn characters, also the game is already in offer again for less than it's debut price because nobody is buying the game right now, also counting the predatory microtransactions and lame ass invasions updates,. As somebody who hates MK11 with passion, MK11 is overall a better game than MK1 and that''s something.

WB really went out of there way to make sure MK1 couldn't get off the ground when it needed to the most. The ten dollar fatalities, the always online, invasions being lame, It’s like they were actively trying to push the casuals off. This makes me scared though because if we ever do get another Mortal Kombat, it is going directly back to the Mortal Kombat 11 formula because that’s the last game to do big big numbers. Say what you want about Mortal Kombat one, whether you like it or hate it, it tried something new. WB will never allow NRS to do that again, even though the state the game is in is entirely their fault.
I'd hardly call it new. It was exactly the same as MK11 in the ways that it really mattered. The assists just feel like gimmicks and once you wrap your head around it, the combat is exactly like MK11. Invasions were indeed a massive letdown though.

Mk's numbers is really easy to understand. People buy mk for the story modes and the new kameo system turned off the vast majority of people to stick around and play it in tournaments. It's not hard to understand.
Story mode sucks what you mean is the single player content which mk11 has way more of and ou literally cant acces the “single player mode” unless you’re online
@hands-ongaming7180 umm, but The Krypt and Towers of Time were online only as well. Other than that, I agree that Invasions mode is wayyyy more grindy and boring then MK11's ever was.
It's still a big drop off even strictly just by MK standards though. There were also polarising opinions about the variation systems in MKX/11 but they still had over 1K entrants in their respective first years.
The MK1 issue is honestly very easy to explain. The game is not fun to play at a high level. The devs do not prioritize the high level competitive experience. They cater the game completely towards a casual audience. But like Max said in the video, the casual audience doesn't like the Kameo system. So without a casual audience who enjoys the game play, all that's left is competitive players playing a game that is very clearly designed to not be competitive. Game balance has been awful since launch and the actual flow of matches are just painful. I consistently reached the top 1000 on the leader boards during the first 3 seasons so I feel qualified to critique high level games. Throws are way too strong, zoning is way too strong, cheesy kameo moves are way too strong, and the core kit of the characters are all very poorly designed with so many characters lacking vital tools to compete. The result of all of this is a game that relies on boring, cheesy gameplay and the only ones left to play it are the hardcore audience for which the game is not designed for. I've dropped the game completely for Tekken 8 where as in years past Tekken 7 was a side game I didn't play a ton of.
Characters are so incomplete. Sindel has a low that is death on block and also doesn't lead to any combos unless you use very specific kameos. Most characters don't have both overhead and a low. The move lists are very stingy. Characters just don't have string variety. Unsafe moves are being made safe by Kameos with ultra variable timing. Bruh. Fking kameos. Ashrah has 2 flash parties that she may or may not telephone out. Speaking as an Ashrah main. Johnny cage exists. Characters have animations that do not match what the move is. Kenshi has an overhead that looks like a mid. Baraka has an armour breaking mid into low that looks like an overhead. Some moves are straight up missing startup animations. Bruh. Standing jabs are plus.......anyway, moving on. It's a good game. But in this fighting game economy, we need great games. That are also fun. And also balanced.
@@Inojin67 One of the biggest strengths of fighting games has been that people who don't play them can usually still watch and instantly know what's happening. MK1 is the opposite of that most of the time.
SoulCalibur VI has about 70 entrants at EVO this year, which as a community-run side tournament for a forgotten fighting game a few years after Bamco dropped all development is a pretty good turnout lol.
Related to mk1: - no incentives for pros to compete - Competition is fierce. Sf and Tekken are just better for tournaments. - Game unbalanced AF - People just realized that MK is just for fun, not to compete.
I disagree with your last point. If a game is fun then people will want to compete in my experience. MK1 just isn’t fun past a few matches tbh. The unbalance that you mentioned is so bad and it really makes me believe that WB did not give a damn about what they were releasing last year.
last point is cooked. mk has done more than its part for the FGC. its just had a bump in the road with mk1. its not just for fun. people are and will compete in mortal kombat. such a ass comment
@@snipesmcfreely5879Even mk11 had its moments tbh. I dont like mk11 but I cant deny watching mk11 is fun at times. Unlike mk1 where those moments are so rare because everyone is doing the same thing picking the same characters because only like 4 characters are complete.
DBFZ should’ve been there instead of MK1 as a final show of respect for Akira Toriyama and to hype up Sparking Zero. It would have more players than MK1 as well.
The deals likely would have already been in place by the time all the parties knew of his passing. Getting it there probably would've required further negotiations and set up than Sony or Bandai were probably willing to pay for or deal with
MK1's biggest issue is that it is boring to play AND watch. Pretty much every character has an extremely one dimensional gameplan that they will repeat over and over multiple times per round. Character kits are anemic to account for the Kameo system as a way to fill in the gaps, but the Kameo system has instead proved to be more limiting than anything as the small pool of viable Kameos are the only ones you will see over and over again.
@@Ceiling559I feel like the game is balanced in a way that everybody is unbalanced because pretty much every character has something crazy going for them if its unseeable 50/50,insane damage, cracked frame data, stupidity good zoning and conversions etc
This makes me think how I loved KOF’s gameplay so much and I was willing to learn and get better but the matchmaking issues took a toll on the game’s playerbase and it got very frustrating. Excited for Garou tho, very excited.
As a filthy casual KOF player (keep in mind, I'm too "green" when it comes to playing the older games because I just enjoy them for the single player stuff with the busted AI enemies), I can understand how you hardcore guys feel whenever you deal with bad net code. Mostly because I speak from my experience with current day SamSho. Garou, you're one of our last bastions of hope. I can't wait for the Freeman reveal trailer (if possible, I might have to edit my comment if something else happens). But seriously, you know how much you have to *love* a fighting game to the point where you'll sweat your ass off trying to practice an entire edit team of joke/annoying characters just because they hold a special place in your heart? Like good fucking grief, I just *love* those annoying little bastards.
Also wanna add that KOF having lower numbers may also be due to how most of its biggest audience are from countries like China or Mexico that are somewhat more niche community sizes among the FGC compared to say Japan or the US or even Korea that Tekken and SF have, and that the countries that really like KOF are not only relatively smaller in size in terms of how much of the FGC they make, but also the fact that it is a pain in the ass to get to the US if you're fron these countries. That coupled with EVO this year being more expensive and KOFXV being the same game for like several months now due to not getting major balance changes since Hinako dropped, would def drop KOFXV numbers
KOF at evo is so funny to me because all the other games are how you usually feel watching fighting games but once you get to the KOF streams its like watching a soccer broadcast
What happened to Mortal Kombat 1 -- NRS pissed off players like myself who became invested in how things were going from MK9 to MKX to MK11. We were basically told we didn't matter.
It’s not really NRS, it’s WB, pretty sure they pushed for the game to come out before it was really ready and also are the reason the game has tons of micro transactions
Even though Strive isn't my favorite of the series, this truly makes me happy that it Maintains its relevancy to a degree. I'm happy for them and others who really enjoy Strive. 😊
As a casual MK fan i can also say that what they did with the characters in the reboot of the universe is criminal. Hanzo Hasashi isn't even in the game. He technically is in a picture of an arcade ending. Imagine if Street fighter rebooted and Ken in now Ryu and Ryu doesn't exist. He's just some kid in a back alley. The amount of disrespect some characters got in MK is beyond crazy.
I can only speak for myself but personally I find the DLC characters completely uninteresting. When they showed the S1 characters I lost any potential interest in the game.
GBVSR has the same exact problem, and i'm sure it sold even less than 20% of the copies of MK1, but despite that, it got double the entrants of MK1. The truth is, MK is trash, and also incredibly boring to watch
This problem is not exclusive to MK1, and is not the reason for the low numbers IMO. Third Strike is dominated by Yun and Chun mirrors, Granblue finals at CEO was a Nier mirror, you will always have a HC and Leo player at Strive Top 8 (although that's moreso cause Tempest is such a good player), etc.
GBVSR being up there is wild. As a former player of the mobage, I always thought it was a niche game, that lost its momentum pretty quickly. Yes, Rising breathed some life, but to be number four on Evo? That many? Holy hell, they really turned it around. How did that happen?
the free to play version helps a lot, i've gotten several non fighting game players into it because of that. the lobby system is SO much better than strive's too. the simplified inputs also go far to lower the barrier to entry without hurting the depth of the gameplay. the only big flaw with the game is the current balance being out of whack, if they manage to get the power level of the cast closer together similar to where sf6 is, i think the numbers will continue to go up.
The original Granblue versus did pretty well all things considered and GBF Rising is really easy to pickup and still maintains depth at a high level. Good rollback netcode and the impact of the free version from what Ive seen is also more than you might think. You get to play most of the cast on a weekly rotation.
Speaking personally, I very much disliked the direction they took MK1 I hate the Cameo system a lot, and I don't play the game specifically because of that, but also because my main characters, Kano specifically, just aren't there anymore. And the one that is there, Johnny Cage, just isn't My johnny. I also have heard from people that they didn't like how Hanzo was no longer Scorpion

Mortal Kombat 1s problem is their meta. Not only do the Casuals dislike the Kameos as you said but then there was Final Kombat and that really highlighted how Johnny PeaceMaker and Sindel are basically leagues above everyone else on the roster. They need to sort it out before EVO takes place.

I got competitive with MK9 and have been with them since but I have to agree with the casual audience I’m not a fan of the cameo system either. It could have been an interesting addition if your character was already complete and versatile but instead cameos are used as a crutch to make up for your characters shortcomings. Cameos make the character in MK1 and it shouldn’t be like that.

The problem is the kameo system. Unsafe move being made unsafe leading into combos. MK 1 is a fun game, just is missing some balance clean ups. The characters also lack strings and variety without their kameos. Which means characters are mostly half backed and don't have enough move variety.
The Kameo system kept me from buying it altogether. When they confirmed it was gonna be assist-based *only*, the writing was on the wall from that point forward that they were out of ideas.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems Netherealm doesn't care about MK1, and I think it may be due to their owners, Warner Brothers Home Entertainment Group. I think the honeymoon phase for MK1 is kinda come and gone 😢 Don't get me wrong, I was really excited about MK1 prior to its release, but as time has progressed, it's dropped down the ladder for me, while Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 stays in heavy rotation. Kudos to those who's still grinding it in the game 👊🏿
I think MK1 was doomed from the start. The way Ed Boon tweeted towards the end of MK11 sounded like he was ready to move away from MK for a while and make other games. Then later, just a short while before this game was announced, he replied to someone asking about their next game and said "Either Injustice or MK". I still subscribe to a tinfoil hat theory that MK1 started out as IJ3. Kameos could just as easily have started out as a "Sidekick" system. Shao Khan's redesign has moves that would be right at home on Steppenwolf, and not to mention just how many Superman parodies ended up in the DLC lineup. Maybe because they already had some moves planned, maybe because The Boys and Invincible are hot right now. True or not, Boon's talk online adds up to a game he wasn't keen on putting his heart in yet. Which also means he might not have argued too hard when WB started talking intense monetization.
I'm sure they care about the thing they have to make as their job, but I do feel like there isn't as much passion in these games, and there hasn't been probably since mk11. I know this is a very subjective and ethereal thing to talk about, but you look at Street Fighter 6 and the last leg of SF5, and then look at MK 11 and Mk1, and you get different impressions from either side.
GG Strive being 3rd place is great, I'm surprised of the jump in players/popularity is has had from the last GG game. I'm surprised they chose not to add DB Fighterz, I bet it would get more numbers than KOF15 or Mortal Kombat, even though its not being updated anymore. At this point it feels like EVO has MK just for legacy purposes, and bc its one of the only non-Japanese games/devs. It would be nice to give its spot to Fighterz or Skullgirls or any other game, tbh (I'm not into fighting games so I may just be saying dumb stuff, tho)

But damn top 4 entrants at Evo and a Sunday slot guaranteed and a super high chance at the next character being revealed is just something that honestly didn't seem like it would happen (being top 4 in entrants)
They're probably planning the big patch as we speak best with how fast they nerfed Beatrix not to mention the last two characters of the season are probably going to be revealed add Evo and it has to be a highly requested character with how much they've been hyping it up
Really happy for Guilty Gear. Even though the DLC cadence and some mechanics could be improved, they really killed it with that game. That franchise has so much potential and I look forward to seeing what's next.
Wow. Very impressive. Can’t wait for the Marvel vs Capcom collection! Tomorrow I will finally be off for 4th of July (and no school) Time to start playing SF6, MK1, TK8, Strive, etc!
Most people are giving credit to SF6, which it deserves, but T8 is not far behind and deserves its share of recognition. And thanks to these two games, this year's EVO is breaking all records for most entrants in a tournament.
Sf6 brought fighting games back so it earned all the damn credit it gets and everybody is riding its wave, including Marvel versus Capcom, which everyone is hyped about as well because of the momentum Street fighter 6 gave

Honestly super happy to see the Strive numbers. Even after being out for awhile, it's still up there with some of the biggest and most popular new fighting games. Love to see GG still getting attention and love, especially since we're still getting content for the game
Is....Strive the oldest game on the list not counting the throwback title? And it has THAT MANY entries? Damn, the people have finally found Guilty Gear.
Since Max says he doesn't quite know about why Granblue is that high, I kinda wanna explain why I think that's the way it is You see, Granblue as an IP has already been humongous years before idea of the fighting game adaptation was even concieved. It was consistently in the top 3 or 5 gacha games out there and so the amount of players of the gacha game is certainly no joke. The interesting thing about the Granblue gacha game players is that they overlap with various other genres and franchises of games, including fighting games, especially the more anime-inclined ones. So before, they might be playing Guilty Gear, UNI, Blazblue or what have you, then one day they're like "Oh, we got a fighting game of our own now, hell yeah", and that's where they all came from
MK11 tripped and stumbled so MK1 could fall on its face
Yep. RIP MK
The key things that stand out here. SF6 in it's second year has more entrants than SFV's debut year. Tekken 8 has more than double the record that T7 got(Tekken 7's entrants record was around 1900) and Strive pulling in more than 2000 for 3 years.

The multiverse shit didn't help either
@@hands-ongaming7180 You will surprised the numbers of casual who buy MK1 or Tekken 8 just for the story mode and never touch it after...
There also seems to be a leadership or uncertainty or support crisis across everything WB the last few years.
It's also not fun to watch, most of the kameo animations are awkward as hell and take too long
@@Inojin67 One of the biggest strengths of fighting games has been that people who don't play them can usually still watch and instantly know what's happening. MK1 is the opposite of that most of the time.

MK1's biggest issue is that it is boring to play AND watch. Pretty much every character has an extremely one dimensional gameplan that they will repeat over and over multiple times per round. The amount of disrespect some characters got in MK is beyond crazy.
i honestly dont think writing is the problem. they went all in on a mechanic and that mechanic sucks
Sf 3 isn't a reboot but at one point capcom was going to create sf3 with ryu or ken
I can only speak for myself but personally I find the DLC characters completely uninteresting. When they showed the S1 characters I lost any potential interest in the game.
@@ThisChangeIsAwful Idk man, as i said im a filthy casual and i played for the cool characters and the characters just aren't cool anymore.
Kameos and the fucking greed of Netherrealm WB buried MK1. What a downgrade!
MK1 lacks variety when it comes to the Pro scene, like who wants to see the same 4 characters and 3 kameo's in Top 8?
GBVSR has the same exact problem, and i'm sure it sold even less than 20% of the copies of MK1, but despite that, it got double the entrants of MK1. The truth is, MK is trash, and also incredibly boring to watch
you say that, but third strike has a higher enlistment
This problem is not exclusive to MK1, and is not the reason for the low numbers IMO.
Third Strike is dominated by Yun and Chun mirrors, Granblue finals at CEO was a Nier mirror, you will always have a HC and Leo player at Strive Top 8 (although that's moreso cause Tempest is such a good player), etc.
@@alfgart ??? Top 8 had 7 characters in evo japan
@@tropicalpenguin4668 one word: Nier
You get to play most of the cast on a weekly rotation.
its a fun fighting game. everything else can be safely ignored. win/win
Speaking personally, I very much disliked the direction they took MK1
I hate the Cameo system a lot, and I don't play the game specifically because of that, but also because my main characters, Kano specifically, just aren't there anymore. And the one that is there, Johnny Cage, just isn't My johnny.
I also have heard from people that they didn't like how Hanzo was no longer Scorpion
I feel that, I'm still annoyed Sonya was left out despite being an OG.
Almost felt like an insult by giving us their classic looks yet we can’t even play as them. Such a strange idea!
@@SovereignKing Insert obligatory "but aren't you glad they made it in as a kameo? look at all of these characters that are in the game (as kameos)! All of your favorite characters can make it into MK1!"

At this point it's pretty clear that "The Big 3" is Street Fighter, Tekken, and Guilty Gear.
they’ve earned it
That I agree. Umisho just made Leffen look like an orphan.
more like street fighter , tekken and dragon ball.
More like GGST because Strike is not a GG game
Those are some embarrassing numbers for MK1, let alone its first EVO. Wow.
WB screwed up big, they were so confident that Suicide Squad and Mortal Kombat will be a success, yet they are the once that change there Business model to games of service and then they are confused why no one like the content. U clearly notice that NRS doesnt want this in game store in the game, its the reason why they dont produce more skins. I mean they could easily and put more and more skins in the store, they arent tho. U just see the game wasnt ready yet, gameplay is the only good thing, but it lacks in therms of offline content, and data leaks found out that NRS was working on more game modes like arcade mode where u could play older MK games or a Tag Team Modes and more too come, i mean Ermac wasnt eaven supposed to be DLC he was originally planned to be the last char on the base roster there are so many things telling u that NRS had so much more planned for this game, but they had to cut all of it because Warner brother wanted a early release
MK1 also has to contest with the absolute state of all things WB over the last few years.
I didn't even try MK1 the second I saw the cameo system. That turned me off instantly.
And that's the reason.. The mechanics of the game were a turn off for even "MK hardcore" players.
Sad to see the Mortal kombat scene the way it is. Still love it. But just remember when combo breaker, final kombat, Evo and others where Mortal kombat was on top but understand times change

Mortal Kombat 9 is one of the best fighting games of all time and in my opinion the best Mortal Kombat game
u were a lil off with mk1 even the pro players talk about how boring it is to watch and nrs turns off comments on there videos cause the game is a johhny peacemaker fest with the same combos over and over . the game sold over 4million and cant get 1000 players to show up and play for money. it avgs 7000 players a month who play online for 1hour it died in its first year .
Man turning off comments is wild
The problem is the kameo system. Unsafe move being made unsafe leading into combos.
MK 1 is a fun game, just is missing some balance clean ups.
The characters also lack strings and variety without their kameos. Which means characters are mostly half backed and don't have enough move variety.
Mk1 has been boring from the jump. It had almost no hype and their sole purpose is milking those who bought it.
The Kameo system kept me from buying it altogether. When they confirmed it was gonna be assist-based *only*, the writing was on the wall from that point forward that they were out of ideas.
@@therealblackcerberus2371Nd they promised us the 1v1 without kameo..... Where TF is it??!
Just got my flight to work behind the scenes at my 7th Evo. I'm gonna miss Mandalay Bay but I'm excited what the new grounds at the Convention Center will hold, including the biggest freeplay area theyve had
NeatherRealm needs to step up big-time with the next MK game because things just keep getting worst & worst for MK12.
I doubt it, Im sure they made their money
Maybe it's just me, but it seems Netherealm doesn't care about MK1, and I think it may be due to their owners, Warner Brothers Home Entertainment Group. I think the honeymoon phase for MK1 is kinda come and gone 😢
Don't get me wrong, I was really excited about MK1 prior to its release, but as time has progressed, it's dropped down the ladder for me, while Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 stays in heavy rotation.
The saddest thing is that i think they care, they are just not competent.
Naw nrs is at fault to. I don’t give them a pass

It would be nice to give its spot to Fighterz or Skullgirls or any other game, tbh
(I'm not into fighting games so I may just be saying dumb stuff, tho)
I'm not super into them either, but I wonder if they didn’t in light of Toriyama's passing.
@@s.p.d.magentaranger1822 The line up was set long before Toriyama's passing. MK1 numbers was surprising because they were expecting the new game bump. MK11 started with over 1500 entrants then started trending downward. DBFZ was doing the same from 2500 down to the 800's. Max pointed it out one of the reasons for MK1's low numbers was them making huge game play changes that didn't sit well with a lot of players. It's 50/50 if its coming back in 2025. As much as I love KOF XV. It has ran its course. City of the Wolves will take its place next year.

THat's huge news to me that you're actually going to EVO and streaming from it. I thought you normally watch it from home in recent years
Happy for Uni2. One of the best fighting games I've played in years.
Granblue is kind of in dire need of the next patch, which is planned to happen after Evo, a lot of people are not too happy with how the top characters vastly outperform the rest of the cast.
But damn top 4 entrants at Evo and a Sunday slot guaranteed and a super high chance at the next character being revealed is just something that honestly didn't seem like it would happen (being top 4 in entrants)
This is true, plus some annoying mechanics.
But I'm confident that they can fix it. Please

@@Hunt9-qb1if No one is discrediting SF6, my point is that T8 also deserves recognition because this year's record-breaking entries are made possible by T8's inclusion.

I loved mk9, x, I2 and mk11 but I didn't even bothered with mk1 for the same reason you mentioned: the kameo system. If I wanted to play a tag fighter I'd go play marvel vs capcom or fighterz.

So is City of the Wolves going to replace KOFXV next year?
new dlc coming soon so I don't think so
More than likely, yeah
It seems City of the Wolves will be more popular to U.S. fighting game players compared to King of Fighters. If what SNK's developers say is true, Fatal Fury is more popular with U.S. players compared to King of Fighters, which is more popular with Latin Americans and Chinese
Be sure of it, If they hadn't made so many mistakes post-KOF XV launch we would have had two SNK games at EVO next year, that would have been wild!!!!
Honestly super happy to see the Strive numbers. Even after being out for awhile, it's still up there with some of the biggest and most popular new fighting games. Love to see GG still getting attention and love, especially since we're still getting content for the game
Holy shit, next year's EVO throwback game can be Marvel 2 now...
Sadly, I won't be watching EVO that weekend due to vacation, but I can at least watch it after it goes live.
Is....Strive the oldest game on the list not counting the throwback title? And it has THAT MANY entries? Damn, the people have finally found Guilty Gear.
Your GG gameplay vids of Xrd etc. got me subscribing. I think Strive was the first fighter for PS5?
Since Max says he doesn't quite know about why Granblue is that high, I kinda wanna explain why I think that's the way it is
You see, Granblue as an IP has already been humongous years before idea of the fighting game adaptation was even concieved.
