@@MillyBitchell And the lore and conversations with all the characters were just so INTERESTING. The only relevant thing I've been seeing MK1 wise is International Love Johnny Cage vids lmao
Yeah in a competitive sense. But honestly, all MK and Netherrealm games never last long in the competitive scenes despite their respective tourneys and such.
The criticisms are global, here in Brazil the same feeling: a game released in a hurry, without the respect that the franchise deserves, money always talking louder, the consequence, a game without soul.
Also the gameplay sucks, the way combo strings work in this game is just uninteresting and repetitive, the game feels wonky and limited for some reason even though its faster than its last rendition, which imho also had a terrible gameplay. I love MK, but they seriously need to rework their systems
Kameo system killed this for me. That and lack of single player content. Seeing all the cool stuff in Tekken 8 makes me want to pick it up. Haven’t touched MK1 in months
@@Mietinit's just dated and old. I picked it up two years ago and pretty sure it was already 7 years old at that point. Didn't feel smooth or responsive. Tekken 8 is like cream of the crop though. So good.
Monetisation sucks but the issue is more with invasions and levelling. It takes way too long to level up, if invasions was actually good and you could level up in private matches I would play this game a lot more.
Same for me. I'm not even bothering with it until there's an 'Ultimate' version. Tired of paying overpriced games that are only complete years after release. Also their way overpriced Kollectors Editions. Same for other fighing games though. I'm not buying 'till every character is released.
I should have skipped too. I bought it after seeing the fighter pack and of course they're waiting for Homelander to be last so we don't delete the game.
Honestly, I think the Kameo system really hurt the game more than helped it. It's just strange that we live in a world where actual full team-based fighters exist, but NRS decided to make, like, a half-team game. A whole set of characters purely relegated to assists. It's one thing to do that in Marvel vs Capcom, where a lot of those characters are obscure weirdos people have never heard of, but every assist in MK1 was a fully playable character in a different installment. No matter how you look at it, it feels like a downgrade, like a demotion. It makes sense from a development perspective; it's a lot easier to develop and balance for a bunch of extremely limited half-characters than to effectively double the roster size. But it terms of how it feels from a player's perspective... it feels bad, man.
Not only all that that, but having to buy kameos and new characters so you get double-dipped on the DLC expense to feel like you have a complete experience and a level playing field is really rough on the player. That's definitely an issue for me
Great comment💯❗️ I agree, I said the same thing when the trailer & Kombat cast dropped. I hate the cameo system! It makes them strip some characters like my main scorpion 🦂 of their full capabilities so you have to pick a cameo to make up for their weaknesses. Yet they have characters like Johnny cage, Mileena,Baraka with all the tools & then you pair them with a cameo?! Super unbalanced. I could slap tf outta all of them game developers ecspecially Ed Boon 4 Green lighting this BS❗️
@@RoyalCam9 it really sucks, because in a lot of ways, Mk1 is some of NRS's best work. It's their best looking game, the animations are incredible, some characters are really well fleshed out and fun to play. But it just doesn't work, because it's all built on a bad idea at the foundational level
As a big Mortal Kombat fan who loves this franchise so much with all his heart, it’s heartbreaking that WB/NRS are treating this game so poorly right now. While there is a lot that I still enjoy about MK1, something about feels really off at the moment. I really hope WB/NRS will get their shit together and start caring about the quality of their MK games. I’m fucking sick of them caring more about the “Pay for this DLC” micro transactions bullshit when they should be focusing on fixing gameplay issues that fans have with MK1 instead of constantly charging us for content we shouldn’t have to pay for. Which is why the game seems to be going downhill even though it’s only been out for a few months now.
Facts. But is more WB that is responsible for the microtransactions that’s almost there identify just like all the 2K games. This game just feels like a MK ripoff or a unfinished product. I played MK for almost my whole life started with MK3 and there’s no MK game that feels so empty and soulless like this version.
Don't buy it then. I love MK, but after MKX i checked out cause of the micro-transaction bs and the for cash guest character dlc's rather than the MK characters people love. I watch the story on youtube and i pass on the games. I've had no regrets. It's gotten worse and worse.
Definitely, kameos are fine but they should’ve given us the option to play the kasual 1v1 and choose between playing with kameos or not, instead of forcing kameos on the ones who enjoy the game more with the klassic 1v1

Wild that previous MK games used to elevate fighting games to a new standard except being an actual fighting game lol. Not that they didn't try this one but this game felt like it was rushed out of the oven.
As a casual fighting game fan my biggest issue was with the online play. It discourages you to try new characters because you keep the same rank with everyone. It's too hard to compete with a character your learning I wish it had a system more like SF6 where I can experiment more with different characters.
Capcom was taking notes and learning all this time: Separate ranks for each character? Check. Good netcode? Check Wifi/ethernet identifier? Check Meanwhile MK1 didn't evolve at all, still repeating same mistakes: No crossplay for PC players, 30 FPS menus/fatal blows (just like MK11 at release), cannot queue on training mode... The Kombat League is disgusting and they're justing reusing the existing MK11 implementation. Even the progress bar uses the EXACT SAME ASSETS as MK11. I chuckled when I noticed that. They didn't have a spare designer to create new progress bar/arrows on photoshop? No wonder their multiplayer is trash. The game looks like a cheap mod of MK11.
The game feels unfinished or is forcing you to do things you don't want to. Hell, when playing locally, player 2 can't even select an outfit or perform brutalities outside of the klassic one.
You actually can do fatalities it's just it doesn't show you the fuckin prompt for some reason. I would know since i have only played this game locally
NRS need to revamp their systems. The dial-a-combo thing, the long throw animations, long fatal blwos and unskippable fatalities need to go... The gameplay feels weird and "heavy" to anyone who has tried another fighting game, and then there's things making the game super slow and repetitive. Too much time wasted watching the same combo strings (that are "on rails" and cinematic throw animations. Fatalities were cool in the 90s, but making these animations unskippable when playing online in 2024?? I wanna play the game, not to be held like a hostage with my time being wasted. No thanks!!
@@ytnukesme1600 Because NRS has a problem of being "too creative". Ed Boon always state they don't want to just reskin their game with new graphic, they want to make everything to look different from the previous one they make. Hence why their game always almost look and play differently. While I respect that creative decision, the problem here is, they too creative to the point they always scrap the thing that they make good previously, with something new that so risk it make people may or may not like it.

@@i3ssb00st5TEKKEN 8 will completely take away MK1 fanbase. There are already a lot of content creators shifting from MK1 to TEKKEN 8 making new player experience videos
MK has gone too far from it's roots, whereas Street Fighter has stuck to what made people like it. Tekken seems to be doing the same, too. There's a simple explanation in two words; sex appeal. Not necessarily eroticism, but attractive character designs. MK has gone from the cool, "extreme" fighting game with sexy character designs to just a fighting game with over the top fatalities, a lot of which are actually pretty uncreative... (Cameos are also a crap way of trying to appeal to fan service without making legit characters, they often don't fit)
Mk9 is the last Mortal Kombat without some form of “gimmick”. MK X started the variations, MK11 expanded it with customizable ones, and now MK1 has cameos. I just want a normal base Mortal Kombat fighting mechanic built from the ground up with ONE full fighter against ONE full fighter. That’s my big issue with MK1 other things aside.
totally agreed, also 9 is the last "good" mk game that still follows the old rule of being dark and bloody while having flashy and colorful costumes. plus it has all the old characters from mk 1+2+3 and some bosses. new ones are slow, clunky and relies on guest characters that have jack shit to do with mk. just do a hollywod movies themed fighter and call it a day
Adding in famous horror characters and video games characters is a gimmick within itself so they all have gimmicks including 9 which I prefer mk9 and MKX but MKX had the longest shelf life and tournament life of all the recent mk games and it's not close

Invasions is a slog. If you’re a generally casual player like me, you can tell just how different it feels from MK11’s Towers of Time. I’ll break down the biggest gripes. - With towers, there was options of what you wanted to work towards. You could see the rewards at the bottom, and know you weren’t wasting your time grinding for nothing. There was variety, allowing you to pick which towers to pursue - There was no terrible character progression system. MK1 essentially wants you to pick one character per season and grind like hell in invasions to unlock their stuff, when it was MUCH simpler just to play specific character towers in MK11 and unlock stuff that way. It was faster, and you could change out your tower for a new one at any time. The challenges in character towers to progress did get a little roadblock-esque as they went on, but it beat trying to finish matches with the same brutalities EVERY TIME to progress as fast as possible. - The rewards in invasions are awful. Since almost everything in the shop is based around the season, all the shop skins fit the same theme. There’s no magic in buying an ice themed skin for every character. If everyone is an ice themed character, where is the fun in that? Also, the shrine coins are garbage. You can grind for hours on end, only to be able to afford less than ten pulls from the shrine, getting items for characters you don’t play, profile icons, and concept art. What a crock. - Finally, intro dialogues. I know this seems like a nitpick, but there was something super easygoing about being able to grind a tower with a new character, and hear the voice lines play out between characters. It added incentive to try new characters, and hear some lore or funny jokes. Now, since the intros are in the loading screens of local matches, not invasions, you can’t even hear them when playing alone or grinding. It makes every match boring and samey, especially when you’re fighting the same characters over and over again.
@@hermitcard4494 that doesn't negate valid criticisms of the game. Also, that reboot argument doesn't mean we deserve a poorly executed game. Stop it 😂
@@ImperfectDionysus I agree with you. My comment ONLY applies to lore and story: It's a reboot, so stop questioning its story and lore not matching the old one. Gameplay, mechanics and technical stuff, there are NO excuses to stop criticism.
The monetization in MK1 is embarrassing. As someone who adored the Krypt from Deadly Alliance - 9, not having it has removed so much of the replicability since I'm not a competitive online guy.
Grinding each character in the invasion mode killed the game for me and made me wish we had the challange towers from MK11 back(which I wasnt a fan off) the fact I have to reach rank 15 with each fighter to get all the brutalities and fatalities hurt the experience and the all the lackluster all costumes with the tacked on and useless gear system. MK11 felt more robust in terms of everything compared to MK1
Towers is better but still boring if they keep reusing. They shouldve made krypt online or invasions and online rpg. They flopped in everyway including the story
I just can't believe we didn't get a Krypt mode. It's like a chocolate chip cookie without the chocolate. An MK game without a Krypt mode doesn't and will never feel right.. and it's not as if they went out of their way to give us something better or at least on par, they give us a seasonal capped slot machine and a mode that's so gross and tedious I wouldn't wish 5mins of play time on my worst enemy. There's so many amazing casual based modes that would foster a community we could of had that were in previous MK games. Chess Kombat, Konquest, Create a Character, Kart Racing. Any of those game modes would be popular with the casual. But no, everything these days has to be some seasonal based boring grind-fest to make sure you put in them hours or you won't get that palette swap skin you don't even like. Say what you want about 3D era MK but those games had soul and felt like they were made by fans for fans. This game especially and maybe the previous to some feels like it was made by apathetic developers under the thumb of ruthless businessmen trying coast off the back of a popular franchise.
With your last paragraph, you should remove "feels like" and replace it with "it was made by corporate suits". The entire MK franchise is owned and published by WB, a large multi billion dollar media conglomerate that stretches the globe. They aren't on the same scale as Disney, but they're up there in the same league with them. I mean, they released this game alongside a shitty cartoon movie. Cage's ending was WB straight up flaunting how they made MK into a cash cow.
Invasions is the krypt if you think about it in the context of it being the evolution of what the 3D era games have. Instead of making you spend hours doing the same tower set lists (I know it has a little bit of RNG to the character order in the 3D era but it's in the context of battle order mostly) it now just has unique battles and after each battle you unlock things that would have been behind a coffin a lot of the time (either koins, mastery level up material (which is either skins, gear, or art), or skins). Those koins being gated specifically to more skins/gear in a submenu. So, it really is the natural evolution even if it is a bit jank with how it's all showcased.
I'm totally with you. Conquest Mode and those other side modes were so great, and it's still sad to see those ideas abandoned for a rotation of expensive cutscene to fight transitions, which are fine... but that alone with that boring Invasions mode, or the very unrewarding Towers design in Mk11... it's just not the same
$12 fatalities in a $70 game with a $40 season 1 DLC pack. I'd imagine half the game's playerbase problems are because most people literally cannot afford to spend that much money on a game that still has a Fortnite item shop.
MKX was fast and exciting. Pro play was extremely fun to watch which has not been the case in 11 and 1. In my opinion Mortal Kombat X was the last real MK. They are injustice games now with MK characters.
The exact same thing happened with MK11. That's why I skipped MK1. Exact same marketing and promises as in Mk11. I can guarantee the game will be put on support mode next year. Just like MK11 was put on a year after release. Neither NRS nor Wb want to make a healthy fighting game, they want to sell you a product, have you consume it, then move on to their next product.
The only variety I could get was general shao with changing his choice of assist to focus a bit more on kombos but the kombos are barely adding any damage.
The issue with all the kameos I find is this, one that this newest kameo exposes about the whole system. Khameleon forces you to use her entire kit by switching all the time. And in turn, forces you to change your approach/strategy or lack there of depending on which one she is currently in. The issue with every other kameo, is that rather than a kameo's entire kit helping to enforce a playstyle or shore up a weakness your main character may have. Everyone is just picking and using whatever let's them focus on a playstyle, centered around using 1 move and spamming just that. So in turn, why would I use a character that can't capitalize on said move when I can just pick the character that can? Low hat. Kano Ball. Old Cyrax. The kameo is not the main character, hell your primary fighter isn't even thought about pretty much. It's just that one specific move that is the gameplan and the entire strategy revolves around just that. Nothing else. And that is what is killing this game from a gameplay standpoint imho.
Only game that I enjoyed the multiplayer enough to be on the leaderboard my crowning achievement Freshman year of high school lol. Can't believe that was 12 years ago but good to see Mk9 getting its flowers still and god I'm getting old and bad at games lo
MK9 is the only modern Mortal Kombat that doesn’t resort to a gimmick of any kind MKX has better gameplay but it doesn’t have the same purity that MK9 has
I think the thing that kinda turns me off, its not a great game to watch because it feels like every character does 1 specific combo over and over, nothing looks different or interesting every character looks like its doing the same thing over and over

As a semi-casual player in fighting games, and admittedly a professional filthy Scorpion main, I couldn't help but feel disappointed with how the kameo system was implemented. When I first saw the trailers, I envisioned something like MK11 but with a faster pace, where kameos would add to the intensity. I decided to step away from the game around December 1st, mainly due to my frustration with the fact that most characters seem heavily reliant on kameos. I expected characters to be strong on their own, if not stronger than their MK11 counterparts, with kameos serving as an extra layer of intensity. However, it turned out that many characters struggle to perform without a kameo, making it feel more like a crutch than an enhancement. One exception I noticed is Johnny Cage, who people consider to be OP (S tier), because of his instant fast recoveries. He can execute 90% of his combos independently, and the taunting mechanic is often ignored because he's already formidable in his default state. His S tier status is attributed to his ability to stand alone, with the kameo acting as a bonus to extend his combos. On the other hand, some kameos are so powerful that they elevate a trash-tier character to S tier. Watching tier list videos, I observed Omni Man languishing in lower B tier until the introduction of the Kung Lao hat, catapulting him to A+ or even S tier. It's frustrating to see a character's weaknesses, like long recovery times, vanish simply because of a kameo that instantly recovers them (in this case, the Kung Lao hat after any attack with a long recovery time) then we find ourselves submerged in a sea of players incessantly spamming the Kung Lao hat or something equivalent. I don't want to be an Omni Man spamming a hat every 2-3 hits; I just want to be Omni Man, the super powerful buff character who can fly around like some sort of god.
Marvel vs Capcom and Dragon Ball FighterZ also had systems that heavily rely on assists and tag-ins, but they also made characters completely solid on their own (well, most of them). The pitfall with assist fighters and why they kinda died out in the first place in favor of tag-team fighters is that characters will often feel incomplete without assists. On the other hand say, in Dragon Ball FighterZ, is Broly a good character when paired with certain assists? Sure. Is he still good even without assists? Absolutely. And that applies to like, 90% of the roster in DBFZ.
You’re saying what a lot of people want to say but don’t know how to articulate. I’ll also add that I was really looking forward to Kameo because I actually really miss tag mode in MK9. But this wasn’t it. And I don’t want to use my kameo but I feel forced
Scorpion, my fav MK (and tied for fighting game) character for 30 years, is the perfect microcosm of why this game fails for me. 1) Gameplay: He feels bad and unfun to play in comparison to basically every iteration of Scorpion in modern MK, 2) He’s not even Hanzo Hasashi, highlighting how this game feels quite disconnected from what MK is and has been… and has just fully embraced the MCU/DCEU endless reboot multiverse meme rather than progressing the characters we’ve loved forever. Invasions are literally ripped from Infinite Earth / Incursions from comics… meaning none of the events that happen actually matter in any way.
@@zekeiwa5837 which is not popular at all, guess why 😂😂😂😂 Also, NRS and Capcom audiences are very different, Capcom are in for the gameplay, NRS fans are mostly casuals who like violence and cool graphics.
Undercooked is the only word that springs to mind. I know it’s a bit of a meme at this point but “Koming soon” feels almost symbolic of the MK1 experience. I play competitively in pretty much every fighter and MK has always been my favourite. I love the grind. I try to play all characters. I’m a lab rat. Playing online is the reason I buy fighting games. With how rocky the game is technically this needed at least another half year in the oven imo. It’s just missing on the basics whereas coming from SF6 to MK1 was such a shock. SF6 just gave everybody everything you could ever want from a fighter.
SF6 is just perfect and this comes from a hard critic. I wasnt really crazy about 4 or 5 which seemed like the same game to me. I stopped being serious about that game with third strike. That was my favorite title but sf6 really brought it back. Mk 1 will REALLY falter with tekken 8 coming out. My biggest issue is the Living Towers i played so much in MK11 are gone. They are technically there in Invasions mode but i dont want to use the rock, paper scissors system they made for Invasions in the Living Towers. Not to mention not knowing what your reward is until you finish one. So far after finishing story mode ive waited for a new character, played them in Arcade mode tower a couple times then get bored and wait for the next character. It just doesn't feel like i have anything to really do outside of the Invasions mode they push so hard. Im just not into that mode and it feels like its the only thing to do post story mode.
I am a casual gamer for fighting games, and for me what kept me playing MK11 was collecting "loot", customizing and trying different combinations of skills. MK1 has none of that, invasions are just barely recolors, there's only 1 gear piece per character that is just visual, there's no stats or skill customization whatsoever. So yeah I was done with it in a couple weeks after first season, I had no intention of doing invasions again for just recolors.
True. They hung their hat on that to the detriment of everything else. I thought it was there to include characters but not have the option of them being butchered (Batman). But, thus far, not one cameo like that.
MKX was by far my favorite fighting game to watch since 3rd strike back in the day. The competitive scene for MKX just seemed like the peak of NRS competition. People really seemed to lose interest in MK11, and MK1 it seems like nobody gives a shit anymore. Its sad I had really high hopes for the game and the competitive scene, but everyone just seems down on it :(
MK11 was very popular, and many people including myself were pissed when they announced they were stopping service for the game. We were expecting the ninjas to be the final DLC pack since Boon said that there would be no NPCs like in MKX. They stopped MK11 service for MK1 and it's looking like that was a giant mistake.
As a casual and new to fighting games MK11 feels like the best game ever made honestly! I do like MKX also but MK11 is just a step ahead in terms of graphics and the roaster has my favorite characters.
The fact that in 2023, a fighting game launched without core features like waiting in training for matches, no crossplay and other such things i've heard it hasn't gotten is insane to me. But yeah, Kameos are cool and all, but it feels like an artifical way to have changeable movesets. I liked the idea of chracter styles more, plus the customisation from what i've seen back then was kinda neat... and y'know, not nickle and diming the playerbase
The cameo feature should have been characters that can actually be playable but also work with assists, being an upgrade from the tag mode of mk9 and also there should be 2 player tag mode.
@@cognitivescience9924 yeah that's what i said, i'm pretty sure nrs studio refuses to go all out with their gameplay so they can always have a little extra to justify a new game.

It's a real frustrating shame as well, I was honestly hoping MK1 would have potential and promise, but after seeing the microtransactions and live service handling thanks to David himself (WB CEO that made the decision to make the game's live service) I can definitely see why people are already dropping out. Surprisingly I am seeing a bunch of people wanting MK9 back and honestly I'm down for it!
The most frustrating thing about mk1 for me is how bad the shrine rewards are… I’d have a bunch of coins from grinding online only to get lame kombat cards or concept art. The character skins you do get aren’t cool looking at all and are mainly color palette swaps. I remember the krypt not only being fun to explore, but also legit cool rewards regularly
@user-zb7ue7te1pspeaking of which, this is why I dislike remakes - they aren't supposed to replace the original, on paper, but in practice that's what they absolutely do. And they change a LOT of stuff in the process. At least they could rename remakes, like MGS3 remake is called "Delta".
As a casual player I can’t agree more about how bad a choice the kameo system is from a “fun” perspective. My cousin wanted this to be his first MK game he went all in on since he was attracted to the reset concept and he missed out on the first run. I told him, “kameos will make it not fun for you because everyone will find out who the “best” kameo is and every match up will force you to take that Kameo or lose to it. Sure enough, he quit because he got sick of fighting Sareena.
Man, that sucks. I love the kameo system in general but I've maintained that Sareena specifically is cancer to new and casual players. She's dead simple to use and leads to the same, lengthy bnb combo every. single. time. Not to mention you can yolo with her from mid screen for free and occasionally catch someone doing something at the wrong time. Competitively I think she actually fills and interesting niche compared to the more meta kameos, but she's just plain degenerate at lower levels and really homogenizes the experience.
My biggest issue with the game is that you see characters using the same combos over and over again, even though they're being played by different people (Scorpion having this issue the worst). It just got boring to watch and interact with, since it feels like characters don't have much variation between players (which is surprising considering kameos). I'm definitely still interested, but I'm just waiting for something to spice things up
There is no reason to do more. I play with reptile and he got 2 combos.. yes the combos got some varieties in them but I just use the max damage one as a logical move.
I don't know if this is normal in the Mortal Kombat community because this is the first Mortal Kombat I've officially played and I kinda like it it's just the dialogue between characters is horrible and every single fucking player does not play to have fun they make the game impossible to play not even game play wise ..they won't shut the fuck up in the mic
@idcblue1527 I understand that. I just feel like MK1 has so much more of it that it becomes more noticeable during matches. Having optimal combos isn't a bad thing, I'd just like there to be more options
On steam this game has a 1.3k playerbase thats usually online while street fighter has 20k. usually fighting games at their lowest points have atleast 1000 players active at all times so it wouldnt drop off that much. I'd say street fighter fans would probably play tekken leaving tekken with 4k players after the hype launch dies out. But yeah this is just steam not every single platform. But sf6 basically dominates pc right now
Ngl i kinda feel bad for MK players But since im a Tekken player and dont care about MK or street fighter, yall are welcome to try it out eapecially if its your first time.
As a casual who dropped off pretty quickly despite playing MK X and MK 11 semi regularly, my main issue is the general high barrier to entry of having to learn both your character and which of the Kameo's works best with them. Combine that with the general FOMO of the invasion and it was pretty easy to get burnt out.
@@fabianmoye7919 Yeah, the tutorial just reinforces that there's an extra layer of complexity with the Kameo's that just puts off a lot of casuals. The Reiko tutorial with Jax is a perfect example of what's off putting to a good chunk of the playerbase.
MK1 iliterally feels like the Marvel Infinite of Mortal Kombat Games. Right down to their half assed execution, and from overcharging us for DLC that should've been included in the game day 1 as unlockables. Add onto that, the game's stupid Always Online DRM that. *NOBODY FUCKING WANTS*, but they *Insist* on forcing every game to be "Game as a Service." all because some rich, out of touch executive just HAS to buy another Yacht.... This game deserves every bit criticism that it gets from how little respect NRS/WB have for the fans. They clearly do not care about us anymore. And as a diehard MK fan, thats fucking depressing. Mortal Kombat deserved better than this, Bottom Line.
As a filthy casual with MK, I bounced off hard from MK1. I know the competitive scene hated the gameplay of MK11 but I enjoyed it a lot more. A stupid but fun story mode, so many more and better gear, skins, brutalities, intros and outros that could be unlocked through regular play with more frequent rate of unlocks, the krypt was fun to explore, and if you were short on time but still wanted to get some unlocks, you can let the AI take the wheel in Towers of Time. MK1's story felt rushed, there's just overall less things to unlock and is a massive grind to do so with a lot of the best skins being expensive microtransactions and not really digging the Kameo system. They're just not as fun to use as assists in MvC or DBFZ and it could just be me, but it feels like some of the characters are really incomplete on their own. Also Invasions is an overall net negative and never want to touch that mode again.
I like MK1 but I do miss the AI mode of 11. I loved tweaking all the stats and movesets and turning every single character into a tower-busting AI pro-tier machine
Preach, man. I hate how NRS only seems to hear the "pros" when it's us casuals who actually bring in the money. And yeah, even though I've been playing MK since the first one when I was a kid in the 90s, I consider myself a casual since I never cared (nor will care) about competitive play... it's all about the characters, finishers, and general fun to me.
MK1 also came out in a year full of BIG Fighting games and Rollback announcements for old stuff. So most players probably moved back to those other games as well.
I have never regretted a game purchase as much as MK1. Going right back to the convoluted timeline bullshit is the laziest, most egregious shit ever. Hate it.
I blindly bought the premium version considering I DID like MK11, and man, this game disappointed me to no end. By the same time in MK11's lifecycle I was still actively playing it, while I already deleted MK1 to make space for Tekken 8.
I can attest that I have absolutely seen and felt the MK kommunity deflate, and pretty fast. During the build-up to MK1 there was so much hype, and within 6 weeks people just kinda checked out. It's been sad, but I feel like MK1 is a great game that nobody really wanted.
I’d say I’m a casual player but I did invest in MK11 a lot. A few things put me off this game The story. First half was awesome. As soon as we went multiverse it just went downhill and almost felt like it was missold to us on starting new. I wanted to continue to explore this new timeline. Roster. I grew really attached to Kano in the last game and pursued it longer because I had a main and the variations for online kept the game going longer Kameos. I agree with everything you say and it’s why I don’t like them and would rather them be removed. Online. Playing online used to tell you your win percentage chance and an opportunity to reject the matchup. Invasions. Dear god this shit is painful. The krypt was awesome but this grind is awful. It also appears to be how they intend to continue to deliver content. Skins. Invasions is currently - this season we all get a blue skin. If you play invasions mode. There aren’t any real alt costumes yet. Especially Kameos DLC - it’s a big gap. I’m somewhat interested in Ermac but his design is so bad and I already know he doesn’t have a better costume from the game how it is now With that all combined I stopped playing. I’m actually interested in Tekken 8 and will probably buy when I wasn’t before.
MK1 was the perfect opportunity to tone things down, remove all the time travel crap, make a more grounded story, and it looked like it for the first half. Some pretty nice interactions, no nonsense involving alternate characters from different timelines, characters like Baraka and Reptile finally being treated with some respect, and characters from the 3D era actually being made likable and interesting like Ashrah. And then the second half happens and it's a complete trainwreck.
i played mk1 for like 2 weeks an hour a day and then stopped lol didnt bring that nostalgic feeling playin mk in the past. bought tekken 8 waiting for that.
i also went back into MK franchise hard on MK11. I played them all but MK11 gave me a hard on, around 200 hours of singleplayer time. So when they rebooted with MK1, i thought id have Mk11 but better. Oh boy was i wrong
Because they tried to fix their bad (first) launch they had with SFV. IMO SFV at their first release was even worse than this MK1 recently released 😄 FeIt even more incomplete than MK1. But NRS now went rather on the SFV route while Capcom improved for their SF6 game.
This is really a simple answer 3 pointer -Game feels soulless -Kameos killed all the vibes and they suck they gave more restrictions to the gameplay than freedom and combos if you give each player 2 more special moves or even 1 you can remove Kameos and its gonna be the same they just locked the combos behind them and their button. -Feels like AI when watching it. Combos are so SO scripted in the lab that when you watch each char do 1 or 2 combos 4 times its DONE game looks like a replay....
I think one issue contributing to it is Invasions, because it just isn't fun to play. It feels like a game of Mario Party, but every time you step on a new space, a minigame starts. Contrast that with World Tour in SF6. It's way more fun to explore Metro City and Nayshall in that mode because you aren't locked to a grid with that game. Plus something I like is they added to World Tour, but they never reset World Tour. In Invasions, after a season is done, all your items are gone and you're back to level one. Sure, MK1 has a better narrative, but SF6 has the better single player experience.
Ya I hate starting from scratch again every season. Losing the Talismans I went to the trouble of making. Even though I rarely use them cause they cost to much to recharge.
Possibly a unique perspective, but as a blind player I was so excited for this game. The suite of options they’ve implemented in regards to accessibility made this easily the most accessible fighting game ever made. Even with that, after a couple of months i was personally done too. The online system, especially on PC - not particularly loving the roster and in a way that’s difficult for me to convey the game just feels… off? It’s sad, but in so many ways it feels like they genuinely dropped the ball with this.
Apparently the game didn't have a lobby system at all during launch? That's really weird to hear. We usually bring up the Guilty Gear lobbies not working which makes them a chore, but I don't think I've heard of a fighting game just outright not having lobbies at launch since SF5.
Not trying to be disrespectful, I'm genuinely curious, how does playing a fighting game (or any competitive game) work as a blind person? Like, are there some specialized accessibility tools that allow you to do that, or is your sight present ENOUGH to allow you to play?
None taken don’t worry 🙏 I only lost my sight back in 2019 so before that I’d just been playing normally. However with both SF6 and MK1 they added a full range of audio based accessibility options to give us as much information as possible as to what’s happening on screen. A couple of examples are a distance alert that raises in pitch the closer or further away you are from another player. MK1 has audio based cues for almost everything, overheads, specials, meter etc. I’m still getting used to all these systems, but it’s come a long way. I’d recommend checking out some videos from people like sightless combat & KH_Rattlehead if you want to see these things in action ^^
@@lordatrexiathats sooo cool! I always thought about adding something like that if i ever made a videogame, i didnt expect games to be implementing that stuff already. Its seriously so cool
The main turn off for me was the simplification of graphics and overall visual design. It's hard to explain, but the game doesn't look and feel substancial any more. Even the impact from the strikes became softer and weirder. As a result the game has become less exciting and immersive.
Feel the opposite tbh. Impact might not be as much but it’s definitely graphically better and I’d honestly say u feel and see the impacts a lot more on breaker and characters like general shao or omni man. Johnny had weirdly heavy hits aswell
•add tag team •fix connection issues •add seperate ranks for each character so ppl start using different characters & start roaming the roster) •maybe speed up movement by like 10% •Show where/how to unlock certain gear •let combo breaker only take 2 bars •Add a 1v1 game mode There you go.
•fix sub and scorpion cause it's a shame that they are one of the main characters but also one of the weakest. • ermac costume is ugly they need to fix that •speed up the game and give characters more mix up potential. Johny shouldn't be one of the only ones who can do that. It's not fair •reptile needs buffs as well •matter of fact buff the whole roster, add more moves and get rid of kameos
I would say NRS, GameFreak and Bungie are all in positions of “we’re listening but our bosses don’t find those updates or ideas profitable” all three of them and they tell us this like we’re suppose to feel sympathy. Were gamers lol. We just want a good game or our games to function, that’s why smaller companies or indie devs are relied on more now than ever, they don’t have that corporate thumb on their backs. “You’re making a product not a game” in their eyes, the rich CEOs have a quota to meet and possibly aren’t even gamers themselves, just took an Economics class in college and decided to run a video game company to make everyone mad in the end. This isn’t an MK situation more so the gaming industry needs to change and care more about the gamer than how much sales they’re going to get. It’s a new year only time will tell. The huge number of layoffs furthers this horrible trend, too
@@CMCAdvancedSpot on. It’s weird because those 3 companies have the talent, budget, and vision to create what the fans want but the Corpo heads have them doing just enough for the core game while focusing on tactics to suck the players dry of their wallets.
Can we stop just shifting all the problems to some random bosses and stuff, the boss doesn't come up with entire video game idea, code, story and all that
It’s fax tho it’s the same w cod even the people making it wanted to make a new cod but bosses said “war zone 2 “and ran w it and double charged for a dlc really in game purchases ruin every game it would put more play time if you had to actually unlock characters in mk or reach a certain level
@@kubekzpiciem but they dictate the direction of said code, story and "all that"? The cold reality of the industry is lack of permaence in the "AAA" space by devs. They are treated very poorly usually which is why many of them get burned out by the industry and pushed out.
NRS had a chance to make something special with the new timeline, new story, new characters etc. But what we got is a regurgitation of the previous Mk.
i wanted what they implied in mk11 aftermath ending, the story of great kung lao, with a ( i think) change in the result of his fight against goro, and then , from that victory, change all the story of mk. But no, they retconned that ending...
The whole game's lifecycle has happened at a breakneck pace. It went from announced to out so fast I didn't even get a chance to be hyped, and then it went from out to dead before anything happened to make me stand up and take notice. Also seeing all the non-MK characters getting released made me just think the game was there as a souless cash grab which did not help. Then came the micros from hell... No hype plus constant streams of anti-hype.
but this has been going on since injustice 1 MK9 was still acceptable but sadly these games are like milk, once their novelty wears off due to its story telling no one stays and neither does NRS games in competitions due to poor balancing and horrendous game play mechanics. there are far better fighting games out there that offer better mechanics gameplay wise which creatives longevity.
this exactly what happened with MKX & MK11 too. hell MK1 steam numbers in the first few months better than both of them in the first months of their life cycle.
Yeah, my eyes slide off all those sterile environs. They feel a lot like hitman levels. Or example rooms for showcasing graphics card tech. @@Some_Cat_
I also think it might be that they have some really stiff competition. Street Fighter 6 is still doing well and a lot of fighting game fans are hyped af for Tekken 8, they obviouly aren't the same but a lot of the more casual audience may have gravitated to those two instead to scratch that "fighting game itch" for lack of a better term.
I agree with this. Also SF 6 is a more casual friendly game and the community and competitive scene is richer as well for the series altogether. MK doesn't have as much international pull as the others too. Learning assists is harder than the drive rush system, plus modern controls
@@crimsonite2044 Pretty much you summed it (plenty of it). That is what it was (or still is) this MK1 for them. A way to make some quick bucks 😄 I will give my bucks too ..but rather when they will release a Komplete / UItimate / Legendary (whatever the name of that complete) edition of this MK1 (will be). So far I didn't buy the standard edition of the game nor the premium with the KP1 DLC pack (that you still need to wait a bunch of months to have them all) 😄
1. WB Games is always nosedive since Arkham & Shadow of franchise died. 2. MK already heading to this way since MK11. Like how they tied everything on online. They even tamper the SP experience and local MP where casuals cant even enjoy it escept the story mode. Worst move they did for a fighting game. 3. Idk if Im the only one but character designs heavily toned down and uninspiring after MK10. They aim to realism a bit too much. Scorpion, subzero, the ninjas design isnt cool as past games, they look like cosplayers of themselves. Other characters also the same, nothing really standout except they isnt humanoid and its getting smaller and rarer since MK10. Major turn off to many of my friends including myself really. 4. The story also come recyling in same story. Human vs Netherrealm. Always shao khan as final boss. Liu kang the hero except MK1. They rebooting the story 3 times now. MK1-armageddon, MK9-10, MK 11 multiverse and now MK1. It just repeating exact same story with small twist. They run out of creative ideas by this point. 5. The gameplay while compared to MK prior MK9 is more competitive, but its get more complicated each release and isnt enjoyable enough compared to SF, Tekken, DoA, etc. turning off newcomers/casuals. I liked they utilize every button on controllers but its tedious compared to other fighting games that only use directional and 4 main buttons is enough to play. 6. Again, they gatekeep everything online and rely on DLC for skins that also parody of their supposed to be cooler design. You dont want to pay grind it with same characters until you get bored. Those skins look nothing compared to the OG game design looks. Also the guest fighter is talking spotlight too much compared to MK characters fans wanted. Those who dont watch Omni Man or Peacemaker dont really care about the character feel they wasted spots for more relevant characters. So yeah this is also the 1st MK I skipped after hating how MK11 cant be really enjoyed for local multiplayer for me. So its a good call. NRS its doomed judging how WB Games clearly chasing monetizations and trend to get money as much as possible but eventually they just parody of whatever trends currently happening. Now Palworld is viral and if they survived against pokemon/nintendo. I bet WBD will make similar games and the game will die in 2 years time at the most. They also do the same in movies and series. They dont deserve their major positions in entertainment business anymore by this point.
I think casuals dont like it cause assists mean you have to lab, and if you dont lab its the difference between like a 5 hit combo and a 10, so that will feel real real bad
Labbing just isn't fun for most people and yet here we are. It's not even fun for people used to assist games cause the assists don't come out like they do in those games
@@CMCAdvanced yup most people dont like it, and they all played MK because they didnt like it lol. I get changing a game up to keep it fresh, but they just made a genre that already exists... and they have much more experience in it
i actually like the gameplay more than 11 but what killed it for me is the skins locked behind micro transactions and the invasions mode being a limited time mode each season. I have too much other stuff to play so I don't have time to focus on that grind and all they give is recolors of already existing skins
I got it for the story and was super excited to possibly see the dragon king come back and instead the story just had a whole multiverse thing which I'm getting so sick of every company milking right now. I had also hoped for a cool new krypt when the game didn't even have one. If they could've just done a free roam MKD style mode it would be so great
I’m glad max just gave a straight answer. Casual players don’t like team base fighters and the game feels samey. He didn’t insult us or say it’s a skill issue. It’s a chore to play this game. I don’t want mk to fail so I play even tho I’m not having a fun time. Chameleon may seem fun to higher tier players but being combo for 50+ over and over breaks you down after awhile
The problem is that they didn't even bother making it playable for casuals. The game feels like it only caters to pro players. It's evident with all of the broken characters like Johnny Cage and the constant pressure kameos that don't ever let you play the game. The game is just frustrating for new players. SF6 did a much better job of making the game beginner friendly
@@whatsmyname5672 mk1 did have a mode for beginners and noobies. It was casuals. Problem was pro players wanted clips and didn’t want meta fights so they sat down in casuals and killed off players who would have tried to get better at the game. In season 1 most casuals hid in kombat league to avoid sweaty players and fight people their skill level. Now your not even safe there because desync and Smurf account.
@@whatsmyname5672yeah because sf6 with its modern controls that are still harder to use than MK’s controls, drive and reverse system is such a casual friendly game.
@@arpadszabo661 I think they are talking about all the beginner and single player features and modes SF6 has over MK, modern controls is just a part of it, and even if they are "still hard" it fulfilled it's purpose of lowering the entry barrier. Tons of people afraid of motion inputs jumped into the game either online or world tour and loved it
I think one thing I haven't seen a lot of people talk about also is the story; NRS story modes are a big draw for casual and longtime fans. The story mode for MK1 is just... disappointing by the end? Not necessarily in spectacle; seeing armageddon and all the cool hybrid characters is neat, but the actual writing fully falls off. Acts 1-3 are all about political intrigue and are grounded; we learn about the new characters and their new lives/destinies. Once Act 4 hits, it becomes multiverses shenanigans that fully lose the original plot. There's nothing cleverly done; suddenly it's just endless multiverse combat. You have to go to the towers to see the stories actually play out in a meaningful sense. Also, this may just be a personal pet peeve, but I despise the lack of a boss character in this game. Titan Shang Tsung's only real "boss" quality is that he has the moves from both of his forms. Stuff like that matters to more casual players.
For Example: Old MK Lore - Kuai Liang & Bi-Han were born in America to a Chinese cryomancer & American mother. They were snuck back to the Lin Kuei Temple to become assassins for various contractors like Shang Tsung. New MK Lore: Brothers join the Lin Kuei because grandpa said so.
The story annoys me SO MUCH. Like, can you imagine if the story was Shang Tsung going against Liu Kang and his allies, BECUASE the moment he started rising further than Liu wanted him to, he immediately assumes he's evil and then starts going after him? Then we actually have a morally interesting story, about assumptions and nature over nurture, but NO, we need Titan Shang Tsung Multiverse Amarrageddon evil plan call every multiverse variant. The wasted potential makes me fuming mad thinking about it.
There is so much about this game that i love. The roster, the gameplay, and the story are all great in my opinion but i also remember the 3d era where the games had some wild content and modes like Chess Kombat and a Konquest that was a full on adventure mode ala World Tour. If only this game actually got the time it needed to be something truly excellent 😔
@dyllanrodriguez2828 Not only that but it's peers - Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6 have the content and features That MK1 lacks and should have. It's frustrating because now MK is fun to play again but there isn’t a reason to play it unlike just about every MK game from Deadly Alliance onwards.
I feel like MK is still overlying on the flanderized Gore to carry it thru. It relies on the gimmick of ever increasing Gore instead of really making the game stand on its own like the 3D era tried to The constant fatal blows really slow the game down. Once you see em a few times it gets old real fast
Great video. I also think that one of the main issues with MK is that it does not iterate. Every MK is like a new fighting game. That’s not to say that there aren’t transferable skills, but they change the game too much for NRS to learn from their mistakes and make better content. They toss their rulebook out of the window with each MK since MK9. MK9 brought this franchise into the main arena of the FGC. MKX was very different than MK9 but it seemed to work itself out. MK11 seemingly threw the success of MK9 and X out of the window. MK1 seems to do the same thing. I think they need to take what worked for MK9 and X and use that to build. This is why I believe Tekken is so successful; aside from Tag2, there are never any gigantic “changes” in Tekken, they just build on what worked and what didn’t. Also, and this may be more of a personal opinion, but I think they need to stop holding back on their main cast. I was an avid Cyrqx player in MK9, and when MKX came out I had to wait a while before playing with him. By the time Cyrqx was released I had already lost interest in the game. Same with MK11. In MK1, there are characters that are kameos that should have been in the main cast, not to mention that no one even really asked for an MK tag game to begin with. Why isn’t Kabal in the game? Why can I only use Jax as a Kameo? NRS needs to stop focusing on shaking their game up with wacky systems and just make a solid MK game with a solid MK cast that is built off of MK9 and X with better graphics, smoother animations, and new mechanics that work with what people already like.
I, for one, appreciate the deviation from the same old Special Forces vs Black Dragon storyline toward a more Edenian-focused story. Jax and Sonya aren’t playable because for once, they’re irrelevant to the story, and I actually think that’s a good thing.
people optimize the fun out of every competitive game. if u dont use meta in all games you are severley disadvantaged and you lose variety. and variety is what keeps games fresh and fun
Honestly, as someone who doesn’t like to play online and is super casual, what’s made me not touch it since launch was the complete lack of interesting single player features. The Krypt, though frustrating from a grind perspective, was fun to explore. Invasions is just so bad. And the only cosmetics that are worth it are the final bosses or whatever but I don’t want to play Invasions for 5 minutes let alone 5 hours.
Agreed, Invasion mode seems like an interesting mode in theory, but the execution is horrible. Outside of the boss every single fight feels the same and ends within 20 seconds. If each encounter was like MK9’s challenge tower with their own unique gimmick I feel like it would keep people’s attention.
MK11 was my first Fighting Game i've gotten into since Tekken 3. I played MK11 for a few years, and even tho I was super casual and didn't really improve much over time, I stuck to the game for a few reasons. Number 1: I loved the mechanics and the speed of the game a lot. Kameos feel bad, and just make no sense to me visually. A character jumping-in and out imediatelly just feels dumb. Number 2: The story mode had great writing. I replayed it 3-4 times in total, because I loved the world and characters quite a bit. Mk1 felt like a parody. Number 3: Customization. It wasn't much, but in MK11 character customization and unlockables through the crypt were just super addictive and fun. Number 4: Art Style. MK11 had a much more appealing art direction to me. The lighting and character designs were far more appealing than the super grounded ones in MK1. I know it's subjective.
The visuals are a downgrade for sure, Mortal Kombat should look like a fantasy/metal band cover art, not a bunch of semirealistic actors wearing "realistic costumes".
Mk11 having great writing, that's a big ass cap because it has probably the worst writing in the series. The worst villain, so many old characters mishandled and butchered (and new characters barely doing anything in the story), and of course Mortal Kombat totally needed time travel. Aftermath was better but it's just because Shang Tsung is the best character in the story.
I also think that some people were not a big fan of rebooting the Mortal Kombat franchise. Given how the last Mortal Kombat game ended where would it go from there.
I’m the most casual of casual fighting game fan but the customization in MK11 and Injustice 2 kept me grinding for WEEKS, all I wanted from this game is some character customization and I would’ve loved it.
The balancing has definitely driven away a lot of the casual audience. While things like Reiko stars and Sareena projectiles aren't game breaking for competitive players, they are atrocious for players who just wanna hop on a game during their free time yet they'll never get nerfed because of the catering towards the competitive scene.
@@Distortia1994 Really, when any genre caters to the competitive scene, it falls off. Pro players don't want a fun game, they want a game they can win. The love of money ruins everything.
You should lose in fighting games if you suck, my problem is kameos like Stryker, Kano and Sektor just play neutral for the player, they don’t need good fundamentals the Kameo does everything for them, and if they fuck up kano ball to cover, it’s very brain dead and stale to me I feel like it’s stripped a lot of the skill aspects of a fighting game.
Mortal Kombat always dies. It never has staying power. The lore is always kooler than playing the game.
It does, but never this quick and drastic
Not the case for MK1. The gameplay is the strongest feature of this game.
This is not always true until this game I guess
@@MillyBitchell And the lore and conversations with all the characters were just so INTERESTING.
The only relevant thing I've been seeing MK1 wise is International Love Johnny Cage vids lmao
Yeah in a competitive sense. But honestly, all MK and Netherrealm games never last long in the competitive scenes despite their respective tourneys and such.
The criticisms are global, here in Brazil the same feeling: a game released in a hurry, without the respect that the franchise deserves, money always talking louder, the consequence, a game without soul.
And still without crossplay between PC and console
Also the gameplay sucks, the way combo strings work in this game is just uninteresting and repetitive, the game feels wonky and limited for some reason even though its faster than its last rendition, which imho also had a terrible gameplay. I love MK, but they seriously need to rework their systems
Agora tu falou tudo parceiro, contigo totalmente contigo
D4 was also a souless garbage piece of sht cashgrab...these franchises became a fkin joke
Well said.
Kameo system killed this for me. That and lack of single player content. Seeing all the cool stuff in Tekken 8 makes me want to pick it up. Haven’t touched MK1 in months
I've been a MK fan for 30 years. Tekken 8 turned me into a Tekken fan. My favorite fighter ever. I also hated Tekken 7 if that helps.
Who would've thought that reducing fan favourite characters to nothing more than a 1 second long assist move would drive people away.
Yeah I‘m going to switch to Tekken 8 as well. Especially because of the Kameo mechanic. And the single player content as well.
@@sheldonfrey2956 Interesting. Why did you hate 7? Kinda thinking of getting it as my first Tekken cause it's so cheap... 😅
@@Mietinit's just dated and old. I picked it up two years ago and pretty sure it was already 7 years old at that point. Didn't feel smooth or responsive. Tekken 8 is like cream of the crop though. So good.
It's the monetization for me. First mk I skipped on. Fed up honestly.
Yeah, MK 11 had some rough spots for sure with its monetization but MK1 feels worse, plus invasions is too much of a grind IMO.
I drop the game after 2 days once it became clear how monetize it was, to an insane degree. It was the first time I truly regretted buying a game
Both greedy and lazy. AAA gaming in a nutshell

WB has been on the aggressive monetisation thing for a decade. I don't see them changing.

Capcom was taking notes and learning all this time:
Separate ranks for each character? Check.

There was variety, allowing you to pick which towers to pursue
- There was no terrible character progression system.
Mortal Kombat 11 Towers of time>>>>>>MK1’s Invasions. I knew Ko-op towers with Randoms or basically everything else you said was too good.
If it's a reboot why are you overthinking about the previous world? Its a reboot, period.

The monetization in MK1 is embarrassing. As someone who adored the Krypt from Deadly Alliance - 9, not having it has removed so much of the replicability since I'm not a competitive online guy.
Wait wait they got rid of the the fucking Krpt?
Ur only options for single player are story and invasions mode which you can put all ur stats into strength and just upper cut everything. That's it
Grinding each character in the invasion mode killed the game for me and made me wish we had the challange towers from MK11 back(which I wasnt a fan off) the fact I have to reach rank 15 with each fighter to get all the brutalities and fatalities hurt the experience and the all the lackluster all costumes with the tacked on and useless gear system. MK11 felt more robust in terms of everything compared to MK1
Towers is better but still boring if they keep reusing. They shouldve made krypt online or invasions and online rpg. They flopped in everyway including the story
Mk 11 is garbage.
Well put. It's a shame the younger gamers didn't have those experiences. They have no idea how much content a $50 game bought.
Now SF6 has create a character and Konquest.
Funny how they switched lol.

@@runbaa9285yea but DBZF is just plain fun. This game isn’t

Playing online is the reason I buy fighting games. With how rocky the game is technically this needed at least another half year in the oven imo. It’s just missing on the basics whereas coming from SF6 to MK1 was such a shock. SF6 just gave everybody everything you could ever want from a fighter.
Except regular updates & DLC & an actual story mode.
Ive put in like 16 hours on the demo already and I know its going to steal a lot of attention.

If they give the option to fight without kameos, I'll come back
True. They hung their hat on that to the detriment of everything else. I thought it was there to include characters but not have the option of them being butchered (Batman). But, thus far, not one cameo like that.
And some characters NEED kameos sadly, i wonder if that will be a mode in the future
reiko is entirely kameo dependant, its sad. NRS will need to revamp some characters if they remove them.
@@Stormzzzze Shame because he's the coolest character in the game
Or they could do what they did for MK9 and create a tag team mode so that people have the option to either do a solo or a tag team ladder.
Yeah I was pissed. I wish I3 would have dropped instead of MK1. It would have gave us that break between games

I think Hector Sanchez was a BIG reason of MK9’s success. His role and touch with the fans did many positive things for the game.
Fortunately there is only ONE
MK1 and it was released in the 90s.
Doesn’t matter who the main pick was. Sareena was who you were ACTUALLY fighting
@@oneb3lowyea the combos being so long and seeing the same ones over and over again gets tiresome quick.

Living in a timeline where Guilty Gear has more active players than Mortal Mombat is so wild to me
Also why is this game over 150 GBs?!? Infinite Wealth is 50 and its a Yakuza game + animal crossing and pokemon💀💀💀
You sound like ltg.😂
I don't know if this is normal in the Mortal Kombat community because this is the first Mortal Kombat I've officially played and I kinda like it it's just the dialogue between characters is horrible and every single fucking player does not play to have fun they make the game impossible to play not even game play wise ..they won't shut the fuck up in the mic
It’s called optimals, every fighting game has them
@idcblue1527 I understand that. I just feel like MK1 has so much more of it that it becomes more noticeable during matches. Having optimal combos isn't a bad thing, I'd just like there to be more options
The drop off’s gonna be even more exponential next week when Tekken 8 drops. RIP.

But since im a Tekken player and dont care about MK or street fighter, yall are welcome to try it out eapecially if its your first time.
As a casual who dropped off pretty quickly despite playing MK X and MK 11 semi regularly, my main issue is the general high barrier to entry of having to learn both your character and which of the Kameo's works best with them. Combine that with the general FOMO of the invasion and it was pretty easy to get burnt out.
thank you I've been trying to explain this to pros who love MK1. I know this is a common experience for casual players, it's too much...
Did you play the complete tutorial?
I always find the movements of the characters so stiff. they're snappy but stiff
Despite the kameos I think mk11 and mk1 feel pretty much the same to me and that’s what turned me off to the game as a whole

I’d say I’m a casual player but I did invest in MK11 a lot. A few things put me off this game
The story. First half was awesome. As soon as we went multiverse it just went downhill and almost felt like it was missold to us on starting new. I wanted to continue to explore this new timeline.
Roster. I grew really attached to Kano in the last game and pursued it longer because I had a main and the variations for online kept the game going longer
Kameos.
Especially Kameos
DLC - it’s a big gap. I’m somewhat interested in Ermac but his design is so bad and I already know he doesn’t have a better costume from the game how it is now
With that all combined I stopped playing.
I mained kano and shao in mk11. Then in mk1 they removed kano and butchered shao.
@@okagron yeah definitely agree
i played mk1 for like 2 weeks an hour a day and then stopped lol didnt bring that nostalgic feeling playin mk in the past. bought tekken 8 waiting for that.
i also went back into MK franchise hard on MK11. I played them all but MK11 gave me a hard on, around 200 hours of singleplayer time. So when they rebooted with MK1, i thought id have Mk11 but better. Oh boy was i wrong
SF6 had more content at launch for one thing
Because they tried to fix their bad (first) launch they had with SFV. IMO SFV at their first release was even worse than this MK1 recently released 😄 FeIt even more incomplete than MK1.
But NRS now went rather on the SFV route while Capcom improved for their SF6 game.
This is really a simple answer 3 pointer
-Game feels soulless
-Kameos killed all the vibes and they suck they gave more restrictions to the gameplay than freedom and combos if you give each player 2 more special moves or even 1 you can remove Kameos and its gonna be the same they just locked the combos behind them and their button.
SF6 and tekken 8 are awesome
You were probably stomping me in online without sight as well
None taken don’t worry 🙏 I only lost my sight back in 2019 so before that I’d just been playing normally.

And to think some people thought MK1 deserved to be Fighting Game of the Year 2023 LOL
I'd add that the environments are too nice/normal. I mean, tropical hotels. Wtf? Then there's the Switch debacle...
this exactly what happened with MKX & MK11 too. hell MK1 steam numbers in the first few months better than both of them in the first months of their life cycle.

you’re right on everything but the dlc characters lol. we can’t actually know why they pick them, and they aren’t bad picks.

WB just wants a quick buck and they got it
@@crimsonite2044 Pretty much you summed it (plenty of it). That is what it was (or still is) this MK1 for them. A way to make some quick bucks 😄
I will give my bucks too ..but rather when they will release a Komplete / UItimate / Legendary (whatever the name of that complete) edition of this MK1 (will be).
I get changing a game up to keep it fresh, but they just made a genre that already exists... and they have much more experience in it
Your comment is very low-key the truth!
i actually like the gameplay more than 11 but what killed it for me is the skins locked behind micro transactions and the invasions mode being a limited time mode each season.
If they could've just done a free roam MKD style mode it would be so great
Bring back the gameplay from deception and Armageddon! The arena fighter with interactive backgrounds
Tons of people afraid of motion inputs jumped into the game either online or world tour and loved it
It also doesn't help that the Assists feel a lot more restricted and situational than in MVC series, for example.
For Example:
Old MK Lore - Kuai Liang & Bi-Han were born in America to a Chinese cryomancer & American mother.
Felt. I hate that it feels like of all the fighting games lately that MK is somehow the one that always gets pushed down for its own reasons
It always seems to lack content now and even when all the DLC stuff is done it’s like it feels like something is missing. It’s so sad to me.
I feel like MK one has no modern features compared to the new fighting games SF6, GGST, GBFVSR and TK8
@thetruestar6348 forget about new fighting games, it can't even compete with its own past games.
I feel like MK is still overlying on the flanderized Gore to carry it thru. It relies on the gimmick of ever increasing Gore instead of really making the game stand on its own like the 3D era tried to
The constant fatal blows really slow the game down. Once you see em a few times it gets old real fast
These new MK games just can't touch MK9. That was such a great game. Loved the tag gameplay, the characters, the story, the mini games. Top notch
That game sucks, buggy, monetized, imba, and an awful plot
everything you said is actually the reason people love that game so idk what you are on@@TYR1139
@@TYR1139you didn’t have to buy Krystal’s to unlock more than 2 outfits or pay for a fatal
Just like MK9 can't touch MK3
I still go back to watching old MKX plays every once in a while that game is so fun to watch
Facts 💯!!!!
The visuals are a downgrade for sure, Mortal Kombat should look like a fantasy/metal band cover art, not a bunch of semirealistic actors wearing "realistic costumes".
Mk11 had good writing 💀💀💀
Mk 11 is beautiful, I bought mk1 just to play story mode basically, maybe I come back when homelander gets released.
Yeah, every time a fighting game starts catering to the competitive scene, it invariably _kills_ its casual playerbase.
Even the competitive scene questions those characters.
A grappler with the best projectile?
Sareena range at half charge?
I found mk1 boring I already dropped it and went back to mk11
@@Distortia1994 Really, when any genre caters to the competitive scene, it falls off. Pro players don't want a fun game, they want a game they can win. The love of money ruins everything.
You should lose in fighting games if you suck, my problem is kameos like Stryker, Kano and Sektor just play neutral for the player, they don’t need good fundamentals the Kameo does everything for them, and if they fuck up kano ball to cover, it’s very brain dead and stale to me I feel like it’s stripped a lot of the skill aspects of a fighting game.
