While I agree the cartoon did a better job with Sokka and Suki…I disagree with with the assessment that Suki is meek because she fell for the foreign kid
Suki point of view: never left a village of all women, training fighting her entire life, she is straight, good looking charming boy her age comes to the village and respects the craft she’s been training in her entire life, Mom kinda forbids is a little, and she is a 16 year old girl in the most hormonal part of her life…not meek in my opinion just because she wanted to feel “girly” for a bit and say something, that while may be hyperbolic, is something sweet for her crush to remember
I don’t know what it is about our culture that we have to vilify traditional feelings everyone has

Aang literally said he’s not ready to bend, and seconds later you’re like on the couch yelling at him to waterbend. You may enjoy the series more if you stop comparing it to the animated series. Don’t look out for dialogue, characters, storylines and be mad when they don’t provide. We always have the OG series. I think you’ll enjoy the ride more if you just watch what the series is trying to do. Hope you stick it out. It’s worth it.

We actually are enjoying the series despite not agreeing with all the choices being made. Even in the moment you're referencing we're all laughing & enjoying ourselves. It may not be the reaction you're looking for, but it's our authentic reaction.
Personally, I said in episode 1 the core of the characters carrying over is most important to me. The core of Aang's arc is not just learning to face his responsibilities as the avatar, but also learning to directly face his own emotions. Similarly to Zuko, who guises his shame w/ anger & pride, Aang hides from his feelings of shame & grief by distracting himself w/ fun. Bending is fun to Aang🤷🏻‍♂️
It's strange for me to see Zuko & Aang both processing their emotions so well this early in the show when that's a major part of their character arcs.
Regardless of the critiques I have, I love this franchise and I'm very excited to see their vision for the rest of this season! & I'm ready to embrace the differences, but I'm gonna continue referencing the source material, because this live action adaptation doesn't exist in a vacuum. It may be an alternate reality in the Avatar universe, but it's not an alternate reality in ours! ✌🏼-Austin

I also think they’re really trying to establish Aang as a true 12 year old. It’s been like six seconds since he was told he was the savior of the world. It’s going to be a journey not a race. He has a mental block he has to overcome before he can even think about becoming an avatar.

Exactly! Literally a 12 year old losing all his people to genocide and blaming himself for it whilst a bunch of adults just yelling at him to suck it up lol. In real life, overcoming trauma of this sort is unimaginable even for full-blown adults, and takes a lifetime to heal.

Um I'm kinda wondering why the title says Autism and not Autistic
