The Sisters Of Mercy "Gimme Shelter" live at Royal Albert Hall, London 1985

- This video of the Sisters cover of the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" is taken from the same 1985 London show as the TSOM concert tape "Wake" but wasn't included. This is the last concert of the "First And Last And Always" TSOM. Gary Marx had already left the band leaving a trio of Andrew, Wayne Hussey, Craig Adams and of course Dr Avalanche. This video was handheld from the audience and is a rip from an old VHS tape so the video is not the greatest at spots but the sound is pretty good.
I love rolling stones, but I think this version suits better the atmosphere of the song!
Hmm. Great cover though.
Yes
Eldrich was a genius, so under rated as a song writer and singer, just watch, bloody superb, he gives it his all.
But.....Not an Eldrich composition.Perhaps Jagger / Richard's f>nes/
Well, back in the 80s till middle of the 90s I was a big fan of them, he was a really fascinating Frontman with a very sexy, deep voice but today he's lost all of it🙈. He's totally changed and I'm not happy about this😔.
@@melaniejurgens6551Shit happens.
I was part of the BATCAVE club in London. This brings back incredible memories.
Fantastic version . Absolutely gothic and Eldridge was the perfect frontman.
Master!

"Gimme Shelter"
Oh, a storm is threat'ning
My very life today
If I don't get some shelter
Oh yeah, I'm gonna fade away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Ooh, see the fire is sweepin'
Our very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost your way
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
The floods is threat'ning
My very life today
Gimme, gimme shelter
Or I'm gonna fade away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
I tell you love, sister, it's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
Kiss away, kiss away

He was so good in younger years... 👍🤘 Now the live acts.. Hmm 🤔
Love immer Katastrophe:) 5x Probiert
The Rolling Stones version is good but, The Sisters Of Mercy EVEN BETTER!!! MUCH BETTER it has that sound that The Stones can't or could achieve. But, it was there own way of performing it as The Sisters have their own style aswell. It sounds like it was ment to be a GOTHIC song in the first place It just wasn't The Stones way to do it as Gothic.
I wish the crowd could be quieter...
He was the true cloven-hoofed one before Mr Cave.
You need to read some rock history; Nick had made territory his own long before this. ua-cam.com/video/yaWn0qcRYFA/v-deo.html
DVD ?
*_The video was called 'Wake' and it contains this entire 1985 London RAH concert by the Sisters._*
Does anyone know what type of hat is the lead singer wearing?
Looks like it could be a black, Australian Akubra hat. I remember Goth singers of the period wore different broad-brimmed hats like black wire-brimmed Granny Sun hats (The Cult/Sisters), Akubra Hats (Sisters/Fields of Nephilim) and Spanish Gaucho hats (Wayne Hussey/The Mission). Figure the bands had to work with what was available (as this was before eBay ) so big brimmed Stetsons stayed overseas with the US bands (Ministry).
*_Andrew Eldritch said he found that hat in a junk second-hand store in Las Vegas. It's one of a kind. You won't find them in shops._*
Ah, those were the days. Pity what has become of them.
flasbackalternatives !

"THE GOTH FATHERS"!!!
decent cover version for the intended audience.... much else?
peter murphy copy
The lead singer sounds like a poor imitation of Bowie. I'm giving it a thumbs down.
i'm giving u a thumbs down
He was a personal friend of Bowie and even interviewed him for a magazine, but he never tried to copy him.
He was influenced by him but cmon Andrew was legendary here!
