I've never seen anyone interpret this movie as being all in Scott's head before. When George watches other comic book movies, does he assume that the superheroes are all really just regular people who are only imagining that they have powers?
That would be a level on which you could read such movies, sure, especially as they are simply power fantasies at their base. Isn't that genre-deconstruction movie with Rainn Wilson about that? "Super", I think?
To be fair there is a deleted/gag end credit scene on the DVD where Scott Pilgrim is wanted for the murder of multiple world famous music artists, an actor, a music mogul and dozens of others. Could be a good idea for another series if Brian Lee O'Malley ever got the itch to go back to this universe.
I would have thought 'based on a comic book' would have been some place they'd be aware of before going in and to not try to think too deeply about it. Not that comic books can't be deep just - this is clearly all VERY stylized and not some sort of mental health commentary.
George had the same sort of issue with Monty Python and the Holy Grail. But who are we to criticize and say he is wrong, even if he is very wrong. His interpretations and opinions are just as valid as ours, even if he’s wrong in all respects. 😉 Keep on, George. Ignore the haters-even when they’re right and you’re wrong. 👍
Fun fact: the exchange "Big fan" "Why wouldn't you be?" is based on actual conversation Edgar Wright had backstage with Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, lead singer of the band The Hives. And if you know anything about The Hives and Howlin' Pelle's stage persona, that is totally on-brand for them/him. ;)
The song that Envy Adams sings is a real song. 'Black Sheep' by Metric. I'd never heard of Metric until this movie and now I'm obsessed with them they are epic. (Also: that's actually Brie Larson singing it. I had no idea she was a singer before she became an actress... if you watch her audition tape it sounds exactly. like. that. )
So glad you liked this one. It didn't get nearly enough love when it premiered but has found a new cult following. All Edgar Wright's movies have been great so far, easily one of the most talented directors working today. Also, it was really nice seeing George and Simone in the same room.
Such an underrated movie. I saw it in cinemas and was there alone with literaly two other people. From the first trailer until today I love this movie. Edgar Wright is one of my favourite directors and the actors played their part so well, especially Kieran Culkin as Wallace. Or simply the Starpower of Chris Evans, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Brandon Rough, Brie Larson, Aubrey Plaza and Thomas Jane
A lot of those people weren't even that big at the time. It's very interesting that so many went on to tremendous success while demonstrating incredible skill and talent.

My favorite all time movie without a doubt. Edgar Wright and the style is just so new and creative to I keep going back to it for 10-11 years straight, there literally isn’t a movie with this kinda style that works so beautifully
I love how the director brought in actors who either played hero's in live action movies or would go on the play parts in other franchise and or sci-fi shows. There was (Chris Evens-Captain America and the human torch) (Mary Elizabeth Winstead-Royal Pane, Huntress) (Brie Larson-Captain Marvel) (Brandon Routh-Superman, Ray Palmer) (Thomas Jane-The Punisher) (Alison Pill-Star Trek) This was very meta. Actors playing comic book characters who played live action version of other alternate universe versions of themselves. LOL This movies kind of nailed the multiverse before it was a thing. lol
This is based from a comic book. The fight actually happen like this, its not in his head. Kim even say in the comics that Scott is the strongest fighters in the province
The line where Wallace tells Lucas "Big Fan." and Lucas says "Why wouldn't you be" is based on an actual conversation between Edgar Wright and the lead singer of The Hives.
Bonus Bonus Bonus Fun Fact: Scott Pilgrim was named after a song from the band Plumtree! The song is in the soundtrack and Scott wears one of their T-Shirts!

Love this reaction channel. It's one of the best channels with a pair of people reacting. Simone & George have the right combination of personalities for this.
It's crazy how tripped up George can get. He asks a little too many questions and doesn't take it for what it is. This leads to them misinterpreting something, or flat out missing information that would have helped him with their questions.
So lets clear this up because lots of commenters have already said it. NOTHING in this movie is a metaphor. The super powers the crazy deaths everything is literal. This is why you read comics and play Nintendo.
My wife, gf at the time, and I saw this midnight premier. Coming out of the movie with the night summer air was such a great memory for us. This movie had the full theater dying throughout the movie. I consider this a classic
The soundtrack has so much music than that. Beck only wrote Sex Bob-Omb's songs, although that does include several songs. Envy's song was by Metric. The twins song were by Broken Social Scene. Then there were other soundtrack songs by other famous artists.
My wife and I went to Toronto for our anniversary (we met there and had our first dates there) and as part of it we went to Cassa Loma. We went up the stairs on Davenport Road coming to the back end of Cassa Loma. It was near the end of April, but when we got to the top it looked like it was January. Beautiful white snow all around, except it wasn't snow, it was large sheets of foam that looked like snow but you had to touch it to tell it wasn't snow. There was a lot of lighting equipment and other things set up. We saw a guy working on some stuff and asked what was up, they were setting up to film the Cassa Loma scenes for this movie (evil X #2).
Simone & George, Fun Fact: When you get your hands on the comic book/video game of this story, the locations in the comic & game are drawn from actual locations in Toronto, as well as some of the songs in the movie were written by the artist "Beck". Yeah, there have other movies filmed in "video game" mode, but this live action version of the story film in "the mysterious land of Toronto, Canada" makes this film stand alone from the others. I've been a subscriber to your channel for a short while & seeing you two in the same room for this reaction video made it that more special. GREAT REACTION VIDEO YOU TWO!!! I absolutely LOL when Simone says: All these time jumps are crazy. Maybe it just shows that he's really distracted?" George responds: "I mean that's what I felt when I was on shrooms." Simone: "What are shrooms? That's weird? I've never heard that word before." CLASSIC!!!
Michael Cera actually had to dumb down his guitar playing because Scott is supposed to be an average guitar player. This film was a commercial flop when it was released in 2010. Which is sad because this is one of Edgar Wright's most unique films in a very unique filmography. As stated it is based of the 6 part series(which was actually incomplete when the film waa in production). Also this film has an INCREDIBLY stacked cast. Also, yes EVERYONE loves Wallace, who is played by the brother of MacKully Cullkin
Y'all don't get there's actual 'magic' in this? The Subspace thingies, real. The figths, real. The way his sister censors herself, real. The fact that people can suddenly appear somewhere, like Envy did, or have super speed, like his sister, real. The fact he also put on his hat magically from in one cut when Envy calls his hair shaggy, real. Nothing is imagined.
I recently showed this to my 14 year old son. As the movie started his reactions were: "Uhmmm... dad, what is this?" "Dad? What the..??" "DAD! WHAT ARE WE WATCHING??" ...(an hour of stunned silence).. After the credits, In a subdued voice: "...dad,.... WHY HAVE WE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE?? THAT WAS CRAZY!!"
As others have stated, none of this is in his mind. The actual reality of the fights is what you are seeing. Imagine it basically being a live action anime type thing.
It's funny listening to these two, they discuss topics and have a 'particular view' of said topics that was not discussed at all when I was their age in the late 90's early 00's.
i Love the soundtrack, esp those tracks by beck and obviously Black Sheep Btw nobody mentioned yet, that Scott beat Captain America and made out with Captain Marvel ? ;)
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Its rare that you see a movie where a dude is learning to take responsibility for his shitty actions. Its something that's guided me for a large part of my life now and it saddens me when people misinterpret it as a neckbeard circle jerk.
I know that you all confused especially that it was NOT IN HIS HEAD. It's like a reality but of course, the symbolism with the fights and the effects with the mix of reality of the real world.
I live in a suburb city attached to Vancouver. I used to see a movie set pretty much every 2 months. I rented vhs from the same place as at least 1 x files cast. When I worked 7-11, I rang through more than a few coffee refills in xfiles staff mugs. Then the world fell apart….
It blows my mind how many people get upset that Scott didn't end up with Knives. The wholenthing is that Scott and Romona are both kinda shit and hurt everyone around them which is why they belong together.
I'm not sure what Ramona did, particularly. Seems more like her exes are trying to control her. Scott starts as a dick, sure, but he's at least trying to be better by the end, and making some amends for his past sins. That's about the best most of us can do, and better than many of us are currently doing. It is weird that people would want the obviously-exploitative relationship between Scott and Knives to continue. They could be friends, maybe, if Scott became less manipulative and discouraged the immature starry-eyed worship from Knives. As it stands, the relationship is pretty abusive. Maybe people think Knives' intense desire for Scott (or, at least, her idealized/romanticized version of him as "the cool guy", generally) should be rewarded, based on past personal experiences with unrequited interest? Even that's quite toxic, though, as Knives isn't actually interested in Scott as a person (she gets something of a pass on that because, y'know, 17, and on the immature/inexperienced side, to boot). If you actually love someone who doesn't return the feeling in the manner you might hope, you tend to think about what's best for them, not for you.
@@chrisbergsten1429 This is a very good interpretation. I’d also throw in something that you didn’t make explicit: the evil exes are evil . . . to whom? Something that I realized about my long line of crazy exes (who all seemed like wonderful people at the beginning of our relationships) was that they all had one thing in common: Me. Maybe I was the crazy one, maybe I made them crazy. Maybe it was me that was cruel and toxic. The reality (of my life) is that it was probably a mix, a meshing of our crazy gears. Regardless, I have to accept that I have been a piece of shit in my relationships with others-if there is joint blame, it’s better not to dwell on that. It’s better to focus on what I can change, which is me and my defects.

well its based on what u expect no need to be condescending
It’s not in his head. This is how the comic looks. It’s not meant to be seriously taken at all.
It does have serious themes though, and most of this turns out to be Scott in denial, making his bad memories into videogame nonsense.
@@xsanguine8 Oh very fair and correct. I was merely addressing the hosts confusion if it was real or a dream or what not.
Fun fact: the exchange "Big fan" "Why wouldn't you be?" is based on actual conversation Edgar Wright had backstage with Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, lead singer of the band The Hives. And if you know anything about The Hives and Howlin' Pelle's stage persona, that is totally on-brand for them/him. ;)
Binged a lot of your reactions last few days and you 2 really are great. Helping with depression thx
It's not imagination vs reality, this is happening. It's a video game movie, Scott is legitimately blasting people into coins.
And then those people wake up in their beds as a better person.
@@michaelccozens yes, most of them weren‘t household names like they are today, but some had big roles in by the time not so big superhero movies. Chris Evans was the human torch, Brandon Rough was Superman, Thomas Jane was the punisher
I saw this movie in theaters with a friend of mine, under the influence of some potent shit, unfortunately I wasn't really paying attention to the movie by the time the really cool trippy stuff happened cuz I was super hot on the friend I saw it with
Wallace is the best character in this movie. Man I love the edit and transitions in this film so much
The fights ARE reality. It’s just best not to think about it or take it too seriously.
It's an Edgar Wright movie. "Over-thinking it" isn't really a thing.
@@michaelccozens precisely
@@CrownlessKing88 I think you may have taken exactly the opposite meaning from my statement instead of what's actually there.
Well what I’m saying is they WERE thinking too much about it. Saying “is this real, is it his imagination?“ etc.
One of those movies that should have been MASSIVE but hardly anyone went to see. A damn shame. Because it is awesome.
Hey, if it can happen to Big Trouble In Little China, it can happen to anything.
19:02 -- girl who plays First Daughter in Independence Day. All grown up!
Also, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and Captain America (Chris Evans) in the same movie before all their Marvel movies? 🤔
ALSO, LOTS of Smashing Pumpkins references throughout the film.
They recently had the 10th anniversary for the movie and most of the actors minus a couple did a table read over zoom for the whole movie and it was JUST AS FUN AS THE MOVIE! Absolutely loved it!
I started watching the table zoom, then realized it wasn't as good as the original. So I turned it off, and streamed the movie itself. Lol
I was told think of it like a musical but instead of break out singing....it's fighting. Makes perfect sense.
My favorite all time movie without a doubt. Edgar Wright and the style is just so new and creative to I keep going back to it for 10-11 years straight, there literally isn’t a movie with this kinda style that works so beautifully
Quite a few superhero actors in this - Superman, Captain Marvel, Captain America, Human Torch, The Atom, The Punisher and Huntress
Captain America and the Human Torch are the same actor heh.
@@stynershiner1854 yup, so is Atom and Supermans
Good seeing you both react to this. One of my fave movies, all Edgar Wright's movies are instant classics. :)
He isn't imagining anything, that's just how the film is.
Fun facts: Sex Bbombs songs were written by Beck. The catchy song is by a really cool band called Metric.
LOL This movies kind of nailed the multiverse before it was a thing. lol
I think it's hilarious that this went right over your heads . It's a great movie and the editing is amazing
This is based from a comic book. The fight actually happen like this, its not in his head.
Kim even say in the comics that Scott is the strongest fighters in the province
Fun Fact: The Katayanagi Twins’ dials go up to 11 as a reference to the spoof film This Is Spinal Tap!
scott's roommate is the younger brother of the actor who mplayed kevin in home alone , he played kevin's cousin
Fun Fact: the actor who played Knives was the youngest character but the oldest actor of the group.
Watching through some of your older videos and upon clicking this one... I think this might have been the very first one of your videos I saw! You guys are great :)
You guys are on roll with all the great movies! This is amongst my favorite movie ever. Its interesting that Scott's character evolves as you grow older and you see him as a loser and a creep now.
The band that does Black Sheep, the song that Envy sings at the concert, is called Metric. They are a band from Canada that is completely awesome👌🏿
One of the best films ever, it is always unforgivable it didnt have as much widespread appeal as it deserved.
Remember when you were a teenager and everything was ramped up to 11 that's what this film captures.
@@biggains1 i totally get ya buddy.
@@alanhilton3611 yeah but its not just him being a teenager and amping these things up in his head.
these things are actually happening. this fictional world works like that.
read the comics if you would like to know more. for example. when she said her EX punched a hole in the moon that was legit and really happened.
Literally my favorite movie, i watch this at least once a year, it kinda brings me back to my childhood cause its so fun and also has lowkey life lessons
Love this reaction channel. It's one of the best channels with a pair of people reacting. Simone & George have the right combination of personalities for this.
I'd love to see them watch "John Dies at The End."
The Clash At Demonhead song is called Black Sheep, by the band Metric, but with Brie Larson actually doing the vocals. It's a great song.
Another fun fact. Roxie is the same actress that played the president's daughter in independence day that you posted last week.
It's crazy how tripped up George can get. He asks a little too many questions and doesn't take it for what it is.
This leads to them misinterpreting something, or flat out missing information that would have helped him with their questions.
I watched this video 2 years ago. Yet here I am watching it again.
"chicken isnt vegan?" one of the lines i still quote often
This movie NEEDS to be watched in a theatre. the amount of great young actors (and actresses') that have come out of this movie is pretty awesome.
So lets clear this up because lots of commenters have already said it. NOTHING in this movie is a metaphor. The super powers the crazy deaths everything is literal. This is why you read comics and play Nintendo.
I want the same bass guitar as Scott someday! It's a Rickenbacker 4001c64 in the comics, and a Rickenbacker 4003 in the movie!
My wife, gf at the time, and I saw this midnight premier. Coming out of the movie with the night summer air was such a great memory for us. This movie had the full theater dying throughout the movie. I consider this a classic
Love that you're in person for this one!
All the original music was written and supervised by Beck and performed by the actors themselves
The soundtrack has so much music than that. Beck only wrote Sex Bob-Omb's songs, although that does include several songs. Envy's song was by Metric. The twins song were by Broken Social Scene. Then there were other soundtrack songs by other famous artists.
So Ramona's ex girlfriend is played by Katara's voice actress
I love this movie. It came out the day before my birthday. I listened to that Black Sheep cover every day for months after this movie came out.
Oh my dudes... that's not in his mind. That world it's just that videogamey xD
He's not imagining all this happening to him. This is just how the world they live in is.
This IS reality. This is based on a comic and videogame
FUN FACT: 19:00 She's the voice of Katara on Avatar: The Last Airbender
I love how literal you guys are interpreting this film LOL.
The music from this movie is absolute fire…great video…good to see you guys having so much fun.
~11:00 - "It's gotta be in his head, right?"
LMAO heh. yeaahhh, uh.
The Scott Pilgrim graphic novels are in many libraries if you don't want to spend $100 on them.
The fights aren't in his head; this is all happening
Y'all don't get there's actual 'magic' in this? The Subspace thingies, real. The figths, real. The way his sister censors herself, real. The fact that people can suddenly appear somewhere, like Envy did, or have super speed, like his sister, real. The fact he also put on his hat magically from in one cut when Envy calls his hair shaggy, real. Nothing is imagined.
His sister?
This film is a bona fide masterpiece, glad yall liked it.
You have to be older and played videogames in your childhood to really start loving this movie when you get all the references :)
I recently showed this to my 14 year old son. As the movie started his reactions were:
"Uhmmm... dad, what is this?"
"Dad? What the..??"
"DAD! WHAT ARE WE WATCHING??"
...(an hour of stunned silence)..
After the credits, In a subdued voice:
"...dad,.... WHY HAVE WE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE?? THAT WAS CRAZY!!"
omg, my favorite movie. i try not to watch it too often because i like this movie so very much.
All of these are not from his imaginations. All the fights and stories are real. And also this movie is based on a comic book, so it makes sense.
Well it took abit from both novel and game.
i think edgar wright said that the defeated exes respawn back to their room
As others have stated, none of this is in his mind. The actual reality of the fights is what you are seeing. Imagine it basically being a live action anime type thing.
It's funny listening to these two, they discuss topics and have a 'particular view' of said topics that was not discussed at all when I was their age in the late 90's early 00's.
It's great to see you two together, cool reaction & you both take care
Fellow Canadian here. Another fun reaction, but I'm sure I'm not the only one sad we didn't get to hear Simone on the drums.
i Love the soundtrack, esp those tracks by beck
and obviously Black Sheep
Btw nobody mentioned yet, that Scott beat Captain America and made out with Captain Marvel ? ;)
He bet superman too. The vegan ex was played by Brandon Routh that was superman back in 2006
So many Easter eggs in this film. My favorite is all the fighters have numbers, including Scott. Scott wears zero t-shirt and drinks coke zero.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Its rare that you see a movie where a dude is learning to take responsibility for his shitty actions. Its something that's guided me for a large part of my life now and it saddens me when people misinterpret it as a neckbeard circle jerk.
The movie is based off a graphic novel. So everything actually happened
I know that you all confused especially that it was NOT IN HIS HEAD. It's like a reality but of course, the symbolism with the fights and the effects with the mix of reality of the real world.
Excellent... can't wait. You should watch Edgar Wright's "Baby Driver" as well...
He’s such a great director. I’m really looking forward to seeing Last Night in Soho.
Baby Driver is great. Just a shame the cast is a bit cursed
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 It's a great movie.
Hell yes!
Only one of his movies that let me down TBH. Had high hopes and found myself not liking it at all.
It's amazing how many comic book movie actors/actresses are in this.
I live in a suburb city attached to Vancouver. I used to see a movie set pretty much every 2 months. I rented vhs from the same place as at least 1 x files cast. When I worked 7-11, I rang through more than a few coffee refills in xfiles staff mugs.
Then the world fell apart….
That is just how the universe works in the novel. It would be hilarious too if not.
I think part of the issue to me is that I just don't get the appeal of Ramona for Scott. They don't even seem to enjoy their time together.
one of my favorite movies of all time
I just love the editing style of Edgar Wright in general, plus his visual comedy :)
