The Rolling Stones - My Obsession (Letra Ingles // Español)

The narrator is an obsessed man. He is madly in love with the girl in front of him and he wants her to be his, to belong only to him. He wants to be her teacher, that is, introduce her to the pleasures of her love, and he makes it absolutely clear: With me you would be better / And you will know it when you have lost him. And then: A [possession] that you must give away/Give it to me now I have no objection. From obsession to madness is but a small step, and the delirious would-be lover takes this step at the end of the song: I didn't see you were so young/I could almost be your son. “A song like ‘My Obsession’ might as well have been titled ‘My Unbridled Lust,’ but Jagger/Richards had at least a modicum of subtlety,” writes Eric V. D. Luft. Mick Jagger's own opinion of this number would change over time: “'My Obsession,' that's a good one. They [this and ‘Connection’] sounded really good, but then later on I was really disappointed.”
“My Obsession” is a curious combination of R&B, Phil Spector and psychedelia. As with so many Stones songs, Charlie Watts opens with a heavy, hypnotic beat. Brian Jones probably did not play any role in the recording. Then a fuzz guitar played by Keith Richards (his Gibson “Gold Top” Les Paul?) comes in, and it revolves around a particular hook throughout the number. Bill Wyman also plays fuzz on his Vox Wyman bass, but it's Ian Stewart who gives the number its musical color with an excellent, occasionally dissonant boogie-woogie piano part. During the session at the RCA studios, Lou Adler took Brian Wilson to see the Stones, whom he had not yet met.
Mick offered him a joint, which he couldn't refuse. And then he sat on a couch to watch: “Influenced by marijuana, I thought that 'My Obsession' was the best rock and roll song I had ever heard, and when I managed to get home, a good few hours after having been In the studio, I felt like the Stones had kicked me in the butt. I just didn't see how the Beach Boys were going to compete. “I canceled on Tony and stayed in bed for two days straight, smoking marijuana and licking my wounds.” However, this did not stop him from writing “Good Vibrations” when he finally got up. What is immediately obvious about “My Obsession” is the quality of the vocal harmonies. Could Mr. Wilson have lent the band a hand?
