I was 9 yrs old in '63 when I first heard the Beatles. Ringo made them go, every song sounded like it was going a thousand miles per hour. And Ringo was the most humorous, very witty. Ringo Starr is the Yogi Berra of Rock N Roll.

On July 7, 2040, Ringo, you'll be 100 years old! Just continue doing what you're doing now and you'll make it with plenty time to spare!

Ringo's the legendary timekeeper. Anything else he does is icing on the cake. All those years with the Beatles; whatever they were doing, clear or unsure, he filled it in. His All-Star bands have been the perfect foil for Ringo, drumming or singing.

Loved this documentary which highlighted with great clarity the significance of Ringo as a drummer, as a Beatle, as a drummer in the Beatles and as an authentic and kind human being. In 1970 I got my first set of drums and became a drummer because of Ringo. Ringo's energy and initiative and carrying on with his career into his 80's is an inspiration for all.

❤🥁 Ringo is amazing because he was the first Rock n Roll Drummer to play in the forefront of the material they created. He was not a side man. He was the first Drummer to do so many different creative things on a drum kit. Things all Drummer's are still using all the time, and half of them probably don't realize that Ringo Starr invented a lot of what we all play. His gorgeous Wife Barbara Bach, a one time James Bond girl keeps him young. I know she could do that for me. ❤🥁 KEEP ON TRAPPIN RINGO! YOU'RE THE BEST. PEACE & LOVE

Thank you for your thumbs up 👍 I go way back with the boys. I by no means mean to be morbid, but Ringo with probably be the last remaining Beatle? He really needs to to appreciated and valued as one of the four as remaining! Ringo is low key and always was the most likable and non- controversial (in my opinion). Paul have been my fave though the years…but, has “slipped” with his political motions. Everyone has a wright to there thoughts and choices…but, Ringo has played it absolutely perfect! If you really want peace and tranquility? Don’t start shit! You’re a historical public figure! Weather you like it or not? You have to act like one! Peace and Love ✌️❤️

He was a spectacular drummer on the early songs that made them famous. All the early hits are Ringo-driven. He practically wrote the book on Rock n Roll stage 2. He was not like Rock N Roll 1 from the 50s, though it formed a basis that he ran with. And he literally RAN with the Beatles. Those early songs are beyond infectious, because of his drumming and John and Paul's vocal blend. The dude swang like a monkey through the jungle.

Ringo was really the force behind the Beatles. If you compare the recordings of Pete Best against Ringo's contribution, you'll notice a major difference. Ringo played hard which drove the other guys to play hard. He complimented the music without being too busy, sometimes by creating space w/out playing. He was their 'seasoning', while keeping a solid rhythm only where he was needed. By far the best drummer ever for the Beatles. So much in fact I feel they wouldn't have been taken as serious without him. Remember that the record itself has to move you at first, before the song. And the Beatles made some hot records, thanks to Ringo's contribution.

I love this, thank you. One of my favorite songs of all time is…It Don’t Come Easy, it says it all for me. Ringo and George are both my favorites of the Beatles….When I first heard them, my attention quickly shifted to Ringo and the drums….it was his playing style of those drums which caught my attention, and every song was enhanced by those drums and Ringo’s techniques. This also helped influence me in deciding to play the drums myself and other percussion instruments. During my time with a band playing music for nursing home residents, I played 3 tambourines at one time, including a multiple cymbal which would attach to the top of a cymbal over upon a drum, and each had a different pitch and tonal sound of its own. I was heading for 4 of them when our band split up because of life changing circumstances among the members. I also had a pair of bongos, maracas and other percussion instruments, all because of Ringo and the drums he played. I was even allowed to play drums at a special Native American service with prayers. Ringo is and will always be my mentor and the unique talented drummer and musician he is famous for. Love and peace Ringo, may your love for music and drums continue to inspire others….👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🇺🇸🥰

1, he was the most musical of drummers. 2, his drum parts are not easy to figure out let alone play--I can speak to that as drummer. 3, he was the "average guy" in the most important musical act ever, drawing in an ever larger audience. 4, he was a peacemaker in a band filled with huge egos that might have come apart without him. And 5, when he says "peace and love," his life story proves he really means what he says. This is a fine documentary--thanks for producing it.

As I’ve heard it, Ringo was given songs appropriate to his limited vocal range for 2 reasons. It completed the ‘four-headed monster’ aspect of the Beatles: they could ALL play & sing, which was almost unheard of, & it gave John, Paul, & George a chance to rest their voices during live shows. By “Revolver” they started writing tunes with Ringo in mind, thus “Yellow Submarine” & “With A Little Help…”. And like George, he improved greatly as the group matured. Ringo is a fantastic stylized drummer; he contributed the perfect signature licks for the Beatles’ songs, & his high hat playing is furious in the early stuff.

Just an FYI. It was George that got the "shiner", at Ringo's first Cavern gig. Well publicised story.

They wouldn't have made it without him. His drumming and personality were essential. He's a wonderful unorthodox drummer - others are technically better, not a soul on earth would say otherwise. But they couldn't have done what he did

August, 1963, was when Ringo replaced Pete Best, though he had subbed in with them a few times before them (to each of the frontmen's acclaim). Ringo did not get punched--Pete Best's fans got into it with the Beatles and George Harrison scored the black eye.
Ringo: "Yeah, well George wasn't always a guru." As John Lennon put it, "I brought Paul in, he brought George in, and George brought in Ringo."
Lots of tenderness between those two and I agree--without Ringo, the band never have gotten off the ground. The Beatles needed an innovative drummer who never missed a beat and they found him in Ringo.
p.s. as re. smoking pot with Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney pushed Ringo to try it first...whether he did so willingly is up for debate.

7:54 - That's not Pete Best. That's Johnny Hutchinson of The Big Three who filled in a few times in the days before Ringo.
9:52 - George got the black eye, not Ringo.

Ringo wrote exactly two songs as a Beatle: "Don't Pass Me By" and "Octopus's Garden." Otherwise he sang quite a few songs - either written by Lennon & McCartney or as cover tunes; and his publishing deal did not include "You're Sixteen" and "Photograph" which were both written by other songwriters.
