This is my second video of yours (the first thing the Boulder one with weights). I have to say you kicked my butt just now! 😊 I am relatively new spinning because as a runner with a sprained ankle that doesn’t seem to want to go away, I needed something to keep up my cardio. Between the spin classes I’ve taken at the gym in a couple of other UA-cam videos I’ve watched this class was by far the hardest. Loved it! We have the same spin bikes you use in the video. Is there a certain number of turns you do to get from one number to the Next? Like at a level three and you go to a level five is that just two full turns? Like I said, I’m new to this and I swear going from my three to a nine (heck I don’t even know what three is supposed to be) if I had to do six full turns, I would probably die LOL. Also, I track my mileage and since I have had to switch from running to spinning for the time being, I was curious if you had a guesstimate as to the approximate number of miles say this class would be. Of course I know it depends on how fast or slow go, but just as a general number. And I like how in your videos, you show RPMs too and I would like to be able to try to ride along with them. I have a foot pod for my running shoes that helps track my miles and it works with my watch but it doesn’t work on a bike. Since I don’t own the bike because it belongs to the gym, I can’t buy a speed sensor or computer to mount to it permanently. I bought a speed sensor that mounts to the crank, but I can never get it to work. Is there any particular product you would recommend? Thanks again for an awesome video. Can’t wait to do it again.❤
Phoenix is tough!!!! You're so fit! Awesome work, Joy!!! I'm sorry to hear about your sprained ankle and I wish you all the best with your recovery. My channel actually attracts a lot of runners going through injury recovery, so you're not alone! As far as the resistance levels and knob turns, the numbers that I call out are just subjective based on feeling. You create the levels based on your own fitness level and spin bike. Every bike is different! Over time, you just learn what your level 7, level 8, etc. should feel like. Full knob turns on our spin bike is way too much for fine-tuned adjustments! I don't count the knob turns. It's an adjustment to learn your own levels. Level 3 is the baseline tension we use so I recommend starting there. Level 3 is the resistance level that gives you just enough "push-back" for leg control just rest periods and warm-ups/cool-downs. You always want to be spinning against some resistance. It shouldn't feel like a climb. Level 4,5,6 are resistance levels for sprints - enough resistance for leg control while not feeling too heavy and allowing you to get higher RPMs. Level 7 can go either way depending on if we are aiming for power or climbing. Level 8,9,10 are high resistance levels where it feels like a climb out of the saddle but not so heavy that you can't maintain a 60-80 RPM range. As far as the RPM numbers - these are just targets! It's okay if you fall outside of the numbers! As long as a sprint feels fast and a climb feels heavy, then you're getting a great workout! You should check out the Strava group for estimates on mileage (Kirsten Allen Spin Club). General number is in the 10 -15 miles probably.
