- Young Emily didn’t see anything wrong with her drawing of two girls holding hands, but her mother saw otherwise and tore both the paper and her child’s heart in two. Little did they know, the drawings had come alive and are determined to reunite with one another across the vast bedroom of pages, no matter what risk comes their way. An adventurous and heartwarming tale, “Drawn to You” shows audiences both the struggles and joy that comes with being true to your heart, and not letting others tell you who to be.

I love everything about this^^ I love the tension building as the short progresses, but still stays light hearted enough to fit with the overall soft tone. I love how much storytelling was done with no dialogue, and how leagues of meaning get across with these characters. I love the little references with the posters. I love the designs, the shading, the colors - everyone involved did a wonderful job and should be proud of this gorgeous work^^

@Catleystar So around 1:30 the flower Stickman is holding falls and lands in the page below. This establishes the first rule: drawings can travel across paper. Then it falls again, but lands outside of any paper and disintegrates. This establishes the stakes. Our protagonist will die or cease to be if they fall outside the realm of paper. That being said, she is still willing to risk it all to reunite with her love, showing the protagonist’s courage.
Generally speaking, the flower was a clever narrative trick used to establish the laws of this world’s magic system. Hopefully that clarifies things!

well, I live in Russia and generally there is no such problem. of course there are idiotic laws, stupid prohibitions that have always been and will be not only in Russia. and this topic is not allowed to spread as in the USA, for example. But I've seen boys kissing boys and girls kissing girls a bunch of times. even at school, I saw girls in the girls' locker room (from high school, of course) who kissed. and no one seemed to say anything about this topic, did not forbid it, everyone reacted calmly and there was nothing like that. but I agree that, for example, same-sex couples cannot officially get married. but It is precisely the "propaganda" and dissemination of this that is prohibited in Russia, but there is nothing against the relationship itself. (although I judge it by my city here, as in others I do not know. But considering that I live in a small city, it's probably even better in Moscow.)

When I was 8 or 9 I used to make paper toys, like videogames characters and that.
Well my mom is ultra-religious and just burned all my drawings (I had like 100) because my aunt (an ultra-mega-religious) said that they were demons and I was being controlled by them...
I literally saw my work of days and even months burn to ashes while they were "praying for my soul".

At 4:13 the photo of the mom at pride with her daughter is so adorable like it shows that her mom grew past her homophobia and honestly if that isn't the sweetest thing I don't know what is ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
We wanted to really drive home the idea that the mother truly loves her child, but wasn't realizing what she thought were good intentions were actually harming her daughter. In early drafts of the story we were going to have our main character Emily take her taped up drawing to her mother by the end, but we scratched it in favor of having the story be focused on Emily coming out to herself first, rather than to another person.
Overall, yes, the mother's love for her daughter allowed her to open to new ideas and be supportive of who she is. There can always be change, if people are willing to make the effort. We're glad audiences enjoy this happy ending for the family.

I love how you didn’t present the parent as completely awful. Some of our parents genuinely love us but don’t understand how we feel truly and they can mess up sometimes. It was nice to see a mother who loved and appreciated her daughter but was clearly confused about her daughter’s wishes.
Edit: Wow, this was awhile ago. I identify as a pansexual trans woman now and my opinion has changed slightly. As someone who is going to eventually move away from my family and cut ties since I’m closeted and can’t really be myself, I can understand more the frustration and anger towards our parents. For something so simple to understand, we have to go through so much shit. I still love my mum but I can’t help but be mad that I have to go through this and that’s ok. Coming out would put me in massive danger so the struggles of queer people are real and our anger is real too - 01/02/2023

This is beautiful. The art style is charming, the movement is fluid and the story is heartwarming. I especially love the ending! At first, I was like "Lol, she just threw away Flower Boy" but then I saw the rainbow flag and that she'd given him his own boyfriend and her mom had become accepting and she got herself a girlfriend and I was just so elated. 10/10

Almost 5 years have passed, and this is still one of the cutest and most charming cartoons on LGBT topics!^^💗 How well and pre-thought out the plot is, and the animation is so smooth and delightful that even without words it can perfectly convey all the emotions and feelings of all the characters
Hello. I'm a girl from Russia. I may not speak your language, but I understand your feelings and feelings. While watching this animation, I thought about it.
Why are we against people who stand up for LGBT people. They're human beings like us. They just have their own worldview. I may not be like them, but I will always be happy with their choice.

When her mom drew that stick guy . It reminded me of when i drew girlfriends getting married one of my friend saw that and erased one girl and quickly drew a guy in a suit. And said "Only a guy and a girl could fall in love and get married". And I realised i could never come out to my friend.

My mom has negative views on LGBTQ because of her religion. Because of this I choose not to tell her I'm gay. This kind of sucks because I'm kind of lonely and I kind of want a girlfriend.

OH MY GOD I AM SHOCKED THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST WONDERFUL ADORABLE ANIMATION I'VE SEEN IN A LOOONG TIME. loved the idea and the execution. in the beggining I thought well this is a bit silly, by the end I got actually Emotional, and during the credits seeing GIRL'S MOM AT THE PRIDE i actually teared up. Yeah. It's bad enough to have a problem if her child would be gay (something we can't know) - but it's a drawing (and an extremely modest one. if I drew a gay couple, they probably would be tastefully naked :D and it's still soft)! We don't tear other people's drawings and we can draw even bad, amoral things without being amoral ourselves. Things are very different here as being gay is perfectly normal but it's another part she did wrong. If I draw a mutilated corpse, it's fine as I didn't kill and mutilate someone in real life, I just drew it. There are limits but we can be more "free" in art and it shouldn't cause problems. But people are people...
Hating homosexuality to the point that even a possible hint at that in a very cute drawing bothers us to the point of becoming jerks... I can't imagine how such a mind works.

Keen eye! The posters in Emily's room were a mix of personal artwork done by the crew and parodies of popular shows using the director's fan OCs. "Swordslasher Miyako", otherwise known as the sword girl poster that offers her blade in support, was a parody of Cardcaptor Sakura!
OMG! I just went back to look... No wonder I thought the poster looked familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it! I even have a giant SU Season 1 version of the poster on my bedroom door... and I still didn't figure it out! 🤣
