That is nice to see the bubbling fermenting mash at 2:27. I enjoyed seeing the three pot stills at 4:40. I liked how you spoke softly while the whiskey was aging at 6:56 (the whiskey is sleeping). It was nice to see the master distiller at 8:45. He comes across as being a nice guy. Forty years of experience is impressive. I like how he says that the product is "a labor of love". This was a well done presentation. Thank you for posting it.
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked was my first bottle of higher end whiskey. Also, as of yesterday, the first whiskey where I got "sweetness" in the smell. My whiskey journey has begun and I am excited 😁
Just popped my Woodford "cherry" (11:16) tonight. I am blown away by how you can take such a complex creation and express it to the world in simplicity and no burn!
I've come to really love Woodford. Pot still bourbon and a variety of offerings, unique bottles at very reasonable price points for what you're getting- unbeatable! Their double barrel really changed things for me- so rich and sweet, almost like a rum but with the refinement of whiskey. Thanks for the video tour!
Woodford Reserve is my favorite Bourbon. I haven't had a chance to try their Rye or Double Oaked yet... I grew up in Jessamine County about 35 miles from their distillery.
Definitely it is richer than the original bourbon. If you think of 16 year old sherry based whiskey such as Aberlour with a combination of other sweet whiskies, this is what Double Oaked tastes like (in my opinion of course). I got it for Christmas, and I have to say, I became my favourite bourbon I've tasted. I love the original, but this one I have to by on occasion. It is more expensive, but definitely worth it once and a while :)
Woodford definitely has their own distinct taste. I just bought my first Woodford bottle selected by Chris Morris =D Shout outs to Chris. It's very good. I'll be going for the Double Oaked version after this bottle.
Woodford Reserve Straight Kentucky Bourbon has become my favorite bourbon. I knew right from the first nosing it was going to have amazing tasting notes. Still wanting to try the Double Oaked, it will be my next bottle.
Very impressed with the facility. Out of the handful of tours ive seen; it seems woodford looks less industrial and cleaner. Even the fermentin tub being wood and not a crumbling cement tank like on a previous tour. After watching, i will now have to pick up some woodford to try.
Drinking Woodford Reserve Double Oaked as I watch this. Nice little video, but that spring at the beginning did not look like the sweet, clear limestone water I had imagined lol.
A portion of the whiskey that they put in their base product is actually column stilled. It comes from the Brown-Foreman Louisville distillery that produces Old Forester. This was confirmed by our guide on the corn to cork tour. He couldn't tell me how much of the pot stilled distillate actually gets into the bottle. The Masters Collection is all pot stilled as are the new distillery only special releases.
Spot on, Chris should have corrected that important statement at 12:45. While Woodford is a very nice bourbon, their standard offerings are not 100% pot distilled. I find it curious how Woodford is not proactively open about this fact. They will tell you if asked directly, but they do not proactively state their whiskey is part pot-still and part column-still.
No one has showing base of Cooper distillery because want to know how the distillery is boiling the fermantaion grains by flame or by heating coil distillery are working.
No, during the fermenting the "beer" only gets up to about 8% alcohol. At that point the alcohol percentage is not enough to start evaporating, that only happens after the distillation happens.
Notice Chris called the standard Woodford Reserve a pot stilled "influenced" whiskey and he didn't say "yes" when you said "Ok, so we aren't looking at any column stilled whiskey". So he kinda obfuscated the truth by not replying to what you said and didn't lie really. But some would say holding back the truth IS a lie. I still like their whiskey when I can find it on sale.
I love Woodford Reserve - My favourite Bourbon by far - so smooth, that's the thing, - its SMOOTH - So many bourbons burn my throat, like drinking fire water. - Not Woodford. I live in the UK.
Undoubtedly one of the best bourbons! Can't escape the slightest tinge of coconut flavour which lingers around. Don't know from where it comes from........
Its 40% in Australia i have to wait for people to travel overseas and get me duty free bottles at 45.2%. It find it wierd that the woodfords guy doesnt even know the abv of his product
well im sorry but i have tasted a few different american whiskies or bourbons and unfortunately they have this nasty printer ink smell and it also comes through heavy in the taste ,perhaps it masks the supposed sweet corn or rye because im barely tasting them and although woodford is perhaps the mellowest of all the ones i tried it still has this unique signature i do not like ,perhaps its an acquired taste but canadian pure rye whisky is much sweeter and different tasting and im hoping pure corn whisky is better than when it is in bourbon style,,perhaps its the virgin wood being used but i do not find these sweet notes much in bourbons in general nor in woodford ,can someone tell me what that inky smell and taste is from,is it the barrels? anyways after taking a few sips of woodford and then going back to my bottom shelf scotches like grants or ballantines there flavours comes out and shine so mellow and sweet with caramel vanilla and brown sugar so if you need a set back reference do have some bourbon and then you will find how much better these scotches tastes afterwards once your palate has been coated by a dry leathery tobacco yanki whisky lol what you then thought of bad scotches will start to shine in sweet aroma and taste, i give up putting good money in these expensive americant whiskies
It’s been 8 years now, I think it’s time you visited these US bourbon distilleries again for an updated tour. A lot has happened in the last 8 years.

A favorite of mine. Great video and most educational.
The regular Woodford reserve is quite a spirit. Enjoying right now in fact. :-)

Double oaked is gold.. don’t tell many about it
Often replicated, never duplicated - even by their sibling, Old Forest 1910.@@donaltemus3565
I wish I was Horst's son and could be sent on these vists
Isn't everyone?
Damn yummy stuff! One of my favorite bourbons!
I'm enjoying 3 fingers on the rocks at this very moment. My favorite sipping bourbon.
Honestly one of the only bourbons that hasn't changed in the past 5 years
I must be a light-weight because I love Woodford. Love your channel, father and son are very charming and professional...
Chris Morris is my favorite master distiller - perfect mix of know-how expertise and likeability personality.
My girlfriend and I took the tour this year. Wonderful experience. Great distillery and a great staff.
Video was very informative - enjoyed viewing
Wow! I just bought a bottle and had to find out a little more about the process ...Its the best I've had so far for a poor man
Benedikt is a great taster

Woodford Reserve Double-Oaked is still my favorite readily-available bourbon.
I usually stick to beer these days but asked for this on an airplane the other day, very good and very smooth.
What airline are you flying???
Good presentation Ben.
Nice video, I've been watching many of Ben's visits, and this is a good one.
Great video! They get lit at the end and it’s quite funny XD
Just now drinking Double Oak Single barrel. Really quite awesome, I highly recommend!
I will be trying some double oak.
durham1123 the double oak is amazing

After trying many whiskies, this is my favorite. "Great" is an overused word...but the finish of Woodford Reserve is great.
I love the double Oaked
We all do.
Sipping a dram of this as I watch. Good to feel as though I'm right in its birthplace as I enjoy it 😄
Drinking Woodford Reserve Double Oaked as I watch this. Nice little video, but that spring at the beginning did not look like the sweet, clear limestone water I had imagined lol.
+Matthew Blom Yea it looked a little green I would say lol.
A great Bourbon. The pot still process makes all the difference. My favourite.

But he did ask him directly and said "so we are not looking at ANY column still whisky here and chris said Yes that is correct...
Woodford makes great whiskey
imagine taking a dip bath in that fermentation vessel and feeling the bubbles ,must be good for you too with all those grains soaking your skin
Definitely a favorite 👍 been getting it for a while decades now. Orginal is my favorite of them
Woodford rye is awesome
This is so cool
Darn it... I will buy a barrel of that double oaked! Awesome bourbon!
And they are making beer kits for homebrewing too!
22:45 Teaching him a little about quality control. this is hilarious. thumbs up

The taste of my side was amazing to Bravo :)
Growing in popularity in Australia=Great Drop 🥃
Doesn't the alcohol evaporate when the mash ferments in an open barrel?
No, during the fermenting the "beer" only gets up to about 8% alcohol. At that point the alcohol percentage is not enough to start evaporating, that only happens after the distillation happens.

Yes but later on Luning asks him again "So we are not looking at ANY column still whisky here" and Chris says "thats correct"
The best job in the world!
Cool Video, Thank you.

Do you get the double-oaked offering in England?
Undoubtedly one of the best bourbons!
Can't escape the slightest tinge of coconut flavour which lingers around. Don't know from where it comes from........
43% ? mine is 45.2% in canada
Man the narrator sounds like Tommy Wiseau
isn't standard Woodford 90.4 proof?
86.4 proof here. 43.2% ABV.
Yeah here in the US it’s 90.4. 45.2% ABV.
Its 40% in Australia i have to wait for people to travel overseas and get me duty free bottles at 45.2%. It find it wierd that the woodfords guy doesnt even know the abv of his product

It's too bad he didn't have a bottle of Double Double Oaked to present.
The bottle was there.. just in front of Ben. The one with the brown label
I sip some at the Kentucky derby how bout juuu fellas😙😙😙😙😘😘😘😘😘🐽😘💝💝
"Heated" warehouses... smh
I see that Walter White gave up meth and decided to move to Kentucky and make whiskey instead.
Hey, what was the name of the presenter, i forgot after i read it about 100 hundred times every few seconds...
Ben Luening

There is an absolute SHITLOAD of distilleries using pot stills. And Small Batch doesn't use 28KL fermenters either.
