today, after a long time, a central B key started to lose dynamics...I realized that I hadn't opened my NS3 for a long time and I wasn't sure what the right steps were...then I remembered this video and I have to say which was very useful to my memory 😂😂 ...when you do something, post it: it can also be useful to yourselves how useful it was to me! (and I realized that I really have a shitty memory!)
My ns3 stopped booting 3hrs before the gig. Fuse seemed ok so we opened and checked the inside for loose connections. Also the power unit seemed ok. Then we bridged the fuse with aluminium foil and that helped. Now got a fuse from a studio on Sunday ! Thxs guys!.i think the place has a powersurge problem. However the keys sort of rattle a bit so tomorrow back to the screwdriver.
That's weird .. That exact Eb also let me down today during a gig. Thanks for the video, although I am not sure if I dare do that as I might still have warranty.
Wow 😅 This looks like a long winded nightmare. I received my NS4 today with a dent in the chasi that is stopping some keys from working and thought to open it up to bend the chasi back whilst I wait for a replacement. Definitely not doing that now hahaha
I’ve had to do this on my Nord Stage 2 EX. I used isopropyl alcohol and a Q-Tip to clean the failing pad. I’ve just watched another repair video that warned “never use any fluids to clean the pads” as you can remove the carbon, ruining the contact. I didn’t see any carbon being removed and it worked for me? Any insight on this?
In addition to the North of the video, I have had many other keyboards in many years of this work and, especially in the period when I smoked and you could smoke in pubs, the contacts often got dirty. I have never used any liquid to clean them, only the fingertip of my hand (washed and without traces of tomato and pizza :-) ) at most I moistened with a little saliva, which has a correct PH for carbon. I have never had problems even with different brands like Roland, Korg, Alesis and Kurzweil ... ... but this does not mean that it is the perfect method, but I have used it for 35 years and with me it has never failed !
Ciao Gianni, good work! Do You know - is it possible on Nord Stage 3 to do a ''custom change of the key range''? - so instead from E to E, to be from C to C. I asked Nord, but they didn't reply me yet. Thank You on (any) answer & big greeting from Serbia!..
I’m working on some custom setup for myself, and saw this (while confirming that cheek blocks have screws holding inside as well as outside.) 2 questions. 1.) I can’t quite tell, but is there anything holding the blocks and red top(knobs) on other than back screws and cheeks? I unscrewed cheek blocks and all the screws along the top edge and it’s loose but doesn’t want to come off easy. I don’t want to damage it. I did NOT unscrew the bottom or the Key bed (yet). 2.) what is that thing on the right cheek block? Some sort of bracket or metal clip. Gave me an idea of how to do what I need! Curious what it is.
@@david_haas_ Thank you for checking back in and answering that! I figured it would be something like that but I haven't gotten back into the board yet. So that will be helpful info!
Thanks Gianni! I’m about to buy a new contact strip for the middle C area. Do you by chance remember how many keys are on that strip? Or do you know where I might find out?
damn, I really don't know what to answer to that, because I'd have to take my NS3 apart again to find out… but I guess there are 4 or 5 strips in all across the 73-key keyboard. Maybe a request for information directly to the NORT to be sure
hello, my problem with this same keyboard is the number 5 button where the presets are saved, sometimes it lights up when I press it and sometimes it doesn't, what could I do in that case? Would simply cleaning the contact help?
hello, surely the first thing to do is clean the contact like the others, hoping it's just a little dust like it was in my case… …if it keeps giving problems, then you'll have to go to Nord assistance 😩 …but the problem is normally is solved with cleaning 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
My Nord "Grand" has a problem with the D-Key above Middle C intermittently but dramatically jumping up in volume. Could this be a Contact Cleaning Issue too and I wonder if it opens up the same way that yours does? Joe
I would not recommend cleaning the contacts in this way. Use a clean pencil eraser and lightly address the problem spot. You do not want to rub the graphite off of the contacts or have liquid on them if possible. Just my two cents.
Grazie mille
Grazie ancora@@GianniFoti
It is a terrbible design, I have 30 year old cheap domestic keyboards that have never had failed keys, yet my Nord Stage 2 that I bought brand new, I have had to dismantle it maybe 5 or 6 times like in this video as it 'breathes in' dust with those stupid rubber domes. I wonder if it is possible to fit some kind of air filter. Why have they not fixed this on later keyboards?
@@willdatsun it's true that it breathes dust, but I can tell you it resists anything else... my old ns2ex even survived a huge mug of beer that fell inside during a live show! ...maybe because it breathes, but all I had to do was turn off and turn the Nord upside down, let the beer out and continue the show without any problems... of course then it smelled of beer for 2 months, 😂

You have probably figured it out by now, but for question 1 you have to undo the black screw in the centre of the bottom.

Yes, that would be caused by a dirty or otherwise faulty contact pad.
